[AIM log between Polette and Reeshie Hack]
PostPosted: Sat Jun 13, 2009 8:39 pm

(( Reeshie: ))

Kweupe heard his words, and with each one her heart cracked more and more. There really was nothing left of the tiny cub she had once called brother. All that was left was a hateful, bitter creature that had beat her into the ground and threatened any family she chose to have in the future. Thank the gods he didn't know about Ini or Zikwi. Though they where near grown, they were still her babies. She couldn't bare for him to take them from her.

She attempted to stand, but the pain in her back was too great. With another scream, she collapsed into the mud, the sudden storm pelting her viciously.

(( Polette: ))

It had gotten rather late. Mauja, not used to waiting so long, had become both anxious and aggravated. He lifted himself from the rock and began to pace the river's edge. He thought she had fun with him. He thought she'd come back to be with him a little longer. But.....

Now making himself aggravated, Mauja stormed off into the direction that she had left, towards an area where the clouds had darkened. He was half lost in his own thought while he briskly trotted.

Though something....something felt wrong.

His ears twitched, hearing sounds that his brain didn't, blocked by his thinking mind. It took awhile for him to realize that what he heard were shrieks, coming from ahead.

Now in a full out run, Mauja sped along, his heart sinking into his stomach.

Kweupe tried to lift herself again. Lying there would do her no good. For all she knew, her brother might change his damaged mind and come back to finish what he had started. For her sake, and the sake of those that cared about her, she needed to get up and get away. If she could get back to Mauja, she would be safe. She was in no condition to fight Barafu again, but maybe Mauja could protect her.

She cursed as the pain doubled but she made it to her feet, her legs shaking at the gouges in her shoulders burned. It had been a selfish thought, she knew, but she didn't have many other options.
"Please don't let him come back," she prayed to whatever god would listen as she began walking shakily back towards the trees. They seemed so far away now, and the sheeting rain didn't help much.

It didn't take long for Mauja to spot the light colored girl in the distance. She seemed shaky, and Mauja only hoped that she hadn't been harmed...

With rain starting to stream down his face, Mauja came in close to Kweupe, seeing her wounds and his worst fears realized. Too many times had someone he cared about, whether it be a friend or a lover, been attacked and beaten when he wasn't around. For this, he blamed himself for a lot of it.

"Gods, girl, I can't take my eyes off you, can I?" he tried to joke, but found that it was increasingly hard to.

Kweupe smiled weakly at his joke and stumbled a bit as her body partially decided that Mauja being there meant that it could rest. Her brain stubbornly told the rest of her body that she had to keep going on, but it was getting more and more difficult for the orders to be heard.
"I... I didn't... Didn't even see him coming. Didn't know... We thought he was dead," she did her best to speak over the rain, trying to keep some of the pain out of her voice. Her throat was cut, though very shallowly, and there were much deeper ones on her back on and just below her shoulders. Her own brother... It made her want to cry.

"Who? Who would do this to my princess?" Mauja's brow twitched in anger at the thought of someone harming a female.

Seeing her weakness, Mauja crouched down, beneath Kweupe's belly, and moved underneath her. For a cheetah, his body was sturdy, and could hold another, though it was fairly difficult. He moved himself up, to slowly half-carry-half-drag her out of the heavy rain.

Kweupe wanted to protest him carrying her, but in the end she couldn't bring herself to. It was too kind a gesture and she felt so weak, physically and emotionally. It wasn't until they were back in the semi-shelter of the trees that she finally spoke again.
"My brother..." was all she managed before her voice cracked on a sob. Her baby brother, her cloud! It had hurt so much when she was little to think him dead, and for him to come back into her life in such a way...
It had cut her deeper than his claws.

Mauja felt himself jolt. Even though he had never had a family of his own, he just knew that wasn't right. "What now?" his laugh was airy, almost histaric. "Last I checked sibings were supposed to love each other." he leaned down, gently sliding Kweupe off of his back onto the smooth grass. "Or at least they weren't supposed to try and kill each other."

Laying down next to her, Mauja began to systematically lick her wounds, curling his tail around her face.

Kweupe curled close to him, needing his comfort.
"He... My father, he had enemies. When we were very young, news came to him that one had found us and was coming. My mother was going to have cubs, so she couldn't travel, so my father began to take us to his friend for our protection. First me, then my twin. When he brought Mafunde, they found our mother and... And Wingu. Abu-Moto told us they never found Wingu's body, we all thought he'd died..." she trailed off there pressing her face into his fur.

He hadn't died. He'd grown scarred, within and without, grown into a cruel, hateful creature who bore only hatred in his icy heart for his littermates.
"He hates us because we were saved and he wasn't," she sniffled, closing her eyes as tears mixed with rainwater.

"Well, he doesn't seem very nice." Mauja rested his chin upon her head briefly, thinking about it all.

"In fact, it's rather misplaced, as far as anger goes." his eyes glanced down, filled with a sorrowful look. "He shouldn't blame others for his own misfortune. If anyone, I would blame your father or his enemies." Mauja tried not to come off cold or apathetic, as he often did in situations like this. It was hard, having not known the same familial bond that they did, giving advice on the subject.

Kweupe nodded and shuddered a bit.
"There was something wrong with him, in his eyes..." she slowly shook her head, trying to lose the memory.
"He's not my brother... The tiny cub that was my Wingu really is dead," she finally decided and huddled against him. She sighed at the warmth he presented, even as the rain continued to drip down on them from spaces in the leaves.
"Thank you for coming for me..." she whispered, eyes half-closed.

"Well, you're safe from him now." Mauja licked the cut on her throat. "As long as you're with me, nothing'll happen you you." It seemed as though he'd made that promise so many times. His dear friends, they all meant so much to him.

"I'll always come for you, whenever you call for me." he reached his nose down, nuzzling her worn eyes shut.
