Character Info
Name : Corrina Mabry
Age : 14
Gender : F
Appearance : Corrina's overall apperance is unremarkable, which suits her personality just fine. She is shortish (about 4'8'' although she could still grow a few inches). She has strawberry blonde hair that falls to her waist, but is normally kept back in a single long plait. She has grey-blue eyes, that are slightly too close together and her nose looks like it might have been broken sometime in the past. Her skin is pale (like most redheads) and she has a smattering of light-colored freckles along her nose and all along her arms. While Corrina is not really overweight, one would not classify her as skinny. She usually wears greens, blues and browns if she has a choice of fabric color.

Personality : Corrina is friendly, kind, but slightly on the annoying side. She also does not tend to fit into the social "norm," often misinterpreting people's words (especially when they use sarcasm). Wit is certainly not Corrina's strong point and so she doesn't make jokes very often and tries (for the most part) not to draw attention to herself.

Because of her difficulty reading people she tries very hard to make up for it by getting along with and please others to the point where she is constantly asking for affirmation and/or clarification of some kind. Her feelings get hurt easily, and so she doesn't take even constructive critisizm very well. Despite this, she also has a hard time taking compliments. This may stem from her childhood growing up with a critical father, who was rarely pleased with anything, so kind words were few and there was often good reason not to trust them. Because of this she has very few friends and has difficultly trusting people sometimes, even though she longs to trust.

Corinna values her time she can spend away from the strain of living with her father and so she will often visit a shady tree away from everything else and curl up with a book or some needlework. She loves being where she can see, hear and smell the living things around her, particularly birdsong. She tries to immitate them on the small wooden flute she keeps with her most of the time. It was a gift from her late grandfather, whittled by his own hands.

She is very curious and likes to know about things. If something strikes her fancy, she will often spend many hours trying to find out more about it, either questioning people or doing her own research in whatever way she feels she needs to. And while she tries to avoid making waves, there are some things she is very passionate about, and without meaning to can get rather outspoken, opinionated and loud compared to her normal character.

History : Corrina was born in the bustling central part of the town surrounding Jaradin and spent her early years there. She shared her home with her father, mother and younger sister, Janelle. Her father was the son of a merchant and worked in his father's stall, helping him sell his goods. When Corrina was nine, her father inherited the business when her grandfather became too old and frail to run the stall any longer. After Corrina's father took over and made some changes, the business started to dramatically increase its profits and he decided to move his family a little outside of town where it was quieter and there was more open land.

In the years after they moved, Corrina grew and began to learn several things. One of them was that she truly enjoyed being outside and learning about the things outdoors. She could spend all day wandering among the trees, working in a garden, or just sitting in the grass enjoying the feel of the wind and the sounds of the birds. The second revelation was that her father, while never physical, abused her mother (and sometimes Corrina and her sister) with his words. He had been doing this since Corrina was small, it just took maturity to recognize it for what it was. The third thing piggybacked on the second. She could protect her mother and sister, to an extent, if she got her father to direct her words at herself. In fact, she even began to challenge him, trying to get him to face what he was doing and change his ways.

It was during one of these altercations, in which Corrina was challenging her father that it happened. They were yelling at each other (the only person Corrina ever yelled at), and Corrina was crying, trying to get him to see how his words hurt and how they were unjustifed. Because she was young, she did not have the wisdom to see that although her intentions were good, her efforts were only making the problem worse. Enraged by her challenges and finally pushed over the edge, her father snapped and beat her.

Having never hurt any of his family physically before, Corrina's father felt deep remorse for what he had done, but Corrina was never the same. Soon after this incident, manifestation of her Daemling began to occur and she realized that she could not protect her mother, if her mother was unwilling to protect herself. It was then that she decided to leave home and seek her fortune at Jaradin.

reserved for a pre-tragedy RP: in which there is exposition
Corrina stomped out of the house, a book in her hand and a leather bag slung over her shoulder, with her needlework, a handful of dried fruit and half a loaf of bread inside. She did not intend to return until just before dark. Almost without thinking, her feet took her down the familiar path that led to her private sanctuary; a large oak tree with widespread branches, pleanty of shade, and a nearby stream that ran with cool, clean water.

These frustrated outings were becoming more and more common as Corrina grew older. They usually occured after she and her father had engaged in a row that involved a lot of yelling and hurt feelings on both of their parts. Such was the occasion today. He had said something demeaning about her mother's (Constance's) ability to follow directions and maintain the house properly. As had become common, Corrina had stepped into the situation in defense of her mother and things had escalated from there. Now she needed to put some space between them so they could both cool off.

As Corrina had matured, she noticed things in her family that she hadn't been able to grasp when she was younger, such as her father's mistreatment of her mother and their growing indifference towards one another. He belittled her and treated her not as his peer and partner, but as though he had a third daughter; and a unitelligent one at that. There were double standards and little to no praise or affection were offered to balance or make up for the negativity.

As she got old enough to make sense of some of these things, Corrina began to ask her mother about them and soon unintentionally became her mother's confidant. Constance had never had any friends and having an outlet for her pain and frustration was somethiWell Corinna had always been one to follow the letter of the law and seeing these in.
