Today was just like any normal day. Ylva rose, she went up her tunnel and was greeted by a more then too cheerful sun. Still, these days, the hyena had a little bit of a pop in her step as she went. She was happier being around Asa and it showed in small ways. Still, Ylva was a grump and often had a little bit of an attitude problem.
Today she was going to try and sneak off to find some herbs for Asa. Even though the hyena seemed to be having quite the recovery it was always good to have herbs. Could never have enough of those. What would she do if Asa slipped and hurt him self? Oh now, she couldn't bare the thought... wait a second hold up! Was she getting feelings for Asa?
The hyena hmmphed to her self and shook her head trying to think of something else rather then Asa's well being. He was just a guest til he got better. Couldn't get attached, soon the hyena would probably be leaving after he got better. Though, mentally, he still needed a lot of help.
Ylva had barely gotten into the plains before she stopped in front of the hidden entrance to her cavern and slouched sadly. She was attached. Maybe she should have left him on those rocks all those moons ago to die. If anything happened to Asa, it would be a relive of her boy. She couldn't stand another thought of death. It hurt to much. No, she'd continue what she set out to do. Get Asa better as much as she could.

Asa was a little shocked when he looked up and Ylva wasn't there. He was so used to her being there... every time he looked up, he couldn't help but expect her. Just like Biku. When she wouldn't go anywhere... wouldn't leave him. But she was probably just getting something to eat. Probably. What if she met Kavu... he hadn't warned her about Kavu... But how could he? But Ylva... he had already made so many mistakes with the things he hadn't said.
He stood up and walked around the den a few times. Half pacing, waiting for her to come back, and half moving his limbs. He could get in and out of the den fairly easily now... but still... he wasn't ready for the outside world alone. Going outside without her was too much... even with her, he always worried who he would see him. It wasn't as though Biku would be hard to miss... they looked exactly the same.
But the truth was... he missed her. Not just Biku, but he had come to like Ylva. More than he had thought he would... but... she was kind. More than she knew... and he had never believed he would care for another person. But if anything happened to Ylva... But no. No. He wouldn't be around long enough to see what happened to her. But still... she was... special.

Ylva took a deep breath and stood up. She was sure Asa would be fine in the tunnel, or rather, she forced her self to believe that he would be. Right now she was focused on either grabbing herbs or breakfast for the two of them. It was her duty.
But something in the bottom of her chest forced her back down in the cavern, just to be sure that Asa was alright. She wasn't checking because she cared or anything , just you know, because he was hers and she was totally lying to her self. Yeah that was it. Probably.
She landed her usual perfect landing effortlessly and even posed as she did so. The glow from the blue crystal's created her, causing her to adjust her eye sight slightly. There was a huge difference from glowing crystal light and sunlight.
Finally her sights set on Asa. The hyena pawed on over to him and nipped at his ear.
"Asa, your joints any better?" First thing was first, check on Asa and his joints.

Asa was relieved when she came back down, safe and sound. He kept reminding himself that not everyone out there was Kavu, and it wasn't fair to assume that they were, but he couldn't help himself. It terrified him. Anyone could be out there... Kavu could be out there... Kavu could do to her what he did to him and Biku... Gods, if anything happened to Ylva...
"They're fine, thank you... still hurt after a while, but they're being stretched out." He mentioned, feeling a little relieved that he conversation was so simple. So easy to talk about instead of all the other things going on in his mind. All the worries... but Ylva was strong. Stronger than he was and less naive. Though a great deal of his naivety had been stripped from him by his experiences... Gods, if that happened to Ylva...
"How are things outside? Nice weather?" He asked, smiling slowly as he tilted his head. Smiling had gotten easier since the night he had screamed at the sky with her. Breathing was easier... but the nightmares still didn't go away. In his sleep he tossed and turned, the visions of his pack screaming at him, his sister asking why he couldn't protect her... and Kavu laughing. Always Kavu laughing.

Ylva lowered her head, inspecting his paws and legs. They looked great, more then great. Sure , Asa still wasn't fully recovered but he was more then fine to be out and about. It was more the dark thoughts that scared Ylva. What if she came home one evening and found the hyena had killed him self with a crystal. Not only would that take weeks to clean but would be a horrible thing to happen to Ylva.
She grumped a little at the thought and eyed Asa a little bit. He seemed happier, sure, but was he.
"Weathers fine, " She smiled awkwardly a tough A - Okay smile a guy may exchange with another guy friend. Yeah, Ylva was tough. Sure, but at one time she hadn't been so strong. That was why she worried so much right now, even as she smiled her goofy smile.
"You been up long or ... did you just get up?" Ylva frowned as she said the end part. Giving Asa a hard time was a way she showed she cared.

Asa smiled at her a little. "Good to know about the weather..." Fine weather. Always fine weather outside since the rainstorm. It didn't matter much... he didn't want to go outside. He didn't want to meet anyone new. He didn't trust anyone. Just Ylva, and that was only because she had saved his life. How could he ever trust anyone who wasn't her? Even Biku... Biku must have hated him so much.
"Ah... I haven't been awake long. I didn't really sleep well." He never slept well. She must have known that. He woke up whimpering with tears in his eyes sometimes. He screamed so loudly in his dreams he was convinced that he must have screamed in his sleep as well. Sleep was the one place he didn't have Ylva to keep him safe. No one could protect him from his own mind.
"How about you? Have a good sleep? You always get up so early..." He had been an early riser once. But now he went to sleep late because he was so afraid to close his eyes. And he was getting increasingly worried, as he worried about Ylva, that his mind would come up with something awful to happen to her.

Ylva knew that Asa didn't sleep well and often times would try her best to ignore it. She wasn't effected by his restlessness by loss of sleep. Ylva , quite frankly, slept like a rock. The cave could collapse and she wouldn't stir. However, she did notice he wasn't eager to sleep and some times had caught him whimpering when she'd stay up later then him.
Still, the hyena never brought this up with him. She couldn't save him in his dreams, only he could do that. But still, he'd never be able to do that if he was still so damaged. The hyena sighed.
"I slept great, as usual...." She opened her maw to say something witty about his not sleeping, but some how it didnt feel right. Asa was still so damaged and Ylva was starting to be more and more worried.
The hyena shook her head, "Asa, we should go out side today and get breakfast together. My backs hurting today.. I must have... landed funny or something, " She lied. Her back was fine, but she needed Asa out of this place and away from his thoughts. He needed fresh air. "You know.... can't drag back left overs all a cross the plains ... with this back," She moaned... poorly.

Asa didn't answer at first, or even notice that she was very blatently lying, because he had frozen on the idea of going outside. Outside... they had gone out a few days before, when he had screamed at the sky with her... and he would be with her. He would be safe with her... but what if... what if... His whole life was stuck on what if's. What if's in the past, in the present, and in the future. He couldn't seem to escape them, and now she wanted him to go outside again... far away from the den... he had been in so much pain the other day, he hadn't had enough time to think about what else could be out there.
"Outside... yeah... sure... I guess..." Asa whispered, wishing that his voice would stop wavering in fear, but he couldn't quite make it work the right way. He knew he couldn't stay inside forever... especially when forever, as far as he was concerned now, wouldn't be very long for him. He hated living in fear. Constantly wondering what could kill him. He hated being alive when every waking second reminded him that he was broken, and he didn't think he could be fixed.
But Ylva wouldn't want to hear it. She wouldn't care if he was afraid, and she wouldn't let him stay inside. So yes was really his only option when he couldn't say no without explaing why. And saying, 'I'm afraid he'll get me or she'll see me' wasn't really a valid answer. She would be furious and drag him out, so it was all he could do to agree. He had to think more positively... he could stretch out the limbs he wished were dead.
"Okay... Let's uh... when do you want to go out?" He hoped it would be later. Maybe she'd have some time to forget and leave on her own.

Ylva's brows dropped at his question of when. The hyena had thought she made it clear that she wanted to go out then and there but didn't jump on him like she would have if she hadn't known, and liked, him. But still she stared at him like he was stupid. Not on purpose, it was just how Ylva was. Blunt and slightly rude. Yeah. But if you got to know her well enough, then , it ended up being forgivable. At least to some, either that or it just was something you ignored.
The act was completely gone with her back and replaced with her just staring and standing in fine posture. Yeah, the lie was out the window now.
"You serious?" The hyena finally said after a long pause. "Well right now would be idle," quickly Ylva tried to save the act she had put on before by wincing, badly. "My back!" She cried and fell over to her side in an over dramatic fashion.
She had heard bits and pieces of the tale of Asa but still did not fully understand his fears. For one out side was something every creature shared and was a way of life. It was hard to grasp the concept of staying shut in with the crsystals. As pretty as they were, it got a little to boring round the cavern for at least Ylva. She'd have gone nuts if she didn't go out. How ever, this was the perspective of a creature who was unaware of the full story of Asa. Course, she never had begged to hear the whole thing or anything.

"Right... now... of course. Silly of me." Asa mumbled, taking a deep breath to stop himself from shaking. He couldn't let her see how scared he was of what he might find out there. It could be nothing, he supposed. They wouldn't see anyone, only find something to eat... but the fear was so very real and profound he could barely think straight. If they walked outside and there was Biku... staring at him with her hurt and betrayed eyes for what had happened to her... Not even the fear of Ylva's misery, or the nobility of all she had done to help him would stop Asa from jumping off the first cliff he laid eyes on.
He was far too distracted by all of that to notice Ylva's complaining -or lack there of- about her back. Really, she could have just asked and he would have still gone out with her. He did still consider himself a gentleman after all.
"Let's ah... I suppose let's go then..." He mumbled quietly, his whole body revolting as he forced himself towards the entrance to the cave. Maybe it was like ripping off a bandaid and would only hurt for a second, but he couldn't be sure... he couldn't be sure of anything.
He needed to take deep breaths. He needed to keep it together. If he broke down... well, Ylva wouldn't be very impressed first of all, and second of all... if he really started to talk... if he ever had a chance to tell his whole story... he wasn't sure he would be able to stop. And he didn't want her to know that. He didn't want anyone to know.

Ylva was not surprised by the hesitation from Asa but she was a little surprised he didn't put up much of a fight with her. She didnt question it though, just followed after Asa with out any witty comments.
Still she was worried for him, something was not right and she was starting to regret forcing him from the cave. But still, she was sure everything would be alright. At least while she was up there with him. Ylva would chase away a lion if it even looked at her Asa the wrong way. After all, Asa's life now belonged to Ylva and she wasn't going to give him back. She couldn't.

((Happens XD))
Asa took a deep breath and walked slowly out of the cave, making his way up even though his joints still ached. He wondered if he would remember what it felt like not to... not to hurt anymore. If he lived that long, and he really didn't intend to if he didn't have to. But leaving Ylva seemed less and less... fair. She had done so much to try and helped him... she had proven that you didn't have to know someone to protect someone. She had done everything he would have done for Biku. Everything he should have done for her.
Yet the outside world... the idea of leaving the saftey of her den... anyone could be out there. Anyone who would betray or hurt them just like Kavu had... worse... it could be Kavu... it could be Kavu... He froze for a second.
"Ylva... I don't..." His whole body was frozen at the mouth of the den. He couldn't go out there. "I don't think I can move..."

Ylva ran over toward him, dropping her hurt back lie on the dime for Asa. At first she thought maybe it was a snake or some kind of scorpion that was in his way and he didn't want it to strike but when she got there and saw nothing she looked back on over to Asa's face. That face told it all, fear, and not of something physical but mental. This was a battle with his inner demon's as they haunted him, what ever it may be. Going out side, obviously, had triggered these demons to surface.
The hyena frowned but knew she couldn't help him right now. Sure , Ylva was great with getting Asa to take his herbs and to eat and all that crap but when it was something with his mind only Asa had control there.
"Asa," Ylva whispered softly to the frozen hyena, "Asa, why can't you move." Ylva was fighting her own urge to call him a name or something. Right now that probably would only make things worse and cause Asa to shut down more. Ylva frowned deeper.

"They could be..." He could barely say the words, and he certainly couldn't stop shaping, "What if they're out there...? If Biku sees me... if she sees me... I can't bear it... I can't bear..." His eyes very nearly rolled back in his head, "And Kavu... I can't let Kavu... if he knows I'm still alive... I'll never get away... I'll never get away... and if he finds you... he'll do whatever he can to hurt me... he'll hurt everyone I love... he'll..."
"Oh come now Asa... you've always been wonderful... but the look on your face when you're in pain... Nothing compares to that." He could never escape Kavu's words whispering in his hear. His laughing face when Asa had finally confronted him. Kavu had always known he would win in a fight with the younger hyena... he had always known just how to destroy him. What would he do if he found out Asa had someone else that he cared about?
What would he do to Ylva if he met her...? If he knew it would hurt Asa... he would destroy her. Just to prove he could. If Kavu was outside... if Kavu met them... and Biku... if Biku thought Asa had dumped her alone and afraid and just moved on... how would she look at him? Would she ever forgive him?
"I can't face them... if they know I'm alive... I don't want him to hurt me again..." He was such a coward. Such a fraud. Such a failure. Kavu could be miles away... someone might have killed him... but as long as Asa didn't know where he was or what had happened to him... he couldn't face what was out there.

Ylva frowned so deeply at his babbling. Still, she hadn't heard the whole story. So far though, to her, it sounded like bull s**t. Not that it didn't happen but Asa's over reaction was bull s**t. Her eye lids lowered as her eyes narrowed.
"Asa, you don't want me to kick your a**." She growled fur sticking up, "You know as well as I do the likely hood that Biku or .. ummm," The hyena tried to remember the name he had just said, "Kuva," she had gotten it wrong, "are up there. Now stop your blubbering and get your freaking a** up there or you'll have something to fear in this den as well as out side."
Even though she was getting on his case, her words held no real malice to them. She wasn't doing this out of annoyance but love. She would never admitt it but she had some where along the line picked up a caring for the young male before her. Ylva would kick his a** too to prove she was serious. Just, she could never hurt him so bad or break his spirits. That was something the hyena wasn't capable of and why she didn't trust others. Once long ago when she had been young and thought she still had a home after shed lost everything her trust was broken and her ego had been flattened. Slowly the hyena had to build it back up to the seemingly hard shell of a hyena standing before Asa.
