Ding Dong
What more can be said? After that craziness of the Midnight Ball, during which he'd barely found time to even greet his one, two, third brother -he never counted Kyru-, the bunny Essentic had decided to spend his day off, the first in weeks, to go and see if he could finally meet him proper. Already he had a vague impression of him, but nothing beats the real deal, eh.
Long ears tucked under his cloak, he waited patiently at the door, trying not to wibble onto his heels and back too much.
Stage-fright, bunbuns? He'd rarely just gone to informally 'say hi' apart from Ellandra...

Lauss had spent the good part of the last hour reading a novel set in Victorian England. It was less for the story than it was for the small details. It was horror, with lots of bloody bits, something Lee would have burnt by now had she known he was reading it. The only reason he was not quizzing this master of his was because she'd offered to read the chapters at will. Odd, sure, but he figured it was just her getting motivated for once. This wasn't the case; she was "flipping" through the pages, but nothing was soaking in. The details of the ball were still fresh in her mind, and even though her intent was to just pretend to study, it was difficult to keep her head straight.
The door bell. What a beautiful sound. Lee jumped up from her spot on the bed and ran out the room. Any kind of a distraction would be wonderful.
The rabbit essentic was met by a towering, sturdy looking gentleman; the doorman. He was about to ask what business this young man had with the Katans when Lee hopped down the steps and over to the man's side. She tilted her head at the sight of him. "Misha?" Lee nodded slightly to the man to let him know she could take this. "What're you doing here?" She'd once again forgotten her manners, and stepped to the side to let him in.
Lauss hadn't come down quite yet; the chapter was just a page away from being over, and he couldn't put it down now. A visitor, though; how rare. He hurried to finish what was left, and as soon as the last word was spotted he sprung out of the room and to the top of the staircase. "...An essentic." He didn't move from his spot above the steps, but instead looked at Misha curiously. This was only the second essentic he'd officially met, and he didn't look anything like Crux had, nor did he bear any resemblance to himself. "You are an essentic, correct?" Just making sure.

Ahaha.
Huge... guy... don't eat me eep!
Misha'd almost plopped his head into his ribcage at the rather overpowering sight of this guy leering down at him, when sudenly, a loads more pleasant appearance came to save his neck. He could've kissed her right there and then, if he had any idea how to do that.
"Miss Lee!" Hey there, yeah, it's me. Totally, neat of you to remember me! "Ah, I had a day off, and I figured I'd see if you were home... Didn't catch you at the Ball last time, and I wanted to know how you were doing.. and, you know... I'd kinda like to meet my little brother, too." lol, fidget fidget. He realy didn't want to make it sound like Lauss was more important than her, but fact remains, he really wanted to get to know him.
And there he was now, up there. Greeting him with a cheerful wave, he nodded at his question. "Shush. Yes, I am. Like you." Chuckle. Don't you trust your Essence?
"Can I come in?" he asked Lee then, smiling fondly at her, speaking softly.

A charming little guy, calling her "Miss Lee." How nice.
Lee almost laughed at the mention of Lauss being his "little brother". It was cute. She hadn't thought of it that way before. She looked up, glad to see the proto had managed to find his way over to them, and waved a hand to beckon him over. "Come 'er, Lauss. Misha wants to meet you." He floated down the stairs swiftly and stopped half a foot from Misha. He really needed to kick the habit of entering others' personal space. "You look young. Like Miss Lee." He bowed before his brother, just now remembering that he'd wanted very badly to meet him and the others. "I am Lauss. You are Mister Misha, correct?" Perhaps now was a good time to practice his hand shake? He stuck out his arm, it nearly hitting Misha's chest, though the proto was very confident he'd done it correctly.
"Y-yeah, sure." She blinked and looked around her nervously, moving farther back to give the essentic room. So, this wasn't official business or anything? The delight of having a guest had faded, as it had become clear that she would once again be "hostess". Not one of her stronger skills.

Misha stifled a giggle when Lauss so eagerly smushed himself into his personal bubble, looked him over in greater detail now with undiminished curiosity. For a Proto, he sure looked nice. Smooth shapes, luminous colours... Quite unlike the pistachio rubber thing-with-ears he'd been himself, heehee.
"Ahah, I'm younger than her, I'm... fourteen months old now, or something." he chuckled, then took a pronounced step backwards to get some more room to properly shake his hand. He didn't mean to offend him by that, just be practical. It wasn't in his nature to nitpick on little bumps like that.
"Na, Misha will do. I'm no mister or sir or anything, just Misha. Nice to meet you Lauss." he smiled brightly at him. "I saw you at the Ball, but you were so busy all the time, did you enjoy yourself?"
At Lee's words, he calmly moved inside, gently taking Lauss deeper inside with him, still holding his hand.
"Same question I'd like to ask you, miss." ^^
If he'd known what she was thinking, he could have easily reassured her he was really just here to talk to them, like a friend. She really didn't need her to play lady of the house here, she should have fun, too.

"Ah, I see. Yes, Miss Lee is two-hundred and fourteen months, quite a bit older." He looked down as the two shook hands, making sure he was doing it right and paying no mind to Misha's step back.
Lauss had no way of not calling him "Mister", and so took his words as more of a suggestion on what he could call him, not what he must. "The ball was quite entertaining. Did you see Miss Lee's dress? I asked her to wear it. It was Victorian style. Did you see, Mister Misha?" Already with the Victorian conversation? Really, now, Lauss... He made no attempt to apologize for not having spoken to him while he was there like the proper "gentleman" should have done, despite thinking he was one.
The question caught Lee a bit off guard, and she stuttered to find an answer. "Y-yeah, it was great," she mentioned, nodding quickly. Well, it was for a while anyway. She can only make a fool of herself so many times before regretting ever going. She pulled at her skirt nervously, hoping to find something to entertain her guest with. The visit with Ellandra hadn't gone as planned, and looking back, Lee had totally dropped the ball on that one. But not this time. She'd be a good hostess, just you wait and see.

"Two-hundred and..." Oh dear. His math was failing him now. A year had twelve months do that was.... a lot divided by... Daaamn, when he was calculating distances and media speed it all came naturally.
"A lot, then." That'd work.
"Ah, I did see her. You picked that? Boah, neat... I really don't know anything about clothes, I'd run around naked as day if Longway didn't tell me what to wear." he chuckled, glanced at Lee again.
"You looked quite ravishing..." and did he ever mean that. He knew she hadn't looked all too comfortable, but somehow she appeared to always be a bit on edge. He wondered why. "There is no need to be nervous, miss Lee, I didn't come here to unsettle you... please relax?" Let's be... friends? His words were genuine, he really wanted her to settle down, and try to have some fun. Hell, she could just as well completely ignore him if that worked better for her, he wouldn't even be offended. Just a wee sad.
"... and what did I tell, you, no calling me mister anything, 'ttah. I'm your brother, ya?" he casually chided Lauss, and tapped him on the nose lightly. Poink. Tsk tsk you, silly thing. xD

Lee suddenly felt very old. But of course, for a teenage girl, that was a good thing. She smiled to herself as the two talked, knowing that, besides the help, she was the elder in the house. Looking up at Lauss, it was good to see he was being social. She was also relieved to see he hadn't pressed a hundred questions on Misha this time. Maybe he was growing...
"I did." He said, a slight hint of pride in his voice. He wasn't a master with fashion like he now seemed to think he was; he only liked the dress because it had the bustle in the back. Lee picked all the accessories, the makeup, everything else. "Miss Lee wouldn't let me go naked, either." Lauss seemed to be trying to fit in, though what he said was true. She wouldn't let him leave without that bow tie.
Lee smiled and blushed at the essentic's compliment; her tiny, suppressed ego was being stroked. She laughed with embarrassment, saying a quick, "Thanks..." while tugging at her hair. "Could you tell Miss Longway she looked really nice for me?" It had been a while since she spoke with the woman, but she still loved her to death.
Was it really that obvious? She scratched her cheek and nodded to Misha apologetically. She still wasn't sure what her role in all of this would be; he'd come to see Lauss, right? She'd stick around to chat a bit more, but wasn't sure what to say to the two. They needed to get to know each other anyway.

Heehee. A naked proto, what an idea... That would be like... calling rabbits naked. Right? Anyway, the image tickled him enough to elict a soft chuckle when Lauss said that.
"I think you're not really naked, like... cats don't need to wear things, sort of, but it's nice of her to care. I wouldn't let anyone run around naked either, because people make fun of other naked people. Or they get offended, they're a bit odd like that. When you grow up, you really should wear clothes all the time. Unless you're having a shower of course... or changing, then you can somtimes be undressed for a little while." He was really having trouble not grinning too much. Juvenile glee over talking about topics like 'in the nude', and the fact he had an inkling Lee still knew more about looking elegant than Lauss did. They worked together, but did they even realise?
"Ah, I do mean that... And of course I will, she'll love to hear that." beam beam, more smiles and he'll burst into rays of sunshine and candy showers.
And then, a relative silence fell, which Misha used to deflate a little and settle. He really talked too much sometimes.
"Sooo... Say, you two.... how have you been getting along?"
There we have it. Honest answers plox, he knows when you're lieing.

"Cats need to wear collars. They are not naked." Lauss clearly wasn't getting what Misha meant, but Lee was a little glad, as he made it sound like her putting clothes on him was less ridiculous than it was. "Make fun of naked people? Why would they do something like that?" Not that it would have bothered Lauss; it was impossible to break that spirit of his, and he probably wouldn't have noticed why he was being made fun of. He made note of the things Misha said, and would try to remember to take his clothes of in such situations. While it was giggles for the other, it was business for Lauss.
She smiled again, and, unsure of what to do during this brief silence, she figured it'd be best to take the group upstairs. She motioned for the boys to follow her as she led them up the steps and toward Lauss' future bedroom.
The question caught her off guard. She laughed uncomfortably, then turned around and looked at Lauss. "I guess we've been fine... I mean, he gets really annoying, but... he's doing his job." While she didn't let on just how much he bothered her sometimes, she wasn't being dishonest. She was a little irked by him all the time, sure, but nothing too bad. And Lauss... well, he had nothing to complain about. He was very used to be told what to do, talked down to, dragged around, and generally abused. But he could take it, and couldn't mind it less.
Lee continued down the corridor until she reached the bedroom, opening the door, and letting the two step in. Lauss wiggled his way through the door and turned to Misha. "This one will be my room when I grow." He seemed proud, although there was little to be proud of. It was a nice sized room, but was very bare. A bed, small table, and dresser were all the room held, but Lauss was excited all the same.

“Cats wear collars so people can find them again.” Misha rebutted with a smile. “I've never seen stray cats wear anything but their own fur. Not that it matters.”
“And... people... err. I'm not sure myself, but people like to mock each other. Having fun by hurting the other, with words. It's confusing.” Confusing indeed, Mishmish. He still struggled with getting down to so many concepts in the world, in culture, it sometimes made his head hurt. “It's mean.”At least that one he was sure of.
“Lauss... annoys you?” Well, doesn't that sound familiar. A little disconcerting, too. Following Lee upstairs, he briefly pondered that. “Do you ever tell him when he does? Why he annoys you?”
Man, that felt like talking over the Proto's head now. He sure seemed rather oblivious, carefree... Misha wondered why that was. Didn't he hear it? Didn't he want to, or didn't he know what the implications were of what was being said about him? Soon enough he was cut short of this thoughts again though, and he looked around the room Lauss was showing him.
“Wow.”
Okay, bare it was, but... heehee, his own room, that must be fun. His bright smile was completely genuine there.
“I sleep on the couch in miss Longway's apartment.” he grinned. “She says I have to keep it clean, just like a room. It's quite a responsibility. ...Do you look forward to growing?” Tentative question, not meaning to pry, but... who knows. It could mean a lot of different things, 'growing up'. More than just acquiring a larger form, a less suspicious one. Stronger, maybe?

Lauss wondered to himself if perhaps that was the reason people wore clothing as well; it was hard to tell people apart as it was, but a nice pink shirt or tan dress made it a lot easier. "Do you think stray people wear nothing, too?"
"Very confusing. Doesn't sound like much fun. Perhaps they should pick up a hobby. I imagine reading would be much more entertaining." He nodded to Misha; learning about his findings on "people" was fascinating. He also took note of his mention of "mean". He hadn't experienced that yet, as far as he could remember, and having an example to back the definition up was helpful.
Lee blushed at Misha's question. He got her. "N-no. But I don't think he'd care. I mean, he doesn't really care when I'm annoyed." She tried to save face, but had no good excuses. Her words were true in a way, but it was only because he'd gotten used to it, figuring that was just how Lee was. Lauss paid little attention to them, as they weren't really talking to him or specifically about something he'd done. In fact, they were talking about those ever-elusive feelings he'd had yet to understand completely. Best to stay away from that one.
Lee giggled at Misha, finding it adorable that he had a hard time keep a couch clean. Apparently she didn't think about the fact that she'd never done her own cleaning in her life. Hence, why it seemed so easy. Lauss curled up on the bed, happy to be resting again. "I do. I hear that I will be better able to understand "meaningful concpets" like life and love." He was pretty forward about it, wasn't he? It made sense, though, especially with what he was talking about. He didn't understand the delicacy of such things, and wouldn't know that they were unfit for casual conversation. "Do you understand those things, Mist-- just Misha?" Lee's face went pale. Oh god. Poor Misha. "Y-you don't have to answer that."

“I don't think they do... Humans aren't like animals that way, the cold and the heat and the roads they make are hard to bear. And they don't like being seen all... uncovered. Once I grew more, I started getting that, too. That... shame.” Misha explained calmly, giving the issue some thought. “I'm not sure where it comes from, maybe from feeling vulnerable, showing people things that not everyone is supposed to see. Not in this... culture.”
“... there are a lot of confusing things. Reading is nice... Well, most of the time. To me.” Like thrillers aren't nice. They're scary. “At least it's more fun to read than to mock people, unless you're being... mean, yeah.”
Confusing, indeterminate. Worth investigating, worrying about, all those things, but so, so confusing.
“Ah, you... He doesn't care? But miss Lee, that's...” impossible? Improbable, implausible? MISS Lee, Lauss is bonded to you, you opened your heart to him. “Well, I assume he can't do his err.... 'job' right if he pussyfoots around, but... I have trouble believing he really doesn't care. Maybe he just doesn't know when you're aggravated? I know I couldn't tell easily when I just emerged...” He had gotten better with that fast, but he still let his ears hang in shame at the notion. It wasn't nice at all knowing that Longway was mad at him, or had been mad at him before he could tell she was. She was quick to drop little piercing remarks though.
“If you don't talk to him about it, how is he supposed to learn?” To be fair, he did get the impression it probably wasn't easy to get through that thick skull of his, flighty thing. ”I don't think you should give up before trying... You're worth more, both of you. Turn or twist it how you will, you're stuck with him, and he'll always be there for you. It's up to you to teach him how to 'be', na.” Misha said, and smiled.
Looking around the room still, his tail gave a happy little quip. It was quiet exciting, somehow, to have been invited here into Lauss' future room. Almost without thinking he followed his little brother inside, watched him settle, and promptly sat down beside him. Aww you, hey there... Only for moment did he resist the urge to touch him, then decided that actually, touching and petting felt good, and he wanted to be nice, right? So he reached out and petted him softly, felt those extensions behind his skull -feathery, fuzzy?, then laid his hand on Lauss's back before he started to crawl him like a cat.
There was a short silence after he'd gotten his answer, and a new question. And Lee's interjection.
”Hm? 'tah, why wouldn't I answer him? That's a good question, right, miss Lee? I mean... it's a pretty basic issue to... everyone, and it's interesting to think about. I think.” He'd almost said 'you humans' there, but avoided that just in time. Na, he saw no reason to deny Lauss an answer. Even if he had no factual information at the ready, he could still do the effort of giving his own view on it. What was Lee so worried over now?
“So... Life and love you say. “
Phew, give me a moment there. Tough one, that.
“Those are important, like a lot of other things, yeah. The more we mature, the better we understand what humans mean by them, and they get meaning for us, too.” he pondered out loud, nodded, more to just nod than to anyone in particular.
”I learned a lot of things already. I know what life means, the... value of it. Yes, I think I do know that. Love.... I was sure I knew what love meant, once, and then I learned new things, other opinions, that go against what I thought was 'the right definition'. Longway said nobody really knows, nobody can define it, but... if you think you found out, found it, it's accurate enough. Feelings can't be denied, she said. You can't doubt you're feeling pain.” After that, he sighed softly, began stroking Lauss again as if offering comfort, or even seeking it.
”And then she said...” … that you shouldn't worry. Essentics aren't supposed to fuss over all that, it's not like it means much to you. You're just making yourself illusions, Mish. Stupid bunny. If you stopped fretting over it, you'd work better, you don't need all that touchy-feely stuff.
”Nevermind. Miss Longway says a lot of things, and I talk too much.” he rounded down, with a slightly distant smile. Will that do? Oh, he wouldn't mind answering more questions, not one bit.

Ah, so it was influenced by "culture". That Lauss could understand. At least he thought he could. "Perhaps when I am an alter I can wear Victorian garments. Do you know if they make those anymore?" Lee rolled her eyes; like hell she'd be letting him run around looking like that. At least not when she was around.
"So, as long as a person has shame, they will not be laughed at?" Makes no sense at all, but... facts are facts, and Lauss would leave it at that. Lauss' tail, usually fluidly swaying from side to side, halted at Misha's mention of his enjoyment of reading. "I also enjoy reading. You should look at the text books that Lee has; they're a wonderful read." Lee chuckled after turning her face from the two. How entertaining these guys were together. Lauss was unintentionally blunt and carefree, and Misha was very tolerant. Not to mention both were over-enthusiastic.
He... doesn't know? How could he not know when I'm upset? Lee thought it would be obvious, even to someone or something like Lauss. Even dogs could catch on to something like that. Misha had her thinking for the first time since he'd grown to be a proto. He was only... what, two, three months old? "I-I guess that... makes sense." Her cheeks turned a deep red; it was humiliating to realize how impatient and foolish she was, especially when having it pointed out by someone else. It didn't occur to her that she was still very young, and that there is a reason girls her age didn't often make the best mothers. "You're right, I guess. But... he'll be better at behaving later on, right?" Only time would tell if she'd actually put Misha's advice into action, but it would make it a whole lot easier if Lauss learned to shut his mouth.
Lauss froze a bit as Misha started petting him. Odd... being touched for no real purpose. He wasn't being held back, wasn't being dragged anywhere, and wasn't be swatted at. About to ask what Misha was doing, his thoughts seemed to disappear completely as the crawling commenced. A quiet purr escaped the proto as his mind drifted off. Trying desperately to get out of this spell Misha seemed to have put on him, he flicked his tail around like a fish out of water until his consciousness was fully restored. Lee tilted her head at the strange sight, and after Lauss' fit was over, shook her head and looked back to Misha. Weirdo.
Lee left the door open behind her as she stepped into the room, taking a seat on the ground next to the bed. The proto paid as much attention as he could to Misha's answer, but spent a lot of effort in keeping his mind straight. Lousy timing to lose consciousness. Lee curled her knees to her legs as she listened. "Wow, you've already fallen in love?" She probably should have found it pathetic that Misha was so far advanced in such fields, but, as she hadn't really had much interest in all that until just recently, it couldn't have bothered her less. "Did Misha have a girl friend?" Lee smiled, almost teasing the little bunny.
At the alter's pause and rewind, Lee shook her head. "Naw, that's okay, you don't talk too much. If anyone talks to much it's Lauss." He was so much younger than she was and not intimidating in the least, making it pretty easy to relax once she was part of the conversation.
