Sick. SICK! She'd fallen ill on the sharding sands. Of all the misfortunes...shells! Kyllae was not a happy camper, holed up in the infirmary like this. Not that she had much to complain about. She didn't have to do chores, and her every need was attended to, but...she was plain bored. And out of the social scene. Something she was not pleased about. While her friends were out having fun, some with new dragons, she was stuck in a bed, lounging around, waiting for people to drop by and talk to her. She wasn't even that sick anymore! She could function quite well, she just got tired easily, and still had a little bit of stomach problems, but...she was fully coherent. The bright flash of her eyes, her mischievous smirk...their return signaled that all was well.

She yawned and stretched out to her fullest, staring up at the ceiling. She sighed afterwards, blinking a few times as she kicked the blankets off. Oh she was painfully bored. Kyllae was a girl who liked to entertain and be entertained. The only other people in here were sick ones...not her cup of tea. She wanted lively folks. Someone she could hold a conversation with. T'ka had been over to see her in the morning...but had to leave to go practice wing formations. Oh how Kyllae envied her cousin. With a full grown green, T'ka could travers Pern at leisure, and riding a green, there wasn't a ridiculous amount of responsibility placed on her either. T'ka had it good. Kyllae was still a candidate, still dragonless. She frowned and folded her arms across her chest, glaring at everything. This was not acceptable. At all. She was Kyllae! She deserved better than this!

O'asis hadn't felt so great himself when he'd found out that Kyllae had been whisked off by the Healers. He'd known that things were happening on the Sands - but by the time they'd started happened, he'd already been fawning over Uktenath, and his main concern hadn't just been that people were getting sick, but that people getting sick might worry his bronze.

He'd been silly, of course. Uktenath was observant, and while he was concerned about what had happened, it was only so far as he did not want it to affect either his bonded or the others important to him. And when he'd found out that one of O'asis's friends - friends being a strange term to understand, people that were important without being necessarily strategic... Uktenath wanted to understand this better, he felt it might be important - had gotten sick, they'd both agreed, it was best to visit her as soon as they could. O'asis from concern, Uktenath from... curiosity.

So they were at the infirmary. And after spending an inordinate amount of time fielding off despairing accusations of "You haven't hurt yourself again, have you?" and equally despairing cries of "Faranth, why did you let that Trader Impress a bronze?", O'asis learned two things. First of all, having merely Impressed Uktenath was not going to get him any respect around here - but second of all, nobody was going to stop him from walking in now that he was a bronzerider, anyway. At least, it wouldn't until he ran into someone with Zara's mettle - and hopefully he'd have had a good visit before such a person would come.

"Kyllae?" He'd nearly walked past the room before recognizing the girl laid out on a cot. She didn't look too bad, at least - other than the fact it'd probably been a while since she'd washed up, she hardly seemed sick at all! Encouraged, O'asis went barging in the room. "So, this's where they've got you holed up!"

His bronze shadow followed, settling back onto his haunches a short distance from the bed, saying nothing.

Off in her little dream world, trying to escape the onslaught of boredom, Kyllae'd hardly been paying attention to the movement and voices of people. People were constantly in and out of here, bringing food and various other things. She used to pay attention to them, but not anymore. There was nothing exciting about them. So when she heard voices nearby, they were ignored as readily as all the others. That was, until she'd heard her name mentioned.

It was a joke that Kyllae could hear her name from a mile underground. And while that was a bit of an understatement, Kyllae was very good at tuning in whenever she heard something that might involve her. She jumped to attention before the 'lae' part of her name had been pronounced, and looked up to see O'asis. Her face melted into a radiant grin that could make the sun look dull, even as she sat up, fixing her hair as best she could with her hand and less than a moment's notice. "Come to pay a visit to a damsel in distress?" Kyllae asked, her smile never faltering. "I do so want to be rescued, you know," she laughed.

She regretted that she wasn't in a little bit better condition. The clothes she was supplied with here were hardly form fitting, and bathing with a hot wet cloth wasn't quite as good as an actual dip in a tub. Oh well, there wasn't much she could do about that now. She held up a hand, and more importantly her index finger, before anything else could be said. "I don't have it with me now, on account of the fact that all of my belongings are in my room, but I actual managed to get a few bets that you'd impress, you know! I've got a good mark or two with your name on it." She had to get that out first, before she forget in favor of reveling in company. A visitor! Oh she couldn't begin to describe how positively perfect O'asis seemed right now.

She allowed herself a momentary glance at his dragon. She already knew him to be bronze, T'ka had informed her, though the idea of O'asis as a bronze rider was still...wow! "My personal congratulations on your impression as well. Hope you haven't forgotten about our 'date'," she teased sweetly. She sat up a little, instantly regretting it, for the ache in her gut was tremendous, but she hardly showed her agony on the outside. She was too busy smiling. She smiled in turn at Uktenath, giving him an acknowledging nod.

"You impressed well," she informed Uktenath. "Though you obviously already knew that." Despite her utter fascination with the gorgeous little bronze, Kyllae's main attention was still O'asis. It'd been a while since she'd seen him. Far too long. The length of his hair attested to that. It was much longer than the last time they'd really had a chance to chat.

She drew her knees up, wincing just a little at that one, and patted the bed. "You're welcome to take a seat if you'd like. If you can stand the sight of me, that is. Pardon my shabby appearance, I've had a rather tough time keeping up my appearance in my condition."

Uktenath seemed momentarily alarmed, glancing up at O'asis. You did not tell me we were here to rescue anyone, he told His flatly. It wasn't that the bronze would refuse such a mission - if they were to do it, there was surely reason, after all - but he would have liked to know before now!

O'asis just laughed, though, and the little dragon seemed to relax a smidgeon. "Not here for that, no," the blond assured Uktenath. "Alas, that I could! But there's at least four Healers between here and the exit that I think could take me in a fight. Better to pay a visit to the prisoner today, and save the rescue expedition for when no one's looking." He smiled at Kyllae, eyes twinkling. "When do you suppose that might be, anyway?"

Reassured, Uktenath returned Kyllae's nod at last, just bowing his head by the faintest of degrees. He was still studying her, perhaps more intensely now than before. He hadn't met with anyone remotely like her yet, and he hadn't sorted out what to think of her. O'asis liked her, at least, and that should be enough for him... shouldn't it?

"Still look a fair bit prettier than me, so I'll reserve judgment," O'asis assured the Dolphineer, grinning and taking his spot on her bed. "How are you feeling? Better by now, I'd hope?"

"In another day or two I won't need rescuing. I'll be getting out of here myself. I don't exactly fancy being kept in. Not when there's so much to do. People to meet. Trouble to get into," She shrugged. It was the truth though. She didn't care if she was bleeding like a stuck pig, she was going to get out of here, preferably soon. Hopefully the ache in her side would go away first though. She wouldn't admit it, but it felt like she'd swallowed a tunnelsnake. And every time she moved, it decided to take a nibble on her innards. Not fun. The healers assured her it would go away soon though. Kyllae had never been much into the healing aspect of Dolphineering, so she decided just to take the advice of the healers on this one.

"Well, actually, I probably feel worse. Though no doubt that's because I was unconcious before, and now that I'm awake, I actually feel. But it's no big deal. I've suffered worse." The healers were always trying to get her to drink more fellis juice. 'Sleep it off' they said...blasphemy. Kyllae would have no such thing. To sleep through her sickness would be sleeping away her life. Why, she might be asleep when visitors came! And that would just be terrible. She wound a strand of hair around her finger and unwound it again methodically. "Sweet, as always," she teased him.

Being so absorbed in company, however, she'd almost forgotten something else! Something very big indeed. Why, under her bed, three little treasures. And up until now, she had absolutely no idea what to do with the third one. O'asis was in luck. She leaned over, ignoring the complaining her body offered, and carefully, gently lifted up a small pot. It was heavier than it looked, and hot, so it needed to be lifted carefully. Kyllae would suffer to no end if she screwed this up. She set the pot on the bed, gesturing to the contents. Three flit eggs. Two green, one blue. She indicated the blue one with her index finger, looking up from it to stare into O'asis's eyes. "You want it?"

T'ka had given them to her as incentive to get better. Appearantly, her cousin had gotten on of the two green ones at the gather, and the other two...Xythe laid eggs! Not only that though, Daeok was the father! Kyllae found that endlessly hilarious. Flits didn't transfer their emotions quite as strongly as dragons, but...still. Having your flit in a Flight had to be something. She couldn't imagine the sensation of having your flits fly each other. The idea of her straight-laced, reserved cousin subject to those kinds of feelings was most amusing. But T'ka'd seen fit to give the eggs to Kyllae as well, so the ex-Dolphineer couldn't complain.

"You don't have to take it, if you don't want it."

"It's a plan, then," O'asis declared, needlessly dramatic. "In two days, I'll return and rescue you!" Uktenath looked at His doubtfully. Kyllae did not seem to need rescuing, and he murmured this carefully to the blond; but O'asis just grinned more ferociously than ever. "And Uktenath will help, of course. He needs to learn about this type of thing." That much he was serious about, at least. Uktenath could benefit from a dose of theatrics and unnecessary trouble-making, let alone that they'd be helping a friend! Helping her regardless of the fact, which Uktenath was sure of but O'asis more dubious, that she might not need help at all. The little bronze could use a few more friends, O'asis thought, but he didn't see much use for them yet beyond that O'asis found them important; a bit more time, a bit more experience....

"Just honest," the bronzerider insisted cheekily, knowing well that it was what she'd want to hear. Though in his private opinion, she really didn't look all that worse for the wear - it wasn't like that figure had disappeared in just a few days, and her smile was just as vivacious as ever, and....

And I've got other things to think about first, O'asis reminded himself sternly. Uktenath was already looking at him in confusion, catching glimpses of his thoughts and not knowing what to make of them. And for the first time since their visit, O'asis had to force himself to think about what wasn't attractive about Kyllae, watching her as she turned to get something from beneath her bed, studying her at her most awkward angles. Start with the hair, and rumpled bedclothes; remember that she was sick, and probably teeming with snot and mucus and phlegm. Or seconds away from vomiting, or something that only Faranth knew.

You are strange, Mine, Uktenath said dubiously, following the change in O'asis's surface thoughts with uncertainty, but accepting their change. A small sigh of mental relief, and O'asis was calm. He would need to be more careful around Kyllae, it seemed; just until Uktenath was older, and then maybe....

"You want it?"

It took O'asis a split second to realize what he was looking at within the pot, being offered from it. Her finger was addressing the little blue egg, one among the three. His eyes traced its path, then flew up to her. Wide, disbelieving, questioning. "... Huh?" he asked articulately, before staring again at the egg.

A little blue flit egg. Good size, good color. Well-cared for. In perfect health.

And she was offering to just... give it to him? Just like that? There'd been a time, not so long ago, that it would have taken every mark he owned, and then some, to even dream of seeing a flit hatch. And how he'd come since then, that a friend could hand one to him as a careless favor....

The ex-Trader seemed to have lost his voice.

}~{Make sure to post the info in the certing thread for it biggrin }~{

Needlessly dramatic? There was no such thing. O'asis was just exciting, fun! Honestly, so many of the Weyr folk were too serious, too bland. There needed to be more people like O'asis. Not that he would be an easy person to replicate. With those dark, powerful eyes of his, his quick wit, and kind words. She'd be lying if she said she didn't find him interesting on more than a mental level.

But Kyllae had a lot of experience with flirting and teasing. Not that it had ever gotten beyond that; flirting or teasing. Kyllae knew her worth. Her boy had to be special. And, thankfully, she had a reason to hold off on her eventual decision, seeing as she was a candidate. And if she impressed, supposedly you were supposed to wait until your dragon was mature to do something like that as well. Besides, she assumed the attraction was mutual, but seeing as how easily he seemed to flirt with her, it was quite possible O'asis was practiced. There were many things still to be tested. But for now, O'asis definately warranted most of 'that' kind of attention.

"A plan indeed! It's been far too long since I've caused any sort of commotion." Other than falling sick at the sands. But that wasn't exactly her choice, and therefore didn't count. And the prospect of getting out of here was more than enticing. She craved it like nothing else.

It was only her respect for O'assis that kept her mouth shut at this point. But how funny he looked at the moment...humored her greatly. Oh, it was definately worth giving him the egg, if only to see his face like that. Who knew a simple thing like a flit egg could steal the tongue of her dashing hero? "Well, if you're so uncomfortable with me just offering this to you for free..." she teased, eyes dancing with playful laugher. "How about I make you a deal?" surely that was something he would understand. "You can have this, so that one, you don't forget me, even when you're busy with Weyrling duties, and so that two, when you're Weyrleader," She shot Uktenath a glance at this one, appraising him once more and finding him worthy "And are busy attending to...whatever you'll be doing. Taking care of the Wings and your Weyrwoman, you won't forget me." And as much as she was teasing, she was a tad serious too. It could be pretty easy to forget who your friends were, caught up with a dragon, particularly a bronze as stunning as Uktenath.

O'asis would go far. That much Kyllae knew. The question remained was whether she would be able to keep up. She had high hopes for the next hatching...whenever that might be.

His ambitions were so transparent, then? Before Impressing Uktenath, O'asis hadn't known how far he was determined to go. He only had ideals on his mind, change, things that needed to be seen through while there was still time for them to be done. He'd known that there would be power that he would need, station he would have to acquire, and he'd known - or hoped, when his faith was weaker - that becoming a dragonrider was the way to get it. Weyrleader, on the other hand, had been something that was too far off to grasp for. His thinking had been bent to manipulations, demonstrations - everything within his power at the moment, what he could reasonably hope for.

But then Uktenath had come to him. And more than ever, he came to realize that there was no limit on what he could achieve, now that the little bronze was at his side. And Weyrleader - of Ista, or of another Weyr....

The dragon went through a set of parallel, but unique, calculations. He'd always known that O'asis would rise to the highest rank that could be afforded to him - because together, they were of unstoppable caliber. But Kyllae saw it too, and that interested him. Accept it, Mine. Uktenath's eyes were a vivid blue. He was certain already; he wanted His to remain close to this girl. She could prove helpful.

"Can't imagine how I'd forget you, anyway," O'asis found his voice at last, urged on by the bronze, "egg or no. And apparently, Uktenath thinks it's a good idea, so...." He kept strong eye contact and smiled. Not one of those bold, dashing smiles that he threw around so freely; nor the cheeky, grinning ones he gave secretively to friends. This one was gentler, but sure, and wholly sincere. "Thank you."

Kyllae was quite pleased with herself. It was no less than delightful, to please O'asis so. She was thrilled for her friend, the most deserving person in the world to have a bronze. He could put it to use. When he mentioned that Uktenath thought it was a good idea, she couldn't help but let another glance flicker in his direction. What was going on in that mind of his? Unlike Haanyath, who was very easy to read through body language, Kyllae was at a loss as to what Uktenath was feeling or thinking. Other than the fact that his eyes were blue, so he must be at least calm, at the best pleased.

Well, if she had known that she was expected to be helpful...they had no idea. If she impressed or not. Green, blue, or the slim chance of gold, she fully intended to have O'asis' back. He seemed like a smart guy. He could do some good. And besides, she was looking out for herself as well! It was always good to have friends in power. No doubt if when O'asis was Weyrleader, he could be of some assistance, if she ever got into trouble. Which was pretty much inevitable.

But by the queen's egg, did he have to smile at her like that?! It absolutely wasn't fair. In her social circle, she was always the flirty one. The teasing one. She wasn't used to being disarmed in such a manner; she was supposed to be the disarming one! A slight blush crept onto her cheeks, something almost entirely foreign to her. Oh, if T'ka found out a boy made Kyllae blush...she'd never hear the end of it. She busied herself staring down at the flit eggs, until she felt the brief heat on her cheeks pass. She would just pretend it was her being sick. Blushing? As if.

She came close to clearing her throat, but that would also seem suspicious. So she refrained. "You can take it now, if you want. I don't think I have anything for you to carry it with personally...but I'm sure someone in here," she gestured around the infirmary. "Has something you could borrow."

Feeling better after her brief decline into unfamiliar territory, in this case, being on the recieving end of gesture she'd hadn't been ready for, she felt fairly back to herself. "But enough about gifts. I want to hear about you." She took the pot and ever so carefully placed it on her bedside table. "Getting into any trouble?" she asked with a wink.

PostPosted: Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:26 pm

Kyllae was right, undoubtedly, about there being something he could borrow to swaddle the egg in. And if there wasn't, shards, he'd just be going back to his weyr shirtless - better he catch a chill than the egg! But for now, it would be warmest in the pot, so he motioned the thought away, beating down the childishly greedy voice that told him now, now, before she changes her mind, take it! "Better it stay warm with its sisters for now, and I'll take it when I go," he repeated his thoughts aloud, just in case he should be tempted to fall into weakness. His head was already going wild with possibilities, and a few memories thrown in for good measure....

"Trouble? Me?" O'asis broke from his thoughts in order to afford Kyllae the most injured look that he could scrounge up. The expression was deliberately artisan, with too-wide eyes and an over-visible heave of his chest. "Such an opinion you have of me.... Of course, it's completely correct."

We have not gotten into any trouble, Uktenath objected stiffly.

"Ah - but as Uktenath points out, we haven't actually gotten into trouble for anything," the blond grinned, "and neither should we ever, since all we're doing is in the best interest. Which doesn't mean it isn't trouble, of course, just that it's a good sort. You want the boring details?"

Kyllae hadn't thought of O'asis carrying the egg in his shirt. As it was, she would have found in most amusing. Just because she had to be good and refrain from any romantic activities didn't mean that she couldn't enjoy herself. And there was nothing wrong with looking. And besides, the mental image of a shirtless bronzerider marching out of the infirmary was most amusing. She would have enjoyed seeing people's faces as they tried to figure out what was going on.

Thank goodness she felt relatively back to normal. Back in her element again, she was much more inclined to flirt back. "I would be disappointed if you weren't into anything," she giggled, partly in praise of his exaggerated expression. She was always one to enjoy a good bit of theatrics.

She waggled her finger knowledgably. "But it's not trouble unless you're caught." Kyllae knew that particular concept quite well. He didn't specify in whose interest the trouble was though. His own? Possibly. Kyllae didn't care either way. She wasn't one to judge. "I hardly doubt whatever you're up to is boring. But I am quite curious to its nature. And if I might be of any assisstance. I do love a good bit of excitement." And that was sincere enough. She was desperate enough to do just about anything, after being cooped up in the infirmary for so long. She just had to be out of here, and back into the thick of things. No matter what. And if she could get out of here and immediately back into something interesting? Well that was all the better.

PostPosted: Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:31 pm

O'asis hadn't come here with the thought of recruiting Kyllae, really. He'd come to visit a sick friend, share in some good fortune. Not promote his own projects. But now, since it was Kyllae and she'd asked....

Smirking, he leaned in to speak with her conspiratorily. Reflexively, Uktenath began watching the door, his ears pricked, poised to catch any would-be snoops.

"It's called the Ista Liberation Army," he began. "This sickness, you know. It spread because there's too many people here. We're packed in too close, and it's only a matter of time before something hits that does worse than lay a few people down a couple days. Some people have been pushing for a new Weyr, but not everyone's gotten the message that it's needed as badly as it is," O'asis told her, gesturing vaguely upwards to signal those people in high authority.

"So we need to get the message out. Subtly. By making the overcrowding problem look as bad as it really is. Small things, you know; causing traffic, making messes, lowering the quality of our work... nothing that couldn't happen accidentally, and nothing that wouldn't happen if we weren't all such careful, mindful Weyrfolk. But things that everyone feels, and the culmination of which...."

He let his words hang in the air, grinning, searching Kyllae for the expected approval.

Kyllae's smile had disappeared while he was talking, fading slowly into a small frown, her brows knitted together in deep thought. This was a big thing he was asking. He had a dragon, he was safe. She could be kicked out of the Weyr. And even if she was confident in her ability to worm her way into another, different Weyr, the fact of the matter was that she would be seperated from all of her friends here, and she might not see O'asis again. But on the upside...there was a lot to be gained. While Kyllae loved people...this overcrowding was far too much for her. She could hardly stretch without bumping into people. Unacceptable. A new Weyr would be...divine.

And then there was the fact that this was O'asis she was talking to. She had his back. She would support him. And besides...it was only trouble if you got caught. Slowly, her mouth twitched up at the corner, morphing into a mischievous, sly grin. The sparkle in her eyes could only be described as devious. "So it's sabotage, then?" Her voice was soft, held low in part to conceal it from anyone around, and in part of her awe.

While ever optimistic, and confident in her ability to impress, Kyllae was nonetheless quite bored by now of lowly candidate chores. She was ready for the purpose which O'asis had just provided. Something to work at in between the queen's egg laying. She was Kyllae, more than just a practiced party guest, she was excellent at stirring things up. "I've never been much for grunt work," she mused, but it was playful. There was no doubt in her mind this was something she wanted to do. Screw the rules! She was Kyllae, and she could do whatever the hell she wanted.

She stared at the bedsheets for a moment, drumming her fingers on the blanket, before her gaze flicked back up to O'asis. "Count me in." She flashed him another one of those mischievous smiles. "I'll give 'em a run for their money."

PostPosted: Mon Jun 29, 2009 7:49 pm

And instantly, O'asis beamed his approval. He'd known that Kyllae would be up for it, he just had! The cause was good, the methods were interesting... there was no way that she'd have backed down from a good challenge, even if there were some obvious risks involved with it.

Uktenath, too, was satisfied. This visit had been productive after all; had His known that it would be? But no; if O'asis had planned this from the beginning, he would have told the bronze. This was either good fortune, some coincidence to the thing that O'asis had really come here for, or else something that Uktenath simply did not understand yet.

O'asis was already thanking Kyllae, cheering her on, lavishing her with his excitement and gratitude; "Ha! That's what I like to hear. Once you're better, we'll get you out of here, and then--"

Mine, Uktenath put in, and O'asis's attention swerved almost instantly from his sick friend. I itch. We should go now.

"... Whoops. Uktenath needs me for a while, Kyllae." O'asis's smile was more apologetic now; he would have liked to stay longer, work on some plans with her, discuss strategy. For now, though, it looked like that would wait for another time.

Kyllae rolled her shoulders, stretched a little, and tossed O'asis a casual smile. Who was she to get upset at dragon business for? That had to be the best excuse in the world...Kyllae would do anything, if she thought she might one day have a dragon of her own; be able to make that excuse. She was going to impress. She really was, she just knew it. The question remaining was just when. "S'okay; go take care of him. Might I add that you two look great together?" She ran a hand through her hair and closed her eyes. She tilted her head back, inhaling deeply, reveling in the fact that she'd had company, even if he now had to leave. That was okay though, this ILA business...gave her something to look forward to. Something to think over. She was going to be more than good at it, she was going to be fabulous. After all, she was already accomplished at getting in trouble...this would just provide a direction for her energies.

"I know you'll be great someday. And I'm here to help in any way I can," she affirmed. A closing statement, really. Flirting was fun and good, but she had to give him a more serious note to leave on. Considering how busy they'd both no doubt be...she wasn't sure when the next time she saw him would be.

And shells, she planned to be busy. The ambitions of a certain blond candidate never ceased. Kyllae never stopped thinking; how could she do more, get more, make more for herself and everyone around her? She admired O'asis drive, and though she couldn't say for certain if his motivations at all matched hers...she liked to think that for the time being, they could both be helping each other out.
