Sailien had definitely had enough. Since Ruokei's meeting with Rou, he'd watched the little boy tuck himself away in his room with the papers Mireille had printed out, spending hour after hour tracing letters and slowly but carefully sounding things out. It was BOOOOOORING, to say the least, and the longer Sailien spent bored, laying in the comfort of the closet's darkness, the more his grandmother's influence crept in.
It was time to shake things up a bit...
So far, he'd led the boy on a merry chase through areas where they'd already walked, but Ruokei was definitely starting to gain on him. The sunlight was tiring him out, and Ruokei seemed to be enjoying the little chase. So rather than give up, Sailien ducked into the first open door he saw, eyes darting around for darkness before he slipped under a nearby table, managing to not upset a single thing atop it.
Ruokei saw the dark flash of fur dart into the building and froze, the laughter bubbling from his lips dying as he hesitated. This wasn't his home. What if he wasn't welcome? What if Sailien wasn't welcome? What would he do then?!

Hitsuga had not noticed Sailien's intrusion, having ducked out of the storefront and into the kitchen momentarily to check on the soup simmering on the stove that would end up being lunch if nothing went awry with it.
Finding nothing amiss, the vegetables beginning to get tender as they cooked, he sets the spoon aside. He'd be opening in a couple of days, and he still had no clue what sort of audience he'd be catering to....if, indeed, any at all. The reception to his wares had been positive thus far, but....they had also all been the reactions of his own people. Whom he's already decided he would not attach a fee to his services for.
And if Gaians were differing in their tastes...
He banishes this line of thinking, knowing it will do him no good. Things will be fine, and would be expected to be slow in the beginning. Just....not TOO slow, he hopes.
Leaving the soup alone, he returns to the storefront to finish placing the last of his stock on the displays, only to stop, feeling as if he is no longer alone.
Hesitating, he projects an open and polite greeting to the thin air...

Sailien wasn't the one to come forward. Instead, Ruokei leaned slightly into the door, peering inside shyly as he twisted his hands together, looking around the place before his eyes stopped on Hitsuga. Another porcelain?
Ruokei wonders if he might come in?, he asked shyly, shifting from one foot to the other. He thinks his zurui friend is hiding inside.
Sailien, for his part, narrowed his eyes and remained silent and still. He hadn't planned on introducing Ruokei to anyone else... but perhaps this was for the best. It might drag Ruokei out of his room!

Hitsuga seems a bit surprised at the guest's sudden appearance, but...
Yes, yes of course, he may. Hitsuga says, offering the young one feelings of reassurance even as his eyes scan the room, looking for the 'friend' indicated.
He sees nothing, however....
Hitsuga must apologize to Ruokei, he's not properly open yet so things are still in a bit of disarray. sweatdrop (though, to him, 'disarray', it seems, is the five bottles of perfume lingering on the countertop behind him).

Ruokei stepped forward, blinking a bit as his eyes adjusted to the shade under the shop's ceiling. He paused, tilting his head a bit as he sniffed at the air before frowning. Such an unusual scent throughout this place...
Sailien forgotten for the moment, Ruokei stepped forward, hesitantly reaching for a bottle of perfume and lifting it to peer at it more closely before sniffing at it.
Hitsuga makes smells?, he finally managed, holding the bottle to him. Ruokei thinks they're very pretty smells.

Watching as Ruokei investigates the bottle, seeming to chew on whether to warn him to be careful with it or not before swallowing it back as the boy seems to be handling it gently, he nods.
He, indeed, does. Is young master familiar with perfumes? 3nodding

Ruokei cocked his head to one side, frowning a bit in confusion.
Ruokei doesn't know perfumes... or young masters?
If anything, both of them seemed to confuse him more. And in his dark little corner, Sailien smirked faintly. Yes, giving Ruokei more to think about was definitely in order...

"Well, as far as perfumes go, you couldn't have stumbled upon a better teacher," says a female voice, bright with a smile, as Baikou makes her way slowly into the storefront, coming to investigate the sound of projections.
She chuckles. Indeed, there are few finer perfumers in all the Empire than Hitsuga...

At her appearance and words, he flushes a bit.
Hitsuga believes....Baikou flatters his abilities. sweatdrop He hopes soup is all right for lunch, he wants to use the rest of the vegetables before they start to wilt
Turning his attention back to Ryokei once more, he reaffixes his composure some. What he holds in his hands - the smell in the bottle he's admiring - is called perfume, he explains gently to the boy.
And Hitsuga's trade is taking pleasant scents like fruits, woods, and flowers and bottling them for others to wear.

Ruokei's head tilts a bit, and he lost a bit of his shyness as fascination took over.
Ruokei doesn't understand. Hitsuga's saying that people can wear the smell of wood?
In his mind, the image of rubbing his skin against wood occurred, but he shook his head. Surely if it was as easy as that, there wouldn't be such a thing as Hitsuga's skills? He set down the bottle again, ever so carefully, so that he didn't damage the pretty container, and then turned to look at Baikou, uncertain as he faced her.
Ruokei hopes he didn't disturb the pretty lady?

"Not at all," Baikou says to Ruokei gently, inclining her head to him slightly and thanking him for his concern, projections tinted by modest disagreement with (even amusement at) his flattering description of her.
Perhaps Baikou will watch the soup for Hitsuga? She may not be any great chef, but she can handle soup. And she won't be far, so she can listen in on Hitsuga's explanation of his craft, words she has been eager to hear him project from his own mind.

If Baikou wouldn't mind, that would be most appreciated... projections of thanks addled with embarrassment accompany the thought. It is only that its hard for him to divide his attention between two tasks in different rooms, and moreso now that there is a guest.
And, then again to Ruokei, yes, people can, indeed, wear the smell of wood.
Crossing the room, seeming to know exactly where he's going without having to search, such has he agonized over the arrangement of his shelves, he fetches down a bottle containing a golden-red liquid, bringing it to the boy.
Would Ruokei care to see?

Ruokei's eyes widened at the question, and he nodded slowly. Not only can people wear the smell, they can see the smell? He'd never known! Large eyes dropping to the bottle held in Hitsuga's hands, Ruokei can't quite stop himself from asking a question.
Ruokei wonders... is all woodsmell that pretty?

Smiling warmly to herself -- perhaps this little one will prove a new friend for Hitsuga or even a future student -- Baikou makes her way slowly and carefully to the kitchen, where she takes up the spoon and gives the mixture a stir, helping herself to a little taste.
As much as she wants to butt in and rave on the wonders of Hitsuga's forest bouquets, she holds back, blowing on the spoon gently. It will be interesting to see how Hitsuga describes wood himself...

Woods come in a variety of smells, he says, unstoppering the bottle to let the trapped fragrance out of it. A scent, sweet with the grain of cedar and notes of sandalwood, wafts free of the lip to fill the immediate air as Hitsuga lowers himself to one knee so he is not quite towering over Ruokei as he explains.
There are woods such as these that are fragrant and sweet in their scents of earth, there is pine which is strong and tangy, basalm for its cleaner notes...
May Hitsuga borrow Master Ruokei's wrist for a moment? he politely inquires.
