First things first, your character is YOUR character. You decide who they are, what they feel, how they behave. You decide what their favorite color is, who they would like to shag, why they died. It is up to you to make those details and to make them pertinent to your character.
Does your character have a phobia about bees? why? Perhaps they died as a result of an allergic reaction to bee stings? You are the one to decide that.
When posting, you are writing for that character. Make sure that things they do are what your character would actually do. Don't put up what you think that we want you to put up, you aren't being graded here. Put up what your character actually would do.
Give your character flaws. No one likes a character that is perfect in every way. No one likes a story in which the main character does all their homework and eats all their vegetables. Make them have bad moods, surly, trip and fall when they try to walk and chew gum, or be a fashionista. Some character flaw that makes them interesting.
Think of Rangiku. The two things you think about when you hear her name is her boobs and her drinking. That's what makes her character unique in the Bleach world. Think about the rest of her personality and how it's used throughout the series, how those two aspects come into play when she's on screen and in the episode. How she uses those "assets" to get what she wants and how she reacts to others who see only breasts. She conned Orihime into letting her stay with her since they both had big breasts after all. Would the episode have been the same if she didn't have those?
Now think about your character. Do they have anything like that you can use in your roleplays?
The other thing I want to mention is character Plot.
In this guild we don't have one overriding plot line. Occasionally we will have a guild wide plot that everyone can participate in, but mostly it's a matter of you coming up with your own roleplays. Most don't have to be approved, but some do. If you want to have a plot line where your character goes to Earth to hunt hollows and makes friends with a Bount, then do so. You don't have to get anyone's approval for it.
If you want to play out your character remembering his life while he was alive, then do so. It is YOUR character. We don't have assignments to give out, we don't have "missions" really, just guild wide plots that we sometimes supervise.
And speaking on that front, if there is a plot going on, it is up to YOU to fit yourself into that plot line. I'm not going to tell you where to go and what to do, Wolfess, the Captain Commander isn't going to do that either. She may tell you that your squad's responsibility is to go to X place and guard it, but she isn't going to be posting about being attacked by hollows and arancar, you will have to.
Get with other members of the guild and come up with plots for your character. Go on missions you develop for yourself. Do give a general outline of that mission to your Captain just to make sure it's not going to screw with another roleplay in progress, but for the most part this is an interactive story. YOU have to tell ME about your character and what they do. YOU have to get with others in the Guild and make sure that you ALL understand the goal of a small plot.
Want to come up with a soccer match between 3rd squad and 8th squad, one where you can use weapons of your choice? Get together with those people and discuss your idea and how the basic concept works, then improvise off that basic theme as others participate in the roleplay too.
Or if you want to go and kill hollows on Earth, go through forum after forum, posting that you come in, you see a hollow roar, you swing and kill it, or blast it with a Kido, and you jump out to another thread. No one is going to say you can't do that, no one is going to jump you for doing that. It might even add something to their roleplay.
Imagine:
Daven Moto is fighting an arancar, he's worked the beast around so that its back is to the wall and Daven is about to deliver the final stroke. Suddenly your character jumps in and does a Shot of Blue Fire to the arancar as it's trapped and Daven's swinging. My next post is probably going to be something like this:
"Daven stumbled and his sword clanged into the ground as the Shot of Blue Fire hit the arancar and killed it before he could. He lost his balance and went ears over tails from the unexpected event. He jumped up and tried to yell at the shinigami who fired, but they were no where to be found. Daven was PISSED and went off to find something else to kill."
But don't do that without their permission. But it is also up to ME to determine how your actions affect my character. That's why we don't have a Stats-based RP here.
Now, Go forth and play!
