Amaranta was laying in the den relaxing, she had been up early, having lessons from her mom. Amaranta like the rest of her siblings had been up early in the morning to study. Their mom often gave them lessons, her and her siblings were suppose to be both physically and mentally fit. The way their mother put if she had her way her and her siblings would be the ones running the pride.
She stretched her dark blue/purple body out. She was sore from her physical training today, and she knew there would be more training later probably more on the mental side of things though, at least there she could keep up. She never wanted to let down her mom, but she didn't overly like constantly training other. She knew not doing what her mom wanted would be worse for her though.
Amaranta was trying to relax, but was finding it challenging. She knew if her mother cam back to the den and saw her laying around doing nothing, there would be hell to pay. She rolled over to her side, contemplating what she should do with her with her time, when she heard a movement from the dens opening. She jumped to her feet reading herself for a lot of yelling, but that is when she caught sight of her brother Octavian.

Octavian grinned, standing over his sister, "Lying around Amara? Come on now, what would mother say if she saw that?" Atia was resting though, and he was glad that she was older for a mother... it she had been young and spry, she would have had her eyes on them every second of every day. He did like that his mother paid them a great deal of attention... even negative attention, but if it had been all the time? He was more than certain he would have gone completely mad.
He wasn't as sore as his sister was from their hard training. He liked to push himself farther than his siblings every day. It wasn't enough to be as good as his mother wanted, he had to be better, because as long as everyone just aimed for 'satisfactory' they would be worthless against his clear superiority.
Some might have believed Octavian didn't know how to relax... but really, if he appeared to be better than his parents were, then he could relax at his own leisure, and Atia would barely bat an eyelash. He wouldn't say he was her favorite, because he was pretty sure his mother didn't have a favorite. She just had daily 'winners' that she never admitted to having. "Be careful, you never know who's watching now do you?"

Amaranta jumped to her feet soon as she noticed her brother standing in the den entrance. "What does it matter to you what I do Octavian?" she responded boldly. She tried to stand up to her brother when she could, but it was hard to deny that he was both bigger and earned more praise from their mother, and if they were to get into a fight there wasn't a doubt in her mind that her mother would take his side. Mind you if there dad was around that would be a whole other story.
She sauntered over to her brother's side and rubbed up against him, "Who besides you would be watching me" she said quietly. She knew her brother sometimes had a soft spot for her but other times he could be brutal, she wasn't sure what would happen this time.
She sat down in front of him, and looked him straight in the face with a small smile in her face. She knew she was playing with fire, but that didn't stop her, she had to get her kicks somehow.

Octavian chuckled, "You're so jumpy sometimes Amara... you should be a little more relaxed. Mother will worry why you look so tense..." Of course, they both knew that Atia only worried that they would draw suspicion about what was really going on within the leopard family. Tense children would make her look bad, and their mother never wanted to look bad. That was no good at all, now was it?
"And you know I'm always watching you my dear little Amara." He grinned, petting her head sweetly, obviously not in a bullying mood that day and instead being 'kind' to his sister. Though Octavian's opinions of kindness were often debatable.
He sat down and tilted his head, grinning, "Besides, if we're hanging out and look like we're doing something, mom won't bug us. After all, she has our brothers and sisters to look after too, now doesn't she?"

"Good point Octavian mom should be busy, lets go have some fun. " Amaranta said to her brother before dashing out of the den. She knew that he would chase after her. Amaranta looped around making sure her mother was no where in the area. Most of the pack wouldn't think anything of seeing the two youngsters playing around the pack lands but if there mother caught them, well that would be a different story.
Satisfied that her mother wasn't around at that time, Amaranta headed down towards the water. She wasn't able to swim yet, but she enjoyed being down by the beach. She came right to the waters edge and put her feet into the water, letting the waves splash on her feet. It was there she waited for her brother to catch up with her. He dark purple fur looking radiant in the sun.

Octavian grinned, chasing after his sister. After all, when Atia was busy with her pride duties, it was a hell of a lot easier to go around and do as you liked, now wasn't it? And their mother was a busy woman, even without the cubs crawling all over her. She liked it best when their father was around to make sure they stayed out of her way. And Octavian liked it when their dad was around and could distract their mother even more.
He ran with Amara all the way to the beach, jumping in the water and laughing, "Hey! If mom does notice we're missing, then we can just say we were learning how to swim! I'm sure that she'd buy that!" Well, maybe not. Their mother could smell a lie from a mile away.
But he would certainly try.

Amaranta took a step out of the water again looking at her brother, "Mother might buy it, but we will still be killed for swimming without her permission. I mean even daddy goes on about how the waters can be dangerous to us at this young age, I can hear the lectures from Mother already. All about how we almost jeopardize all her plans and hard work" she rolled her eyes as she said this, the life of her children was nothing, it was her plans that were important.
Instead Amaranta went back up onto the beach and rolled over on her back, "Come on Octavian come relax with me how often do we get to be just kids. It will be good for us." Amaranta took a little from her dad in this sense, although she was totally willing to appease her mom, and work hard and she wanted to be at the head of the pride one day, she recognized that it wasn't going to happen today. Today was a day to be a kid, work hard and play hard. Of course this was more or less something her siblings didn't get.

Octavian sighed a little. Their father was so easy to please in the end... all you had to do was say a few words and then he would adore them. It was his mother whose love he wanted... though he would never admit it. He wasn't sure about his other siblings... but just for her to say once, even once, that she loved him, and for him to believe her, would have been a nice change. "Yeah, yeah... fine, whatever. But mom's plans are important. Think about what we're doing for the pride by helping her." He didn't care much for the pride though. In the end, it was all for mother.
Now... truth be told, sometimes Octavian forgot that he was just a cub. It was hard to remember with parents like his. Well, maybe not Beau, because whenever he was around, Octavian wondered what it would be like to have a totally carefree life. To do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted... while Atia monitored their every move to make sure nothing was out of place. "Right, relax. I'll have to remember how to do that sometime." Though he did relax a little more than his siblings did sometimes. He liked to look relaxed while he was always planning something on the inside.

"Yes the plans are important Octavian, but there is nothing that can be done now. But lets put it this way, we should be doing it for ourselves not for our mother. Think about it if we are going to take over this pride we will be in charge. We will be in charge, of everything including her." Amaranta gave her brother a cunning smile, she liked the idea of being in charge of her mother.
"No relax!" she shouted as she jumped on her brother pushing him to the ground. She laughed and rolled over so she was laying beside her brother opposed to on top of him. "She how nice it feels to just lie in the sun and do nothing?" she asked. She didn't get a chance to do this often, only a little when her father was around.

"...Amara... you're seriously considering trying to take over the pride?" Octavian asked, his eyes narrowing a little, "Mother would certainly not approve, I don't think. Our duty is to protect it, and be the shadow of evil while the Caesar is the light in doing so." And now, while he was young, he believed that. His mother had always protected the pride. Even if she had to do it in ways that others didn't exactly... aprove of. Sometimes it had to e done that way.
He sighed and laid back, "Whatever... just make sure that mom doesn't hear you talking like that. She might kill you." He chuckled a little. He couldn't help it... the idea of his mother killing one of his siblings to cut down on the competition. "But you're right my dear sister. This is nice."

Amara smiled at her brother, her mother might be mad at her for being close to the head of the pride but she wasn't sure that her mother would kill her over it. "I would never reveal any of my plans to mother" Amara said simply. "I will follow her lessons and do what she says, but lets face it Octavian one day we will be above her, we will rule her."
She smiled at the though of being in charge of her mother, and she felt her brother would feel the same. The thought of one of her siblings being killed off kind of gave her a twinge of excitement, which quickly turned to guilt. There was a lot of them though and well the competition would be easier with less siblings in her way. Though for now she needed her siblings around to take attention off her.
"What about you Octavian, do you have big plans?" she asked, though she half expected him to completely dodge the question.

Octavian tilted his head and laughed, "Oh Amara, do you really think that I'd tell you any of my plans? I'm not that stupid." He grinned, laughing a little. He knew his sister wasn't an idiot, and he intended to outmatch her just like he would everyone else... sooner or later. But he'd have to be big and strong for that to work... he'd need friends and allies for anything that would happen in the future.
His mother had ingrained such lessons into his mind a long time ago...
In the end, either his siblings would help him reach his goals... or they'd be in his way. And anyone who got in his way, he had to get rid of no matter what.

Amaranta smiled, she knew her brother wouldn't tell her a thing. She knew Octavian didn't underestimate her, and she also knew he would use her to get whatever he wanted. She was OK with that for now, for now it wasn't getting in the way of her plans at alll.
However the day he got in her way she wouldn't hesitate in steping over him to get to where she wanted. "That's fine Octavian you keep your plans to yourself, lets just hope our plans never overlap shall we?" she asked him with a coy smile on her face. She rolled onto her side to look more closely at her brother.
She moved closer to her brother, wondering if entering his personal space would push his boundries. She never got close to anyone in her family, with the exception of her father when he was around. He was probably the only the one with a heart not made of ice in the family.

"Well, you certainly are something Amara, I'll give you that." Octavian laughed, not minding how close his sister got. In fact, he just slung an arm over her shoulder and laughed a little, "You keep being so tricky, and maybe you'll even snatch yourself one of Caesar's sons. I'm sure mom would just love that, now wouldn't she? After all, she has so many of us now... I'm sure she wouldn't mind wasting one of her girls on a lion for some hybrid kids."
After all, he and his sister had a lot in common. Generally, they were a lot alike in general. If he could get his paws on one of the king's sons, well, he planned to be friends with them anyway. You had to stay close to the Caesar family if you wanted to get anywhere, and their mother was already close... they had to do the rest themselves.
And Atia never stopped reminding them about that one. She never stopped reminding them about... anything. The shadow assassins of the pride. They had to do evil where the Caesar could only do good. They had to be the strong arm in the dark... how Atia kept herself from getting greedy and wanting to take the pride for herself, he didn't know.
His mother was all-powerful in the cub's eyes. She should have just taken the pride for her own...

Amaranta let out a soft chuckle when her brother mentioned the idea of her snagging one of the Caesars sons, it was true it was something that she wanted to see happen in her future, having children linked to the royal family could prove beneficial to her in the future. Of course she would never admit any of this to her brother, she liked that he didn't underestimate her but she didn't want to give her secrets away either. Instead she answered with a joking manner, "Wouldn't you like that Octavian. Me providing you with a closer link to the Caesars family? Of course if you wanted it bad enough you could always go after one of his daughters, though then again they would never be Caesar."
She attempted to watch her brothers face as she said all of this, she wondered if he would give anything away to her in his face. She doubted it however, Octavian was always careful about how he spoke and the actions he did. He was forever aware of himself, something their mother had driven into them. She didn't want her cubs giving away anything to the rest of the pride about how she raised her children and what her plans were for them.
