It was right there-!

Just so close-!

Amber eyes scanned the scene once again, taking in the larger bodies walking around without a care in the world. Two-leggers, their strange hairless coats covered in even stranger... clothes? They weren't the armor of her father, though some of the trinkets they wore reminded her of her mother's bracelet. None of them seemed to notice though, the fire-haired filly that had slipped into their bustling village, slinking around the strange structures - huts? Isn't that what Grandpa Jaci called them? - as she searched for something of entertainment value.

She'd found the jackpot - she'd found treasure.

It'd just been sitting there, begging for her to come and take it someplace safe~ after all, no stunning piece of shinny likes being left out in the open like this, oh no.

Not this piece of wonder, this breath taking piece of art. Someone here was skilled for certain. A necklace, someone had taken the dull shells from the beach, cut and polished them, to show the glistening, multi-colored splendor hidden beneath the rugged exterior. Small, round white pebbles had been carved out, beads to add around the blue and purple and white striped and shifting shells. Some bright feathers, birds she'd never seen, were also thrown in here and there. It was beautiful and shinny and... she wanted it.

And so there she was, crouched behind something big and black with bubbling water inside it, the scent coming out of it as foul as the drying rabbit pelts not far away. She shivered, shaking her head slightly in disgust. Why would anyone want to eat meat?

Focus!

Once more she scanned the area, noting how no one was close enough to see her beyond the weird wooden masses on either side, the female two-leggers who'd been sitting near by before having left the vicinity to do something or other with the bones of the poor little creatures they'd just skinned and chopped up. Leaving this lovely little creation all alone, unsupervised, in the perfect rang...

Perfect.

With a wicked grin, a glint so malicious and victorious, Edana crept forward a bit more, slipping around the hot metal thing, stretching her head out just far enough...

Almost there...

Almost got it....

Almooooost~

Y E S !

And with that, she turned tail and bolted.

Her young legs took her swiftly back into the underbrush, back into the safety of the forest. She could hear no yells behind her, nothing to suggest she'd been caught. Even better.

The adrenaline rushing through her small body, the filly didn't pause in her speedy stride as she came to a large collection of boulders, all stacked together to form a mini mountain. At its peak, sitting in the sun, was an all too familiar black and blue shape. Kione himself was scowling, bristling at the sight of her with a new little stolen "treasure" in her mouth.

"The're' gonna tan ye'r' hide when they catch ya," he growled as he glared down at her, his claws scraping on the rocks as he shook a bit with his rage. Edana merely shrugged, too high off the thrill and joy to really care about anything in that moment. Instead she leapt from rock to rock, at last coming to the top where she laid herself down oh so neatly, positioning the necklace on the surface next to her so that she could continue to stare at it and its oh so many pretty colors.

"It's worth it. And besides, no one even saw me take it, so I'm fine. I'm too good a thief to ever get caught."

User ImageWell, she was wrong.

Granted, Doomfire prided himself over others and that he was the one who was always right. Why else wouldn't he be?

He had been skulking the two-leggers' area, weaving in and out of the strange things they called homes, embarking on an adventure. There were so many new things to see, so many new sounds...especially the one that this round thing made when he stomped his hoof and it smashed to the ground.

Oops.

It wasn't his fault, he huffed to himself, that they were so careless with their things! He did it all the time back with his family (He had learned it from mommy after all!) and nothing disastrous had happened!

Just by chance however, as he peeked out to see if the coast was clear for him to leave, sharp turquoise orbs spotted a foal who grabbed something...shiny by her teeth and whisk away, galloping off into the direction of the forest.

Doomfire narrowed his eyes and followed her, his forked tail swishing from side to side with annoyance. He came up the the two just as she spoke her last sentence. "So that's what you were doing? It's quite obvious you failed anyway." He had seen everything; so what kind of thief was she now?

Edana's head snapped up, Kione whirling around to hiss at the abrupt newcomer. "Told ya," the ferret spat to his annoying large charge, eyes narrowed as he inspected the strange other foal. He didn't look like a threat, though the strange horns, bone-like "spikes," and most importantly that Kalona tail didn't allow him to relax quite yet.

But the filly kept a cool head, only a frown to show she took notice of his words. Really, within, she was as bristled and snarling as Kione. How dare this little - though she most certainly wasn't one to talk - twerp interrupt her in her celebrating! And what a weird one he was! Though that was a cool tail- no! Focus! He's the enemy!

She gave a dainty snort, holding her head aloft as she gave him a dismissive look down her muzzle. "And just what exactly do you think I've failed at~? Delusional brat, you have no idea what you're talking about." As she spoke, a wonderous little game popped into her head. A thief not only had to be stealthy, but quick on their hooves when they were confronted, were they not?

Perhaps she could prove herself to be a great thief yet~!

"If you're such a good thief as you profess," The foal rolled his eyes, quirking an eyebrow at the ferret in curiosity. "Then how come I saw everything?" He narrowed his eyes at her now, inspecting her from head to tail. Oh my, she was one of those boring ones. Nothing special to set her aside from the others; no horns, no forked tail, nothing. Just a simple tail, one which he eyed in distaste. To Doomfire, it wasn't normal at all; his whole family had such interesting characteristics.

Oh well, they all couldn't be as awesome as he and his family was.

"Oh shut up, plain one." He snapped at her, stomping a hoof angrily. "You're the one who's delusional."

She rose carefully, keeping her form as elegant as she could. Oh yeah, she made this stuff look easy. She flicked her tail, drawing herself up so as to look down at him as if he were some insignificant little bug.

Which... ya know... he kind of was.

"Saw what? I didn't do anything. Have you proof I did anything?" His next words made her eye twitch, tail flick. "Plain"..? Little freak, she looked so much better than him. She could go anywhere and not be noticed, while he stuck out worse than a puss infected wound!

She gave him a sickly sweet smile nonetheless. "If I'm so plain, how are you so sure it was me who did anything? I'm so plain, I'm just like everyone else, so you can easily be confusing me with another. You've got nothing, my little ugly, puss filled wound, friend.

"And be careful - it's the "plain" ones like me that keep a simple look because, really, if we looked so amazing and kept our impossibly good personalities, the world just wouldn't be able to handle the epicness." She gave a snort, a malicious smile as she continued with a sneer, "Ones like you though, look like you do because you've gotta give the world something, gods know you've got nothing else to give."

"How about that thing there?" He asked, jabbing his tail at the necklace laid on the rock. "You know you took it, I know you took it, he knows you took it as well." The 'he' Doomfire was referring to, was, of course, the ferret. "You're just so hopelessly fallen into denial land that you choose to argue with me that you didn't take it." Which was rather pointless, really.

Doomfire narrowed his eyes at her, eyes smoldering in anger. "At least I'm special, unique. You? You're just a sorry excuse for a filly who's trying to amuse herself and make herself seem special by stealing things." Insulting him meant insulting his family, his mother and his father. And he didn't like that one bit.

A shrug of the shoulders, a smirk and flick of the tail. The whole argument was completely useless, but she was actually having a bit of fun with it, even if she wasn't being as successful as she'd rather. "And who's to say it wasn't mine, but those nasty two-leggers took it? Did you ever once think about that? They take foals you know, put ropes and heavy stuff on them and make them work. Why wouldn't they take things given to us by nice two-leggers who make us things?" Really, the two-legger her mother knew did recently make Amaris some nice bracelets and earrings, so such a situation wasn't out of the question. But this? Oh, she was a thief. A thief caught red-hoofed.

"I'm in denial - or are you? You may have heard one thing, but you don't know the full situation, now do you? A thief is a thief - but are they still a thief if they're stealing something back that was stolen something that was stolen from them?"

Kione snapped his little teeth at the stubborn colt, a glare to the equally stubborn filly. They were both so annoying! Such useless bickering, such hot-heads, the both of them. They were entering dangerous territory however, that much was clear as the red one's anger increased, her boldness turning into recklessness. Appearance was a touchy subject always - either you hurt someone's vanity, or you hurt someone's opinion on their family. Either way, it was always messy. "Th'lil brat's not'in, Edana, let's just leave 'im t' his overstuffed ego."

She gave a snort to her companion, hopping down a few of the boulders, bringing herself closer to the fuming male. "I already am special, silly little freak."

She paused, the conniving smirk fading into a calculating frown. At last it gave way to an arrogant roll of her eyes, suddenly turning with a huff as if bored with the events, jumping down the rest of the way to the ground where her direction took her past the mutant as home was some good distance beyond. "Stupid. The best treasures are never so obvious. Gotta dig deep for them. The shallow, worthless ones are the ones that look all shinny and sparkly right from the start." The moment of older, calmer insight was rarely something for her, though it was a lesson taught early by her mother.

Words that first made her want to collect all the treasures she could, especially the rare, hidden ones. Behind her, Kione picked up the necklace that stared the whole mess, flicking it so it wrapped around his neck so that he might carry it without stepping on it. Following his filly friend, he gave a dismissive snort and vague nod to the other.

"Don't be so strung up about yer appearances or always bein' right. Nice as the horns be, ye're startin' t' look 'bit shallow, d'ere. I'm sure yer folks didn't mean for dat t'appen." Stupid foals. Both of them needed to learn these little lessons.

"That doesn't make you any better than them, does it?" He made a face at her. She didn't possess something called logic. Doomfire didn't mind the two-leggers so much, especially those who would give him food. He did stomp at those who looked rather unfriendly though. And that was for safety! Mommy always did it to others who came too close to them.

"Hey!" He snapped, stomping a hoof at the otter, a growl rising from his throat. "My parents love us a lot! And you're the one being a total..."

Unfortunately, Kione did not get to hear what the colt was about to call him. "Doomfire." A stallion's deep voice interrupted, as he trotted up next to his son. "What are you doing?"

"It wasn't my fault, Dad!" The colt defended himself. "She was stealing something and being a total a*****e about it!"
