This is another issue that has been raised. There was an article in the Advocate magazine asking is gay the new black. Because gays are going through a lot of segregation openly. This video explains it alot for me

Tell me what you think?

As for me. Although I do not support gay marriage. I do not agree that gays should have the advantages should come with marriage. I do believe they should adopt and believe they shouldn't be discriminated against.

When they have to use separate bathrooms and sit on the back of the bus, I'll say that they're the new black.

I'm in accordance with Pentium's comment to some extent: I think that the segregation and discrimination that black Americans went through and to some degree still go through cannot truly be compared with the current plight of the LGBT community. It's not the same thing, in my opinion. All minority groups in the US seem to experience some sort of discrimination, including women, LGBT people, and racial minorities. Saying that "gays" are the new "blacks" suggests that black Americans have moved to some level of acceptance where they are no longer discriminated against, and are seen as equal to white Americans, and that gay Americans have somehow been demoted into some "void" left by black Americans when they "moved up" in society.

I didn't watch the video, but in short I think the comparison is a foolish one to make.

OMFG this ticks me off so much. stare

GAY IS NOT THE NEW BLACK. THE TWO GROUPS ARE NOT THE SAME, NEVER HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES, AND NEVER WILL!!!!!

End of story. stare

Well I like Wanda Sykes and I watched her stand up last weekend I guess. She made a good point. You don't have to come out about being Black you just are. Whereas you have to come out about being gay and it's a lot harder for people to understand especially here in the Black community in which we have adopted white's mentality about homosexuality which I think it's so awful. Granted that the English-Americans especially have/had a very homo-erotic culture. Hell I will go so far to say America itself has a very homo-erotic culture. (WWE and all the p***s shaped buildings. Not to mention all the male ego stroking in all our historical documents and songs) I guess I'm going off topic there though

Anyway while the two groups have there differences I think it's foolish not too see the similarities. As Gays get lynched in hick town USA just as Black STILL get, they can't donate blood most of the time, they can get fired, ect. Sure maybe this country hasn't enslaved them (yet) but again the similarities are there.

So why I don't feel they are the "NEW" black. I do feel that they are yet another group that are getting their freedoms and rights pissed on. I'm sure if MLK and other civil right leaders were alive today they would fight for these people. Because remember an injustice to one is an injustice to all.

I mean really do we have to get into the whole D/L sub-subject? I'm so sure that most of us have gay people in our family that are in the closet and would probably like to come out about their sexuality. So let's not front around and act like it doesn't affect us as Black people.

i want to say thank you to Princess Z-M, because i am a black bisexual man that has been turned away, shunned, + seperated because of my sexual orientation. im not saying in any way that the lgbt (lesbian gay bisexual + transgender) community is the new "black" + has endured more hate + opression than the black commmunity. but the thing that a lot of people dont seem to realize is that we all have been hurted + treated unfairly. blacks, gays, jews, the eldery, native americans, the mental + physically retarded, asians, middle easterns, poor people... its just a small list of the many "groups" of people that live on this earth, but the thing we all have in common is that we have been looked upon, treated, + jugded unfairly by others.

why cant EVERYONE stop comparing + measuring how more abused we were than other cultures + sub-cultures + help build each other up + treat each other as their own family? is it really too much to ask? or is it a neccessary to scream to others "HEY! I'M THE GUY WHO ANCESTORS WERE KIDNAPPED, RACIALLY CLEANSED, ENSLAVED, LYNCHED, RIDICULED, DISCRIMINATED, DISADVANTAGED, + INJUSTICED! WHAT MAKES YOUR LITTLE SOCIAL ISSUES SO IMPORTANT!?!?"

like Princess M-Z said, "...an injustice to one is an injustice to all.". so please, take this not as from a black guy, or a gay dude, or even a man. im just a person that wish, + i know it sounds clique but it boils down to this honest-to-my-soul truth, that we all could get along.

i want to say thank you to Princess Z-M, because...

No because needed friend. You are most welcome. I dunno maybe its because I grew up in "flammin'" California or unlike many so-called Christians I actually understand the teachings of Jesus heck maybe it's the fact that I have taken the time to study, and interact with different folks with different strokes. I dunno. What I do know is that it doesn't matter who sleeps with who. A good person is a good person and people everywhere laugh, cry, and poop pretty much the same.
