OoOoOoOh! They're beauties! They're cornsnakes, you said? What do they eat?
(I've never heard of that species before. They're super cute, though.)

Wow! I LOVE snakes!! They're so awesome! I want some snakes of my own so badly, but my parents won't let me (go figure, I'm 23 and rely on my parents decisions) and every roommate I've ever had hated snakes. Ah well. Some day.

We don't have any corn snakes here in Illinois, at least none we had to be familiar with to identify for zoology class. Tons of garter snakes, though.

If I ever get to have a snake, I want a kingsnake.. they're so docile and easy to handle. 3nodding

:p ok first off they eat either rats or mice. and second their really not hard to take care of and are native to all over the united states(more known in california i think). their actually more docile and friendly than kingsnakes. kingsnakes are also cannibal and known to be a bit more nippy than cornsnakes. cornsnakes are one of the best beginner snakes for their attitude and size.Ive never been bitten once by any of my babies though i got a couple of shots with dawn the albino one but that was because i was dangling a mouse at her with just my fingers(thats just asking for it :p dont try this at home).

For me, anything is more beautiful when they're dangerous....then again, that just might be me. I'm not allowed to get any more ferrets or lizards or dogs or cats.
(My parents are suckers for them as well. I can just tell them "But I found him on the streets, and he's so hungry, and he doesn't have a collar!")

Corn Snakes are awsome snakes and one of the nicest. Corn snake was one of the first pets I ever got and one of the first snakes I got. I dont have them anymore, but I do have 2 other snakes.

Hello, you have very pretty corns. Though Dawn looks more like an Albino Okeetee or Creamsicle x Okeetee.

To whomever said they want a kingsnake, I would suggest the corn snake for a beginner. They come in an amazing variety of colors and patterns. You can check out www.cornutopia.com for just a few of the colors they have, but there are certainly more! And new ones are ALWAYS being added. You could go with the slightly boring ball python ((or get an expensive color phase, sooooo pretty on ball pythons)) though they are a slight bit harder as they get bigger ((mostly just thicker)) and cna be finicky eaters. The reason I also warn against kingsnakes are because they are not as docile as other beginner snakes. I currently have a Spotted Californian Kingsnake that has been with me for 2 1/2 if not 3 years and STILL bites at me all the time. Also most kings I have seen be it FL of Cal. aren't the sweetest things ^^;.

This is my Spotted Cal. King... His name is Oreo. :3

yeah some kings will be perfect and then one day decide their cranky and snap at you razz . some rat snakes are the same.ive never been bitten by one of mine *knock on wood* though i do plan on getting other types of snakes some day. right now im concentrating on those. i got some mice to breed for feeders too.(killed in a humane way as well.I had a talk with the vet i do volunteer at on the best and quickest ways).

What are some of the most humane ways? I have always been an avid feeder of live mice, as I can't kill the mice, nor can I stand to dnagle a frozen/thawed mouse. I was always taught not to hold your snakes food, risk of it biting when you move your hand in its cage... well I was also taught not to feed the snake in the tank of housing ither. :3

My corn snake was a baby, He actually let me use him as an art project. What I did was curl him up on a large piece of paper, and I drew around him, the likeness of him. It took about 30 minutes and he NEVER moved. That was in a room full of classmates and he was a baby. It was amazing. Unfortunatly he didn't make it to adulthood. A month after that he passed away with out any signs of being unhealthy and the tank had been perfect temp. It was weird and sad. Anyway, my friend had been bit by her corn only once and it really isn't that bad of a bite.

Well, then, I guess I'm not getting a kingsnake. ^^ I only speak of wanting one because I volunteer at the local zoo, and the California Kingsnake is the one snake I love to handle all the time, mostly because he's very easy to handle. My zoology professor also mentioned that they're pretty docile. But we never really talked about cornsnakes, so I'll have to check that out. My other zoo favorite is the ball python, but Donnie is very big and hard to handle sometimes... especially when he balls up. He's pretty heavy if you end up holding him for a while, and I typically have him out from 30-45 minutes. Also, I would love to have a bigger snake like a python or boa, but we also have pets, and my worst fear is something would happen, no matter what we did. Also, I like small snakes... they're easier to handle and cheaper to feed. xp

I LOVE ball pythons because of their weight. Anyway I don't want to completely deter your from a Kingsnake. IF you don't mind the risk of getting bit, and you have time to handle him about 20 minutes each day, you should be able to make it docile. Babies are very jumpy too. :3

the vetrenary association recognizes cervical dislocation and blunt trauma to the head as the humane ways of doing it BUT you have to be ready that the animals twitch after death and this is just the nervous system. the animal is DEAD and not fighting to survive. just like if you cut off the head of a chicken it will keep running. technically it is dead. it doesent feel anything but the nerves make it move.
