The sun was high, and its heat radiated throughout the forest. Sounds here and there of some unknown summer insects could be heard, but other than that the forest was quiet. It was as though the whole forest was resting, waiting for evening when the air would cool.

Aluana stood in the shade offered by a small group of broad leaf trees, hiding from the heat. The day was absolutely beautiful, but almost too hot to enjoy. Personally, she preferred the days of summer and fall, when the temperature was neither too hot nor too cold. Not that she didn't like the feel of the warm sun on her hide, she loved the feeling. But the beginning of summer was the worst, when she was not yet accustomed to the heat. And yesterday had been so cool, she thought to herself. There had been a slight rain the day before, and it had been lovely. "Not that sunny days aren't lovely," she said aloud to herself. "They are, but in a different way, I suppose."

Lowering her head, she nipped at some young grass growing at the base of the nearest tree. Delightful, she mused. So young and sweet! She was content, and fancied she would spend her whole afternoon in the cool shade of these magnificent trees, nibbling at the grass near their roots.

The day was warm perhaps a little too warm for Flik. Although his clothes was a good thing to have in winter it wasn't so practical in summer. Slowly walking towards the shadows of trees he hoped to get little rest before night falls and temperatures become more bearable. He still had a good distance to cross before he could reach his human friend who would help him take of unnecessary equipment.
So occupied with his thoughts he didn't notice he wasnt alone untill he came close to the mare.

'' Oh... ''

The fact he wasn't alone left his speechless for few moments. Usually he would be angry on himself for letting his guard down so easily but today the stranger he met was a beautiful mare and he saw nothing dangerous about her. So he smiled friendly while coming closer to take a cover form the summer sun.

'' Hello there. I hope I'm not disturbing you in anything. ''

She had been lost in the sound of the insects and her own chewing when she was startled her from her daydreams. She wasn't sure what roused her, but when her head shot up she saw a clothed stallion in the sun nearby.
She wasn't alarmed, she could tell right off the bat he seemed to be alone, and didn't look like any of those unsavory 'flesh-eating' beasts she had heard about. She flicked her ear.

"Certainly not," she replied replied to his question with a friendly tone. She decided that he probably didn't pose any real threat, and could even be friendly; and she let a lot weigh on first impressions. "I was simply enjoying the shade offered by the lovely trees, and snacking on the grass here." She lightly stepped back, to show she was willing to share the shade with him.

"My name is Aluana, nice to meet you," she dipped her head ever so slightly. Remembering her manners was something she tried to do. "Quite the summer day, isn't it?"

'' What a lovely name. I am Flik. Nice to meet you too. ''

Walking deeper into the shadows of the trees Flik enjoined light breeze as it cooled him down little. How nice he will have some company while he waited for night to fall. One thing that left a strong impression on Flik was Aluana's hair for it gave some enchanted look to her. Just like she came out of a faerie tale.

'' Yes it is. A perfect day for resting in shadows during the day and watching the sky during the night. ''

The breeze lightly ruffled Aluana’s mane and cape. It was refreshing, and so was the company, she decided. It had been a while since she had been able to talk with someone.
“I imagine,” she began, “that the evening will be lovely.” She looked up. “The sky will be clear, and the air will be cool.”
With a wistful sigh, she added, “ Summer nights can be quite nice, truthfully.”

She looked back at the stallion. He carried himself well, and seemed to have an air of confidence about him. And his clothing was certainly intriguing. She had never seen the likes of it before. In fact, in her home land, her cape would have been the most anyone wore.

“Might I ask, do you live in this land, or are you a traveler?”

'' There is no land I call home. Been traveling for a long time now. ''

Although there were times when he thought about land where he grew up he never felt need nor did he wish to go back there ever again. The world was wast filled with interesting places and individuals.
It seemed she wasn't from here either and Flik tried to imagine how her home land would look like. Must be enchanted like she is.

'' What about you? It seems to me you are not from around here either. ''

"You're right," she began with a chuckle, "I'm not from around here." Aluana had fond memories of her homeland, and her friends there. She smiled.

"My home is far from here, but it is similar to this land in many ways." She glanced around them, looking at the forest and the bright day.

"I came to this land once before, I liked it, so I came back." Her eyes settled back on the handsome stallion. "This land has many nice things in it. Many nice folks to talk with as well. I honestly think I will stay here, at least for a while." She smiled, and flicked her tail.

"So, tell me, my dear Flik, where might you be headed on this beautiful but rather hot day?"

'' I'm not long here but I'm starting to like it here. ''

In fact Flik decided to spend few days in this place. It seemed enough interesting and lovely Aluana could show him around. Who knows maybe he too decides to make this land his home for longer amount of time. It seemed that the land was rich and with Aluana around it would never get bored.
And anyway his friend wasn't actually expecting him arriving to his destination later than planned won't make any difference.

'' I'm on my way to visit my human friend. It is getting rather hot for my clothes and she is the only one who can help me get it of. Still first I have to get to mountains. ''

The summer has only begun and Flik knew it will only get hotter as time passes.

"Hmph," she snorted in agreement, "it does seem to be getting to warm for so much cloth on your back. Thankfully I don't have so much, so I needn't worry, but I can see why you might need some assistance." Certainly there was no way he could survive the summer heat of this land in so much cloth. Well, not with any sort of pleasantness. Though, she thought to herself, it might not be too bad to have such clothing in the winter.

"What part of the mountains are you headed for?" she asked. She liked the low lands, in the valleys and the forests--it was why she was here to begin with--and she had never been very close to the mountains near here. Sure, she knew her way around this area of the forest, but really, she had not gone exploring too much lately. She had been taking time out to enjoy the beautiful weather they had been enjoying recently. The traveler in her began to speak up, and it seemed it might be fun to follow this stallion for a short way...it had been a while since she had company.

"Though," she began with a swish of her tail, "it might be more pleasant to travel once the sun is not quite so high. I find that when the sun is high, resting and meandering are far more effective ways of spending time." As soon as the sentence was out of her mouth, a wave of shyness flooded over her. She had been thinking aloud, thinking about accompanying Flik, for a ways. She realized that her sentence sounded more like an invitation to stay than anything.
The thought of either one would have made her blush, if horses could do such things. But, at the same time, neither seemed like a bad idea.

'' I am heading to west part of north mountains. I still have a way to go but I am in no hurry. ''

More time Flik spent with mare less he was in hurry to get to his destination. After all this place looked too nice and not to explore it at least for a bit would be sin. After all time always passes more quickly in good company.

'' I agree with you about effective ways of spending time when warm days like this one come. ''

He smiled softly at mare. Yes he had enough time to stay here few days.

'' So tell me what do you do for fun around here? ''

"Fun?" she softly said, thinking to herself for a moment. "I am not sure if it qualifies as fun," she lightly tossed her mane, "but I find it rather enjoyable to wander down near the stream in the early afternoon. The air is cool, there is ample shade, and nice little greenery to snack on. Not to mention the music of the water~and the beauty of it," Aluana stopped and smiled at the stallion. "Forgive me, I was getting carried away."

"Honestly," she began, "I haven't seen any one else for a few days, and I am not entirely sure what others in the area might call fun. I suppose I should try to be around others more, but I just love the quiet of the forest."

A wave of curiosity washed over her.
"If I may be so bold, what do you do for fun where you are from? Perhaps it is possible to do the same here," she offered. He had strange clothes and was clearly from a strange land, but seemed to be a rather pleasant fellow, and truthfully, Aluana wanted to know more about him.

'' Chase after butterflies and small animals. ''

Flik smiled. He was well aware this actually was something only foals do but he was so long alone that he would still do these things when no one was around. He actually wasn't sure why he told her that. This was not the best behavior for a grown up individual.

'' Well these days it for me it would be traveling and discovering new interesting places actually. ''

By now he felt as if he knew Aluana all his life. It was strange feeling but it was as if he could tell her anything he wanted and never make her mad or thing he was strange or even insane.

Before he could say anything more to her his belly made a sad sound. Flik felt little uncomfortable and he looked at Aluana with apologizing face.

'' Ah... I do apologize for that. ''

He recalled that she was spoke of nice little place by the stream. Still he didn't want to be rude and ask Aluana to take him anywhere so he could eat. And it wouldn't be nice to eat in front of a lady if she wasn't hungry.

'' I don't suppose you are hungry by any chance? ''

His first response caught her a little off guard as it was certainly not what she was expecting to hear. A quick image of the stallion chasing after a pretty little butterfly flashed through her mind, causing her to smile. She wasn't quite ready to admit it, but she was still known to indulge in such activities when alone. Secretly, she hoped that he wasn't joking.

Traveling, however, was a far more proper of a pastime. She was about to let him know that she shared his interests in that matter when his belly made a bit of noise.

She smiled at the stallion's apology. "No need to apologize," she snorted. "It happens to everyone, I am sure. Ladies included."

"I had been working on a light snack myself before you wandered up," she continued in response to his question. "Though it is high time for a proper meal."
She was a little hungry herself, and it would be rude to let her new friend stay hungry. Not to mention, some part of her wanted to show him that little clearing, as it was her favorite, and she had not yet shown it to anyone. "If you like, we can head over to my favorite spot by the stream. As I said before, the greenery is just delicious!"
Another wave of shyness swept over her. Perhaps she was being far to forward? What if he didn't want to go? "Unless, of course, you wanted to stay here. The grass is sweet, here as well."

'' No, not at all. I would love to see the place you described to me. ''

Flik was hoping to see more of this place Aluana called home. And nice small walk before lunch is always good.
