Selena's eyes opened heavily to greet the new morning. She yawned a typical big-Selena yawn and began to stretch. The sky was dark and not much light was visible from the sun. A cloudy day. Maybe even a rainy day, was pleased to welcome itself.

Selena smiled at the invisible sun in a mocking way, she did not like the sun. Gave her heat stroke.

She slowly paced over to the cool spring she had fallen asleep beside and lapped a it, more like a cat than the Soquili she is. She could hear the sounds of nature waking from its slumber. Bird song and cricket orchestras filled the air. The mist seemed to dance along.

"I think Ill venture out to the village today." She said to herself. She almost never went there, she always felt out of place, most foals and pregnant mares stared at her with curiosity, then there was the odd Kalona that glared her down. She much preferred the silent wind of the forest and mountains. She began to trot over to the border of the forest.

'La, di-da, dee-dee.'

It was rather a tuneless way of singing, but the filly didn't care. She was enjoying the relative freedom that her mother had allowed her, Adrienne had told Sunari that she could walk as far as the edge of the forest, but she wasn't to go in, nor to cross the river.

Of course that wasn't a great distance, but it was further than she'd been allowed to go so far, what with a watchful Grandmother, an Aunt that was desperate for her own children and watched over her sister's children as if they were her own...and of course her mother who had never had children before her and her sister and brother and was terribly over anxious.

All that meant that any freedom was to be savoured. And so she did, skipping along on little hooves, her tail whirring behind her as she looked at all the sights, being drawn as if she were on a string towards the forest. Naturally she would go there, just to poke her head in...after all if the rest of her body was outside the trees that wasn't really going in? Right? Right..she grinned as she cantered nearer to the large area of brown and green.

Selena walked through the dense, tall grass of the wild forest. She felt at peace here. Though many warn of the dangers in this part of the forest - the snakes the cougars. She had no fear. She could squash a snake with her hoof, and out run a cougar.

She changed her slow pace to a skippy trot, lowering her head every so often to nibble on the fresh grass, often finding the pleasant surprise of sweet grass.

She neared the border of the forest, where the trees changed to young saplings, when she noticed a head. A small head.

Selena's mouth dropped a little and her eyebrow climbed up. What in the world...?

Then she realized it was just a filly, peering into the forest.

"You know, its better when your completely inside."

Sunari squeaked at the voice, rolling backwards, head over bottom and landed in a heap just outside the treeline. Of course it would be that as soon as she did something she wasn't meant to that she would get a fright!

She untangled herself from her gangly legs, righting and standing herself before peering into the greeny gloom to see who it was that had made her jump.

Selena laughed as she saw the little head disappeared. It must have been quite frightened at hearing the sudden voice.

She trotted over quietly to the tree nearest to the place the head had been poking around moments ago. She placed her hooves silently, just as she had taught herself over the course of her foalhood. She waited silently, allowing only the slightest breath, for the tiny head to reappear.

'Who's there?' Sunari said, trying to make her voice sound less like a filly's shrill call. She was slightly scared, voices coming out of the gloom of the trees would do that to you, but she was also curious as to who it was that was lurking in the forest.

She peered between the tree trunks, trying to see who it was. She wasn't about to poke her head back in there, in case it was one of those evil Soquilis she'd been warned about by her mother.

Of course if it was one of those, she really wanted to see it, before running away, just so she could tell her brother and sister all about it. That would be a great thing to boast about.

Selena smirked at the filly's question. She waited for the perfect moment, when the wind was gentle and thee were no sounds, not from the forest nor from the village not far off. When the filly was close to the tree which she was hiding behind, she controlled her vocal cords to make a hollow sound. Like wind blowing through a forest of dead trees in the moonless night. "Who's there you ask?"

Then she jumped out right in front of the filly's face. "ME!" She said in a whisper and showed off her teeth.
