Although Gaia provides us with a Writer's Forum, Picture Post and an Art Discussion forums, they are infested with pre-teens otakus completly devoided of taste and of critical jugement - just like for the rest of this bloody website. Since there are many artists in this guild, I thought it would be nice to have our own mini Picture Post - Art Discussion - Writer's Forum thread.
Feel free to post your finished pieces or your works in progress to get a few critiques, to pimp your gallery(ies) or those of other artists, to post a link to your Picture Post/Art Discussion/Writers thread or to your Lineart Jam post. Do whatever suits your fancy as long as it has to do with art, writting, design and all that what-not.

I shall start things off with two things.
First, I did a picture for Christmas and decided to experiment with digital painting. I did this one in Photshop 6 with a different layer for each element (skin, hair, accessories, shirt and background). I painted over a scanned sketch using mostly the airbrush and paintbrush tools with smudging here and there. I'm looking for a few pointers on how to improve not only my painting techniques but use of colours, anatomy and composition.

Second, I need to chose one of my website's layout screencap to use in my university portfolio. I'm trying to get into graphic designs and the presence of logos and webdesign will be a plus. Simply go to mywebsite, in the "About" section and you shall find the layout archive. I was seriously considering my third layout Colourblind Smile (second thumbnail from the left) or my current layout. Those are my top choices but I'm open for comments on either one of my layouts.

I really like the shading on the sweater; it gives it a soft texture. The use of the Christmasy complimentary colors in the front and the less bold orangish yellow and redish purple compliments in the background works well. I'd suggest trying stronger shading on the skin. The high contrasts in the hair and the mug next to the more soft light on the skin makes it look flat.
As for the site layouts, I like the one you have now. The logos are a little busy, though. The one on the red background isn't too bad but the one on the white background is difficult to read.

Thanks a lot, I'll do darker shadows for the skin from now on. I've been fishing for a decent critique of that pic for weeks now.

Well, the art has been pimped. Now for discussion!
Yuji and Mister Experiments are very cool, and anyone who says otherwise will hear the FAT LADY SING. Not much can be said here. BlackRaven and MagnumT...well, while their art is not as impressive as the previous two, the ideas are decent enough. That's what I care most about: ideas. Your art can be s**t, but if the ideas floating around in yo' MIND are good enough what's the problem? Too bad BRW hasn't updated his site since the dark ages so we can see his recent stuff. I hope it's gotten cooler.

BlackRavenWyrd most recent work would get me kicked OFF of DA =/ Oh Mee Gee, what does it contain then? Makes me curious, if only for all the wrong reasons xd I hardly have anything new (decent) to put on meh Devart these days anyway, since most of the time I either end up: a)taking photos of toys and pets with the world's worst digital camera b)playing games c)sobbing in a corner because of my ineptitude, metaphorically speaking d)reading webcomics and thinking of how cool it would be to do one as well e)all of the above

You all rock and I've left either comments on DA or in your guestbook, wether it is recently or a while go, telling you why and how you rock.
Grace's tutorials are always useful. I'll be using the one on coloured lines fo shizzle.
Here's my complete pimping :

BlackRavenWyrd magnumT Oh Mee Gee, what does it contain then? Makes me curious, if only for all the wrong reasons xd Oh the usual nakked Demon Girly with two tails doing... things! Yay lesbians! Sheezyart used to allow adult art on their galleries, but not anymore. Possibly due to the horrible furry/yaoi stuff. (For those who don't know, Sheezy is a DeviantArt type thing created by a couple of ex-DA staff. It looks like shite, but some people like it).
