Some say the end of the world is coming up -- 2012. Now, those are the super religious people who believe in the Antichrist, but it does (to me, at least) have some kind of weight in it. What it is, I don't know. Maybe it's my religious side clawing at my being. But anyways. What are your thoughts on it?

I think it'll be just another year, I actually haven't heard of this 2012 thing. Why do you think it'll carry some weight in the fate of the Earth?

Nostradomus predicted it, as well as the Mayans. They didn't specifically say the "end of the world" but that's what they predicted. I can't really explain it, but it goes both ways for me, from being a complete joke to maybe being true.

mindsage25 OH well ...ps jesus is a alien and he will rescue some of us to put into his zoo as a extinct species! haha That was mean. >=/
and no..the world won't end for a while... The Earth would be in BAD shape, though. Humans probably be one of the first to go with the birds. (I would mention the Bible for the signs, but...gah...can't do that with no offense) Ummm...I doubt it'll blow up like what my friends say. I think it'll just dry up...keep spinning... and get more water from eons of nothing but air and space...and plants of a foreign species might start it's existance...Dx

That is so stupid, just because the Mayan calender ends in 2012, the world will end. Actually the Mayans had several different calenders. The one everyone is referring to goes in cycles. 2012 in the end of a cycle the calender just starts over it doesn't end. The world may end at some point, but I don't think it will be in 2012.

@dolphinist: I did not know that. xD Interesting.
Anywho, the world has been predicted to come to an time and time again. We aren't the first generation. Some Christians believe that s**t will be going down soon and the Antichrist will rise up sometime during this time. There's been research done about how Jesus is supposed to come back within a generation from the time the Jews are reunited. The Jews -are- reunited now. They have their own land and are in control of the Holy City of Jerusalem (even though it's by force). I forget when exactly it was, but someone came up with the notion that a generation is about 51 years, so, starting from when the Jews got their country back, Jesus should be coming around the year 2018. Least that's the math I had done. Something like that.
Not that I believe any of it anymore. Like I said, so many generations have thought the end of the world would be coming soon, why is ours any different? You can't just put some special notion on our generations beliefs because we're somehow more intelligent than those other people from way back when. We just have the ability to prove why we're justified better. We have a better ground for argument.
It's just a hype that sells, so people make books and movies (apparently they are making a movie about the Mayan thing), just to get money.

Y2K. Need I say anything else?
(I suppose it is a bit different, seeing as it wasn't suppose to be the end of the world, but just a major f**k up. All it did, was scare the s**t out of people, and look what happened. As far as I can tell, all the computers are still functioning fine, and haven't made us their slaves (yet). ninja )~ I Love Kyle. ~

Good point!
What was that all about anyway? That the clocks in the computers weren't programed to go from 9 back to 0? Are computer programmers really that stupid? xd [/tangent]

People were afraid that when it turned to '00, the computers would get confused and think it was 1900 or something, throwing all sorts of time-based programs out of sync.

What it is, I don't know. Maybe it's my religious side clawing at my being. But anyways. What are your thoughts on it? I'm gonna have to disagree with the very first post.. People believe the world may end not on that date due to the anti-christ, but for the fact that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. The Mayan calendar has predicted many events, and it may not be the end of the world but a serious change in the world. Weather it be spiritual or physical.
Personally, given the economy of the U.S. and knowing somewhat of the scripture of the Bible, especially Revelations, I believe that there is going to possibly be a worse economic crisis, and the country of U.S.A. will cease to be. (This belief is due to the fact that if there is a war, the U.S. is involved, and the U.S. are not mentioned in the 'end times.') I don't blame the people, I blame the government. I bet we sell out to France, haha, but we won't know until the date happens.
Perhaps time and space itself will become irrelevant.
If the world does come to an end, I figure I've had a good run, otherwise, the run keeps going woo!
I personally don't wanna die, but if we are all going to die together, then I think I can live with that. razz

The whole 2012 thing is bull s***. the end of the world will only come either when we destroy the world or our sun blows up. the former being the more likely.
