User Image Abiron blinked slowly, the wind whipping his multiple adornments against his neck. The leaves wrapped around his legs were threatening to come undone, the gems and such in his antlers getting even more tangled. It was stormy out; thick, black clouds blanketed the sky, making everything on the ground seem darker and more sinister. The trees off in the distance were nearly on their sides, it was so windy.

Abiron relished the weather. Being a Shaman, he was closely connected to nature and everything that had not been made by the humans. He closed his eyes, breathing in deeply through his nose, savoring every moment. It wasn't often a storm like this struck the area.

Thunder boomed overhead, at exactly the same moment that a streak of lightning broke the sky. It was all so beautiful in its chaos. The electricity in the air was... astounding. And the lack of any other living creature in the area was calming. He loved days like this.

Hafwyn shivered near her lake, taking cover in a little pool that was secluded with the arching roots of a willow. It was like a watery nest that she liked to hide in most days when it was hot and she wanted to be with the water, or when she needed to be calmed or safe, like now. The wind was positively brutal. Most of her beloved trees had already had some of their lovely branches snapped off or were bent almost to breaking point from the wind. It made her sad that her trees were suffering around her little self-claimed lake, and she backed up farther into her little hole, closer to the dry part as he tails lashed nervously, causing soundless splashes in the water around her hooves and ankles while she backed out into the tiny cave created by nature's willow tree roots. She didn't particularly hate the wind though. She knew people who she was sure would love it. Maybe not Swellow, but there were others, she was sure. As long as it didn't truly harm her steadfast willow she'd be alright. It was her happy place, this little cave under the roots, and she didn't want it mauled past recognition. Where else would she live and sleep?

But as she stayed in her little cave, she peered out through a hole in the roots, big enough for her face to pop out. Immediately, the wind blew off her dog-eared hat and she yelped in suprise. Pulling her head back in, she walked out of her little cave, having to wade through choppy water up to her tummy, and shook off as best as she could while the wind whipped her hair all around, threatening to take it out of its ponytail. She couldn't loose her pretty hat! It was one of the things that defined her as 'her'. It was a personality trait almost. Otherwise she'd just be a regular old golden horse. As she trotted after the hat, her coat shined and glistened with the remaining water, and she was like a shining beacon of light in the new daytime darkness that the storm had brought.

Leaping as her hat was carried upwards, she tried to catch it in her teeth, but missed, and the hat subsequently was caught by a higher branch in a tree. One she couldn't reach, even if she stood on her hind legs and leaned her forelegs on the tree trunk. She was just too short as a mare to do it. She tried anyways, and failed subsequently. As she was prone to do, her distressed mood changed drastically in a few seconds to one of severe annoyance and indignation. She huffed and shook her head, her hair and tails lashing, and stomped her feet a few times, moving back and forth and looking up at the hat with narrowed eyes.

"Get down here you silly little thing! You're supposed to stay with ME, not in some tree that thinks it's playing games with me by catching you where you're too high!" as she finished her huffing at the inatimate objects, another crack of lightning dazzled the sky, making the colors of the world turn to the most brilliant and severe shades the mare had ever seen in all her years. It was beautiful in a way, and she stopped long enough from her bad mood with her hat and concerns of settling down before the storm, that she just stood looking at the sky in awe. All those rolling clouds, and dark spaces that could hold the most beautiful things. She decided she liked storms, if only for the lightning. The thunder made her jump a little, but she liked the lightning that preceeded it. Circling around as she looked skyward, in the back of her mind she knew she must look silly just circling randomly and looking at the lightning and clouds. But she didn't really care.

Then she heard a soft jangling of beads and glass and other such various things, and a leafy rustling that wasn't coming from the trees she knew so well around her lake. Stopping her circling, she looked over to a stallion that was dressed in a severely interesting and strange way. He was completely foreign to her, and not someone she'd had come into her little territory before. He looked odd, but that just spiked her interest. She was a curious being, she was. The idea didn't even strike her that he was taller as a stallion and could probably get her hat which was still tantilizingly waving at her from the tree as if saying 'hey you, pay attention to me instead you silly nutter'. She was too curious for the hat at the moment, but she had to shake her head a few times as her pink ponytail whipped into her face with the wind.

"Helloooooooo? Do you need somewhere to stay when the storm really hits?" she called, having to raise her voice over the harsh wind. Well. Best way to get to know more about this strange stallion was to invite him into her special hiding place. It was big enough for at least four full-grown adults to fit comfortably and still have space to move, if you counted the partially wet part. Three if you didn't. So two of them wouldn't be that bad, hm? Besides, he DID need somewhere to go she supposed when it got REALLY bad and partially dangerous in the storm. The pretty part was right before the rain started and the wind and clouds and lighting were going on unblemished.

Abiron kept his eyes focused on the sky, breathing in deeply and desperately trying to remember every moment. To him, there was nothing more beautiful than a storm near a lake, even on the brightest and sunniest of days.

Suddenly, he felt disturbed from his trance; he heard a voice not too far off in the distance over the roaring of the storm. He hadn't realized it until that point, but the storm was getting absolutely violent; the wind whipped and stung at him now, and he felt as though he was leaning sideways to stay upright. Now would be a good time to study the storm from a safe place.

Which is exactly what he was offered, if he heard correctly.

Ducking his head low, he galloped over to the female, trusting her immediately, though he was aware of the danger of such a quick trust. But she didn't put off any ill-will sort of vibe, and she seemed just as worried as he did, so he would just have to deal with his issues with her when they arose.

He was about to say something until he saw something pink fluttering high in the trees. It looked like... a hat? Abiron looked from the mare to the hat, piecing the puzzle together, and said over a boom of thunder, "I'll get it down, then you show me where we can go to hide from the storm!"

He began climbing up the tree with his front hooves, keeping his back hooves firmly planted on the ground as he tried to reach the hat with his teeth. However, it was just a few inches short. He thought for a moment before angling his head in such a way that his antlers could reach the hat, snagging it on both of them to keep it snug and in place before pushing himself back to the ground.

"I'll give you your hat when we get someplace safe!" he said.

Hafwyn had actually forgotten about her beloved hat until the stallion had gotten it for her. She looked at it covetiously up in his antlers and whinied with a nod. Looking around to make sure no one else was watching where her little mini-sanctuary was, she trotted carefully over to the water's edge, by the bent willow with its hidden gnarled roots behind the curtain of its wispy leaves. She really did love this willow. She would call it a romantic getaway if it wasn't her day to day home. After dissappearing into the veil of leaves that created a little cove on its own, she poked her head out of them and they draped themselves around her face and neck.

"This way." she managed, over the wind, making sure the strange male was following her. She didn't know why, but she felt at ease with him. He didn't mean her any harm she was sure, and besides....he'd gotten her hat. Anyone willing to get her hat for her was a gentleman in his own right. Not to mention those crafty antlers of his were pretty spiffy, and extremely useful for reaching high up things. She had to hand it to him, he was an interesting character. Making a small whinny so he could hear her and follow, she walked down the curve of the trunk and around to where the opening in the roots was. Knowing she'd have to get into the choppy, almost cold water again, she shivered and grit her teeth.

The water lapped up on her and almost hurt this time, it was getting so choppy. But then, she was a sensitive mare in the first place. Stopping to look back and check on his progress, she nodded and then walked all the way into the rooted sanctuary. It was still warm underground like this, and the roots mingled with earth and fallen leaves to make a little cove for them to sit in. With a sigh she went to her corner that had a fairly large bed of leaves and willow branches molded into a sort of nest/bed type thing, and she flopped into it happily, her tails curling around her as she nested down into her bed. Looking to a little globe she'd found near a village once, she blew gently on it and these strange little fireflies woke up and started glowing softly to make some light in the globe. There. Now the little sanctuary felt more welcoming.

Laying her head down on the edge of her suprisingly soft bed nest, she sighed once more and let her hair spill over the edge. Looking to the stallion she just sized him up a little before speaking. It was so much quieter in here, even though you could still hear the wind and the water and the sound of the trees.

"I'm Hafwyn......and apparently you'll be staying here tonight with me. It'll get too choppy out on the water to get back out and you'll have to wait for it to settle.....um.....may I have my hat back please?" she questioned softly, her voice as gentle and airy as usual. She smiled at him from her lazy position, hoping she wasn't making too bad of an impression on him.
