At long last, the Beta Staff is proud to present you with SE Commissions! Here you will find base prices, guidelines, and all the information you need for the ultimate in beta customs: New Special Editions! There's a lot of information here, but please read through this entire thread before asking the staff any questions.

This thread is ONLY informational, therefore it is locked. Price quotes, orders, and questions must be submitted elsewhere. A full list of completed and planned SE can be found here; neither these betas, nor alternate versions of them, may be ordered through SE Commissions.

***Staff reserves the right to turn down an order for any reason. Staff also reserves the right to edit, change, update, and alter the information and prices contained here as needed.***

The prices listed are base prices for custom SE. Actual pricing may vary from subject to subject, artist to artist due to the complexity of the order and the artist's skill level, but will never be lower than what is listed here. Price quotes are available upon request. Payment will not be taken unless the order/agreement is seen through.

Single Stage SE
This option creates new SE, either custom drawn or specially edited on the Common SE lines. These betas come as evolved merpeople and will not pass along their special traits unless an upgrade is purchased separately for them.

- Line Edited Common SE - 5k PLAT / 50 billion GOLD
- New Custom SE - 10k PLAT / 10 billion GOLD

Upgrades
Available for previously made Single Stage SE only. This option is basically purchasing the items, edits, and templates needed to turn those Single Stage SE into Breedable SE. You must purchase your upgrade from the artist that made your original SE beta.

- Upgrade to Breedable (Single Stage) - 5k PLAT / 50 billion GOLD

Breedable SE
This option creates new SE, either custom drawn or specially edited on the Common SE lines. These betas usually start as an egg and grow up through all stages and can pass along their special traits, all line edits, items, and evolved forms.

- Line Edited Common SE - 10k PLAT / 100 billion GOLD
- New Custom SE - 20k PLAT / 200 billion GOLD

Twin SE
Rarest of the rare, these betas are two fish joined at the hip. Twins are always from the same canon and always have some sort of relationship with each other. They can be lovers, family, friends, or even enemies. Twins may or may not be breedable, so it pays to read the event info carefully.

- Shop Event/Auction ONLY

OR, things to keep in mind!

Price Quotes
- All prices listed are base prices. The more complicated the beta, the more it will cost.
- Price quotes are available upon request.
- Price quotes and actual commission costs will vary from artist to artist. It is highly encouraged that you request a price quote from the artist you ultimately intend to commission.
- Price quotes will be returned as quickly as possible, but some cosplays/concepts may require additional time to check event plans and secure approval.
- Price quotes do not equal an official arrangement or order; those must be submitted separately.

Commission Orders
- Please use the provided form(s) for your order/price quote.
- One beta per commission per person per order.
- Please send your orders and trades promptly. They are due 24 hours after you are notified that your commission is complete, unless you are told otherwise by the artist.
- Yes, you may buy for a friend. Orders and trades are still due promptly.
- Please include references (written descriptions or pictures) unless you wish the artist to assume free creative license (in which the design becomes the property of the artist, not the commissioner).
- Certain cosplays/canon/fan/original characters/concepts may be turned down by a particular artist or by all artists; reasons may or may not be included. If this occurs, you are free to choose something else to submit for ordering.
- You may NOT order a cosplay/canon/fan/original character that has already been completed, even if it is a redesign/alternate costume/AU version. Concepts will be judged on a case by case basis for the required amount of originality to be allowed. You can see the full list of completed SEs here.
- PLEASE BE PATIENT. Artists will do their best to keep you up-to-date on progress, but excessive harassment may result in your order being cancelled.
- After your commission is complete, you must wait 3 months before attempting to commission another artist and 6 months before attempting to commission the current artist again.
- Do not attempt to use mules to bypass "one commission per order" or the waiting period between commissions; doing so will result in permanent disqualification from commissioning the artists.
- If you are planning to Upgrade your Single Stage SE, you MUST order it from the same artist who did the original SE. Which means you must wait 6 months before considering an Upgrade.

Q1: Meh, this post is WAY too long. Why bother reading it all?
A:
Because, Aryn will shred you into itty bitty pieces after she spent far too many years pounding three eras of beta policy to coherency.

Seriously, not reading it is disrespecting all the work the staff put into making this post as informative as possible. Asking questions that are plainly already covered here or trying to order things when they are plainly not available in spite of this post will not make the staff happy. Please respect us by taking the time to read; do it in small chunks if you have to, but please read.

Q2: What is a SE Commission?
A:
The option to order a custom special edition or specially edited special edition beta art. Custom auctions are rare and it may take a while for a particular cosplay auction or common SE set to be made. Commissions are therefore an alternate way to get new SEs.

Q3: What's available to purchase/order?
A:
All of these options are available:

* Single Stage New Custom SE (line does not pass)
* Single Stage Lineart Edited Common SE (line does not pass)
* Upgrades for Single Stage SE (Single Stage SEs only)
* Breedable New Custom SE (lines and edits pass)
* Breedable Lineart Edited Common SE (lines and edits pass)

Q4: What's NOT available to purchase/order?
A:
All of these options are NOT available:

* Previously made SE beta (See Done Post here)
* Planned or Work-in-Progress SE beta (See Planned Post here)
* Lineart Edited SEs made from non-Common SEs (See Done Post - Common SEs here for available Common SE editing options)
* Alternate versions of Previously made/Planned SE beta (released in the same shop event at the same time or not at all)
* Twin SE beta (shop events or auction ONLY)

Q5: Wait, what do all these terms MEAN?
A:
Here, have a little term guide.

* SE - Special Edition. Betas marked with this have special qualities.

* Single Stage SE - Special Edition beta that have only one stage (evolved) and cannot pass along their traits unless an upgrade is purchased for them.

* Breedable SE - Special Edition beta that have specially edited egg and fish stages and either a custom drawn or a specially edited evolve; they can pass along their traits.

* Twin SE - two Special Edition betas with specially drawn intertwining lineart or arrangement on the same cert. Rarest of the Special Edition betas and available only in shop events or auctions.

* Upgrades - Special Edition templates and edits purchased to make a Single Stage SE into a Breedable SE. These are available to Single Stage only and must be purchased from the same artist that made the original SE.

* New Custom SE - a brand new, custom drawn, nothing like it before Special Edition beta.

* Lineart Edited Common SE - Special Edition beta that takes the lineart of a "Common" SE (those that the shop is allowed to rerelease at any time; Nitemares, Angelics, Nitemare-Angelics, Lunars, Solars, Lunar-Solars, Legend of Zelda, Bunnies, Flirty Bunnies, Kissies, Geeks, etc.) and edits it as needed to create a new SE.

* SE Edition - refers to the identifying mark over the generation bubble on an SE tag and usually indicates the source (TV series, animated series, movie, video game, etc.) of the Special Edition. Tends to be a general term for all Special Editions that fall under the same source (ex: MLP, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy).

* SE Type - refers to the specific cosplay or concept that the Special Edition is based on and which evolve is assigned to it. With the exception of the Common SEs, types are usually single-gender/gender-specific (ex: Fluttershy, Vega, Yuna).

Exceptions and Oddities in Edition/Type:
-- In the case of concept based SEs, the Edition and Type are essentially the same, though Type includes the specific gender (ex: Phoenix Edition and Male Phoenix Type).

-- Common SEs tend to not have Edition marks, but are still easily recognizable as SEs. Some types are gender specific, but are part of a set; any one type within such a set can possibly produce the other two types as well as itself (ex: Legend of Zelda - Zelda, Link, Sheik; Coocoon - Saturnia, Indrid, Luna; and Nartian Rock - Kink, Dandy, Everydude).

-- Some SEs that are not Common SEs do not have Edition marks; in these cases, a suitable Edition mark was probably not able to be found/suggested/created. These will be updated in the future.

-- Some Regular betas have Edition marks or are certed on specially edited tags, but this only marks that they came from a special shop event (ex: betas given at the Chinese New Year event, Christmas event, etc.).

Q6: Why won't Single Stage SEs pass along lines or edits?
A:
To provide custom lines at a somewhat lower price, limits had to be placed somewhere. It is possible to make a Single Stage SE into a Breedable one with the purchase of an upgrade.

And then sometimes, people just want something unique that's theirs and only theirs and that's perfectly fine.

Q7: I won this Single Stage SE in an event/auction. Can I buy an Upgrade for it?
A:
That is up to the artist of that particular Single Stage SE. Some SEs are intended to be solely one of a kind and some the artists wouldn't mind seeing more of. Please check over the event information for your SE carefully.

If the event occurred before SE Commissions were set up or there is no mention of Upgrades either way included in the event information, you may ask the artist about it politely. Like Upgrades purchased through SE Commissions, the Upgrade MUST be bought from the same artist who made the original Single Stage SE.

Single Stage SE purchased through SE Commissions will always be eligible for Upgrades, unless the original artist is no longer staff at Beta Aquarium. We apologize for the inconvienience.

Q8: What about Single Stage Twinsets? Can I those be upgraded?
A:
That is up to the artist of that particular Single Stage Twinset, since most Single Stage Twinsets are drawn with NO intention to ever be be separated and/or are meant to be solely one of a kind. Two new template sets of Breedable SEs are more than likely needed to be made to make such an upgrade possible, please expect to pay at least 20k PLAT / 200 billion GOLD for it. The actual price will also be up to the Twinset's artist and will depend on complexity as usual.

Single Stage Twinsets that are already set up to produce something special when bred (ex: The V-day Angelic-Solar/Nitemare-Lunar Twinset produces one each of Angelics, Solars, Nitemares, and Lunars when bred) or that already have a breedable counterpart sold separately (ex: Princely Nekozawa/Kirimi Single Stage Twinset and Black Magic Club Nekozawa Breedable SE) CANNOT be upgraded.

Q9: What's the difference between Custom SE lines and Lineart Edited Common SE lines?
A:
The Custom SE lines are just that; a completely custom beta with lineart drawn from scratch.

Lineart Edited Common option takes the lineart of a Common SE and uses it as a base to which hair and costume edits are added and the original SE traits removed.

Q10: What makes a Common SE... well, common?
A:
Common SEs are SEs that the shop has intentionally made to be readily available for redistribution in events and sales and customs one year to the day after the event that debuted them.

You can find a complete list of all current Common SEs here.

Q11: How much control would I have over my order?
A:
Each option, one at a time.

* Custom SE - just about as much or as little as you like. If you want something specific on the evolve, you NEED to provide all the references and information that you can when the final order is placed; the artist will do his/her best within their abilities to give you exactly what you want. Otherwise the artist will assume creative license and you will have no right to complain if the beta does not turn out exactly the way you wanted.

* Lineart Edited Common - some, since there is already a base pose to work with. For a cosplay, all that is needed are several clear reference pictures, preferably at least one at a similar angle to the beta's pose. For an original character or concept, you need to provide all the item and color references and info you can if you want something specific. The artist will do their best within his/her abilities to give you exactly what you want. Otherwise the artist will assume creative license and you will have no right to complain if the beta does not turn out exactly the way you wanted.

In the case of Breedable SE (custom drawn or Lineart Edited Commons) and Upgrades: suggestions for items on the egg and fish stages are welcome, but the artist has final say on what will fit best. Offspring evolves must be 98% identical to the parent evolve; some small details may be omitted or changed on the offspring but they cannot have their own pose or look completely unique from their parent SE.

Q12: OMG! The [insert option] prices went up! WRYYYYYY?
A:
Yes, they did. This was to make the overall price distribution of commissions more balanced and accurate. Several other sections were tweaked and re-tweaked for the same reason. Also, the Gaian economy has been subjected to crazy inflation in the past year or so, due to Cash Shop gold generators and other things.

Q13: Why are these SOOOOOOOO expensive? You people must be GREEDY!
A:
You're new to breedables, aren't you? *SHOT*

A lot of work is put into new SEs, demand is high, and the artists need to be compensated fairly for their efforts. Granted, these are not the cheapest prices in the Breedables Forum, but neither are they near the most expensive. Also, see the previous question about Gaia's inflation problem.

Q14: Why did staff or so-and-so get one for free? SO NOT FAIR!
A:
Most of staff's time in the shop is spent providing you with orders (slot, letter, or anytime) and low cost events. Staff would appreciate it if on the rare occasion that they are able to do something big for themselves or as a gift to someone, that they not be harassed for it. Harassment will not endear you to them.

Rest assured though, that personal SE and gift SE are regulated and staff are required to do regular shop work after each SE (commission, personal, or gift) is completed.

Q15: Ok, so if I only want [insert bizarre in-between of options], can I get it at a lower price?
A:
Nope, because we're trying to keep this system as simple as possible.

Now, if you want a growing Non-Breedable SE (special egg, fish & evolve stages but traits do not pass), the base price would be the same as a Breedable SE. If you change your mind and want an upgrade for it, it will be another 20k PLAT / 200 billion GOLD for the evolve template.

Q16: But I'm Gaia poor! Can I pay real money for one?
A:
No, Beta Aquarium will NOT be taking real money in exchange for betas. Should this policy change, this will be updated but for now? Sorry, NO!

Q17: Ok. Do you take items then?
A:
YES! You will have to check with the particular artist about what specific items they will take, how many per trade/order, and what pricing system they prefer to use.

Generally, these items are accepted:
- Monthly Collectible letters/items
- Evolving Items
- Cash Shop items
- Alchemized Items
- GoFusion Items/Charms
- Pretty much any items that can't be easily found in the gold/plat shops.

Q18: I have no idea how much this beta would cost! Where can I find out?
A:
Commission prices will never be lower than the prices listed in this info post, but you can request a price quote to see how much more your commission may be. Quotes will vary from artist to artist, so ask the artist you ultimately intend to commission. A price quote does not equal an official agreement/order for a commission. That must submitted separately.

Q19: Can I get one of these for someone else?
A:
Yes! Just make sure all relevant information and trade is sent promptly after an agreement is made.

Q20: WAHHHHHHHHHHH! When are Commissions going to be available already?
A:
When the artists feel they have the time to dedicate to them without neglecting more important shop work (slots, sales, events, etc.). In addition shop work outside Beta Aquarium and jobs/school/general real life may also make them less available for Commissions. Please be patient!

Q21: If I offered 1 trillion meeeeeeeeeellion gold/plat/rare items, can I just bypass all these silly rules about shop work and waiting periods?
A:
No. The whole point of these rules and waiting periods is to ensure that the staff maintain the quality of their work, that regular shop work is readily available, and that everyone gets an opportunity to order a commission without a single person hogging most of them or a specific artist. New SEs are supposed to be somewhat uncommon and not the entire focus of the shop.

Q22: I really really want [insert super popular cosplay]! Can I get him/her/it?
A:
Maybe. Staff would prefer to reserve such characters for an event, but as long as nothing's planned it should be alright with approval. You are asked to seriously consider how much you would be willing to pay for the cosplay during an auction before asking about it.

However, if the cosplay or concept in question has already been made or planned, the answer is no, PERIOD. No amount of gold/plat/items or whining/ranting will change this. You can see the lists of taken and planned cosplays/original characters/concepts here

Q23: What is the deal with commissioning a new MLP (My Little Pony) beta/How do I get one? (Hasbro model or original design)
A:
All MLP must be approved by Lt Gnatty-Bug/Staff before they can be submitted to an artist for either a price quote or commission. The MLP fish templates are far too similar and easily confused (family trees occasionally need to be traced to identify the correct evolve for the female lines) for us to casually allow new MLPs to be made.

Q24: I really really REALLY want [insert cosplay/concept]! Can you reserve him/her/it for me while I get the gold/plat/items together?
A:
Nope, no reservations allowed! If someone commissions the cosplay or concept you wanted before you do or staff claims them for a future event, sorry you're out of luck.

Q25: Hey! You guys said you would never redo already made SEs and yet you DID! LIARS!
A:
While the staff tries their best to keep things as up to date as possible, they are not omnipotent and things sometimes slip through the cracks. If an already completed or commissioned SE is not listed somewhere in this post, assume that the staff has no knowledge of it and inform them of it ASAP by PM or posting in that thread.

If you choose not to inform staff about a missing SE until after we in our ignorance remake it and it has grown past the egg stage, you will be graylisted and possibly banned from SE commissions.

Q26: Ok, ok! But I think I saw a sort of duplicate beta, or something that's just weird? What's with that?
A:
What you probably saw was a beta edited with custom items. The shop allows customers to order just about whatever custom items they would like for their betas, including cosplay items, as long as it fits reasonably on the cert or defining SE traits are not removed; duplicates are allowed in this case. Think of it this way: item edited betas are dressing up as characters while an originating SE would BE that character.

In the case of some edited betas not quite falling under the usual guidelines or an odd Generation certing for a beta, it's possible someone on staff had a "I do what I want" moment (it happens; we strive to prevent future ones), it was made before these guidelines were implemented, or it's just an error that wasn't worth fixing. Feel free to contact ArynLight for clarification on specific beta.

Q27: It's been so long since I put in my Commission order! WHERE'S MY BETA? I want it NAOW!
A:
Staff will try their best to get things done in a timely manner without neglecting more important shop work (slots, sales, events, etc.). In addition, shop work outside Beta Aquarium and jobs/school/general real life may also make them less available to work on Commissions. Please be patient!

Additional FAQs will be edited in as needed as they arise.

For your and our convenience. Please be sure that you give the artist ALL the information required or needed in a coherent manner. This includes making sure all of your image links work, and that all written descriptions have been spell/grammar checked and properly formatted (no huge walls of text please! Separate your ideas!). The more thorough and complete your information, the quicker the artists can get your price quote or order completed.
