I asked Rabbi Avi Rubenfeld over on askmoses.com if the brain of a goat is kosher. Here's what he has to say: Rabbi Avi : the brain is generally not eaten, but I presume if the goat is kosher, it's brain is too Alright, he obviously isn't a connoisseur of offal, or else he'd know that the brain is often considered a delicacy and therefore a Jewish gourmet may well be concerned of its acceptability. So, what does your Rabbi have to say about eating brains~? This opinion came from a Lubavitcher, so I'd be interested in a more liberal opinion, such as that of a Reform Jew. Oh, and just so you know a bit about Rabbi Avi: http://www.askmoses.com/en/scholars.html?agentid=846231042

It's just one of those things with Judaism. There are so many answers to one question, but I see your point Awkward. (The one about the brain being a delicacy yet a Rabbi says it is Kosher)
Would it be Kosher in the way of you don't eat everything that's Kosher? Like you need new cutlery to be Kushrut (sp?) so you put it in the mikveh, but you don't really eat it. Or theorettically it would be Kosher, if it were to be eaten?

I've eaten lots of Kosher organs (brains included). I've had Kosher: Brain Heart Liver Kidney Spleen
I hope to lengthen the list soon. I don't know what possessed me to eat spleen. But it's actually quite tasty.
There's a dish known as the "Jerusalem Mixed Grill", which is basically different chicken organs and lamb cuttings in pita bread. It's nice.

Dx Reading your post has made my stomach churn. I won't even eat Chopped Liver and my parents sure do buy that a lot.

I would like to say that these items of... food... were being sold in Jewish, Kosher, Rabbi-approved restaurants in Israel, and so I guess they're definitely kosher.

I'd eat anything served to me in Israel by Jews there. I don't know... something about Israel just makes me love the place.

I do know the giraffe is kosher but is never eaten because they aren't sure of where to shekht it. As far as I know, if an animal is kosher all parts, except for the sciatic nerve and certain fats, are kosher.

Strangely though because of the fats most of the shlachtos houses actually sell between 1/2 and 1/3 the back half the cow to a regular butcher factory thingy.

The fats and the nerve require a specialy trained schocet to remove, most of the people don't want to go through the the extra work needed to do the job.

Its not that I wasn't aware I just find it funny that its common for jews to eat liver, brains, and other offal but there are "normal" cuts of beef that are uncommon because they are on the wrong half the animal.
