Who: Kenth, Ethan and maybe Vyn
Where: Barton, Kenth's clinic
When: Late morning

A new patient. That was something Kenth did not receive often nowadays.

Even though he had opened a clinic for almost half a year now, the patient flow was relatively small. Because the world was so healthy, most patients only come for a routine check-up once a year or perhaps once in two years. As a result, for most of the times the clinic was empty, with Kenth hiding in the back office doing paperwork and continuing on his research. With the addition of the strange soul bottle and fel essence the doctor had spent a great deal on observing these new subjects of interest, therefore the clinic became even more empty than before. Kenth did not mind the emptiness of his little facility. It was cost-efficient, able to run by itself with just the insurance money and, if all else failed, Kenth still had leftover grant money which were certainly enough to support the clinic for many many years. Because the facility was so small, the doctor did not bother to hire a nurse. For one, he was not a sociable person, and more importantly Kenth had enough confidence in his organizing and clinical skills that a nurse would only slow his works down. So for now, there was no problem.

Even so, to make sure that he was perfectly prepared for every one of his appointments, Kenth made a habit of calling the patients beforehand. The patient coming in today, Ethan Blake, was one of the few patients that Kenth could not reach. The doctor left a message on the man's phone, and had not heard from him ever since. The man was rather interesting, much to Kenth's discontent, with a seemingly large ego. Kenth concluded this matter from the first call he had ever received from Ethan. He wasn't there to pick up the phone, and the man left a lengthy message in regards to the appointment. It wasn't just a "I would like to come for a routine check-up" message, but rather a complaint about why the doctor wasn't in his office. Reminded of the message, Kenth shifted uncomfortably in his seat, eyeing back and forth between the clock and the patient information in his hand. The good thing was that Ethan made an effort to give all (perhaps a little too much) information he needed. The man looked healthy enough, this would be a short appointment.

At least, Kenth hoped it would.

Nobody enjoys going to the doctors; all the prodding, poking and possible testing if the slightest thing was wrong – it just wasn’t a pleasant experience. However, it was a necessity to make sure nothing was broken or malfunctioning and for the ever aging businessman ensuring that everything was in correct working order was one of his top priorities, regardless of how much he detested the process. For that reason he had done plenty of asking around to make sure he got the best medical care available. His inquiries had led him to this small establishment, not as flashy or grand as other clinics but according to his source the one doctor working there was efficient and good at his job (more so than the often pompous doctors at other more well known places).

Ethan had however been slightly irritated by the fact he hadn’t actually spoken to the doctor yet; he hadn’t been there to pick up his calls and unfortunately whenever the doctor phoned him, Ethan missed the calls because of work or pressing need from Vyn. Regardless of that Ethan had turned up to his appointment as arranged... Though one thing that he hadn’t arranged for was Vyn. He couldn’t leave her at home, especially so soon after the fiasco with her powers, and so he’d reluctantly brought her along. The appointment would hopefully be swift and if the man examining him was professional he would get on with his job and ignore the floating girl.

Straightening up his suit he strode towards the entrance of the clinic, might as well bite the bullet and get it over with rather than continuing to linger outside. Unsurprisingly Vyn was in her usual place, floating a meter or so behind him with headphones rammed into her ears. She followed him without saying a word, today wasn’t a particularly good day for the rose. The sunshine was too bright and was hurting her delicate vision, Thorn had peed on the floor this morning and now she was being dragged into some doctors place which undoubtedly would be boring and a waste of time... (Not that she had any other plans, but she was disgruntled regardless.)

Upon entering Ethan coughed lightly, alerting the doctor of his presence as it seemed that just like Ethan’s phone calls, he wasn’t met by the man himself. “Hello? Dr Larine??

Kenth heard the footsteps, but decided not to move an inch until the other man started calling for him. While waiting for the new patient the doctor's attention was, once again, drawn to his new research subjects, which made him even less enthusiastic about the appointment. Even after Ethan called, there was a pause before Kenth finally got himself up and gathered around all the materials needed and heading out to the door. He was able to locate Ethan at first glance, but immediately discerned Vyn not too far away from him. At first Kenth thought he was imagining things and that Vyn was only an ordinary female with slightly bizzare features, but soon he realized the female had but an upper torso, the rest of her body consisted of black floating ribbons. With the delivery from Dr. Kyou's lab not too long ago Kenth immediately recognized the similarity between Vyn and Alex's Raevan. Zul, was it, was probably the same kind as the female that he was staring at now.

Kenth did not dare to look at Vyn for too long before shifting his attention back to Ethan. Although a little surprised at the sight of the female, he still looked composed as this was not the first time he had seen a Raevan. After all, he could be taking care of one soon...

"Mr. Ethan Blake, is it? Apologize for the wait, I'm Kenth Larine, pleasure to meet you." For the sake of manner the doctor smiled a little and extended his hand to the other man for a shake. An educated man was the first description that came to Kenth's mind, despite the fact that he was quite displeased with the previous voice message. The doctor had a slight hope that this man was perhaps not too much of an annoyance, and the appointment would go smoothly.

When the white haired man revealed himself Ethan tutted slightly, clicking his tongue in annoyance. Surely it wouldn’t hurt the doctor to be ready and waiting for his patients. If it was only him working here, as it seemed, surely good personal service would be a necessity to keep clients pleased? However, Ethan decided against making further comment and instead mirrored Kenth’s polite smile with his own expression of fabricated happiness. “Yes, good morning to you Dr. Larine." He took the outstretched hand and shook it firmly.

After introductions were complete the businessman decided to tackle the matter of the sullen frei drifting around the reception, running her black nail across the back of a waiting chair. Ethan was slightly on edge with her in this temperamental mood... Since the confrontation with Domelov she’d been swinging from sullen to relatively talkative. It was frustrating to say the least! However, despite how much she probably wanted it, he couldn’t just ignore her. “I know I didn’t say in advance... But would it be ok if my... daughter of sorts... accompanies me?” He gestured loosely to Vyn. He’d seen the man’s blue eyes flick to her earlier but thankfully he hadn’t stared, as Ethan had hoped the doctor had been professional. “If not I’m sure she’ll be fine waiting here.

Despite being in her own little world, head bobbing, rune flaring vigorously to the beat, Vyn did notice out of the corner of one dark eye Ethan make a hand gesture towards her and curious to what the businessman was saying she turned down the roaring tune to a dull tremor. It turned out to be nothing of interest; she was really quite indifferent to what transpired... The clinic didn’t seem as though it was going to have any more patients any time soon so she would have the waiting room all to herself for a while (a relief since the last thing she desired was a handful of people ogling at her whilst she was in her current mood), on the other hand if she was allowed to accompany her guardian into his appointment it could be quite interesting to see what the cold looking doctor did.

After shaking hands with Ethan, Kenth retracted his arm rather quickly and took out the pen that was secured to his chest pocket, getting ready to record any sighs that could indicate any ill health from the man. The doctor was silent for a while, listening to his patient's request. It wasn't clear whether he actually heard Ethan's words, as Kenth's expression remained unimpressed. The only indication came after the man had finished speaking, when Kenth nodded and said "I understand". A Raevan's guardian would always want to keep watch, although Alex seemed to be brave enough to leave Zul alone. Kenth reasoned that each Raevan behave differently, because the female that he saw certainly felt different from the fierce male Alex brought.

"There are certain tests that are included in the check-up today, since you are a first time patient in my office. If your Raevan does not mind seeing blood to be drawn, by all means, let her watch." Kenth said lightly, pushing up his glasses a little as he looked up at Ethan. The word "Raevan" was unconciously used as Kenth could not think of any other words to call Vyn by. Any normal individual would be able to tell the two beings here were not blood-related, and since Ethan was absolutely vague about it, Kenth decided it was not the best time to be excited about seeing another subject of interest. This was, after all, a check-up for Ethan, not Vyn.

"If there are no other questions, then please have a seat---" The doctor gestured a row of chairs neatly placed against the wall on the left of his office door. "---over there. I will have some paperworks for you to fill out, and after that we can begin the check-up."

Well Ethan could safely conclude that Dr. Larine wasn’t the social type... He didn’t react in the slightest to Ethan’s inquiry and the cold natured reply was quite bizarre. The businessman was used to smarmy private doctors, full of smiles and witty little titbits of conversation that lulled people into a sense of security prompting return journeys whenever they felt a cough or sniffle – resulting ultimately in more money for the doctor. Kenth on the other hand seemed just as Ethan’s advisor had said; efficient, no-nonsense and professional. For that reason Ethan didn’t bulk away, instead he managed his best gracious nod at the doctor before turning to pose the question to his petulant frei.

You won’t get queasy at the sight of blood, will you?” He was pretty certain that she would be just fine, it wasn’t like the blood would be gushing all over the room like an abstract out of a horror movie - Just a small p***k and siphoning of the crimson liquid. Yet again Vyn looked disinterested but the fact that she drifted over spelled that she would like to accompany him, the chance of another client arriving seemed slim but it was possible, plus the process of a check up was intriguing to her.

Following the man’s directions Ethan promptly seated himself, shuffling back against the chair and crossing one leg in an attempt to make himself comfy. Vyn just bobbed near the wall and laced her fingers together, entwining some of the headphone chord as she watched through fed-well golden eyes. She’d snuck the volume of her music back up again after permission for her to watch had been gained, however she’d just about heard mention of paperwork above the roaring rock. It would undoubtedly be boring for an onlooker like herself... Her day really wasn't perking up.

To tell the truth, it was usually prohibited for another person to accomany the patient during exams. Kenth didn't mind it personally, however, and he had his own selfish desires to keep watch on the Raevan. The doctor made a good effort not to stare at Vyn, but for numerous times he glanced at her, and it was enough for Kenth to conclude that the Raevan did not like the place very much. Taking a moment to sort out the paperwork in his hands, Kenth handed Ethan a few sheets of paper, sitting down beside him so it was more convinient for him to explain what the patient should be doing.

"Here is a waive and release form, if you want your result to be sent to anyone, fill this section out. Otherwise keep everything blank and sign at the bottom of the page. ...This one is a personal information form, and this over here is a questionare about your health habits. The last one here is information on your insurance...just make sure everything is correct on there and sign on the bottom."

Handing Ethan his pen, the doctor looked up at Vyn who looked unconditionally bored. Out of curiousity he started to speak to Vyn.

"Miss, there are magazines in the cabinet at the end of the row, or if you prefer, there is a garden at the back of the clinic. Feel free to wander around if you want?"

---Provided she doesn't destroy anything, of course. Kenth thought, turning to Ethan, expecting him to say something to ensure that the Raevan was not a monster who could cause havoc in his clinic.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 05, 2009 1:58 pm

I see, I see.” Ethan mused as he followed the man instructions. Not wanting to dilly dally he swiftly filled out the forms, easily putting his details down on the paper with swift strokes of the pen given to him the paper was quickly littered with his details and sealed with his signature in neat blue handwriting. He was used to paperwork, being a huge businessman obviously resulted in heaps of the stuff; admittedly most could be filtered out through secretaries and suchlike, but he still had a neat pile on his desk most days to work his way through. When they were all completed correctly he patted them into a neat arrangement again and offered them back. “Done.

Whilst her adopted father filled out the forms Vyn took the advice given by the cold doctor – the cabinet of magazines could yield something interesting enough to hold her attention whilst all the boring formalities took place. She drifted over, seemingly disinterested as she flicked through the selection. Most appeared to be the type of magazines that were illogically popular with humans; shiny things, chock block with gossip on celebrities and what was going on in the latest t.v soaps - totally mind numbing to the gothic raevan. However, amongst the trashy magazines there was a sliver of something worthwhile: a music magazine with the front cover proclaiming that inside the glossy covers was an article on J-rock. Raising a thin brow she opened it up with interest and began to read...

Waiting for the next stage in the medical interview Ethan caught sight of Vyn reading a magazine... He was pleasantly surprised that she was busying herself rather than hovering around in the peripherals, he didn’t want her to be a nuisance to the doctor, despite the fact that so far Kenth was indifferent to her floating bust form.

Kenth turned around to receive the neat pile of paperwork handed in by Ethan. He gave the other man a slightly amused look, not hiding the fact that he was (rather pleasantly) surprised by how fast the man worked, but also a little doubtful if Ethan had read anything that was on the documents at all.

"Thank you." Kenth replied shortly, inviting Ethan into a private patient room. He eyed Vyn, who made herself busy among his collection of magazines, but paid no need. This was not the first time a Raevan had been wandering in his clinic, and the last one seemed far more dangerous than Vyn. The doctor gestured at the leather bench, which would be used for any physical examination, and signaled Ethan to sit. Kenth himself found his comfortable place in a common office chair, and placed the paperwork on the desk closest to his hands. He then reviewed the documents quickly to make sure Ethan had filled out everything correctly, before turning back to the man. A smile for the sake of courtesy was on his face, and, out of the same courtesy, Kenth asked,

"now, Mr. Blake, what can I do for you today?"

The answer to the question was quite obvious, Kenth believed, but it was out of professional practice that he had to make sure, out of the patient's mouth, what he was going to do was what Ethan wanted him to do.

The businessman did as he was instructed, sitting obediently on the bench and casting an interested grey eye around the room. Neat, clean and organised, everything that a good doctor’s practice should be like; so far Kenth was certainly living up to his good reputation! He crossed one leg and sat up straight as he was asked what Kenth could do for him. The answer was of course obvious and Ethan responded fairly quickly, a small smile playing over his lips. “A basic examination, making sure everything is working fine. Just the usual routine for you I suppose.

Vyn flicked through the article, digesting the information with mild interest. Lots of the bands reviewed she’d listened to already and had their songs downloaded onto her music player already – thus, despite being curious as to how the magazine rated them, much of the information presented in the magazine was nothing new to her. There was however a small sub-article about the J-rock concert she and Riv had gone to, with only a small mention of the events that had triggered Vyn’s powers. However, all things considered, there wasn’t enough to hold her attention for long as she soon found herself drifting aimlessly around the room...

The adults had retreated into the door on the right – presumably where all the medical action would occur. However, rather than following them and watching the check up out of boredom she instead decided to look into the room on the right. She wasn’t being nosy, she wouldn’t touch anything or snoop around. She was just bored... Anyway, she met no resistance as it wasn’t locked, why would Kenth lock it whilst he was still present only a room or two away? Inside seemed fairly mundane; a tad like Ethan’s study at the penthouse. Nothing to catch the girl’s attention...

She almost closed the door straight away, thinking it foolish now especially since the garden Kenth had informed her about would most likely hold more interest. Except just as she was stating to reclose the door and back out...

She spotted a curious par of objects on the desk...

A spherical bottle with a scrap of floral material, odd and a cloud floating serenely in a jar, even odder. Now these were worth investigating...

Just the usual routine...Kenth nodded mechanically. There was a raevan outside of the room, but other than that, the day was nothing special. Kenth's eyes ran quickly through the list of things that were included in the basic examination, some of which he read out loud to Ethan so the man could hear it.

"Asides from measuring your weight, height, checking up on your circuation systems and blood pressure, you will also take a urine and blood sugar test, the last of which will require some blood sample from you." Kenth had warned the man before about blood, but really, the most extreme case if something went wrong would be a small amount of blood squirting out from Ethan's arm. "The various content levels will be mailed to your address when I receive the results."

Putting the paper down, Kenth turned to Ethan and slightly adjusted the bench-chair he was sitting in. "We'll proceed with your circulation system first. Please lie down. "

Meanwhile, the doctor thought he heard a small noise outside the room. Though he brushed the noise off as the raevan digging through the magazines. Although Kenth had to admit, this raevan was unusually quiet compared to the one he had seen before (not that Zul was noisy, but Vyn was simply more quiet than he was).
PostPosted: Thu Sep 17, 2009 2:34 pm

Ethan nodded as the doctor listed off what they would be doing. It seemed like quite a lot to get through, but then again, this was his first appointment with Kenth and these would most likely make up his records for any later appointments thus it was understandable for a lot to be required to build up his record to a satisfactory level. Not wanting to hold up the man he followed instructions, lying down on the leather bench placidly. However, he did feel a little guilty for Vyn having to wait outside. At least she had seemed content with her magazine...Perhaps he could treat her to something afterwards, not that it would brightened her mood much – she was in an exceedingly sombre mood today.

So how long have you had this practice?” Ethan asked, striking up a conversation. Sitting in silence might get the job done quicker, but it would be almost unbearably awkward...

Curiosity got the better of her. The two objects – yes – they were awfully familiar. Vyn had been made aware of how her kind were created. All raevans consisted of two parts; a soul and a fel essence, something that just shouldn’t exist naturally. She had been a rose and a shadow without a caster. The memories of Shuura taking her to the place where her soul had been caught lingered in the backlog of her mind and the photos of her two parts before they were combined sat in a folder in Ethan’s desk... These curious objects on the Doctor’s desk... Would they be another raevan eventually?

The probably answer to the question was quite incredible and left the shadowy girl’s mind racing. Quietly she glided from the doorway to the desk, hands gently extending to touch the cold glass of the jar containing the fel essence... (She carefully skirted around the soul container – anything that could take a life was potentially dangerous and not to be trusted, even if the soul would be going to a good cause.)

The cloud was perfectly formed; fluffy, white and swirly gently as if stirred by a gentle zephyr. Vyn smiled, perhaps this day wasn’t so bad?

Kenth waited for Ethan to lie down, then efficiently pressed hooked up the stethoscope to his ears. His hand then took hold of the chest piece and pressed it against the man's chest, listening to see if there were any abnormal pulses. To Ethan's question he simply answered "a few years" before telling the man to take a deep breath, hold it, then let it out as he was instructed. The doctor did not bother to keep the conversation going, simply because this was not the right time to do so, despite the fact that he was pleased by Ethan's professional manner. After testing the front, Kenth stepped back a little and instructed his patient to sit up and turn so that his back was facing the doctor. There, he pressed the chest piece to Ethan's back, and told the man to do the same.

"Heart rate is normal, breathing pattern regular." Kenth concluded. Then, he clamped his two hands on Ethan's shoulder, and pressed his fingers against the man's muscle. "Let me know if any area hurts when I press against it."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:08 pm

The businessman obeyed the doctor’s commands; moving this way and that, breathing normally, breathing deep. He had received a minimal response to his ice-breaker but wasn’t too put out. After all, how could the man work properly during a breathing examination if he was busy chatting away? Perhaps the man would be more responsive during a more passive examination – blood pressure maybe. All that needed was his arm, his lungs would be free to waste their breath on idle chit-chat.

Feels just fine.” He responded, closing his eyes as the man’s fingers probed his shoulder area. All was going well- No. Actually that hurt. Like a dull ache as Kenth applied pressure. It wasn’t terrible pain... But the doctor had said to speak up if it wasn’t quite right... “Where you just pressed, that felt different. Like a twinge.”

Vyn cupped the jar in her hands, picking it up off the desk to examine it closer. As expected the jar was light. Evidently its contents weighed as little as the cotton wool it resembled. Her smile widened as she placed the jar in the crook of her arms almost like she was cradling a baby... This was to Vyn almost like a baby, thus it had to be treated with utmost care. In fact, she was almost surprised that Kenth could leave the two items alone...

Gently she carried her new interest into the waiting room, sitting down on one of the benches – black eyes still locked on the cloud. Her mind had completely eradicated the possibility that if Kenth found her he might be annoyed.
