Given Name: Kiyo 輝悆
Elemental Name: Fire
Lucidity: Dreaming

Birthdate: 3-13 t706
Birthplace: White Whisker, Ryuukoku

Age:
14
Height: 58"
Talent: Statistics
Occupation: Counter of Citizens

Sun Sign: the Two Fans (Beautiful, tender-hearted, creative, sensitive, and prone to depression)
Moon Sign: the Water-Bearer (Kindly, eccentric, intelligent, flirtatious, not always reliable)

Mother:
Rensei
Father: Yuuyo
Spouse: None yet, but some day.. *far-off dreamy gaze*
Likes: Puzzles, riddles, praise, luxurious and convenient living, warm colors, warm people

Dislikes: Big crowds, untamed nature full of bugs, overly-critical people

Interests: Collecting myths and legends, interesting facts, and souvenirs from the different islands; trying to write her own stories

Health: Physically weak. Bugs find her delicious. gonk

Personality:
Kiyo is an extremely imaginative woman; just as her taste for childish games has not faded with maturity but instead transformed to a love of puzzles and riddles, her childhood daydreams of queens and monsters have transformed into an adult fascination with myths and legends, the romantic heroes of bygone ages, and trying to come up with tales of her own, although she currently lacks the writing skills to compose her hazy ideas into concrete stories. Her preoccupation with the intellectual and emotional realms has led those who dislike her to call her an air-head, though those close to her prefer the description cerebral.

Although somewhat naive and innocent due to her sheltered upbringing, occasionally a little bit too enthusiastic about some remarkable discovery the office has just made using aggregate data about the populace, and sometimes so wrapped up in her own inner world that she forgets to consider the feelings and perspectives of others, she is really a kind-hearted person who doesn't mean others harm. She is somewhat shy around unfamiliar people, an attribute that is sometimes misinterpreted as selfishness or nerdy social incompetence (the latter of which might not be an entirely inaccurate description,) but around those with whom she is familiar she has a brighter, livelier, more playful personality.

Some courtiers of the Empire came from nothing, scrimping and saving to buy books and rice, becoming servants in the houses of courtiers to steal glances at and memorize the rites of propriety, entering competitions and examinations to claw their way to a position in the bureaucracy. This does not describe Kiyo. In fact, her coworkers in White Whisker's census office resent this blithe, carefree, sometimes not-so-clever-acting girl who, despite being too young to have gone through the proper apprenticeship process, already holds the Ninth Rank in the bureaucracy. They murmur that it was not talent that obtained her place here but the influence of her mother, Judge of the fairly large city of White Whisker, and her two elder sisters also in the courtly arts, Ren'yuu, an Imperial Inspector, and Renshaku, Architect of Lower White Whisker.

To some extent, this characterization is true. Coming from a wealthy, highly educated, and well-placed family, Kiyo has never faced real difficulty in her life; whenever troubles threatened her happiness, her mother, father, or elder sisters would swoop in to rescue her. Consequently, she has an overly optimistic, carefree attitude towards life; her comfortable station and her family's shielding from sorrow and difficulty have allowed her to remain childish and innocent. However, it is not true that Kiyo is undeserving of her position; she is extremely accomplished in mathematics, especially the type of computation and analysis used in the census office. Other Counters may feel that she does not pull her weight, as she rarely goes out to participate in the counting, but she is in fact busily at work in the office, crunching numbers at an amazing speed for the District Master.

Due to her intelligence, organizational ability, and tractable, (usually) responsible, and (fairly) polite personality, it is likely that even as a Dreaming woman Kiyo could be promoted far. She is still very young, though, and her daydreams are not yet that ambitious. For now, she is content with her position, as it remains predictable and easy, she is close to her family, and she still has plenty time for herself, to entertain her fancies.

Kiyo's days were routine -- waking, eating, working, sleeping at the same time, her only great thrills and adventures come when she dreams, either in daytime idleness or in sleep, as in this dream. She walked along a packed dirt road that led from the marketplace back to her little family farm, where her mother and step-father would be waiting for her -- or at least, where they would be waiting for her if they were not distracted by the horde of step-siblings demanding their attention. She sighed and kicked a pebble as she went, uncertain that she really wished to return.

Bored, she scanned the horizon -- something interesting ought to happen now, after the exposition. And, on cue, she spotted a rider approaching at a gallop from the direction of the marketplace -- a Knight, probably, as there often were in her dreams, and she smiled with pleasant anticipation. ... But, as the mount and rider drew closer, she began to feel confused, and then, strangely, surprised -- this was not the fair-haired, honey-eyed rider of Houkoku she often met in the dreamworld, but a dainty-featured, black-haired man with bright gray eyes, dressed in dark silks and a style of armor reminiscent of that of Rinkoku but strangely different. Even more bizarre, though, was his animal -- not a lizard but some strange furry dragon-beast she did not recognize, with long hair, Porcelain-like, sprouting from its neck and rump.

"Don't wake," he said to her as he pulled up; strangely, those words and the soft, warm voice speaking them convinced her, and she let go of the shock that had been about to return her to the waking world, relaxing back into the illogic of the dream. "I have a quest for you, one only you can carry out, that will take you far from your family for many months but will save many Queendoms from extinction."

A quest seemed nice, if a bit cliche. Still, Kiyo was puzzled -- why only her? She was just a calculator... or, well, a farmer, or whatever she was... what ability could she possibly have that other women did not?

In response, he smiled and offered her his hand. She took it without hesitation; it was soft and cool, not like a Knight's hand ought to be. As he pulled her onto his beast, she wrapped her fingers in its strange, coarse mane; he threw one sleeve over her, in a protective gesture, before urging his animal forward. It wheeled, then sped off, flying over the ground at a supernatural speed as he leaned forward -- his neck smelled perfumed, like delicate jasmine flowers -- and murmured in her ear, "To see things the others will not see..."

This dream dissolved into other things, disjointed images of catfish and serpents, the children's-school Kiyo had not visited for many years, whole pits of pearls and rounded stones that were awfully hard to walk across, and so forth. All very normal things... but leading to a very unusual conclusion. She woke not in her bed in the room she still shared with Renshaku, but on an uncomfortable wooden floor, her body full of strange stiffness and aches. Her neck, at least, was all right, as a bundle of clothes in a masculine style had been placed under her head, like a cushion. And over her, a long black coat in a Knight's peacetime fashion with delicate white embroidering along the edge.

Of mosquitoes.

Golden World:

Rensei- my beloved mother. heart Even though she's often busy with her duties as Judge of White Whisker, I know she loves my sisters and I very much.

Yuuyo- my darling Papa. heart He's always been there for me. He hasn't been feeling too well lately, I hope he gets better. cry

Ren'yuu- my eldest sister. She has a very important job as an Imperial Inspector. surprised She brings me lots of fun souvenirs (like toys!) from the places she visits. 3nodding

Ryokuyuu- my second eldest sister, she also has a very important job, but not as an Inspector. She's a captain in the Ryuukoku Army! eek She's stationed in Root of the Scales, so I haven't seen her as often over the last five years, but she does still keep in touch.

Renshaku- Another sister! She's not too much older than me. She's the Architect of Lower White Whisker. I love her, but she's a bit too serious to be much fun. talk2hand

Gaia:

Dori Elf- a nice, if a little bit anxious human woman. I landed in her house some how. She's forgiven me for scaring her though, and wants to help me out. 3nodding

User Image Hitsuga- He seems very kind. I wish I didn't embarrass myself the first time I met him. gonk

User Image Oukou- I didn't have a chance to talk to her when we met. Maybe I will next time.

User ImageMeirou- Maybe it was loneliness, but I immediately liked Miss Meirou. She's very cheerful. I hope we'll be great friends.

Dori's Info:

Name: Dori Elf
Age: 20
Height: 5'4
Weight: 170-ish

Appearance: Dori is extremely pale, so pale in fact that her veins can be seen through her skin in a few places. She's of average height and a bit heavy, with the extra weight settling round her stomach and bust. Her best feature is her legs, which are long and shapely. Her worst feature is her caboose... which is very VERY flat.

Personality: Dori can be very shy, but it's not hard to make friends with her; really all you need to do is offer her food. Keeping her friendship is more difficult however, because as she becomes more anxious about doing something wrong she'll try to avoid contact. She is generally cheerful, unless the anxiety attacks are really bad. She can have trouble seeing the viewpoints of others.

Talents: Dori is fairly good at painting and at singing. She lacks confidence in her own work though, so seldom wants to share.

Likes: Doritos, pepperoni pizza, cola, RPG's, swimming, musicals, reading fantasy/sci-fi, solitude

Dislikes: strangers, yelling, being commanded to do things, loud noises/music, sports

Other stuff: Dori looks, and for all intents and purposes is, fully human. Her last name is the only indication of any non-human heritage, the easily distinguished pointed ears having long been bred out.

She comes from a large family, and only recently moved out on her own. Her siblings might stop in from time to time, but she generally tries to avoid them.

Dori wears a silver promise ring on her right hand, that is beginning to look a bit tarnished.
