I think this is a step up from Xanga and Myspace blogs, but once again I know I'll suffer from the one thing a writer probably hates most...knowing not many will read it. Sad thing is, I suffer from the lack of an audience or fan-base, but this first post will be brief because I don't really know what to fill this space I've just procured with. It seems fitting to fill with all my happenings now and again, but as of right now, I'm at a loss. I do hope to accuture this with many more interesting things but for now this what I call a "rough start..."
I have an idea though. I could very well give you a taste of what's to come by giving you regurgitated goods of yester-year. I don't know, samples do entice me to want to actually try the actual product, so why not give what little of an audience I may have attracted to something they can sink their teeth into.
This is an editorial I wrote for my school's newspaper a year and some change back; random I know but please enjoy:
Well it's about that time in the United States to vote for our new president, the person who is to lead us into a better tomorrow, and ultimately reflects the will of the people. As many Americans know it, our political system is one of two dominating political parties, the Democrats and Republicans. Citizen's of voting age are aware of this…or are they?
Right now our country is in a crisis, and it isn't the war, problems with the environment, or even those crazy murders that cut up their girlfriends and eat them; no this problem is much worse. When asked about who they would vote into office, to no surprise, the average teenager of voting age and a sweeping majority of college students will either drop a name that is highly publicized in the media or give an I don't know. Let it also be known, the average individual of contemporary society actually doesn't wish for a two party system.
In 1792, Alexander Hamilton founded the Federalist Party in response to George Washington's re-election. Be it the American people still found him well beyond competent as a leader but wanted to prepare themselves for the laws they created on American citizen's voting for their officials, the party was conceived to insure that a side of the political gradient is seen.
Now that we have had our history lesson, time for another fact that will astound you. The majority of people in the United States also have some political efficacy, or distrust in the government because you believe that no matter what you vote for, your voice will not be heard; moreover, many don't believe the system is in place to make things work in society, only full of people trying to line their wallets.
I introduce to you the Independent party. The party designed to allow for the best of both worlds, the conservative banking on cutting taxes, but doesn't mind keeping his mind on the domestic issues. Whether you knew it or not, the stereotypes for the parties are pretty extreme. The democrats are always portrayed as being quick to ask the government for a by-way out of our social issues, but are criticized because having the government take care of our problems would cost money equaling higher taxes; while the republicans are known for being the rich, elitists that would push to have taxes lowered for their party to ensure that big business thrives and the little guy is crushed under the weight of the rich. Republicans are criticized for being selfish, enough said. Yet both parties are they only parties that ever get spotlight in our media, as our media endorses things to be an extreme.
Think of it, reality television came about because people wanted to see individuals placed in extreme conditions and see their absurd extreme reactions. So if we are drawn by this extremity, yet have endeared many years of their fowl-ups, such as Bill Clinton's faux pas with Ms.Lewinsky, or George's little scrap with Iraq for weapons of mass destruction, oh wait, for stability in the Middle East…No, for OIL, of course not that would be unethical, but that is another article. But no one has heard of the moderates that would possibly take everything you love about the Democrats and Republicans and find a healthy middle ground. I'm not saying do away with the two party system, but I'm urging voters to know their options, and know them well because voting isn't as simple as choosing right or left.
Well any intellectual dialog is much appreciated, I'm looking forward to posting on this forum and on my blog spot: Roybot-Objects. Well, see you in the funnies.
