It had been a couple of years since that kid from Vault 101 hit the scene and then disappered, probablly still rescueing mankind from his own destruction. Kid did alot to help the folks of the Capital Wasteland and was mentioned on the radio all the time. The kid helped start the Purifier and helped drive the Enclave back out west. Then without saying, just disappered. Every now and then, we get a report from GNR about the Kid's whereabouts and sometimes you'll even get to hear a story about one of the many thing the kid did.
This story though takes place two years after 101 left the area, wondering the Wastes. A group of miners had stumbled apon a small weapons cache while mining for resorces in the Mountains. One of the Miners is a Guy named Harkins but everyone just called him Hark for short since he got on everyone's case if they were foolin around in the Mines. Harkins was a Big man with a stern face but was kind towards everyone. We wore a Miners uniform along with a resprerator and miners hat while working and the Uniform when he wasn't. They were all walking with afew other people headed off towards Fort Indipendance. The Outcasts wern't the nicest bunch in the Wastes but if you had the stuff, they'd trade valuable suppies for them.
" So what all did we get from it? " asked one of the younger miners by the name of Billy. " Couple of Laser Pistols, some energy cells, and some old power armor scraps. " Harkins said, looking out over everyone, checking for danger. Raiders don't bother with large and heavily armed groups like the one they were in but he had to keep an eye out for Bugs and Ghouls. Both were as mean as they were Ugly.
" Think we'll get enough for it all? " Billy asked, looking back at their cargo. " Probally get a couple Medpacks and other various thing. Not to much but we'll get by untill the Caravans come through. " Harkins replied.

When I wrote about my "future dreams", how many years have passed since I was my old self? While swinging between reality and idealization, my burning passion disappeared
I want to fly with proud wings like the black swallowtail butterfly Don't say it's lame, I want that kind of life... "Look! Look! I found another cellphone, Saphy!" came the childlike cry from across the barren hills. Saph stood up anf looked about, following Dollfie's happy giggles to where she sat playing with a broken cellphone. "Oh come on, it doesn't even work," Saph murmured almost impatiently, looking down at the girl then around them. She loved Dollfie dearly, but sometimes the girl was just trouble. If they weren't careful, then they'd get caught by some of the creatures out here. "Oh look! It turned on! Hmmm... g-g-games..." Dollfie murmured, sounding out the word on the screen. "Saph, what's.. P-pa-pacman?" she asked, looking up at the blue haired girl, but Saph didn't answer. She was thinking about their circumstances, their past. They had both been part of Vault 04, one of the first Vaults to be built, a Vault used to test the theory of cryogenics. She didn't remember her life before waking up, but that was because her brain had been tampered with. All their brains had been tampered with. Over the past century or so computers had been meddling with the minds of every citizen put into cryogenic storage there, seeking to make them telepathic in one way or another. But she didn't remember that time, only remembered waking up. She had been ten when she had been forced into the capsule, and appeared ten when she was roughly pulled out. Apparently some of the capsules hadn't worked properly, or those whose minds had been ravaged so severely as to cause them to break out had come to live in the Vault. The still working cryogenic pods had been held sacred, until one by one they were opened. But she had been kept locked inside hers, treated as some sort of goddess for her frail beauty and youthful appearance. The youngest human in the Vault. But one day, nine years ago she had been pulled roughly from the capsule, thrown dripping and naked to the floor before an angry and needy mob of men, staring at her hungrily. But something had awoken within her, a strong killing power and an expert knowledge of weaponry and death. A day later she emerged from the Vault, still dragging the dismembered arm of a man, blinking in the pale sunlight, covered in blood. The Vault was a mess of corpses and limbs, no one left alive. She had used everything that had come to her, knives, guns, pieces of glass, and a telekinesis that had come with the warrior's knowledge. Shaking her head she looked down at Dollfie and smiled. The girl was so innocent.. Suddenly she felt a wave of fierce love and a desire to protect wash over her and she ruffled the girl's hair, receiving a giggle for her efforts.

It wasn't long before the group arrived at Fort Independece, the main stronghold of the Outcast. Brotherhood members that disbanded soon after Elder Lyons launched a Campain against the Super Mutants in the D.C. ruins. Two guard's in pitch black power armor opened the chainlink fence and allowed them through. The gate closed behind them and they stood out front for abit before an officer came out of the Base. He too was wearing Black power armor. " So what do the local Scavengers have for us today? " he asked, looking over their Cargo.
Harkins grabbed a large chest from the Brahmin carrying everything and set it down at the officers feet. " Look through it and grab what ya like. " Billy said from the back of the group. The officer bent down and rumaged through it, taking out almost everything except for a broken laser pistol and some depleted energy cells. " This isn't all that great but every little bit helps I suppose. You have anything eles? " He asked, standing back up and looking at Harkin through his helmet. " Well, we were hoping to use this when we get attacked out there in the Wastes but it seems you could use this more than us. " Harkins replied. He rumaged through the Brahmins packs and slowly and carefully, pulled out a Mini Nuke.
" Yeah, now this is something we could use. Alright, I'll have the Papers drawn up and I'll get you folks situated with your Supplies. " the Officer said, putting everything into the chest and walking back into the Base. They were again left alone for alittle bit before he came back with the Chest. " Everythings there like you wanted. Hope you bring us some better things next time. " he said and escorted them back off the grounds.
" We didnt get much for the equipment but we sure did get loaded with that Mini Nuke. Can't wait to get back into town and get some nice cold Water. " Billy said, laughing to himself as he did. " Yeah, Water's on me tonight so everyone drink up. " Harkins replied. The Miners all yelled out in glee and horayed harkins.

I want to fly with proud wings like the black swallowtail butterfly Don't say it's lame, I want that kind of life... Saph looked down from their perch on the hilltop, ignoring the little sounds coming from the game Dollfie was struggling to play. Well, she couldn't say 'struggling'. Doll had a power like hers, well, it was alike in that it came form her mind... She could talk to machines and fix them with the merest of tools. It had come in handy more than once. She had found the child sitting next to her mother's corpse outside of The Burg. The mother looked as if she had tried to escape and been taken down by the dogs, though why Doll had been left alone she had never understood. The girl hadn't talked for months until finally she began chattering away at any little gadget she found. Soon after she made herself a little artificial eye, stealing parts from the armor of Brotherhood corpses. She referred to it as her best friend, which made Saph a little jealous. "They took all their toys to the big house," Dollfie remarked sadly. "Well, are they bringing back water?" Saph inquired. "Water doesn't talk, silly," Doll laughed and Saph indulged in a rare smile. "Well, do they have anything useful?" "Some laser thingies that you like. the things that go 'pew pew, pew pew'," the younger girl responded. "Do they work?" "One died, it should be buried, but the other is crying, it wants to be fixed." "Hmm... That's the one we'll take then when we get some supplies," Saph mused. "Saphy... why can't we live with the others?" Doll asked, looking up at her blue haired protector. Saph was startled by the question but sighed. "We're dangerous to them, Doll... We're mutants, but we just don't look like other mutants. People get scared of things like us."

The Miners were almost back home when a Brotherhood Patroll passed them. They would have continued on if Harkins didn't notice that one of them was limping. " Hey, you guys okay? " Harkins yelled out to them. They stopped and turned and looked at the Group. " We had alittle run in with some super muties back acouple miles back. They messed up my appretence's leg up before he killed them. Wer'r heading back to the Citidel right now. " One of them said.
" Here, we got afew extra. Use it. " Harkins said, handing the Paladin a medkit. " That's mighty nice of you Waster. Too bad everyone's not like you. Then we save alot more Ammo. " he said, chuckling to himself. Harkins gave a weak smile before returning to the Group. " Hey! Thanks for the Pack. I'll make sure the Brotherhood repays you for these Actions. " the Paladin cried out before he started working on the Other's leg.
-----------
It took them abit but they finally got back to Megaton. Megaton is a city that was built in a crater of an unexploded Atomic bomb. They even had a Church of Loonies that worshipped it as a God. Megaton was a odd place with alot of Odd people but thats what made it so special.
The giant gate closed behind them and all the miners except harkins walked down to the Bar. Harkins went to the shack he shared with the others to take alittle breather to himself. He opened and closed the door behind him, walked across the room and fell face first into his Cot. He lazily undid his boots and let them drop to the floor.

Dollfie had been able to get them inside the walls of Megaton thanks to her abilities and the help of Saph's telekinesis. They crept through Megaton, following the whispers of the machines. A group of people could be heard coming closer and they ducked into a building. Dollfie looked around, noting the man lying on the bed nearby, but Saph's attention was focused on listening through the door. Doll crawled over, looking at Hawkins. She'd seen men before, but not up close, Saph never let her near them. Her eye roamed over him while her artificial eye took in the data. "He looks funny," she murmured. "Dollfie, get over here," Saph whispered fiercely.

Harkins was laying on his side, his back turned to the Girl. Thats when the sounds of Gunshots ripped through the Air. Didn't bother Harkins though since he heard it atleast twenty times a day. Usually a drunk or out of towner starting trouble with the Townsfolk. He just sigh and went back to sleep.
Meanwhile of the side of of town, Two bouncers just got done breaking up a fight between a group of Mercs. They were all drunk and they were all armed to the teeth. That's just begging for trouble right there. They were disarmed and tied up, sitting outside till the sheriff arrived. The only one watching over them was Deputy Weld, the sheriffs Protectron. Although they look weak, one or two hits with their Lasers and you'll fall to the ground.
A group of the Miners came out of the Bar afew minutes after and walked up to the Gate, heading out to the Mines.

I want to fly with proud wings like the black swallowtail butterfly Don't say it's lame, I want that kind of life... Doll shuffled across the floor and quietly they snuck out of the barracks and followed the machine's voices. First was the water. It was easy enough to find, harder to get a hold of. They found their way into the water filtration plant and Saph was happy to see, like most plants, there was only one man working here. "Dollfie, you know what to do," she said quietly and the young girl nodded. Bowing her head she asked one of the machines to begin to malfunction, or.. 'play a trick' on the man. Suddenly something clanked in the background and the man stood up from where he was sitting and rushed over. They could hear him cursing in the background as they crept over to where the fresh water was distributed. She pulled something from her pocket, it looked almost like a plastic bag, but she hooked it up to the tap and watched as it filled. It was a bag alright, but the plastic was extremely durable and filled out into a jug, once filled with water. She puled the stopper from her pocket and closed the jug, then slipped it into the container on her back that usually held the odds and ends they found out in the wastelands.

" If it's not one damn thing in here, it's another! " the man yelled as he came back from the Back. The man wasn't actually a man but instead, he was a Ghoul. He was once a man a long time ago but the Radition chewed him up and spat him right back out. Ghoul's looked alot of zombies in most cases. Their skin would peel off and expose muscle and bone, their hair was sometimes funny colors, and each one had a Raspy voice.
This particular ghoul has greenish brown hair and only in little tuffs on his head. the rest was either muscle or bone. Alot of the skin on his face had come off and his nose was missing. " ******** smoothskins put me in charge of this place by myself. Only cause I'm good with Machines and they don't wanna see my face. Should have just stayed in Underworld like everyone told me too. " he said to himself, sitting back down and flipping on the radio.

I want to fly with proud wings like the black swallowtail butterfly Don't say it's lame, I want that kind of life... Saph ignored the man. They had their water, it was time to get out of here. She reached out to take Dollfie's hand, except Dollfie wasn't there. In a panic she looked up only to see the young girl standing behind the Ghoul with a large wrench held high over her head, a look of pure terror with a hint of madness revealed in her eye. Saph cried out but it was too late. Doll brought the wrench down on the hapless Ghoul's cranium, and even as he slumped sideways and fell out of the chair she continued to mangle him ruthlessly. Saph went over to her and forced her to stop, crying out her name. finally she removed the wrench form the girl's grasp and tossed it aside. It landed with a heavy metal clunk on the floor and skittered away. Holding Doll close she crooned soft words to the child and stroked her hair, assuring her it was alright. Taking the edge of her jacket she wipe the blood form the child's face and hands, handing her the cellphone they had found earlier. This would pacify her until they got back home. Now, they still needed those lasers, but she didn't know if it was worth the risk of getting caught at this point.

The ghoul just layed their, groaning in pain as he layed there in pain. Just before the Girls could get out though, Harkins opened the door and looked through. " Hey Gus! You around here Gus?! " he cried out, closing the door behind him as he started through the Plant. Luckily for the girls, Harkins couldn't see them with all the Pipes shooting up and everywhere.
Gus gave out one deep groan before collapsing again. Harkins barely heard it and started rushing through the jumble of Pipes. " Hey Gus, you Okay back there? Hit your head on another Pipe? "

Saph cursed as the man entered and went to the Ghoul. "Damnit, now there's going to be problems," she muttered to herself. She pulled her blades from the holster she had made at the small of her back and approached the man from behind. "Get up, slowly," she hissed, one blade at his throat, the other against his back, over a lung. She knew where to take him out, and how, should he turn on her.

Gus got up slowly like she wanted and stood there. " ******** this! " he yelled as he pulled his head forward and then slammed it backwards, hitting her head and cause he head to hit one of the overhead Pipes really hard. " Hark, Help! " Gus screamed again, his raspy voice echoing through the Plant.
There were some footsteps quickly approching them before Harkins rounded the Corner with a 10mm Pistol. It was more like a BB gun than anything but it would kill someone with a shot or two to the head. He had it pointed striaght at the Blue haired girl and then lowered it slightly. " You two get the ******** out of here and don't let me catch you around here again! " he yelled down at them, pointing towards the door.

I want to fly with proud wings like the black swallowtail butterfly Don't say it's lame, I want that kind of life... Dollfie snarled at the man and would have launched herself at him had Saph not caught her and held her close. "Fine, we're gone," she growled. "You better drop your gun though, if you don't want your hand blown off. If I know this one, then that thing is going to jam and blow up in about thirty seconds," she muttered, picking Dollfie up and dashing for the exit. Once outside she set Doll down. "Find an exit, now, Dollfie," she demanded. The girl looked dazed, staring into the cellphone screen. Saph snapped her fingers in front of the smaller girl's face until she got her attention and made the request again.
