We came for profit;

Antarctica. Once a place no country could touch--international agreement prevented it from being mined. It has no average population. It has no population. Not any longer. The United States, Russia, and Australia all managed to forge a three-way monopoly on mining rights for the continent. Now all three countries have their own Primary Mining Station. Each is connected by a circular railroad-shuttle loop, called Alpha Shuttle. This is a counter-clockwise means of underground travel between the three stations. There's also non-continuous railways heading outward in a radial fashion, to reach more remote areas. Above-ground travel is limited to helicopter takeoff, and hiking has been virtually eliminated.

So we mined. The profits were astounding--the minerals were bountiful--but then... we disturbed something. Monsters.

we found living hell.

4. Godmodding is only allowed on NPC monsters.
5. This will be an action-survival cross-over. We want plenty of violence, possibly some tragic death, and to get out alive.

History: Creg works for the United States. Both Russia and the U.S. maintain a military presence in their mining facilities at all times--Australia is just too trusting, apparently. Creg is also a technical man and serves to install much of the security systems--electronic locks and cameras.

Weapon Training: None to speak of, but she does know which end of the gun the bullets come out of, if that helps.

History: Andromeda Honor and Dane Willmark arrived at EMPIRE Station a year ago as a couple, looking for an escape from their hometown. Against Dro's wishes, Dane took up mining, and something about the job has changed him. It's like he has become another person -- Happy, upbeat Dane had turned grim taken up smoking. Dro can barely stand to look at him -- Not that he comes home until after she's fast asleep anyways. The couple hasn't formally broken up yet, but the words don't need to be spoken to be true.

"Run!" shouted a man clad in dark gray. He wore black jeans, a black sweater, a gray jacket, and under the jacket, a chest harness complete with gun holster. From the empty gun holster, Creg Ledger had drawn his Glock handgun. He and a girl in white, with dark auburn hair pulled up by a hair clip and wearing glasses, were scrambling across an open office floor. Behind them, a thick blue ooze of liquid seeped from the seams of a door barred shut just moments prior.

The woman cried out as she stumbled. He paused, doubled back, and pulled her along by one arm. They did not have any time to stop.

"The Railroad," he panted, always moving, "it's our only chance."

A loud, screeching noise--the sound of protesting steel--occurred behind them. Without glancing back, Ledger fired blindly at the sound, still running in the opposite direction. The duo arrived at the opposite end of the room, where a staircase led below. They followed it.

Three floors below them, if they were quick enough to avoid their pursuers, would be found the Railroad station. This would lead the duo out of their substation, the Carson Station, and on toward the main U.S. mining facility. From there, they would have access to the Alpha Shuttle--provided they survived. The United States primary Mining Facility was heavily infected with the deadly monsters chasing them.

Would they be fast enough?

Dane ran.

It was not for his own sake.

He leapt up the stairs two at a time, grabbing the banister when he reached the top so he nearly bypassed the landing altogether. He glanced to his side; that had been the second floor. He wasn't going to make it.

He shook his head vigorously, desperately. No. There had to be a chance.

Dane skidded over another landing, halfway up to the third floor. Dro worked on the fifth. Was that right? Or was it fourth? She didn't tell him things like this anymore. She didn't tell him anything anymore.

He ran across another landing only to slam into a man clothed in gray. His shotgun was sent skidding across the floor and he cussed, scrambling to his feet. "Watch the hell where you're going!" he shouted, retrieving his weapon.

"Wrong way," Ledger mumbled loudly, shifting around Dane and starting down the stairs. "It's a dead end that way," he continued to shout, over his shoulders. The woman--she was limping, he noticed. Cursing under his breath, Ledger motioned for her to jump down--he was positioned to catch her, arms wide and waiting.

The sound of chairs and desks being overturned came from above. Ledger glanced up at the ceiling of the stairwell. Still holding--for now, he thought. But how long could that last?

Iraina flicked her safety on, then off again. She sighed, turning the volume on her radio up, then down. Another deep sigh and she put her gun back in it's holster. Nothing ever seemed to happen here, just hours upon hours of translating the tapped American communications that never said anything really interesting.

Suddenly, the radio went dead. She cursed and turned the volume up, but there was nothing to be heard. She picked up the radio and started adjusting cords on the back when the signal returned, screaming loud, ripping through the speakers, yelling Americans, the sound of rending metal and another sound- one not so easily placed. She dropped the thing on the table and covered her ears, still able to hear clearly the sound of people dying. In desperation, she ripped the plug from the wall, just to stop the noise. She pulled out both of her guns and checked the magazines to make sure that they were full, then stepped into the hall and started walking towards the Shuttle.

((I have a system. Right = Andromeda, left = Dane, center = both. And OH GOD I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THIS: ))

THIS IS CRAZY THIS IS CRAZY THIS IS CRAZY... Andromeda bit her lip to force back a scream as she hurtled down the banister, feeling her hands heat up with the friction. She was too terrified to shut her eyes; she couldn't tear them away from the...whatever it was that covered the stairs. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and this was the most desperate of all times.

Andromeda hit the post at the end of the banister painfully, wincing for precious seconds before scrambling over and around to the next one. That was the fourth floor; it was thickest here. Down the banister again, wince, switch, down. Third. Down, wince...

"Dro?"

Andromeda gave him an unreadable glance, hopping off the railing and onto sweet, clear ground. "I thought I told you not to call me that," she whispered.

"No time! We've got to move!" Dane shouted, grabbing her hand and sprinting down the stairs again as fast as he came. Andromeda would have argued in any other situation but this. The blue, viscous substance followed them, quicker than one would have thought possible. But at least he was running away now.

((Am I alright with that? >_>?))

((I don't see anything wrong with your posts?))

"Just get down, down, down to the Railroad," Ledger said loudly. "The chemical is coming...."

So now there were four of them, he thought. Four survivors in one entire substation? Well, he knew this: it hadn't originated here. By taking the Railroad, they might be careening straight toward their likely deaths.

He returned his gaze to the path in front of him. Let the others follow, he thought--if they fell behind, so be it.

Because gravity helped it along, the blue liquid was indeed fast. But when Ledger stepped out onto the lowest floor of the Station--where the Railroad was located--he knew they would make it. The train was there and waiting, just as he'd specified in the emergency call. Ledger paused for a breath, and turned to check and see who had managed to keep up. The auburn-haired woman was beside him, glancing around tensely.

"Do you know what this is!?" he asked urgently, taking hold of a shoulder and gripping it fiercely. She looked frightened. "You're a scientist, aren't you? Not a miner or a mechanic. You've got to know!"

The woman glanced over his shoulder and sniffed. "There isn't time..."

Ledger turned to see the blue liquid seeping from the closed elevator shaft. "Oh, s**t," he cursed softly. Then, he turned and hurried to the control panel for the Railroad. It would take them straight to Empire, the U.S. Mining Station. If they managed to survive that place, they could retreat to the Sydney Station. As far as Ledger knew, the blue substance was confined to Empire--for now.

"If you're coming, get over here!" Ledger shouted as loud as he could. "Once this thing leaves, it won't be coming back!"
