Which ending, R1 or R2?
For R1 I didn't really like the ending because it was so ambiguous with everyone asking did Susaku kill Lelouch? Did Lelouch kill Susaku? Did both of them die?
For R2 it was also an ambiguous ending, I'm still not sure if Lelouch is dead or alive!

Well, the final episode of the first season was totally awesome! Yes it left off on a huge cliffhanger, but it gave us reason to keep watching. It would be unforgivable if they hadn't continued on after then, of course.
Then the final of R2. Another great episode, but designed as a firm conclusion. And, no it doesn't leave you wondering if Lelouch is alive. It should be fairly clear that his situation is like Marianne's was, where his mind is inhabiting the crane, or something similar to that.

Marianne could do that because it was her geass's power and I think geass only works on living humans too. I mean no one with geass used it on an animal so the use of geass probably is limited to living people only

I think something probably happened where Lelouch's mind was allowed to stay in C's world, letting him continue to communicate with CC. If you think about it, C's world was almost in his debt for "saving" it from the Sword of Akasha.

I honestly thought that Lelouch died in the end but having many arguements with my friends...I don't think he died. If you watch the last episode of the second season at the very end it shows a person on a cart going down the road, but it doesnt show that persons face. Then it also shows C.C. in the back of it and the last thing she says was "Right?.... Lelouch." Then it ends. So I don't think he died because the person driving the cart could've been him.

I loved both endings actually. And I think it's clear that Lelouch dies at the end of R2. That ending depressed me greatly, after watching the whole show and growing attached to the plot and characters... he had to die, everyone despised him, but really he was still fighting for the cause all along. The whole idea/concept of it just kind of hits me on a sensitive nerve.
