Things were not going well.
With a guttural snarl, Kizuka'ruya scattered the pebbles before her with a swipe of her outstretched paw before rising to pace irritably. The spirits were being remarkably close-mouthed around her today, which made her job all the more difficult. She wanted to know what was going on. She needed to know what was going on. That thirst for knowledge, the itch to have her claw on the pulse of life in the pride...it was what she lived for.
And when the spirits denied her, she got pissy.

Jinichongo had finally taken it upon herself to see to her wound, which had caused her to become all the more grouchy for having actually done what Sakata had suggested she do.
One shoulder moved itself up, adjusting her headdress as it covered her blind eye. She hadn't appreciated his tone of voice with her, despite knowing, deep inside, his only intentions were to be concerned for his Queen.
Nevertheless she was still the Queen, after all, so what SHE said was supreme, not what he insisted. Hmph. She would surely have to remind him of such, once this whole intruder thing was settled!

The soft rustle of footsteps caught Kizuka's attention, and the inky-pelted lioness raised her head, a half-snarl starting to form. How dare she be interrupted? She might be just a Scryer, but she was a niece of the Queen herself! Others ought to respect that, if nothing el--oh.
OH.
Smoothing her face so quickly that the snarl might have been simply a figment of her imagination, Kizuka dipped her head low in a nod of respect. "My queen?"

Had Jini not been in such a foul mood and distracted by the words of her incorrigible mate, she might have caught the facial change in her niece.
Maybe.
All the same, however, she found herself caught off guard with the appearance of the other lioness, having thought this area deserted for the time being.
"Kizuka!" she snapped, turning her exclamation of surprise into an order (of sorts), "Kizuka, I must speak with a knowledgable Scryer, and you will certainly do."
Ignoring the throbbing pain in her side, Jini sat herself down, and stared down at her niece. Kizuka's mother, Jinichongo's sister, had been a very intelligent and accurate Scryer, so Jinichongo expected no less of her bloodline to do the same.

Kizuka's eyes came up to meet her Queen's more firey ones in surprise before remembering herself and jerking them back down. Rather, remembering how well Jini took to a perceived challenge. Best not to cross that particular line, indeed. This could very well be the opportunity of a lifetime, and there was no way she was going to let herself screw it up.
"What is it you wish to speak of?" she said at last, each word careful and measured. An erroneous assumption could be lethal.

"There is an intruder amongst our pride," Jinichongo began, allowing no time for her words to dramatically take effect nor reveal the seriousness of the issue at hand, "Possibly more. While the spirits have spoken of ill times to come, none of this was foreseen."
She shook her head, taking a deep breath. No lioness liked being wrong. Jinichongo refused the idea that she could be wrong. No, if the spirits had spoken wrong to her, it was their doing, for whatever despicable reason beyond her comprehension. Why hadn't they seen this coming?
"Tell me, Kizuka," she stated plainly, "What have the spirits told you, as of late? Have you heard of any of this...occurring?"

Fffffff-
Today, of all days. Her tail curling around her feet as she sat, she nodded slightly. "The spirits have been troubled and confused...it is difficult to get a clear message from them. It is almost as though they do not want to speak, my Queen. An intruder...could explain a lot, I think. It must have disturbed the spirits greatly." It was almost a relief, really. The spirits had been infuriatingly silent lately, and a logical reason had just been neatly laid in her lap. Now, she just needed to turn it to her advantage. "To disturb the spirits like this, it must be a powerful intruder."

"A powerful one indeed." Jinichongo echoed, her face frowning. No, this was not good news at all. While she was relieved inwardly that she was not the only one who witnessed the silence of the spirits, it remained a mystery as to why, out of all the generations the spirits had spoken to the pride, that they had ceased their communication.
Why now, when they had supported the Mizimu'Tungika for decades, for her parents, and their parents before that. No Queen nor Scryer has had to deal with such.... such difficulty, before now.
"I would keep on my guard, if I were you, Kizuka." She said quietly, looking off into the distance. "It is a serious sign if the spirits themselves wish to remain quiet."

Her eyes flicking to the Queen's face, Kizuka's muzzle twisted in a frown as well. A worried Queen could be a dangerous one...even as it opened new opportunities to rise in the ranks. Others were less likely to notice a little manipulation when their mind was elsewhere--but if they noticed, their wrath would be fueled by their unease.
"I will, my Queen," she said at last, nodding in acquiesence. "If they fall silent, we should listen all the more."

"See that you do, for I have no need for a deaf Scryer." Came the solemn response. Jinichongo was irritated, and it was clearly evident. However, with no information to assist her need, her niece was of no more use to her for the current moment in time.
Nodding her head, she turned her back towards the other lioness and began her return to her offspring, who were no doubt still snuggled fast asleep atop of each other. Jinichongo might not have communication with the spirits at this time, but she was more than certain that she'd see to the safety of her young ones, of herself, and of her pride. Even if it cost her her life.
