___-----The Journal of the Two-----___
Amber and Jady are two special long-haired females. They are, in a way, inverted colors of each other. Amber is golden with dark brownish-black ears, and paws. Jady is black with gold-amber markings. The two are best friends, and consider each other little less than sisters. Although Amber arrived a month sooner than Jady, Jady is older than the young pup.

___-----The Coming of The Dogs-----___
___-----Moon's Story-----___
"And I now present you with... The Class of 2004! Congratulations, seniors - You made it!" Whistles. Black grad hats being thrown into the air. Screams of joy. Polite clapping. It would all stay in Moon's head for the rest of her life. How could it not? It was her sister's graduation. She would remember that day forever.
And now, she was gone. Sunny had flown to Austrailia after the summer. Gone to college. Nothing was left. Her room was empty, her closets were empty, her study was empty. The whole house was emptier without Sunny there. Moon fingered the sturdy oakwood desk, the glass, it was all Sunny's, and not hers. She wasn't going to move anything in Sunny's room. No one was - she'd make sure of that. But the study. Oh, that was different. The laptop was gone, the convertible plastic desk was gone, the chairs and lamps were gone. It was a blank room. It wasn't Sunny's room.
Her mother and father would let her have a few pets now, she was sure. It had been Sunny's allergies that had kept Moon from buying a pet before anyways. And now, Sunny was gone. She could do what she wanted. And she wanted a dog. No, two dogs. She'd see to it that she would get them. Of course she would. And she would make up a beautiful pet room in the study for them. Nothing was stopping her now.
"No, dear, you can't buy two dogs from Jack Phillman's. Honey, you don't have the money, do you? If we paid for the dogs, they'd be our dogs, and that's not what you want. It's not what we want." Her mother said, smiling stiffly. "But you can go to the pound. I'm sure they'll have something for you - maybe a little chihuahua, or a Miniature Pinscher. I heard of one on the other side of town. You can hitch a ride with cousin Connly later on, ok?" And that had been that. No purebred golden retrievers, no strong huskies, no impish Poms. No nothing, just mutts. But they were dogs all the same. She'd get the ride from Connly, sure she would. She'd load up on all the good stuff.
The ride to the pound was excrutiatingly slow. Connly was her favorite cousin - handsome and kind, and they were best friends. He had just finished University, and had moved back to town to find a job. It was good to see him everyday again. She hadn't liked when he was gone, not at all. Just like she didn't like it now that Sunny wasn't here.
G.H.S. - Gaian Humane Society. Moon rolled the name over her tongue. It sounded a little long, but promising. She waved to Connly, and ducked into the air-con. She saw the offices of the different people who worked there, and stepped up to the counter. "I'm here about the dogs?" She asked. "I want to adopt one."
The receptionist's counter had a sign that said 'Maddy Lynn', and Moon assumed that was the receptionist's name, but she didn't feel up to clarifying. They stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity, before the receptionist stood up and led her to a door. "In there?" She asked. A nod. Moon shrugged and pushed the door open. The sound of barking erupted the moment she stepped in the doorway. "Wow!"
Moon walked the length of the aisle, up and down again. Then the golden puppy caught her eye. She was so cute that Moon almost squealed at her on the spot. Excited, she pointed to the golden puppy. "I'd like her, please!"
-------------------------------------------------------------
It was a month later, and Amber had blossomed from a hapless cute puppy to a feisty and frisky young dog, not quite in her adulthood yet. She would prance between everyone's legs, and make a fuss over nothing - oh how cute! He presence had led Moon to forget more about her life with Sunny. But it wasn't enough to lead her to forget that she had wanted two dogs. Two dogs, not one. So she hitched another ride with Connly.
She was a lot more familiar with the G.H.S. building now, having brought Amber back for checkups numerous times. Without hesitation, she waved to Maddy Lynn, and pushed the doors open. The barking hit her like a wave crashing against a tree. She grinned at the dogs, trailing her fingers against the doors of their runs as she passed. Each dog would come up and bark, leaping up to sniff at her - except for the last dog. She was black and gold - very strange indeed, and stayed sulkily at the back of her run. Her ears were pricked, however, and her tail wagging. It was just her eyes... that had seemed bored, and unreal...
She adopted Jady too.
___-----Amber's Story-----___
The box was cold. The wind spatter fat raindrops against the soggy sides of the carton, and the puppy inside shivered. Still, no one came. There was a light through the glass - the golden puppy could see it. She yelped and whined and howled, but no one came. She scratched at the sides of the cardboard, tearing holes through the soft, wet material, and peeked out. No one came.
The night was a horror, that was for sure, and when the morning came and finally, someone came out of the glass building, the puppy could see the destruction the storm had wrecked on the streets. Trees had been blown over, fallen onto their sides with their spindly roots waving in the cold wind. The woman picked her up. The puppy was wet through, her golden coat darkened and plastered to her skin from the night. It was horrible.
But the woman cleaned her up right nice, and stuck her into a warm room. There were other small puppies, yelping and whining. And eventually, a man in a long white coat came. He had a pen and a tag in his hand. He stopped outside the puppy's cage and stared at her for a while, then he wrote something down on the card, attached it to the wire mesh, and left, his footsteps ringing on the tiled floor.
------------------------------------------------------------
"Lolli." The girl read out loud. "Age - six weeks... Longhaired. She's cute!" The human bending to look at her exclaimed. "I'll adopt her, please!"
And then Maddy Lynn had taken her out of the pen and gave her to the girl. The girl was nice enough to her, but she never got to go inside. Wind or rain or shine or snow, she was tied up outside with a stiff, short leash. It scared her - she was only a puppy, not even two months old! It wasn't even a week before she was taken back to the glass building, where she found the warmth very comforting.
But Lolli fell sick. The days spent outside in the cold storms had got to her, and the next morning, the golden puppy was sick. She lay on her side, each breath a heavy rattle, barely moving at all. Doctor Jason Hawk came to take a look at her, and poked her with a long, thin stick and squirted water into her. She couldn't care less. She knew she was young, and she knew they had a feeling she wouldn't make it through.
But Lolli did. She pulled through well, and the sickness seemed to have spark up a fire to live inside of her. She was strong and healthy. Not two weeks after she came down with the terrible cold did another young girl come to visit. She was shy and tentative. but Lolli knew she had a good heart. She could feel it.
The girl knelt by her pen, and read the card. She saw Lolli, wagging her tail at her, and almost squealed. "I'll have her! Amber!"
___-----Jady's Story-----___
She would not have ended up at the G.H.S. if she had never tried to run away. But then again... she was never just a normal puppy. She had been the only one like... herself. She wasn't supposed to be black, with shimmering golden stripes. But it was fate. And her former owners were very fun, animal-loving young ladies, each with a childish streak that bubbled at the surface of their very being. They were room-mates, each with a wonderful, show quality golden retriever. They were perfectionists as well, to say the least. But what could they do with a special 'golden' like her? They knew she was worth a lot of money, of course they would have! She could sense if, even when she was but a young puppy. If they were to sell her, some rich dude with a kennel full of weird dogs would buy her for tons of gold, and when he did, he would stick her in a kennel and never bother with her again. Forget she ever existed. But she wasn't the kind of dog that liked independance. She needed the love and caring from a wonderful owner. But her former owners already had dogs. They didn't need more puppies to take care of. So they did what they had to - they kept her until she was at the brink of maturity, and then they sent her away.
They had bonded well, she and her two owners. Had she stayed, they may have kept her on forever. But she didn't, and they didn't.
It was a gloomy, gray morning, and she knew it was time to go for a hair trim at the vets. She didn't want her hair trimmed. She had a long, lustrous pelt, of which she was rightly proud. Why should it all fall down? So early that morning, she scratched the doggie door lock open, and slipped out. The wind was cold and picking up. It raked its long, spindly fingers through her warm fur and made her shiver in their chill. The wind blew her off balance, and it was hard to move. Eventually, she curled up inside a tube at a children's playground and fell asleep.
When she woke again, she was in a car, bumping along, and her heart stuttered. She had been found, and she was being taken to the vet's! But then she peeked out the small window, and she felt her fear increase. Where was she? She wasn't anywhere she knew! There was a man humming at the wheel. The music blared from the radio, and she growled. The man shot her a glance through the rearview mirror. "Hello, princess! Good ter see yer!" He grinned at her, and ugly, raw grin. She pulled back her lip and snarled. "Whoa there!" He tried to reach out a hand and pet her, but she snapped at the air haughtily. "Hey there..." The man's grin had disappeared, and he wrenched the wheel around angrily. "When I found yer, I was goinna git meself a gid homedog, but now I'm seein' that your no good an'way! I'm takin' yer back!" He flung the car into a fast speeding, and soon, she could see familiar landscape again, and she barked with joy.
The man screeched to a halt outside her owners' house, and dragged her from the car, pulling her up to the front door. He pressed the bell twice, impatiently. Then the door flung open. "Oh, geez! There you are!" One of her owners ushered her in and gave the man a dazzling grin. "Thank you so much! She's been gone for two days! We were worried sick!" She started to shut the door.
"'Ey, now! I jus' brocher dog back for yer! Ain't there no reward money or nothin'?" He demanded. Her owner looked quite pale. He advanced toward the door, forcing it open.
She snarled, ears pinned backwards and lunged forward. The man stopped and backed away, the color flooding from his face.
"What are we going to do with you?" Her owner sighed dejectedly. "We'll have to give you up, girl. I'm sorry."
-------------------------------------------------------
They went that afternoon. The two ladies made sure she would be safe, and if ever her time was up at the Society, they would be called straight away to fetch her home. The docter gave her a name - Leppi. They put it on her card. Her run was spacious, but Leppi pined for her owners desperately. Life seemed bleak and gray without their joy and happiness.
Then one day, not two weeks since Leppi's owners took her to the G.H.S., a girl came in, and stood at her cage. Leppi was still pining, and sulked away at the back of the run, barely shooting the human a glance. She didn't want to be adopted. She didn't want a new life. She wanted her owners.
"Leppi. One year, ten months old. Longhaired. Female." The human gave her a look of pure good and sympathy. "I wanter her!" She said to Maddy Lynn, the woman who brought adoptors around. She barely looked at the receptionist twice, her entire focus was on Leppi. "And... Maybe I'd better name her Jady."

___-----The Golden One-----___
Name: Amber Gender: Female Species: Dog Type: Longhaired Obtained: Writing Contest [Halloween, 2005] Personality: Cheery and somewhat goofy, Amber will go wagging up to anyone new she sees. She is friendly and happy, always eager to play and run. Her friskiness can be both good or bad. Moon is always afraid to let the young dog off her leash, as she has the tendancy to chase small children and bicycles and cars. Amber would not make a good guard dog - she often barks to let Moon know there are strangers, and will most likely escort the visitors around the house, getting in the way of everyone's legs. Her happy-go-lucky attitude makes her a delight to have as a pet, but her easy ways don't allow her to remember her lessons well, as they always slip out of her non-grudge-bearing mind immediately after a scolding. Her inquisitivity, however, does not make her a great dog to be off-leash. Her mind is so much like that of a Tibetan Mastiff's - she thinks that as long as she is on the same continent as Moon, she is 'with' her, and because of this, she does not come when called all the time. Heeling, to her, is nonexistant, and she never needs to be told twice to run away and not come back until she decides to. History: Amber's mother was a show quality golden retriever. Her lineage is purely Golden from the very start of the line. Her owner, being the perfectionist he is, treats his dogs like gold. He lets them off the leash at the beach for hours a day, sitting in the shade or dozing. When he found a suitable mate for Amber's mother, he didn't realize she had been twice-bred - once by another dog [most probably mongrel] on the beach, and another time by the purebred Golden. Because of this, when the female gave birth to eleven healthy puppies, eight of them were horribly mixed, and only three were purely golden. In a rage, he sold the three pure puppies away too early, and abandoned the eight mutts on the side of the street. Likes: Milk, Playing, Moon, Other animals, Fetch, Running, Being Off-leash Dislikes: The leash, being alone, boxes - RPs #. Title & Link. Location. Dates

___-----The Festive One-----___
Name: Jady Gender: Female Species: Dog Type: Longhaired Obtained: Advent Event [Xmas, 2005] Personality: Jady's dark color accents her darker personality. She isn't as cheery and outgoing as Amber. She is more shy, cautious, withdrawn. She can be cold to the plight of others, but never without reason, for she is a fair creature, and light in her decision. Her decisiveness and her stubbornness keeps her from going back on her word, and she is very honest and trustworthy. She doesn't like to keep the truth from anyone, even if it is a white lie. In this way, some people consider her rude. She is also just a tad gothic-like, but not really. Just a tad. Because of her calm spirit, Jady is a naturally obedient dog. She comes easily when called, and walks carefully at heel. She knows all this seemingly instinctively, having had no instruction from Moon whatsoever. History: Her parents were purebred dogs, but something happened along the breeding line that caused Jady to turn out black with golden markings, instead of pure golden. Her owners did not see the value in keeping such a strange dog, and abandoned her. Her former owners were extreme dog-lovers, however, and made sure someone would adopt her, and that they would be notified if her 'time' at the Society had come to an end so they could fetch her home if need be. Likes: Darkness, fire, strange animals Dislikes: Bright lights, crowds, larg noises Mate: Meeko Offspring: Asher, Ajax - RPs #. Title & Link. Location. Dates

___-----The Sulky One-----___
Name: Vidar Gender: Male Species: Dog Type: Hybrid Obtained: Kiza custom Personality: As a puppy, Vidar never enjoyed being in the spotlight. He always shrunk away from opportunities to be the hero or seize the day, and always preferred to do his own thing and be alone. He simply did not enjoy communicating, and never really let his body language convey much, nor did he really say much. He liked to wander, and wherever his feet took him, he would follow. History: Vidar was born in the streets, a mix of too many different breeds of dogs to be able to tell what he was. There was no father of which to speak in his life, and he grew up with the assumption that that was what happened everywhere. Fathers never had to take responsibility for their children. His mother alone managed to raise him and two other puppies, and life was peaceful enough, until Animal Control one day found the dogs' den. Vidar's mother moved the pups, but only being able to take one, she decided to pick up the smallest of the litter. Along the way, Vidar got distracted by something else and wandered off, losing track of his mother and gave up trying to find his family after a short while. - RPs #. Title & Link. Location.
