Who: Varun and Kinsey Finch; Prajna and David Nao
Where: A fair in the park
When: Evening

It made sense for there to be a fair in the park. After all, the spring weather was finally getting nice. People were just itching to get outside and spend time with family and friends. After the doldrums of winter, everyone needed that good dose of excitement! The colors and sounds were simply intoxicating, and what kind of parent told their child 'no' when a carnival was in town? It was great marketing on their part, really. Sucking fun-deprived youth with their parents' money.

What didn't make sense, however, was Varun's desire to attend.

And all this time, Kinsey thought her Raevan was showing anti-social tendencies. But she had been wrong to the tenth degree. He had been out with her in the early morning for Ford's run and while she was exercising the large German Shepard, her charge had been floating hither and fro, trying to find something that kept him entertained while Kinsey was busy. (Kinsey was secretly of the opinion he was looking for that Sa'ida girl he'd met once and was disappointed every time.) Of course, he'd stumbled upon all the crewman setting up booths and games and a few of those cheesy ride things.

She really should have expected it, the redhead demanding to know what was going on. Still, Varun wanting to go somewhere crowded? She practically had to bribe him every time she needed to go to the mall and didn't want to leave him home. (Though after that episode with Prajna, she often considered the merits of such.)

"Kiiiinsey. This way." A wave of a pale hand. Kinsey chuckled and trotted a few steps until she was side-by-side with the seasonal Frei. He was silent, but that wasn't completely uncommon for him, she'd come to find, and a concentrated frown was plastered on his face. "...what? Whatfor?" he asked, waving a hands towards the sea of colorful booths.

"Well, it's a fair, Varun. So a lot of people set up booths and try to sell stuff. Or they have games that you play to try and win prizes. It's just kind of a scam, but it's a lot of fun if-"

"Win?"

A nod. "Yes, win. You pay them the fee and then you get to play the- Hey! Varun!"

But the brightly colored Raevan had already tuned out, sea green eyes sweeping up and down the row they currently stood in the middle of. He had very little desire to come into contact with others, so perhaps if he could find a spot less crowded, he might be able to...ah, there was one. Smiling serenely, he grabbed Kinsey by the wrist and started to float towards a booth towards the end of the row.

"Come. Varun? Win now."

David let out a muffled curse as another pair of children bolted past him, squealing and giggling with glee, cheap carnival prizes in hand. How did he get here? He tried to recall what happened a merely hour or two before. Namini was coughing and shivering, curled up in a bundle of blankets when she sneaked into his room. There was something about being sick and promising Prajna a trip to the fair. David had refused but then she did it.

"God damn," David hissed as he mentally kicked himself for falling for the puppy-eye trick yet again. He really needed to find a way around that, whether it be with animals or his younger sister. As David continued to sulk and keep a watchful eye out for anyone who may recognize him, Prajna on the other hand seemed to be having a blast, though the Frei barely showed it. Its face was blank, as if the flame was zoning out, but in reality, Prajna was merely taking everything in as quickly as it could, making a sort of mental map of the entire fair ground. There was just..SO MUCH! Colors beyond its wildest dreams. Smells to tempt it so. Noises. Actually, the noises Prajna could do without.

Another crying child and Prajna and David cringed simultaneously.

Yes. This magical place could do without these noises...or children. One or the other. But despite the sounds, the place was actually so nice and crowded that Prajna hadn't minded coming with David. What its mind was more preoccupied with right now was...

"David," Prajna stated and the leading Nao turned to look at the redhead.

"What?"

"Show Prajna how. That. Show."

David's eyes followed Prajna's rising finger to one of the many shady-looking booths at the end. It was a ring throwing stand. It wasn't too hard of a game to explain so David nodded and motioned Prajna to follow him.

"You see, the purpose of the game is to..." and the man trailed off, unaware that Prajna's sparkling blue eyes were locked on something other than the prizes and colorful rings laying on the countertop. Varun.

Varun was entirely too focused at the task at hand to pay any heed to the screeching children or their yelling parents. He'd let Kinsey go somewhere along the way, watching the couple at the booth with the same interest a hunter takes in its prey. Whatever his guardian was trying to say was completely unnecessary and so was the way she tried to grab his hand and drag him away. That earned her a hiss and a flare of the fins; Varun still didn't spare her any attention.

It was a good thing, too. Not a moment after the giggling couple left the ring toss stand did a very familiar redhead approach with his man. His man, what was his name? It didn't matter. His man was talking on and on, but the seasonal Frei could see clearly that Prajna was not listening to his guardian. At least they could agree on that, Varun thought dryly, meeting the other Raevan's sparkling blue gaze. Teal eyes narrowed and a coy grin tugged at the leviathan's lips as he licked them thoughtfully. See? He knew there was a very good reason to come to this fair.

Floating forward, he brushed his long red hair back and offered Prajna his most perfect look. Completely poised, the smile had retreated to whatever depth it normally lurked in and Varun's face was the picture of calm disdain. He always looked like that, Kinsey would tell you, mildly annoyed with everything. Of course, the facade meant nothing. Varun was anything but annoyed with the current situation; meeting back up with Prajna was practically a wish come true.

He was going to win this time.

"Prajna," the Raevan purred. "Pleasure." Weren't new words fun? Varun nodded towards the game set up.

"Play? With Varun?"

"..But physics and strategy are probably over your head. Just try and get a ring on a bottle, understand? Prajna?" David finally turned his head to see his charge nowhere to his left or right. Immediately engulfed in panic, the asian's dark eyes shot from each face that passed him by. Why were there so many damned people tonight?! That's when an idea came to him. Turning his attention downwards, David soon found two floating bits of ribbon, within feet of each other. His eyes trailed upwards and bingo, there awaited his Raevan and...Oh god.

Prajna was wearing its usual mischievous smirk, though its eyes seemed to be sparkling a little more deviously. Cerulean orbs met teal ones and David wondered if this was going to be a repeat encounter. But then Varun motioned towards the booth and David couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. After what happened the first time, the thought of Varun attempting to try kill his charge was inevitable. But..

"Where's your guardian?" David asked, glancing around. He didn't want to admit that he didn't really remember the owner's face but he knew it was a girl. And outside of children and parents, it seemed there were gaggles of high school schoolgirls running about too. Prajna turned its sharp eyes towards the man and flipped its grin upside down.

"Prajna will play with Varun, yes. David. Say again. Say how to play again."

David rolled his eyes and then paid the shady looking man behind the booth a twenty before reaching over to the booth and picking up a bright pink ring. Pointing to the bottles, and making sure BOTH Raevans were paying attention, he began to explain, "Take this ring. THROW IT. -he pretended to toss the circle towards the bottles- And hope that it lands perfectly on one. If it does, you win a prize."

Prajna nodded in understanding before turning its catlike grin back at Varun. It picked up a ring and began twirling it on its index finger.

"Ready play, Varun?" the fire purred.

Oh, the last encounter had not escaped Varun's mind, not in the least. He'd worn the battle wound on his neck proudly for a little more than a week, Kinsey hadn't the heart to explain to him what the bruise actually was. He was determined, in fact, to repay the debt someday, but the leviathan was paitient. Revenge was a dish best served cold. There was an intense electricity between them. Varun could not begin to understand what it was, but for now, he would hold Prajna as his greatest rival. Smart, determined and tricky, there was very little he could fault the older redhead for, except for one thing.

Varun always won.

Sniffing a little, Varun gave David a dirty look. "Kinsey?" A careless shrug. "There." He pointed towards the crowd; his violet-haired guardian was trying to push her way through the hoards of children, having been left behind by her Raevan. She didn't look terribly concerned; she clearly hadn't seen Prajna yet.

"Throw ring. Perfectly. Win," Varun parroted, eyes shifting back to the fiery Frei. His gaze locked and he rumbled deep in his chest, enjoying his rival's purr. Orange wings flared out to the side, but they were not snapped out like when he was alarmed. The seasonal Raevan was, for lack of a better explanation, actually relaxing in the presence of Prajna. It was something familiar and known, and it was something he could handle.

"Prajna, first? Varun, after. Will do better than what Prajna."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:56 pm

David's eyes shifted behind the group as Varun carelessly threw out his owner's name, stopping his search on a seemingly familiar but confused face; Like him, it seemed Varun had temporarily abandoned her amongst the crowds of fair-goers. She didn't look terribly worried but then David wondered if she had recognized him or Prajna yet. Or maybe..maybe she had gained better control of her Raevan at least? His eyes shifted back to his own charge. Prajna..was so difficult.

"Win."

The word hung almost painfully in Prajna's ears, like the word "candy" to a five year old who saw no candy store within the next 5 feet. Victory was now a must; Its pride was now at stake! Prajna's lips uncurled slowly as it stopped the ring spinning on its finger and eyed the bottles strategically. What was David saying before? Something about "aim" and "gentle"... There. Prajna's icy eyes found its victim quickly but before tossing the pink ringlet in its fingers, turned to Varun, a smug expression worn, "Prajna will win first. Varun will win..never."

It laughed and threw the ring.

Miss.

Prajna's right eye twitched.

Varun laughed when Prajna's ring missed. It was a delightful sound, deep and rich and full of mirth, despite the challenge between the pair of Raevans, the leviathan remained anything but hostile. "That was win? Silly Prajna." Chuckling again, he shook his head and floated up to the booth, reaching out to take a ring when the wide-eyed carnie stopped him. Varun glared, bright yellow wings flaring out to the side as he attempted to stare the older man down. "Kinsey come. My Kinsey," he felt the need to emphasize, in case anyone was wondering.

He held his hand out for the ring, green eyes flashing dangerously as he started to bare his fangs, not impressed with the older man's silly attempt at courage. He was practically shaking, for goodness sake, and all Varun was doing was a simple, dominant display. Clearly, the redhead thought, he was quite good at it, but it wasn't getting him what he wanted. With an audible growl, he drifted closer, learning forward to grab the insolent merchant when someone cuffed him over the back of the head.

"Varun Finch!" an all too familiar voice scolded. "What did I tell you about paying for things before you take them." Kinsey sighed and gave the Frei a dirty look, fishing out her wallet before handing the carnie the fee, and then some. No doubt Varun would play until he won.

Varun let his smoldering gaze linger on Kinsey for a moment, reaching back to straighten his hair before lifting the colorful ring from the bench. Once the man had stepped out of the way, he tested the weight of the ring before selecting a bottle, right in the middle. He gave the ring a gentle toss, watching quietly as it whizzed through the air, hitting the bottle neck and bouncing off. The young Raevan frowned inquisitively. "Noted," he said to no one in particular. He shifted and eyed his companion. "Better than Prajna," he noted sweetly.

Kinsey's eyes widened when she heard the name. Looking up, the young woman visibly paled a few shades. "Prajna! David. Fancy meeting you here..."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 25, 2009 12:50 pm

" 'Fancy'," David caught the word heavily in his throat as he took notice of Prajna's crow-like wings, pounding a little harder after Varun's near-win, though its facial expression remained mocking. His fingers twitched; This time, if his charge got out of hand, he'd make sure to do SOMETHING. But ..now that Varun's owner had made herself present, the Asian would somehow have to juggle both courtesy and parental obligations. David sighed and then broke out into a lovely smile, turning to face Kinsey, "Have you been here long? Prajna and I just got her a few minutes ago."

Prajna shot Varun a disgusted look, wrinkling its nose as well, as if the Levianthan Frei was some kind of ancient woman smelling of overdone floral perfume. It grabbed another ring, a neon green one, and scanned the horizon of shady looking bottle necks.

""Noted"? No noteds, especially not for "Better than Prajna"'s. Pfft. Varun will still lose after all is done" Prajna pouted, before tossing its ring. The ring hit the rim of a nearby bottle but then slid, very slowly, between two bottles and laid itself there, as if to mock the inverted flame. Why was this game so hard to win!? Varun should have lost a long time ago!

Prajna shot Varun a dark look before sticking its tongue out at him.

"Oh, you know. Long enough," Kinsey sighed, casting nervous glances at the pair of redheads. Varun seemed to be behaving himself, sort of. He wasn't doing anything bad (yet), so the officer really didn't see any harm in letting him play a game as long as things didn't get out of hand. She certainly wouldn't let it escalate like last time; that was horrible! (Unwanted Visuals.)

The Raevan in question, however, did not pick up on either guardian's tension; his attention was spent entirely on Prajna. Even if it was probably exactly what the fiery Frei wanted, Varun couldn't really help himself; Prajna was very hard to ignore. Not that he wanted to. This was fun, even if his acquaintance (friend?) was making him work much harder than he was used to. And that tongue. Much more distracting than the disgusted face; Varun very clearly remembered what Prajna did with that tongue the last time they met.

He was not going to lose again!

"We see," Varun said stiffly, some of his oozing confidence oozing away as he realized just how close the other redhead had come to winning. So quickly! He must put up a good fight and prove to Prajna he was a worthy opponent! Picking up a bright orange ring, the seasonal Frei surveyed the bottlescape for a few moments of silence before letting it fly. It hit an edge, bounced and yes, yes, yes, NO!

He couldn't help the brief look of absolute disappointment before he composed himself and glanced at Prajna. "Varun? Still better," he commented, sea green eyes waiting Prajna's reaction.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:24 pm

"Mmm."

David's reply was half-hearted and thoughtless but he knew that both of the guardians were on edge and that his lack of conversation would be forgiven, or at least he hoped; This girl didn't look stupid, she knew what needed to be top priority. David released a small parental sigh, one that explained a long weary day, as Prajna and Varun continued their competition of pride.

Prajna pounded its wings hard, just once, an involuntary reaction of anxiety as it exhaled slowly, watching Varun's ring fall in defeat. So close..too close, the flame admitted. This game was so incredibly hard. So incredibly infuriating. It shot its cool gaze at Varun's wavering expression before smirking to itself. Maybe this game would beat them both? Everything was so much more fun with Varun around.

" Still better, but not best. Prajna will best Varun," the more human-like redhead announced calmly. An idea slithered into Prajna's mind at that moment. With the notion that maybe this game WAS impossible to beat, Prajna had somehow calmed with understanding. This wave of tranquility seemed interesting to the Frei itself and so an idea was inspired. Closing its sky blue eyes, Prajna felt around the countertop for another ring and then just flicked its wrist carelessly towards the bottle necks. If trying too hard was not getting them anywhere, what if one just..didn't try?

There was an odd whoosh-whoosh-clink! sound and Prajna peered one eye open to see that a light blue ring had indeed found its home against an accepting bottle neck. The Frei immediately beamed and the shady looking man approached it with praise...and a cheap looking stuffed animal. Prajna received the prize wholeheartedly but once the man turned around, prodded the critter's poorly made features. The flame did not care for this stupid thing; It had just wanted to win. Prajna turned to Varun, a soft but smug look on its face now, "See Varun? Prajna, best. Always."

That's when another out of place idea struck it.

Holding the stuffed animal out to the other redhead and putting on its warmest smile, Prajna purred, " Here. For you."

Varun beat his wings once, hesitating when Prajna offered the stuffed animal. The leviathan was still shocked the other Frei had actually won the stupid game. He was supposed to win! Forehead creasing, Varun looked from the animal to Prajna to the animal again. A low growl deep in his throat, he cast a glance at Kinsey, headfins slowly extending all the way out as he eyed his guardian. His seagreen eyes held her gaze steadily, wings quivering gently as the bright orange scales darkened ever so slightly.

"...oh s**t," Kinsey whispered softly, running a hand through her hair nervously as Varun trapped her with silent question. Shifting her weight back and forth, she rapidly raked through thoughts, clawing around for anything to tell her charge. She needed to waylay his temper, she could almost see the insult radiating off they young Frei. He was angry. He was confused. It was a very dangerous mixture, of this she was sure. At a loss, Kinsey just nodded to the leviathan. "Go on, Vars. Take it."

The seasonal Raevan twitched subtly, licking his lips and flexing his fingers as he slowly turned his gaze back to the flame. Reaching forward with forced movement, he slowly removed the stuffed toy from Prajna's hands. "...why?" he demanded quietly. He did not understand. He did not understand! Green eyes were dark as the Frei scowled, fingers tightening around the toy as he drifted closer to Prajna. "Is Prajna's. Prajna's victory. Not Varun's."

He held his head up and jerked his chin out. He was not to be pitied, if that's what the flame was intending. "Can do," he insisted, putting the toy down gently to pick up a ring and hurl at the bottles.

Crash!

Kinsey's eyes widened and she jumped forward, grabbing Varun's hand to pull the Raevan away from the both. "Why don't we go play something else, hmm? Let's go play something more fun. Whaddya say, Prajna?"
PostPosted: Sat Oct 17, 2009 2:41 pm

Prajna's eyes followed the Levianthan's agitated movements, curious. Why was Varun so obviously angry? Prajna looked down at the bright yellow elephant and pouted. So, yes, it wasn't the cutest stuffed animal in the world but a gift was still a gift, was it not? That's what Namini said. That's what the television said. Why was Varun being difficult? Slowly filling with its own irritation, Prajna pounded its wings in time with Varun's angry flaps. Just take the gift and feel a little better for losing, you stupid redhead you! Prajna's mind hissed. That's when Prajna was faced with a darker looking Varun, one that leaned into its face suspiciously..as if he had just heard the thought aloud.

"...why?" he had growled and Prajna kept a brave face. Why? WHY? And then he began to explain himself..Prajna could only nod dumbly, though in understanding as well. What should it sa-- Crash!

So absorbed in the fiery green that was Varun's eyes, so deep in its own confusion, Prajna was unaware of Varun's move towards the booth until the crash broke through. Even Prajna knew this competition had gone too far, confirming this as David winced sharply at the sound. David heard Kinsey's lead and agreed, taking Prajna's own wrist, "Yeah yeah. C'mon Prajna. Let's go somewhere.. ...safer."

Prajna, again, nodded dumbly before taking a final glance over the broken bottles. Varun was..strong. The flame's icy blue eyes flickered to Varun's swaying back. He was strong...He was proud..Prajna allowed a smile grin to crawl onto its features as it followed the odd group off to the rest of the carnival, squeezing the elephant to its chest. How odd, this fluttering feeling in its chest..

Kinsey dragged Varun in silence, hauling him all the way across. No more games. He was far too competitive to be playing in a public setting; there were FAR too many innocent casualties to be had! But Varun got fed up far too quickly and wrenched his pale hand away from his guardian, glowering at her. The snarl was almost invisible, but Kinsey noticed it, and the Leviathan's point was made very, very clear. Do not man-handle him. Do not.

And that being said, wings and fins relaxed, falling back to his side and his head gently. The redhead blinked once, twice, and all the tension vanished, as though evaporated into the excitement exuding from the other carnival patrons. Varun turned and glanced around for Prajna; it wouldn't do to lose his...well, what did he categorize Prajna as, anyways?

Momentarily stumped, the Frei twitched and flicked his wings, inhaling sharply before finally confronting Prajna. "Winner. For now," he said cautiously, watching the other redhead for any signs of aggression. It was a wall he was letting down, carefully, very carefully, but the seasonal Frei refused to let himself get dominated completely. Kinsey had said, however, there is strength in exposing vulnerability and Varun, being the curious sort, would test any theory once.

"Do what now, Prajna? Me and you, do what now?" Placing the ball in the older Raevan's court, missed the small gasp that came from Kinsey.

Something had happened, this much was very obvious to her. Varun always referred to everyone in the third person, with one exception, the beautiful Frei he'd danced in the pond with. Kinsey still hadn't concluded what the alteration in his speech pattern meant...but it meant something. Holding her breath, the young woman decided to wait to see how Prajna responded.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:30 am

Prajna's smile widened as Varun officially announced it the winner. It possessed a very nice ring to it, that title, but yes, a new dilemma was clear now: What now? The inverted flame pried its slender wrist from David's hand a bit roughly before quickly scanning the fairgrounds. David followed its eyes carefully, trying his hardest to think of a way to avoid more trouble. If Prajna picked another game, they'd have to..do something to keep the Freis away from another competition. David didn't have cash laying around just to use on damages Prajna loved to create with its temper. Where the two Nao's eyes stopped on brought with it a wave of confusion to David's features. You had to be kidding..

"That. Varun and Prajna can go there," Prajna announced, gesturing to what looked like a ride. There, over the crowds of children and worrisome parents, looked to be some kind of machine. A contraption consisting of spinning, spinning, spiiinnnnning teacups. For some reason, the colorful blurs these giant cup-seats made made the fluttering feeling in Prajna's chest beat harder. They looked like fun.

"Yes. Varun, come."

And with that, Prajna took one of Varun's free wrists and led them through the crowds, at a speed David would not prefer.

"Prajna! Hey. WAIT." the man called, hissing. Teacups?! David could feel his manliness draining away. Why had he agreed to babysitting again?

"W-what the hell!? Where are they going?" Kinsey yelped, mouth falling agape as the pair of Raevans disappeared in the crowd. How impossible was it to lose two-floating torsos!? Slapping a hand to her face, the young woman gave an exasperated sigh. She was getting quite sick of her Raevan's general nonchalance when it came to rules, regulations, or even moreso, respect. "Gods, we better go get them before they break anything else," she muttered, though whether to herself or David was unclear. She started forward, grabbing the man's hand without a second thought, and began to pull him in the direction she had thought she'd seen their Raevans go.

Varun had hissed quietly when the older Frei started to drag him through the crowds, eyes ablaze and wings flared, but the moment he caught sight of Prajna's destination, all protests died willing. At least, until he heard his guardian muttering under her breath as the small woman tried to pick her way through the bustling crowds of the fair. Quirking his eyebrows, the Leviathan quickly dove to the side, dragging Prajna into the dark corner along with him.

Clapping a hand over the flame's mouth to ensure their secrecy, the seasonal Frei waited in silence as he watched Kinsey march right by. Grinning, he let Prajna go and gave a nod. "Kinsey? Ruin fun? I think not," Varun crooned, practically oozing congratulations for himself. Let Kinsey have her own fun with Prajna's man. Heh. Indeed!

Rather proud of himself, Varun twisted his arm a little, trying to get a grip on his...whatever Prajna was. He ended up holding hands with the flame, but, having witnessed a complete lack of human courtship on Kinsey's part, did not find this to be anything special. It was simply a way to allow Prajna some power while retaining some for himself. Flicking his wings, he nodded to Prajna again, and put them back on course of the spinning teacups. He had no idea what they did, after all, and once again, it would be up to Prajna.
