Silarial spread her legs a little further apart, dipped her head, and quietly drank in the cool, clear water. Her mess of a mane drifted forward and touched the river, but she didn't bother to flick it back.

The wind direction suddenly favoured her, and she raised her head again, warily eyeing the opposite bank.

Someone, or something, was approaching.

This was certainly not his first trip to find water today and something told him it wouldn't be his last. Tuyet has been feeling one of those insatiable thirsts lately, one he could only blame on the ever stifling heat. Summer was far from his favorite season and he hoped it would pass with a quickness. There was a niceness in being warm, yes, but being overheated was a completely different story.

Pushing through the bushes, mostly unaware, he came upon the goal of his search. He knew the river's location, luckily. It hadn't been to hard to find. However, he had not been expecting to come across another Kirin. Strangely enough, his trips to take a drink had been offering their fair share of company lately. He couldn't help but feel pleased, despite the wary look the company across the way. Bowing his head slightly, he moved to the river to drink, remaining silent at first.

A lone male. Silarial wrinkled her nose when the snow stallion appeared, ready to leave before he could try his charms on her... but to her immense relief he simply gave a cordial, wordless greeting before taking a drink as well.

She drank just a little more, eyeing him the whole time. What was that thing draped around his neck? It didn't look like it was part of his body, so he must have picked it up from somewhere... also, why did he insist on wearing it on so hot a day?

Silarial gave the stranger a keen look, and, without straightening up again so she could take to his face, attempted some kind of conversation.

"The weather's terribly warm, isn't it?"

On another day, he might have seemed more intent to him company. This day, however, his eyes remained trained on the water rather well, watching it spread away from his maw as he lapped greedily. It wasn't until she spoke that he lifted his head from the conquest, looking the tiniest bit childish with a water-soaked muzzle.

"It is," he agreed quickly and wholeheartedly. "Pretty uncomfortable, actually." The remark brought a slight sneer to his lips. While he certainly appreciated nature and its diversity, he still had a nagging idea inside that life would be better if Winter were two seasons long rather than one. Summer was the time he most wished to return home. "But not a bad time for swimming, I suppose."

Poor soul, thought Silarial as she watched him inhale the water. The white stallion looked like he could drain the whole river if he wanted to.

"Well..." She said awkwardly, wondering if it was a sensitive subject. "Maybe if you took off that thing around your neck, you wouldn't be quite so hot?

Where did you get it from, anyway?
" It was a pretty thing, the colour of the sky in winter... she had never seen anything like it before.

"Thing?" he questioned, the word coming out slowly as he started to understand what she was talking about. It had become so much a part of him by now that he often forgot he was wearing it. "Oh, the scarf?" he chuckled a bit, peering down at the fabric as it laid across the ground. It was tightened at the front today and hanging more than usual, the end threatening to slide right into the water at any moment.

"I've had it for a long time, I often forget it's there," he admitted, rising to full stance and backing away just enough so the dangling tip couldn't brush the surface of the water. "But honestly, it's not that hot." That was one strange thing about the scarf. No, it wouldn't keep him from freezing during a blizzard, but it always kept him moderately comfortable back home. And, reversely, never really added to the heat he felt in the summer. Maybe it was a mental thing. The scarf usually only left his neck at the request of a foal interested in playing with it.

Canting his head, he considered her question for a moment. Some of it was a blur, forgotten with his age, but the general idea was still there. He didn't mind sharing. "I used to live solely in the mountains when I was younger," he told her to start. "I don't know if you've ever been there, but it's rather cold, even half way up." Shaking his head, he smiled. "When I was young, I first discovered my own wanderlust. If it was away from my parents, if it was interesting, even if it was very cold, I wanted to know what was there."

He stopped, sucking in a breath and dipping his head back to take another drink. It had been a long while since he had told such a story to anyone, though he didn't seem bothered. Others might be more guarded with their past, but Tuyet felt he had nothing really worth keeping. "My family always stopped at the midway point, but I wanted to go further, so I did. I was somewhere between there and the peek before I realized I couldn't breath well and it was frigid, even for someone used to it. I fell asleep." Passed out, more like it. "When I woke up, it was because my eyelids were burning. But when I opened my eyes, I was just covered with this. My parents found me later, luckily."

Eyes glanced to the right before back to his company, a now apologetic look on his face. "Sorry. I guess I really don't know where it came from." He couldn't quite remember how he knew what the thing was called, either.

Silarial listened the whole time without dipping her head to drink even once - partially because she felt it would be impolite to do so, and partially because she found his tale fascinating.

She wouldn't forget it anytime soon.

"I have never been to the mountains... I should hope to visit them someday, so I can truly understand the bitter cold you speak of." She smiled gently. "In a way, this scarf saved your life - and it's easy to see why you'd want to keep it with you always.

Don't apologise. Some things are perhaps not meant to be answered.
"

Silarial's gaze went beyond Tuyet, as the mare wondered why she was wandering and what she was looking for.

"I'm searching for answers I don't know the questions to, myself."

Expression shifting to its normal calm once more, he nodded, though gently. "The mountains are a beautiful place." Though perhaps he was simply biased. Yes, he probably was. "They may seem barren, but they have their own type of wonder. It's quite different than the forest." Tuyet was rather enjoying the slight respite and quiet conversation. It was nice to find someone on a similar.... emotion level, would you call it? He didn't feel so inclined to keep his old folkisms to himself as he did already some others.

When her gaze left him, raising beyond, he gave his own head a little turn. Noting nothing of great significance, he felt he understood what she was looking at--perhaps looking for--when she spoke next. "Don't give up on your search," he told her slowly, only then turning his head back, but looking down to the water instead.

"One day you'll find your questions or answers or both. Even if the answer is that the question was never meant to be known." She herself had said something similar, though he had flopped it for his own devices. Either way, he felt they would both be able to come to their own conclusions in due time.

"... We both seem to be very good at speaking enigmatically," commented Silarial with a laugh, after mulling over his last statement. She'd been travelling in solitude for days, and it was nice to have company - even though he was a lone stallion. After another long drink of the river, she licked her lips, considered him, and decided she'd hung around enough.

"I'm glad we ran into each other, but I think I should get going now... while the day is still bright.

May your scarf always be with you.
"

With that, she turned to head back the way she came, intending to rejoin her path and continue her journey.

((You can have Tuyet call after her to ask for her name, then I'll tag one last time... or you can just have him leave as well with his own goodbye. Whatever suits his character. :3 ))

He could do nothing but smile at the comment. It was true, he supposed, though little was wrong with it. Just chock up any uncertainties in the conversation to another one of those questions of life. Watching silently as she took her final drink, he felt himself growing thirsty again. Bowing to the river, he was just about to lap at the surface when she began her final farewell.

Not wanting to be rude, he pulled back from the water and gave a slight nod. It was a bit lonely already, even for one who was used to living life on his own. Perhaps now it was time to meet up with the herd again. "Thank you," he finally got out just as she turned to leave. However, a realization hit him before she could get too far.

"Oh, your name-?" He sounded a bit rushed, unwilling to let her go without knowing a name to put with the face of the company he had enjoyed. "I am Tuyet."

The mare paused just once, and looked back.

If only she'd met him before she found the dashing Cadeyrn. Her monarch-winged, one-time mate had left her with a bad impression of adult males in general, and it was unlikely she'd take on another companion anytime soon... but if she'd been in the mood for it, Tuyet wouldn't have made a bad mate at all.

It was really just too bad.

"My name is Silarial.

I won't forget you, Tuyet.
"

Flicking her mane back from her eyes, Silarial continued on her path. She hoped her son would treat mares as well as this stallion had treated her.
