The sun had set in a brilliant and warm array of colors. The gentle breeze now wafting across the savanna whispered of a dying day. The birth of the night was upon the land, offering the first hint of stars in an inky sky. Beneath the heavenly cradle of this regular miracle there was a lioness, trying to decide just which voice in her head to believe.

One voice, in a rather grated and dark tone told her the watering hole was polluted. Another, light and chiming told her to jump in and catch the sparkles dancing on the water. There were others there as well, wishing for this and that. The lioness hushed them with a snap of her teeth. The others, well, they could have very well been standing there with her, but they were not.

She looked into the water, seeing the dim image of a mixed reflection as the water moved. Which bit, she wondered, was her true self? In the momentary silence, the thirsty lioness lowered her head for a drink.

By Nux, via AIM:

The rather young dual colored male was out stalking for 'prey' so to speak. He found himself to be bored and needed a bit of entertainment, so what did that translate to him? Well, it meant simply finding something, preferablly a female, to play with and taunt so to speak. It was his past time, his calling even. He had been deemed as a child a trickster, a jester if you will.

Yes, he had always had the mind of a schemer.

Suijin had spent his life treading on the thin line between what his mother considered right and wrong. Often he would push her to see how far he could go down the line before it either snapped or was no longer safe to travel down. And now, now he spent his days doing that to everyone and he couldn't help but love it.

The female lapped up her fill of cool water. It had tasted wonderful, despite what the voices had said. Most of them barely know what they were talking about anyways. The lioness wished for silence.

Close by, or perhaps near enough, her soft ears picked up a small rustle.

Run! Run now! half of them screamed. The other half demanded her to investigate. She went no where, however. Instead, the lioness turned, "Would you be quite!" she said to the darkness itself.

Via Nux:

At first the dual-colored male was led into the air by the sweet aroma of water. To some it had no real smell, no real taste, but he knew a good source when he found one. And boy had he hit the jackpot. Not only was there a fresh source of water, there was also his entertainment as well. He could feel the smirk slip across his features as he stepped forward still hidden by the darkness of the shadows.

He stood there, hidden, observing her to see what she was like.

Body language was the key to understanding another, and he knew exactly how to read another's body language.

Would you be quiet!

Bingo, she was talking to the air, he knew exactly what he was about to get himself into, and he was already enjoying every minute of it.

"Hello."

She turned, licking her nose with a flick of a pink tongue. "Hello," she said simply. The female was by far used to her own strangeness, and dealing with others when they met it. Had she been talking to herself again? Had he heard her? And did it really matter anyway. She turned casually to look at him, twitching an ear in the night air.
