I've only just noticed that there isn't a Horus Heresy thread, well, not that I can see.
Here is to discuss the Heresy in general and everything about it.

Who else finds it funny that the current Imperium is based on what the Emperor went against directly, and had a go at Lorgar for making the thing which the Imperium now worships?

It's a story of hubris and how the mighty can fall.

I loved how Horus was appaled when transferred in time to 40k timeline and saw some Imperial shrine world... and then set in motion plans that would led inevitably to its creation.
If Emperor ever wakes up/reincarnates he would look like:
"We had best intentions, but it turned out as usual..."

I can die happy as soon as everybody accepts the Horus Heresy novels and Collected Visions as official canon put out by GW and BL. All the answers are found there. stressed

I'm pretty sure the intent of this thread was to -discuss- said canon.

All BL books are canon, no?
And yes, it is DE.

Big problem is each author has his own version of 40k, just look guardsmen in a Abnett novel and one by Goto. From what I've heard the Horus Heresy novels have been written in a pretty consistent manner, they all follow the same guidelines.

Big statement here but if anything, the HH novels are 100% canon no matter what other people might say.

But all BL books are canon to some extent.
Yea, the Heresy books are 100% Canon, since there isn't exactly 'other' versions of the whole thing in general, if you know what I mean.

I still need to finish reading that series. I can't remember what book I got to, it's somewhere in my room... I think I have to read Fulgrim and onwards. sweatdrop Thank god for summer coming up

I wouldn't consider all novels and publications canon. The horrible Dawn of War books written by C.S. Goto come to mind as a prime example. And NO, I am not asking for stupid quotes of what his crimes are. Another example is the Inquisition Wars trilogy by Ian Watson, a good read but horribly outdated.

However, the Hores Herey novels are the final answer to all pointless speculation out there about the most trivial of things in my opinion. So please, ignore the fan-fiction found on that famous warhammer wiki and instead read those books. It's a good series with only one rotten apple really (Battle for the Abyss, a real snore fest) that really goes through some length to tell the story of 30k. If in doubt, just read the very first book of the series penned by Dan Abnett: Horus Rising.

I found Battle of the Abyss quite good actually, although its one of the worse HH books.
I've only read the first Dawn of war and Dawn of War 2, but I preferred the second one over the first.
I haven't read the Inquisition Wars, but I hear its good, I might buy it.
But this is for the Horus Heresy, not BL.
So, what battle would you lot reckon to be the most interesting, in the known HH books.

What she said most likely, though the books are only just beginning to touch on the massive scale of the war. I found the war on Mars from Mechanicum rather nightmare inducing though I have a feeling it will eclipse with the twin novels detailing the Fall of Prospero and the two proposed novels detailing the siege on Terra.

There are plans for a post-Heresy series of books with a certain Luna Wolf starring in them.

Does any one have any idea what happens to the Emperors Children Dreadnought, that Ancient Rylanor I think it is?
He just sort of goes underground when Horus bombs the planet.
And I said the known HH books, not to-be-made books. mrgreen

I think he blew himself up before the bombs fell because his armour was cracked and open.

As for the current line of novels, it's hard to say. Not much yet. I'd have to go with the civil war on Mars then.
