Frequently Asked Questions
This isn't your normal FAQ! These are questions you've probably got but will NOT find answers to on the Kawaii Kon website!
Q: I want to cosplay, but I'm really not any good at making costumes. What could I do? A: Well, you've got several options. First, you could buy a costume already made. This option is a bit expensive, but it saves you a lot of time. One of the best places to buy a costume locally is Toys N Joys. They have two locations, one in Kaimuki and one in Pearl City, but I HIGHLY recommend the store in Kaimuki, because they're much better stocked if you're looking for a costume!
You could also order online. There are a lot of online stores that stock cosplay costumes!
Another option is to do it yourself! You don't need to make a costume from scratch, but you could go to thrift stores and clothing stores to find clothes that are similar to what your character wears. Sometimes you might need slight alterations, but you could probably ask your mom, grandma, dad... anyone who can sew well to help you!
Q: Where's the best place around to eat? A: The Hawaii Convention Center has a small concession stand, but the food CAN be pricey. Luckily, just walk across the street and you'll find a 7-11 and Subway over there! (Careful while crossing though, on the way coming back, there's no button to press to trigger the crossing sign!)
I also recommend bringing your own snacks if you can. A water bottle you can refill and some cookies or crackers are always good! Maybe even a bit of pocky! XD
Q: What are the differences between the Dealer's Room and Artist's Alley? A: The obvious difference is that the Dealer's Room hosts vendors who are on a professional level, such as official artists and companies. Almost anyone can sign up for Artist's Alley though. You don't need to be an official company.
Some of the differences in atmosphere are as follows: The Dealer's room is MUCH more open, much larger, and with fewer sellers, but they tend to carry more. Artist's Alley is small, booth space is small, tables are often crowded, and aisles are often crowded. In the Alley you need to move a LOT faster, because 1) things tend to sell out faster, and 2) because it's crowded you need to keep moving.
As for what each area sells, these are the more common items you'll find in each room.
Dealer's Room: Clothing (cosplay, lolita, t-shirts, accessories, etc), posters and wall scrolls, toys and plushies, collectibles, cards and games, occasionally manga books and bags. Artist's Alley: Fan art/prints, custom art/commission art, hand-made plushies, buttons, stickers, and pins, crafts, accessories, t-shirts and some cosplay, doujinshi, etc.
Q:What are some of the major events that go on? A: Normally there are two concerts, one on Saturday night and one on Friday night. After Saturday's concert, there's sometimes a "Butishake" which is sort of like an anime rave. Opening and closing ceremonies are also a big deal. There's also the unofficial march of the zombies on Sunday. The Cosplay Showcase, Cosplay competition, Lolita fashion show, and karaoke competitions all draw a huge crowd. Finally, if Vic Mignogna is doing a concert or performance, I've seen people lined up an hour early to get in... and it IS worth it.
Other questions may be added at a later time ^^

Hellooo?~ *poke* It's alright to post...right? I mean, looking at it, you did the reserved posts neutral
I've two videos, except it was of the Singles Tourney for Brawl. I'm gonna do a cosplay for it next year, but it's a secret! Well, assuming I go. My mom gets pretty salty about conventions like these. D:

@ Ichiri: >w> ...PERHAPS!
Also, I'm REALLY pissed off right now, because I found out my prom is scheduled the saturday of Kawaii Kon! D:< DUMB STUPID PROM COMMITTEE!!! They scheduled the venue late too so we're going to this really, cheap, sucky ballroom since we couldn't get a hotel. D:<
And my mom is MAKING me go to the prom too! D: She's like "You know, you only get one chance to go to your prom, but you can go to Kawaii Kon next year!" DX
THIS SUCKS. If I don't get a hug from Vic Mignogna and the chance to buy food shaped plushies with faces at least once a year, I WILL IMPLODE D:<
