Have you noticed that water powers and water characters are grossly under represented in most video games? Everybody has fire or lightning abilities but very few characters have water ones.

Of course there are some genres that have more water than fire and some where they're represented equally, but I think that overall the general consensus is that water is being underrepresented in the gaming industry.

Your thoughts?

Hm... I don't have many video games. My bf has an Xbox 360 and I only own 2 games. A game I am thinking of that my boyfriend has is Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe... in Mortal Kombat there's a guy named Sub-Zero who had Ice powers... that's not exactly water, but ice is made of water.... anyways, his powers include: turning into ice, turning you into ice, dropping an ice block on you, making ice and sliding on it.... etc...
You are right about not many water-based characters in video games.

I know that in King of Fighters almost everyone has some sort of fire attack and those that don't just have plain energy attacks (except for the ONE person whom uses lightning). But I have not yet seen a single water user in KOF.

Fighting games seem to mostly thrive of fire.

RPGs tend to have some more equality between the elements. Final Fantasy (all of them) have three attacks for each element (fire, water, lightning, ice). But other RPGs don't have any water powers at all (or at least none that I've learned or unlocked yet). Dragon Quest VIII has six fire based attacks, 3 wind/air and a bunch of other cool (and funny) powers and attacks but the closest thing to water that it comes is ice (which as DJ LAZA pointed out is water), but still...

I never really thought about that before. But at least FF gives water its own summon! (cept in X I don't think it does....)

In X the closes thing to a water summon is Shiva the ice aeon. But that's ice which (in FF at least) is its own element (for some reason stare ).

Yeah...In VIII and IX there's Leviathan, and I think he's in VII, too...

Final Fantasy has never really made much since to me. It just seems that Square keeps trying to make the prettiest game they can centered around the prettiest characters and everything else is just pass of fail.

Maybe it's because it's hard to do much with water powers except get things wet.

I think you're playing the wrong games. Many games I've enjoyed over the years have fire and ice as staples. The black mage character in both Lunar games uses fire and ice. Legend of Dragoon has a water-based dragon, although the main character is a fire element. The Castlevania games almost always have a fire whip and an ice whip. The Seiken Densetsu series has various elements, as does the Atelier Iris series. Pokemon is a no-brainer, and various similar monster-raising games. And if a fighting game has a character who uses fire (as opposed to chi), there is usually an ice to act as a foil. Check out Keith's awesome ice dragon from the Psychic Force opening.

That's not even counting all of the Zelda-esque RPGs that usually have some sort of fire weapon and ice weapon for primitive tactical play. Alundra, for example.

Don't forget there was Super Mario Sunshine where everything revolved around water. Mario had a water pack on his back. It did a good job of fighting evildoers. Plus he cleaned up town xd

But also in allot of video games, ice and water are two different elements (for some reason). Plenty of games have ice but few use actual liquid water. That's my point.

Come to think of it I haven't noticed much water powers.

Then again my gaming has narrowed down a lot.
