User ImageA bright blue sky dotted with only a few sparse wispy clouds made for a perfect day of flying. Clifton loved any excuse to stretch his wings and feel the rush of the wind through his colorful feathers and fur. He had no destination in mind. He simply needed to move; to complete his search. The search for the one - the one to complete him.

He had been looking a long time. Since before he had completely filled out his adult body, he knew he was searching for something. He wanted a companion to share his life with, but he wasn't going to settle for the first kirin to come along. Sure there had been many who wanted to be with him, but he wasn't satisfied with what he'd found so far. He wanted the perfect mare, someone who would contrast with him, yet at the same time meshed together so well that it would be hard to ever separate the two. He knew his expectations were set high, but at the same time, he knew he was right in doing so. For himself, and for his family.

He sometimes felt despair at the thought of his loneliness. Sure, he had two sisters, and a pair of loving parents, but that wasn't enough. He wanted to have his own children someday, and wouldn't stop until he had the prospect within his grasp.

It was here in the clouds that sometimes he forgot this quest of his, and relinquished his mind to the freedom of just enjoying the exhilaration that the flight brought to him.

Today, the clear sky gave way to an unhindered view of the ground that was speeding by beneath him. He happened to glance down, and spotted something very out of the ordinary. Something white against the green and brown backdrop of the land. Normally, he wouldn't even bother with such a thing, but it intrigued him that something could stand out so much in this environment. He had to investigate.

He slowed his wing beats, and began to descend. He made sure to direct his landing close to the magnificent creature, but not close enough to startle it. He landed in a field of poppies, on the other side of a grove of saplings separating the two creatures. His landing scattered the little flowers as he landed roughly, tickling his nose with their scent. He had yet to master the art of a graceful landing. He only hoped he hadn't scared it away.

Once on the ground, he tucked his wings against his side, and discreetly made his way towards the other side of the small grove.

The clear blue sky had beckoned to those hiding away in the shadows to come out and play. The breeze had whispered sweet secrets and the sun promised to bask those whom ventured forth from hiding with warmth. It was, of course, the perfect day. The perfect day to be completed without a companion once more.

For as long as she could remember Kaze had always been alone, catching only glimpses of her kind in the past. Always too afraid to make the first approach, worried she might make an unfriendly gesture. After all, she never had one to look up to and mimic. She acknowledged her lack of know-how when it came to social acceptances with a heavy heart. Still she would never let it get her down especially on a day such as this.

Kaze had awoken quite early in the day brushing aside the unease of waking alone as she stretched her long languid legs. Rising she stumbled once, managing to pull a fore hoof from between the roots she had stuck it in, before shaking her mind free from the grip of sleep. Peering up through the sheltering canopy of her favorite tree she felt her face split into a grin. It was the just the sort of day to finish up her exploring.

She was still slightly new to this area having only wandered into it a few nights back. Ever since she had woken early enough to go nose around before filling her belly and taking care of other needs. "I think I'll head to the field I saw last night." Kaze said turning to the tree and giving it a gentle nudge followed by a playful whap with her tail. "Will you still be standing when I return?"

It was a strange habit, she knew, talking with the trees and the plants and the occasional rock. There was little to do about it as she felt the need to speak from time to time. Talking with them all did little to ease her loneliness but in the end every little bit helped.

Whapping the tree one last time for good measure she started out toward the field in a rather slow gait stretching out each limb elegantly before picking up the speed. Trot turned into canter and canter turned into full in a full out gallop, hooves kicking up loose sod behind her. Excitement raced coursed through her body like electricity as she raced toward a bush just dead ahead. Picking up her fore limbs she pushed from the ground sailing over the opposing bush with glee, tail tip whapping at the top of it for good measure.

Kaze landed on the other side hard, hooves digging into the dirt to stop her momentum, with a snort. How she wished she had been born with wings... No time for depressing thoughts like that! Looking up she gazed in awe. There were little flowers everywhere! Blue eyes widened slightly as she took a few careful steps into the field minding the flowers that brushed her limbs.

Stunning... Was her only thought. Ears perked at the sudden sound of heavy wing beats causing her to turn her head this way and that in wonder. Birds normally didn't sound that heavy when they flew overhead or at least that's what she always thought. Hearing the thud of a less then graceful landing she jumped in surprise and tensed, ready to run. The odds of it being a predator where nil as she scented none near by but one could never be too careful.

Clifton advanced slowly, not wanting to scare the creature. He made his way through the dense trees and came to the edge where he could see through the branches. He saw the beautiful white creature standing there, looking tense, as if ready to bolt for safety. He noticed the shape and build, and knew that it was female kirin. 'She's beautiful, but why does she look so scared? She must have heard my landing. I should let her know I'm not a threat.' he thought to himself. He didn't want to make any sudden movements, afraid it would startle her more.

He slowly poked his head through the vegetation, followed swiftly by the rest of his body. He held his head high, proudly as a peacock kirin should. He watched her with careful eyes, hoping to convey a sense of safety. "Hello there." he said, in a friendly voice.

Kaze felt, for the lack of a better word, quite hopeless. There was little cover provided in the flowered field and while she could easily turn tail back into the forest she worried it grant more confusion then protection. It would also be easier for whatever beast it may be to cut her off unexpectedly. Oh she just couldn't fathom what to do or where to run. She took a shaky step back, followed by another, eyes widening as the small grove before her began to quake.

It was when the being on the other side emerged abruptly that she leapt back startled, heart rattling in her ribcage as if begging for release. She took in the form of the other, eyes still wide, with her jaw dropping in slack. It was instinct that kept her rooted to the spot now and instinct that exclaimed quite firmly that this other was a male. It became hard to focus the more of him her vision took in and it wasn't until later she would discover how embarrassed she'd be by her first words to him. "Pretty bird." Kaze murmured her voice filled with awe.

He watched the female scramble to get away from him. He chuckled lightly at her words, 'pretty bird'. "I mean you no harm, so please do not be alarmed. I saw you from the sky, and had to get a closer look. Your beauty astounded me, even from the air. You are very beautiful. May I know your name?"
