As you may know, my SuWriMos projects over the last two years have been a fantasy trilogy called Exos: The Good, The Bad and The Artificial. Yesterday I finished the second novel, after working on it for the last year on-and-off (sorry about the redundant thread, I'll sort that out soon) and now I'm finally ready to write the final novel: Roboto.

This will most likely be the most challenging all of three novels because of it's huge timeline, which is incredibly detailed, and the fact that the characters in this need a lot more work for it to be realistic. I don't mind, though; I'm sure it'll be fun.

I'll probably be posting chapters as and when I write them (so it's inclined to incredibly ad hoc in terms of timing, and you may notice more than a few basic errors), but still I'd appreciate if anybody would read it and tell me what they think. Hopefully people shouldn't need too much knowledge of the other novels, at least to start with, so any kind of feedback would be helpful. :3

Synopsis: Minerva Gwen has been a lot of people in her life: doting wife; mother; kind and caring friend; helpful ally - but as time goes on she is finding it harder and harder to conceal who she really is. A robot created with Magic by the ruler of Exos to resemble his lost love, Minerva has always been there for him - underappreciated and certainly not loved - but there all the same. However, seeing the state of Exos as it slips into chaos, she finds herself unable to sit back and watch from the sidelines as innocent people are ostracised and slaughtered, all for the sake of Magic and a good name. Something has to be done, and Minerva knows that she is the only one who can do it.

Since I'm going to have rather a good large selection of characters, many of whom will be appearing and reappearing all over the place, I figure I'll keep a list of characters here, along with their relevance to the story (even if they're only mentioned once it's worth keeping a note). This is more for my benefit than yours, but feel free to make comment - especially if you see that I've missed somebody off (if you're reading this at all).

(Generally) in order of appearance, with the exception of MC's:
(Main/important characters underlined.)

Minerva Gwen - Protagonist
David/The Thau/His Eminence - Antagonist
Vienna - The Thau's daughter
Calina Roe - Main character (Protagonist of That's The Beauty of It)
Medina Thurr - Main character (Protagonist of Like Ink)
Azaliah Thurr - Medina's sister
Iguan - Talking Big Cat

It's a fantasy, so there's bound to be a few fantastical elements to the novel. This is, again, more for my benefit than for that of my readers (since I have the most appauling memory), but I guess if you enjoy world-building you might like this. X3

[+] Thau - The new ruler of Exos is refered to by many as the Thau. This is a shortened form of Thaumaturge, which means 'One who practices magic or sorcery'. He is said to be very powerful.

[+] Nurse - Robotic TickTock creations, made specifically for the purpose of chaperoning young, richer girls without chaperones at the university. They act as a human Nanny would, taking the girls to their lessons and following them when they are outside their lessons at pretty much all times. The girls are not allowed off the campus without them, nor are they allowed out at night. The Nurses are made of brass, have purple eyes and tinny-female human voices. They are also programmed to listen for any talk which could be detrimental to the university's reputation- therefore they are effectively spies for the Thau.

[+] Aeveism (Aay ' vism) - The majority religion of the masses until the Thau came to power. It is heavily revolving around the Goddess Aeve who was said to be a Fairy Queen travelling from world to world and blessing all with the gift of life. There is little to support this pagan worship but many Exosians still cling to it in the hope that during their darkest hours their Lady Aeve will return to save them.

[+] Lyelett (Lie ' let) - A bird of flight with the ability to speak. Commonly referred to as Pfenick(s) they are purple in colour with tail feathers that fan like that of an Earth Peacock; male Lyeletts have gold edgings to their tails and golden plumes that sporut from their foreheads when they are alert; female Lyeletts have silver edgings and wings- this is how they may be distinguished from one another. They are the rarest form of talking animal in Exos, hunted for the magnificence of their feathers, and protected by only the more religious clusters. The Lyelett was the mascot of the rulers of Eastern Exos before the Thau. In some areas they are now close to extinction.

--

Also, it may be the case that some frequently used words may not be completely understood by all (i.e. slang, or words not commonly used in speech). If you would like me to clarify the meaning of a term/word, just let me know - you might not be the only one struggling with it.

Here is a smaller inventory of English words which a number of people have questioned me over:

[+] Coup d'etat (`koo dey ' taa) - A sudden and decisive change of government illegally or by force. (This word is bandied around quite a lot in the three novels, so I thought I'd stick it up here just to clear up any possible misunderstandings.)

Exos is a land surrounded on three sides by desert, and on one side by a large ocean. None that have ventured outside of Exos borders have been recovered, whether because they have perished or because they have found better on the Other Side people can only speculate.

(Sorry about the picture quality, it's the best my camera could do)

History & facts about Exos:
Before The Thau came to power, Central City was two separate entities and government of Exos was split directly down the middle of the world. The city of Itur ruled the East, and the city of Ziranel controlled the West. When he came to power, Itur and Ziranel were merged together to create the monstrosity known commonly as Central City. At the heart of the C.C. there lies the palace, a district lived in by some of the wealthiest and upper class merchants of Exos. Access during the Thau's reign is growing more and more exclusive.

The Palace sits somewhat in the centre of the palace; the largest building in the entirity of Exos, it is home to a number of Thaumaturge employees, close friends, and politicians (in an attempt to preserve this faux show of government embodied by the Thaumaturgy). As the timeline of the novel progresses, access to the Palace is equally hard to get, especially as the royalist supporters of Itur and Ziranel threaten to unit against the Thau's racist dictatorship.

I shall post most of the chapters online, here, and then link the separate posts through this one. If you choose to review an earlier chapter when a later one is online it might be useful for you to tell me which you're talking about, (again this is on the assumption that people will read what I write). If at any point I do decide to stop posting my chapters here I will let you know, though there will be the possibility of a more private blog-post system, or if you really want to read the novel then I have to say: Emails are wonderful things.

Please, please remember that this is an incredibly rough draft, and that a good few stupid errors are to be expected. They probably won't even hit me until people point them out, or I edit, because my brain is set into fifth gear writing mode. :]

If you do read and comment, I'll thank you now in advance. It's appreciated. <3

Me too. XD I'm practically a master at it.

I still have one problem, though. I can't decide how to write the novel. Originally it was going to be in first person present tense, to show her difference from my other MCs, but now I'm not so sure. It might mess up the trilogy if they're written in different ways, plus I'm not too good at present tense and I could end up switching right back to past, which would be incredibly annoying.

Blergh. I could do first person past, but that's boring.

So, that leaves me with the dilemma: first person present, or third person past (like the other two) that I've never been incredibly comfortable with, and which may not bring Minerva's character across well enough? =S

I'm not so good with present tense either, I think mostly because I've grown up reading everything in past tense and writing that way as well (though, I've noticed there are an increasing number of present tense first persons).

I would say look back at the last two novels and ask yourself if you felt you conveyed those main characters well enough to continue with third person past. If not, maybe the last book of the series can have a change. I like things to be constant in a series of books, but if the character calls for a change to be properly conveyed, then go for it.

It's up to you. Only you can decide[/lame] pirate .

.:The Artificial:.

And there is the dilemma. XP

Because, whilst I think the other two characters were portrayed well enough in third person, I might have trouble explaining some of Minerva's thoughts through third. Since she's a robot, for example, all her thoughts are recorded on a disk, which is viewed regularly for any seditious thoughts. Minerva finds a way to back up her thoughts to another disk, and is able them to keep them a secret from the Thau - the problem with describing this is that without seeing her motivation from a first person POV, it might come across as confusing. Plus, with her being a robot, thinking through data and Magic, it makes sense to have her think differently to the humans. Their novels (or, Calina's will be when I get around to it) are "Image disks" of third person, punctuated with "Data Disk" diary entries - diaries given to them by Minerva so she can keep track of their thoughts. XD

rofl Oh dear, I've got myself into quite a mess. I don't know any more.

And, like you, I like continuity within a series, and so I'd peronsonally either have them all different, or all the same. Perhaps I'll start with third person, and see how it works out. I might be able to change it later, if I have to.
