A lazy smile flitted across the stallion's handsome features as birdsong broke the silence of the early Summer's morning. He lay there a few moments, basking in the glorious sunbeam that had trickled down just so to land directly in his sleeping haven. Heaving a little sigh, he rolled to his hooves, lacking the effortless grace of his youth and yet still managing to move with some semblance of dignity.
He wasn't old. He was just... ever so slightly passed his prime. Inching around the proverbial bend. Diluted, but not entirely washed out.
Shishio's face broke into a charming grin. Now, Ale? She hadn't changed a bit. She was still as beautiful, as charming, as breath-taking and enchanting, as the day they had first met.
He frowned, stretching lazily as he made his way down to the riverbed. Why was he thinking about such things now?...
A flicker of recognition.
Ah, yes. He'd dreamed about that very first night, that night when two lives had been forever intertwined, last night.
"Ale? Are you awake?" He murmured gently, pitching his voice low enough that it would not carry the distance.
Perhaps it was the sun, the smiles, the dream... he had a feeling that this would be a good day. A very good day. Konu frowned gently, his thoughts lingering on his lifemate. How was she? Was she lonely? Did she regret not coming on this little voyage? Was Ode tending her properly? Did the little imp treat her mother with the respect she deserved? Why hadn't....
With one great shake of his noble head, he banished such thoughts. Why dwell on what he could not change, at least within reason, when he was going to see his parents? After so long... so long...
Would they even be in the same place?
His pace quickened, hooves moving in a blur as he transitioned smoothly into a desperate canter. Mother... Father.... I'm home!

"Father... Father!" Sonata's tinkling laughter rang out in the forest glade. She sighed and shook her head, rolling her eyes with dismayed pleasure as the stallion in question broke into a dead canter.
He'd been like this for a while. All he could think about was going home. It seemed like every step he drew away from Mother, he reverted more and more back to the little colt of old. She supposed that his own growing family had sparked the desire to see his parents. After all... she and Ode were grown, and Sonnet.... well, she had secrets of her own.
With a mischievous smile, the jubilant mare galloped after the retreating figure of her apprehensive father. It would be good to see Grandmama and Grandpapa- she couldn't imagine what they would be like!
"Father, do you even remember where you are going?" She called, knowing that her cries fell on deaf ears.
As long as he didn't lead her off a cliff, she'd be content.

Kazan peered at the surrounding area, crimson eyes narrowed in suspicion. Two trees, standing tall and strong, one enough like the other to be mistaken for its twin. Weeping willows, private resting areas within their sacred boughs, offering sweet retreat from daily perils. A babbling brook, crystal clear water rushing over rocky shores.
It sounded about right.
He turned and made his way back to Sadiki's sleeping form. They had made slow progress, keeping a steady pace that would neither wear her out nor cause harm to the life cradled within her womb.
She was so fragile... so very fragile, even for all her strengths. Long months had passed since her first tentative steps off that miserable beach, lost in despair. Many moons since the first genuine smile had graced her dainty maw. A year in two-legged's terms, perhaps more, since he had found his way back to her.
He nuzzled her gently, hope flickering in those blood-red eyes. The pregnancy had hit her hard, fast... her belly had swollen, her joints had become sore and tender. The careful strength that had worked back into her flaccid muscles was barely enough to support her growing weight. And yet... she was so happy. So very, very happy.
"Sweetheart...?" His voice was a gentle murmur; he hated to disturb her, but if she slept to long in this position she would only wake brittle and stiff.
He had been against this journey from the start. Why travel so far, so long, to see her parents? Ah, he understood the bond between father and daughter, mother and daughter. The everlasting friendship and eternal love that transcended all boundaries of space and time. Even so... If her family loved her so much, if they were so fond of their little star, where were they? Where were they when her heart was torn to shreds by her childhood friend turned romantic interest? That crimson stallion who treated her like a prize and then turned and then turned around to announce his romance with some other mare? Who had driven her into madness, into despair? Where had they been then? Where had they been?
Yes. He had questions to ask...
But those could wait.
A soft smile broke his hardened features as she stirred gently. Yes... they could wait.
He could never say no to her. She had asked... he had answered with the inevitable yes.
He just couldn't say no.

Sadiki stirred gently, a soft smile gracing her features as her beloved Kazan nuzzled her affectionately. What better way could there ever be to wake up?
She lay there for a few moments, enjoying the sunlight's sweet embrace, and then moved slowly- tenderly- to her feet. "... I'm awake." He voice was hoarse, tired, worn- testament to her long journey. And yet she couldn't have been happier.
Long forgotten were the times of woe and despair. Kazan's vigilant presence, his stoic determination, his steady support, had been all she had needed to climb out of her gloomy pit of melancholic sorrow and turbulent memories. She now associated crimson red with warmth, love, affection- not pain, betrayal, depression.
She paused, a small groan escaping her lips as she stretched out the last kink in her spine. The weight she now bore- concentrated at her middle- ah, what a chipper burden!
How had her mother done it?
She needed her mother's care, her mother's touch, her mother's sweet words and kind heart. Kazan was... well, for all his passionate devotion, he was still a stallion. He knew nothing of a mare's burdens.
Ah, mother... where are you?
She moved forwards, ears flicking backwards as the sound of a large animal tearing through the brush met her ears. "... Kazan?" Fear squeezed her chest as she moved quickly to his side, ignoring the plaintiff waddle she had developed so as not to knock her belly with her knees. "... Kazan, what is it?"
The sounds grew louder.

The morning brought many things. It brought the new day... Well, obviously. It brought the sun. It brought the relief that you've lived another day with no harm. It also brought the chance to meet new people, learn new things. Of course, the morning also just made you another day older.
And even if she didn't look it, Alenazsa was definitely beginning to feel all those days behind her rack up... in short, she was starting to feel old.
She was a mother. She was a Grand-mother. She'd become the She-head of quite a large... beautiful, well-put together family. A family she was proud of, to say the least.
As the silence around her broke, with both the many chirps of a bird, and her mate's voice, her pale, colorless eyes slowly slid open, blinking a few good times to adjust to the day's light, before sliding open completely, in perfect unison with the smile that formed on her maw.
"I am now... Shishio." She spoke gently, calm, as she most always did... her head slowly raising from it's stuck, resting position. She stretched her neck, tilting her head back to the sky directly above, letting out a long, gentle sigh as her mane fell this way and that.
Slowly she stood, pushing the strength in her legs until she found herself on her knees, and soon, straight on her hooves.
She trotted lightly to her lover. Her mate. Her man as she'd jokingly called him in the past to a few other mares she'd met. She nipped at him gently, before nuzzling him, just as gently.
"Good morning"

The morning had hit her early, as it usually did. That was, of course, because never lately did she stay up after dark, wandering the plains until Midnight.
She'd gotten to the point in her life where she realized, she wouldn't find the love of her life there. Only trouble.
Oh, the trouble.
Analae heaved a sigh, as she paced about not too far from where her parents had kept their rest, taking a short, random moment to... reminisce, if you would.
She thought first of her brother. Oh Konu... She smiled lightly at the image of her brother in her mind. It'd been a while since she'd seen the bum... Her childhood playmate and best friend. ...
How long had it been since she'd seen him? Too long. They'd both grown up... She was sure he had a mate by now. Probably children. He always was the lucky one after all.
Her mind wandered then, to her other siblings.
Where had Evanesca disappeared to as of late? The little booger.... Her twin, only popped out at the wrong time. Analae grinned there, at her own thoughts.
Sadiki was still around.... And fat. Analae of course knew what that meant, (She wasn't an idiot, after all)... especially with that Kazan dude around. She was fat, and probably with his kids. Or maybe an idiot brother of his,... but.. Nah. Probably his.
She wasn't sure how the hell she felt about Diki's 'fatness' as she had come to call it. Sure, she'd be an aunt to some munchins around her. That'd be cool. It'd be a nice substitute for her own lack of kiddos. But.. Still. It was her baby sister. Having kids before her... There was definitely something wrong with that picture. She heaved another sigh. It wasn't like there was anything she could do about it.
What about Autiren, anyway? He disappeared a while back too.... Sure, he came back,... He had some mare too. What is it with the younger siblings?! They must have some good sort of Mate-attracting Gene in them, or something.
Another sigh.
But.. her younger brother... Even after he came back to show off that Kahili of his, he disappeared once again. Though.. maybe he was being smart, and was spending time with her family? Getting on the good side with Kahili's parents? .... Autiren? Doubt it.

It's a wonder if there was some sort of... connection, between the two siblings.... Analae and Autiren. ...as it was kind of ironic, how at the same time, they thought of the same thing.
Except, he was thinking of Her, of course. Still hasn't found a guy... Ha. Her and Evanesca... Maybe it's like... Unless you have a Black coat you just aren't lucky. We got mother's gene... Dad always did rave about how gorgeous ma' is. The three of us... Me, Sadi, and Konu.. We got lucky. He grinned ear to ear, as he felt his tail bob slightly behind him, standing tall upon a hill as he watched the morning sunrise.
After a moment of musing over the Black fur smex gene possibility, he turned his head to exactly what it was that Fur gene had won him. Rather, what it had won his heart.
"Kahili.." He breathed lightly, a dim smile on his maw, watching as the mare.... Most gorgeous in his eyes, slept on the bottom edge of the hill. Around her... he was a different kind of Stallion.
He was gentle... to an extent... in what he said. He was kind... again, sort of to an extent, but Hey, Born a cocky male, dead one too.
But... he was always.. happy. And there was only one thing he ever disliked about being with her; When she was unhappy of course. When he'd disappear for some lengths of a time... how upset she'd become.... Though he knew in his heart, she was always happy when he came back.
Even when he disappeared, he never had any intention of leaving her. Every waking moment, she invaded his mind. His day thoughts, his dreams....
Oh the dreams. He often had dreams of what their foals would look like... Would they carry her beauty? Would they be as kind and sweet as her? He could honestly say, he couldn't care in the least if none of his children turned out to ever be like him. He wouldn't mind little mini Kahilis' running about...
Because to him, she was perfect... And she was also the only one meant for him. Though he hated to admit it.. He always had the always returning thought... No one else deserves me but her...
...Love didn't change him from being a cocky b*****d 40% of the time. (I doubt anything will change that.)

((I feel outnumbered ;.; xD)) Kahili rolled over in her sleep, expecting to bump into the solid figure of Autiren but instead just rolled right over. It took a couple minutes for the to register in her mind and she finally forced herself to open her eyes. Squinting against the sun, she could see the upside down familiar figure up on a hill, since she was now somehow on her back everything looked upside down. "What are you doing? It's too early to be up there and smiling and watching that damn sun shining in my face. And quit playing in the sky you can do that later when it's not dawn."
She flopped back over onto her side with a huff but the sun was starting to win its battle over her, no matter how tightly she curled into a ball or covered her face with a limb. "OKAY! I'm up! You win you bright shining ball of crap," she glared at the sun and then looked around for breakfast. Food had better be close by or else she was going to get grumpy.
