School uniform made from recycled bottles
Marks & Spencer is to start selling a school uniform which is entirely made out of recycled rubbish.
The blazers, skirts and trousers are all made from plastic bottles which are washed and melted before being refined and woven into a polyester.
Shoes are even made from chopped up waste leather shavings which would normally be sent to landfill.
A M&S spokesperson said of the range: "Using recycled materials helps to conserve the earth's natural resources and protect the environment for future generations."
Primark are expected to launch a rival uniform anytime now ... it will be made by gluing 75 crisp packets together.*
The range is part of the store's 'Plan A' eco-initiative to cut back on its carbon footprint.
Speaking yesterday Sir Stuart Rose, Chairman of Marks & Spencer, said: "The economic downturn has made our targets more challenging but we don’t think this is a reason to compromise, or an excuse to not deliver on our commitments.
* Yes in a bid to save the environment we are recycling our jokes now. (See Next Post)

Women's suit made from recycled rubbish
9 April 2009
A department store has started selling a women's suit which is made from recycled rubbish.
The £55 jacket and trousers are said to be made entirely from 50 plastic bottles which could have ended up in a landfill.
Instead bottles are stripped of their labels, washed and melted before being refined and woven into a polyester.
The soft but hard-wearing material is then used to make the suit which makers promise will not leave you looking like a discarded Coke bottle.
Primark are expected to launch a rival suit anytime now ... it will be made by gluing 75 crisp packets together.
A spokesperson for Debenhams said: "The jacket doesn't compromise on luxury in it's tailoring.
"The fabric is acquired from recycled plastic bottles, an innovative process which saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions.
"Bottles recycled in this way, do not end up buried in land fill sites, so by buying this suit you are stylishly supporting the environment.
