OH SHIZ! DAT SHIZ LOOKZ SO SICK!

You all know that this car would be considered stylish looking if it was made in Japan and had a Japanese emblem on it.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 07, 2009 8:04 am

Nah, I don't think so. Its still s**t ugly with or with out whatever badge you want to put on the car.
The car would probably look a lot better if the headlights where further apart from each other.
No offense, but your car looks like the stupid second cousin.

Because this, this, this, this, this, and this look so awesome? rofl

Don't get me started on how "sick" the Corollas look. Nobody gave a ********, and would've given them the same non-notice that they give the same era Accord hatchbacks with the flippy lights, until the Dumb-rifto crap came around.

I'm not saying the SC2 is a good looking car, but I know that if it were made by some Japanese company, it'd be "stylish" and OFF DA HOOK YO! The point is that the import TOONer culture would eat up anything with a Japanese logo on it and think it's so cool. Case in point, Acura's current generation of crap.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 07, 2009 10:54 am

Hm... I understand your point, but I'd have to agree with the idea that the SC2 is and always was ugly. It's flipping grotesque, actually. You could tell me it was made by fluorescent angels high up in the heavens, with assistance from pixies and Santa's elves and I'd still throw up in my mouth every time I saw one.

That might only encompass most of the current generation of young "fast and furious, total-JDM buying aka STOCK PARTS marked up 400% that you can get at the junker's for twenty bucks even" punks that you see on the street wouldn't it?

PLEASE for gawd's sake please don't tell me the young people in the US are this way, because its pretty scaring to think of people being born with only 1/4 of a brain.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 10, 2009 3:20 am

You know, I never got the point of wanting to spend a bunch of money to "go JDM." I guess it's just another TOONer culture thing. Proves that they'll think anything "Super Street" or "Import Tuner" says is cool, is cool.

What really gets me is that they will go for ANYTHING they see either on the internet or in the mass media, particularly the internet. Whether it be good or bad engineering be damned, as long as it carries the proper branding it must have been made by the Hand of God himself. I've looked at parts made by ARC, Tomei, Greddy and HKS and there are so many issues with them it is not even funny. Yet, these fellows fork out tens of thousands of dollars mindlessly for parts that are in ways worse than the factory stuff.

Where is the bloody sense in that?

The Focus coupe looks okay... I'd dare say the tC looks better, though. But, the Eclipse? Who wouldn't rather have one of those?

Joey Crash
Mitsubishi's Eclipse? NO BLOODY WAY. That bloody engine is a reciprocating disaster factory. The ones back in the day, you'd need to have an annual budget in place to maintain the lump three to four years after you've bought the car. The later-model 4G63T from the Evo's are alright, but the E1-3 engine, which is basically the same as the Eclipse one, suffers from the same chronic disease.

When they're running they're BLOODY good(massive weight aside) but when something fails, you're looking at the start of a chain reaction.

Quakes21
I suppose you're right about the Eclipse, my brother use to own a GSX and a GS and he had trouble with them both all the time.

F R I V O L O U Z
I'm talking about the new one.

Does it have the same motor as its predecessors? I thought it was just a basic, reliable four cylinder with no power.

Joey Crash
What engine is in the latest one? confused

That God-forsaken piece of ugly was the worst modern day car I had the "pleasure" (read: "painful torture") of driving. It comes with a 2.4L 4G69 if you're asking about the 4-banger.

Super Panda454
Doesn't look bad from that angle. Is it AWD or WWD (Wrong wheel drive)?

Wrong wheel drive, and seriously? Look at the ******** door and window for crying out loud! The side profile isn't too bad, but look at it from these angles.

I test drove the 2.4L back in 2007 when I was looking for a new beater, and we actually had a 2009 GT (3.8L V6) around the building for a month. I drove it for a day, running errands.

1. Interior room: It has the dimensions of a mid-size coupe on the outside, but an incredibly claustrophobic interior. The measurements say it's incredibly wide, but that doesn't do anything for you when you can't straighten your back without hitting your head. The back seat? JOKE!

2. Seating position: The steering wheel's column is very sort and stubby, and you can't pull it out. I'm not incredibly tall or large (you've all seen pictures, and I'm only 5 ft. 10 in. / 178 cm), and even though my legs are a bit longer in proportion to the rest of my body than most dudes, I wasn't the only one to complain that I had to bow my legs out since I had to scoot the seat up to reach the steering wheel with my arms. One of my female coworkers once said, "Forget driving this thing with a skirt." This is a car for people with stubby legs.

3. Performance: The 2.4L was a slug, even for a 4-banger. You don't put a 160 hp/tq engine in with a 3,300+ lbs. car and call it a sport coupe. The GT was a lot quicker in the straights IF you could get it to hook up (had some real torque smile ), but just as horrible in the turns. It rolled like Rick, had a ginormous turning circle (I had to do a three-point job at the Staples parking lot, because of it), and plowed more than my old Accord V6.

4. Outward visibility: rofl

Sacrilegious as this may sound, I'd rather own a Scion tC. It's a more entertaining and comfortable drive (except in the straight), and you can actually do something in the back seat. Oh, and their so common that nobody cares to look anymore. Unlike with the Eclipse, you get looks of disgust.

Quakes21
The turning radius is ridiculous, but I find a lot of vehicles now days have that issue, but a coupe shouldn't though. On paper the optional Rockford Fosgate audio system seems like the only neat thing in that car, unfortunately I haven't ever heard it, all the eclipses I sat in came with the base audio system.

Super Panda454
I don't think its a bad looking car.
If it was AWD and maybe made from fiberglass it might be much nicer?

Millefune
The door kills it. It's got funky lines on it (especially the yellow one Friv posted), the mirror is way out of place, and the tri-panel window is a Lotus Espirit wannabe failure. The headlights look as if they were confused whether or not to make them sleek, or polygonal... and just couldn't make a decision. The fog-lights look like they're ricer add-ons and clash with the rest of the front. And the front in general is just plain shaped ugly. Look at that nose/grill! Looks like a jockstrap with a cup bulging out. No thanks. The rear has ricer Altezza-fail lights (see the current Nissan Altima or the ******** Altezza/IS300 on how to do it right), and resembles a squashed New Beetle.

F R I V O L O U Z
Yes... Yes... Yes, and... Yes. Mille's right about everything he just said about the way the thing looks. I retain, though, that it looks slightly better than a Scion tC.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Let the flaming begin.

F R I V O L O U Z
The Altima coupe looks deformed, too. God, why? Why is the entry level performance market full of horrid front wheel drive messes on wheels?

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Millefune
I think the Scion looks better, because it's so ******** plain, there's nothing offensive about it (except the ugly optional TYC tails they had available some years). It's modern day Toyota to a T. I'd rather have a plain, soulless appliance than an uggo with a little soul.

I'm with you on the Altima not being all that good looking. It's like the 350Z and G35 tried to have a baby, but since they're related... it came out all ******** up. The grill is way ******** up.

Millefune
I take it back. I'll take the Eclipse over the Scion. I will never buy a Toyota product.

I do concede that the majority of people would think that the Saturn would look good if it were called a Nissan or something else of that realm. But personally, I don't judge a car by its maker or biases of people, but by the content of its very own character despite what the past was or the certain automaker. I don't think the yellow sentra looks bad, but at the same time I don't the the new Focus does either. The civics look like crap, and they always have. The 240sx isn't necessarily pleasing to the eye(besides the 2001 Silvia is in my opinion), but its one of the few rwd cars out there that were lucky not fwd.

So if a car is ugly its ugly, Nissan or Honda or whatever else cannot change that. The new Camaro is a excellent design I must say, the new Mustang is alright, could be better. The Nissan 370z is good, a drastic improvement over the 350z, which in a way reminds me of the newer Eclipses due to it having a big rump. And a design that I really like is the new Mazda 3, I wish people will stop complaining about it having a smiley face. It actually shows character in the car, and I think more companies should make bold design cues like that for their cars as well.

That was my main point at the beginning of the thread. It's folly, as you said, and that's why I classify the phenomenon as something "TOONer."

The new Mazda3 and Mazda6 look ******** great! The 3 is so ******** adorable, I want one so all the girls can go "Awww! It's so cuuuute!" I mean, if it makes me, an old man think of fluffy bunnies, I know that the girls like it. The RX-8 face lift looks good too, and the same goes for the Miata's. Mazda is kicking major a** in the looks department to me. I just ******** wish they were American so I can appease my morals to help my society until this economic disaster is over. I really love the Mazda6 though. Best looking midsized sedan out today... next to the Jaguar XF. I would not be ashamed if I drove a Mazda6 around.

As for the yellow Sentra, it looks like it's built out of Legos.

Mazda really is doing excellent as far as designs. I have more respect for them than any other Japanese company, and as you said, if they were American it would make everything 100x better. They make the exterior look good and the interior is wonderful, especially on the Mazdaspeed 3. Despite the fact that Mazda doesn't lead in miles per gallon, I would give that up for a more spirited drive in a Mazda 3 rather than own a bland, no personality having Corolla.

I know im a little late in the conversation, but just going back to the whole JDM stock parts thing, it is present in the Euro scene too. It's not uncommon for people to want all OEM parts on a GTI or a 2004 R32, since there were/are features on the European models that werent released stateside. Same goes for the BMW M3 CSL. It didnt come out in the US so some people go to pretty extreme lengths to get the carbon fiber roof, trunk and kidney air vents (among other mods) that come stock in Europe just so it looks official or whatever lol. It's weird, but I cant deny that the M3 CSL is awesome biggrin

nevermind...theres no carbon fiber kidneys i guess.....idk lol

the 240 is very differnt from that sc2 the sharpness of the front end the tail lights the concave doors. i find the 240 to have much softer lines.
and much to the point ugly cars are ugly cars no matter what country they come from.
case in point, the subaru SVX.

Ugly no matter how you see it it looks like they tried to make a dsm (which i dont find to be very attractive either.) and failed.

The point is/was that, unlike you who can see ugly for ugly, even if a car is plain and/or ugly, if it has a Japanese nameplate the kidz (again, not you) will eat it all up.
