It was with a certain level of fanaticism that Burn patrolled today. He had only recently been given such a responsibility, and while patrolling in and of itself wasn't all that exciting, the future prospects gleaned from doing this well were numerous. For starters, he'd be trusted to venture further and further form the home territory. But while that was by far and away one of his biggest ambitions, Burn was smart enough to recognize that he had a still greater desire.

Traveling was virtually worthless if you didn't know where you were going. His own mother had taught him that early on, when he had first started showing signs of what she termed 'wandering feet.' Without an end in sight, he'd only be setting himself up for a long and fruitless search, finally concluding right where he had started... with nothing to show for it.

So Burn had thought long and hard as he patrolled. What was it he would seek? What was it within his chest that urged him beyond his limits? To run as fast as a deer? To leap gorges and scramble across cliff faces as if he were a mountain goat? What was it about the unknown that drew him to it like a moth to the flame?

Luckily, today's area was relatively foreign to him. He'd only tracked it once with Blais before being assigned, and he noted with some pleasure that it was a true Border. The Herd Markers were there for him to study, and beyond them... well... who knew what!
