She was in heat.
And she hated it. Sitting in the back of her den, curled up in a small ball right at the back out of sight of the entrance, she had her head firmly sat underneath her paws as she tried to block out the feelings caused by the extra hormones coursing through her veins. She gave a small whine, fidgeting a little on the spot, feeling incredibly uncomfortable in this position but not wanting to move.
It had been horrible. She hadn't quite realized at first - she'd thought it was just something strange and odd. Perhaps she'd eaten a bad bit of meat. She'd been carrying a rabbit back to the den, hoping to impress Faiz. And then...she'd noticed. As she walked through the pridelands, every male eye seemed to be on her. Watching her, and not just in the normal, wishful way. Like they were...hungry. The usually quiet, shy female had been forced to growl, and even bat away one of the younger males as she'd dropped the rabbit, fleeing back to her den. None had been stupid enough to follow.
She hated this feeling. The feeling that she was helpless over her own body. She wanted someone to hold her - someone to hold her and tell her it was alright. But she doubted she'd get it - even Faiz was a male. And males just didn't cut it right now.

Faiz was within sight of his den and already he was royally. Pissed. Off.
They weren't so much near the den, but close enough to upset him, and he knew the scent on the air. They were his harem, and he could see through the other males' casual facades as they hovered near enough to upset him, like the vultures they were. Of course, at a time like this, anywhere near his den was enough to rile his temper and he bared his teeth viciously and growled low, reminding the others that he had not been a Vizier prior to his brother's rising to Sultan for nothing. Despite his usual attitude, the young Vizier was hard and ruthless in battle, taught by the Sultan himself in the ways of fighting. None dared pick a fight with him.
He stalked into his den, heading for the back with purpose. In truth, he was probably a rather scary sight. He was still a little agitated at the disreguard of the others and he looked so much larger than normal, walking with a gait that reminded everyone of the predator and warrior within him. He stopped at Tuliua's side, looming over her a bit, breathing deeply as he reigned in his righteous anger and the other emotions that rose at the scent of his beautiful little flower.
It took a few moments of him just standing over her, but eventually he calmed enough to lean down and nuzzle the side of her head.
"You should stay in the den until this has passed, 'Liua," he whispered softly, his voice coming out a little more heated than he had originally intended.

She heard growling and began to quiver lightly, afraid of someone entering. Surely none of them would dare enter her den? But then again, she'd thought none would dare approach her, with Faiz being her male...he was a Vizier, which was a rather high rank. But clearly hormones were what truly ruled, and she didn't like it. Not one bit. She heard footsteps and instantly drew breath in, cautiously lifting a paw from her head so that she could open an eye, and see what was happening.
She saw a grey paw which she instantly recognized as Faiz's, and peeled the other paw away to look up at him with a rather woeful expression, clearly showing her distress, and how upset she was over this. Her eyes noticeably flashed a little with fear as she noticed how much larger Faiz seemed, and how agitated he was. Had she angered him in some way? Was she supposed to have come to him, instead of running back to the den? She remembered not to cower this time, since that had upset him last time, but her ears flattened against her head as she watched him with wide eyes.
"They won't go away," she whispered in reply. Perhaps he was angry that she'd made so many males turn up? She couldn't see how many were out there, but she didn't even want to think about it. "I-I had to push them away. I...I-I'm sorry."
In an attempt to try and show her sincere, apologetic feelings she pushed herself to her fet, stepping forwards to nuzzle Faiz's cheek, unaware of the effect she was probably having on him. She was young - and last time this had happened she'd been very, very alone.

The Vizier couldn't hold back his angry growl at her words.
"I should remove that fool's ability to have cubs for coming that close to you," he said in a very possessive tone of voice, and promptly sat and wrapped his paw around her shoulders, pulling her close to him in a hug.
"It isn't your fault, 'Liua, I'm not angry at you. And don't fear, my flower, I've chased them away," he added with a small sigh at himself for having difficulty focusing properly. "They won't be foolish enough to come near you again. Any that do will answer to me."
He leaned back a bit so that he could smile down at her. She was so very beautiful, as all of his harem were. Soft golden eyes, soft colors, intricate markings. They looked stunning on her and he was certain they would look just as beautiful on her cubs.
Oh, how he wanted children. Little boys to teach and train, to carry on his bloodline. And beautiful little girls to spoil and eventually choose good males for. He would never give one of his daughters to a cruel male. If he had to, he would keep them in his harem, as huntresses and aids.
But he would never force his females. It was such an awkward thing to ask, but he always would.
"Tuliua, do you wish to have cubs in the near future?" he asked softly, placing his head atop hers for a moment before looking back down at her.

He was growling! That was always bad! She started to give a small whimper, before realizing exactly what he was saying - he wasn't angry at her, but the males who had tried to approach her? She felt blood rising to her cheeks as she blushed furiously, mortified that she'd even thought he could be angry at her! How many times had he told her, he'd never be angry at her? The hug made her purr softly, although due to the...situation her purr was a little deeper, and slightly rougher. Tuliua didn't notice, simply nuzzling him again gratefully.
"Thank you," she spoke softly, although again there was the slightly rough edge in her voice that she couldn't help. Her body was acting on it's own in so many ways, and she just wanted it to stop.
His next question threw her, though. Her eyes widened, her nostrils flared and her ears flicked backwards in surprise as she looked up to him with a mixture of fear and surprise. Was he going to make her? No...he wouldn't do that, would he? His voice was soft and his movements were gentle. Maybe it was a genuine question?
"I..I-I-I..." she stutterd, before pausing for a few moments to compose herself, "I-I don't know, S-...Faiz. I...I really don't know."
Was that a bad answer?

Faiz's look turned softly pained, but he closed his eyes and slowly nodded his head.
"It's okay to not know. I... I probably should have asked you earlier, rather than now, at a time like this. I just... couldn't help myself," her replied, pulling his paw from around her to run it over his mane in a slightly sheepish way. Her surprise and slight fright at this whole situation was a most sobering thing and though he was still pulled to her, he had a more mental control over his actions.
"I figured I should ask, in case you did and... but if not, that's... fine, I suppose. I would never force you," he added honestly. He was a very honest lion when it came to how he would treat his harem. He assured them he would never strike them or force them, which gave them some leeway to walk all over him. Perhaps that was one of his faults, one that could hurt him in the future. But it didn't matter at that moment. Tuluia was in a delicate position and he wanted his honesty to reassure her.

He looked...sad. Disappointed. He was apologising, but she stil felt like her answer had been a bad one. It had made him sad - she didn't want him to be sad! Of course he couldn't help himself - he was male, when it came down to it. It wasn't his fault, she told herself. He looked embarrassed now, but the only look she could remember was all of a sudden his disappointed expression.
Fine, I suppose - that was what he'd said. 'I suppose'. That meant he was really upset! And that he wanted cubs! Suddenly, Tuliua was torn. She whined inwardly, eyes darting around the den for a solution. She wanted to please him - make him happy. Faiz being happy made her happy. But...she didn't know. She didn't know if she wanted cubs. But then again, that didn't mean she didn't...
Swallowing a lump in her throat, Tuliua suddenly arched her neck upwards to nuzzle the underneath of Faiz's chin, nipping him fondly. "I...Maybe I d-do want them. I...I'm just scared. Shaken. I-I think I do, Faiz."

Faiz gave her an uncertain look at her words. He didn't want her to think, he wanted her to know, to be sure. It wasn't like she would be alone in raising them, she had him and Mzu and Faeqa and Naji. But he knew from seeing Almas carrying Aali that it could be... an uncomfortable experience.
"If you don't feel you're ready, don't. I don't want to push my parental urges onto you, 'Liua," he replied with a small, somewhat forced laugh. He really wanted to be a father, but he would not wish any of his females to become mothers against their will.
She nuzzled him and nipped him, but still he wasn't sure.
"Perhaps if you tell me why you're scared, we'll both feel a little bit better, hmm?" he suggested, lying down with a soft flop onto his side and patting the cave floor next to him, suggesting that she join him.

He looked uncertain at her answer - and with good reason. Tuliua was fairly certain that she didn't want to have cubs, but that wasn't what mattered. Maybe...maybe she'd get used to it. She'd have to, since she didn't want to neglect the cubs. She'd have to get help from somewhere but...but she'd manage. She had to, for Faiz. What she wanted didn't matter - what he wanted did.
"I do, I do! I was just confused, Faiz. I...I-I haven't done this before," she whispered meekly, cheeks flushing red. She hadn't done it before, so she was being somewhat truthful, at least. She continued with her nuzzles and nips, trying to convince him. He was male - he had to give in eventually. She began to purr again in the same, deeper tone, hoping to just get it all...over and done with. The quicker the better, maybe?
"Just it's...new. I haven't done it before. Pleeease, Faiz?" she mewled, inwardly praying it wouldn't hurt much.

Faiz's sighed and patted the ground next to him again.
"Come now, lie down, my little flower," he coaxed, giving her a reassuring smile. She still seemed uncertain and thought she attempted to assure him that she was just nervous, he wasn't really fooled. Tuliua was forever trying to please him and while he did like to be pleased, he liked to know that they were doing so because they wanted to as well, not just because whatever the task was made him happy.
If only she would join him, that way he could wrap his paw around her and reassure her in a more physical way that he had more control than other males. His wants were trivial in comparison to the responsibility she would possibly take on, and he wanted to comfort her then.

She slowly uncurled herself from the fetal position with a shy smile, crawling a little closer to Faiz, pausing as a flood of hormones suddenly hit her, growling softly in irritation. No...this was for Faiz. She carefully positioned herself in the spot he'd indicated with a slightly brighter smile, nuzzling him once again with another purr.
"I love you, Faiz."

"I love you, too, 'Liua," Faiz replied automatically as he wrapped a paw around her and held her close. He closed his eyes with a sigh and cuddled her.
"Besides the other males and I assume being uncomfortable," he began, rubbing his paw against her fur in a soothing motion, "How has your day been?"
He wanted her calm, unstressed, for what she had given him permission to do. And he would wait for however long it took to sooth his poor treasure.

His reply seemed a little automatic and rehearsed, but she ignored it, her purring becoming rather continuous and constant at his gentle movements. She liked this - the cuddling and the stroking. It made her feel special. She nuzzled him back, wriggling about a little so she could cuddle and stroke him back, determined that she had to make him happy too.
"It's been alright. I...I'd caught you a rabbit, but I dropped it whilst...sorry," she began, before cutting herself off with a shake of her head, smiling sweetly as she continued to nuzzle him.

Faiz smiled at her as he leaned his head towards her to give her a slow nuzzle. It may not be true for other males, but he was the type to really enjoy nuzzling and stroking his females during those specific days. It had been very awkward, but he had learned from his mother how comforting it was on the female's end to have a male who could put aside his urges to simply lie and comfort his banu. And as his harem grew, he found he truly enjoyed comforting them in such a way.
"Awww, now you'll have to tell me who they were. They scared my flower and made her drop her hard-earned kill. Those boys will need to be taught a lesson about other males' harems," he replied, though there was a soft, almost teasing edge to his voice as he licked and nuzzled her neck, his eyes closed as he mixed their scents together.
"Mmmm, Tuliua. You're so soft, without and within. How fortunate I am to have you in my harem," he mumbled into her fur, his mind drifting a bit.

She was starting to feel a little strange - she liked this. All the snuggling and nuzzling was something she enjoyed thoroughly, and her body liked it too. But did that mean it was going to happen soon? Panic rose in her mind but she fought it away, no hint of it in her expression. She had to make Faiz happy.
"I...I don't really remember them. It was a blur...the one who approached was young, though," she mumbled gently, purring loudly at his nuzzle. He really did love her, and she was grateful. There were many other males who weren't as gentle as Faiz. His next words seemed to trigger something, though, Liua giving a smile as she nuzzled his forehead, taking deep breaths to calm herself. 'Cause it was about to happen, wasn't it? He sounded sleepy, like he wasn't really thinking anymore.
Was that what happened? Or was she just boring?
