I have been playing clarinet since 7th grade, and I marched for one year for high school band my 8th grade year..

Though for my 9th grade year my family and I moved to another school, and I decided band would be just too awkward for me my freshman year. I'm naturally a kind of shy person, and it takes me a while to adjust. ( I have social anxiety problems)

So because I'm going into my sophomore year, and I haven't played for an entire year. I decided to give band another go. While I had the intention of going into being a marching clarinet again, my friend talked me into trying out for color guard.

So I made it. Now every Monday, Wed, and Tues we have band conditioning. Where we have to run, lift weights, and exercise. I'm not really strong at all, and I'm very tiny..So I was very embarrassed about the whole situation, and at the end of the day I was very depressed about it.

I feel so noob about everything now. With my playing, and especially with color guard. (im from a much smaller school and things were different..) The freshman band members were all doing better than I was!

I don't really know anyone either...any tips on how I can feel more comfortable doing all the silly stuff we have to do for conditioning?

Try doing some conditioning on your own, maybe do a few push ups every night, or go running on the weekends. That might make the conditioning easier, and make you stronger.

It sounds like what has you worried the most is that you don't know anyone. So the first step would be to try to get to know the others first. Being new is always hard, especially if people are shy.
But one thing is you shouldn't worry so much about the freshman doing something better than you. Everyone has different skill levels so trying to compare won't help you. Just work hard and try your best. That way, you can feel good about what you're doing. And hopefully, the other people will see that too.
If you're worried about the silly stuff, remember that you're not the only one doing it. You're all working on it in a group. So just try to have fun with it and remember that everyone else is doing it too. Getting to know the people and being comfortable around all of them may take some time but if you try your best and try to get to know the other people, I'm sure everything will work out for you. Is your friend who talked you into colorguard there as well? Maybe she can help you where you're having trouble. At least you know someone there, right?

Well with the clarinet problems, just get a private instructor =]
I know how it feels to be in a small band and then be around people in the bigger bands XP (Mid-state... and College clinics). Trust me, an instructor will help and it prolly won't cost that much unless you get a college professor.

Try playing infront of people or play in a public place (Hell, I practiced for my solo while waiting for my plane at the airport lol) That'll definetly help if you're nervous about playing infront of people and you can also get some tips from your audience to try and become a better musician(I bet none of the freshman do that lol)

With colorguard, just try doing what they have you do in conditioning at home =] Practice your drill with your rifle or flag at home to ^-^
