Being the head of a tribe was a lot of work, welcoming new members, passing down stories, finding justice, making every thing equal. Bleh. It was boring work.
Leaders had to take their breaks, too!
The deer-like wolf left the new comers, Sanjah, a large cat coloured wolf from the north, and Deeren, who looked an awful lot like Mateus but lighter, in charge of the tribe ans he slinked off for some R'n'R.
He hoped Sanjah didn't anger anyone, or ate anyone; Even though he's.. hopefully, joking about that. He also hoped Deeren could keep up with the demands. If anything they'd help each other out, both have been around the old bat long enough to see how slack he really worked.
The chief padded silently through the forest and yawned. Now that he broke away from hustle and bustle he didn't know what to do.
"Sleep, probably," he whispered to himself. Tiredly, he walked to the edge of the water, took a sip from the flowing river, and crawled over to a shaded tree.
It smelled like Sanjah.
Yay or Nay?
Whatever.
He was tired, and the shade felt nice on his warm fur.
At least Sanjah smelled better than dirt and other... things.

{Kay, lets try this again.}

Warrick bowed his head as he bolted through the fields. Velvet had said she'd seen Mateus in the commons the other day and he'd looked troubled; something foreign to the gentle leader. She'd felt compelled to use her talents and read the leaves that the next wind brought. They smelled dead, but not because of the season and wear, no, something in his heart was "unsettled", as she'd put it. Whatever that meant.

He'd never put much faith in her readings before now, only half-listened like the surrogate brother he'd chosen to become. This time was different though, Mateus was invovled. Warrick tried to keep his feelings for the other under wraps, because so little made sense to him at the moment. But as soon as he'd caught wind of the other's departure, he followed, not entirely knowing where he was headed or what he'd do upon arrival. He just followed the faint scent of a flower, so delicate, and felt his heart grow heavy as his head went light.

Mateus had a long day, and argument with his leader-mates, as he called them. Deeren sided with Sanjah for the first time. The argument was about Mateus's inability to 'see', that he was ignorant to the world outside and his tribe inside.
Although he laid on a soft spot that smelled like the larger wolf, he welcomed the scent. It calmed him down, even if they had just sparked commotion in the village. Even the human-chief was worried.

They had never argued seriously before.

The leader gave a heavy sigh, and rolled over in the moss. He whined, felt bad, and wanted to say 'sorry', but 'sorry' was not good enough to restore what he had been ignoring.
What had he been ignoring, though? Was he ignoring it so much he didn't even know what he was ignoring? To the leader, he saw nothing wrong with anything, not even shady people. (for Sanjah, for example. People are still afraid of him, fearing he may be a spy or assassin who fell in love with his victim or some other dramatic cliche) Which was what Sanjah was arguing about. Deeren even seemed to know what Mateus had not been listening too. But Deeren had connections to the outside world, he got a head start.

Mateus groaned, and sat up. "What am I doing? What am I not noticing?" he whined to himself, looking around, hoping for someone to answer. "Mr.Bee," he called to a nearby yellow and black buzzer, "Can you tell me?" he asked it, knowing, unlike his heir, he wouldn't understand. It hovered int he air a while and buzzed off elsewhere.

He sighed and laid on the moss again. He decided to sleep it off and confront them later tonight.
Though, he had a feeling something was coming towards him. He was hoping it was Sanjah, and called out, "Sanjah! I'm sorry. You're right. Tell me what I've missed and I'll pay the dues!"

Warrick's hustle slowed to a trot as soft words fell upon his ears. "Sanjah"? He was so sick of that wolf. Yes, the antlered canine had allowed jealousy to creep into his heart, but damn it, he'd fallen in love with Mateus before Sanjah had made an appearance. Should he be punished for not coming to realize it and vocalize these feelings? He may not have be a leader or a "sex kitten" as he's heard a passer-byer call Sanjah, but he was worthy of Mateus's love. He listened, he worried, he felt. His pride was swelling up in his chest, making it hard to breath, and soon tears began streaming down his snout. What kind of puppy had he been reduced to?

His sisters would certainly question him when he returned home; be it with Mateus or by his lonesome. He would not return home empty handed and confronting his love was becoming a daunting task. The two had had such brief encounters, no real relationships had formed; Warrick refused to make a fool of himself. He eyed the neighboring hills, leading away from the village. He wondered, could he live with himself if he ran? Ran to escape the pain that loomed over his head night and day; pain that Mateus had innocently caused.

Yes, he could, unrequited love could hurt no more than a broken heart, that much he was sure of. But then he glanced over his shoulder, towards his resting love. Suddenly his heart gave out, causing him to come to his knees. He laid there after the pain died down, rubbing his still wet face into the ground.

Mateus waved a paw in the air when no reply came. "Sanjah?" he asked, maybe he didn't hear him, that the moss muffled his voice? "Sanny?" he called again, lifting his head miles a minute with ears perking. His tail wagged, but the bell didn't ring; a sad sign that something is wrong.
After a few more moments of silence, he thought for sure someone was there, Sanjah or not. He reluctantly got up from his resting place and took two steps forewards. It could be a bear, or a jaguar, or a hunter. However, he crept on, knowing his own subtle powers could protect him. "Helloooo?" he called into the bushes, and saw a brown something on the ground. It looked like a deer, and it looked hurt.
"Hey there, boy..girl? Uhm. Are you hurt?" he asked to it's back, and then padded around to the front. It had on a red collar lavish with golden, sparkling bells - though not the same spirit bells they held on their tails; in which at this moments, Mateus's didn't ring. The bells on the collar, jingled softy at every movement.
Mateus gave him a hard look. "Wait.. you're from my tribe, aren't you?" he concluded, remembering passing the wolf many times at home. No more than a "hi", what was his name?
Mateus nudged his face. "Hey now! You`re not allowed to be sad in my tribe!`he told him, lifting his head to the sky. «I should be telling that to my self...» he said calmly, then looking back down at the boy «Hmmm...» he started, trying to remember his name to make him look liss ignorant and foolish of his underlings. He had everyones name in a list back home...

«You`re name.... is it not `Warrick`?»

((Sorry I`m suddenly using « and », it`s the French marks, because my keyboard felt like changing halfway through and I`m too lazy to fix it all the time!)

Warrick rolled onto his back and hiccuped as he saw Mateus so close to him. He drug his paws down his cheeks in an attempt to wipe his face clean before he began. "Yeah, it's Warrick. Guess I was expecting too much in coming here." He let a low, snide laugh escape him while relaxing his hind legs.

He doesn't even remember your name. How could he possibly understand a stranger seeking him out and confessing his bleeding heart.

He could no longer meet with Mateus eyes, "So what brings you all the way out here? We're more than a short run from the tribe. I find myself perplexed with my own decision in following you here."

Bright blue eyes flickered with the realization that he had just outed himself. His bottom lip quivered and tears threatened to fall yet again.

No, I'm not gonna cry, not gonna cry! His litany was of no help, he'd already failed harder than ever before.
