Should he really be doing this? He felt a little silly walking towards the ushujaa camp, without a kill in his maw. It was another low day on the hunting front, without much prey around. They'd caught several large prey the day before, so no-one in the pride had an empty stomach. Mkuu could even swear he had put on a few pounds, but he didn't care.

Right now, he cared about Hasaa.

...Hasaa. He knew her name, at last. And he really hoped she liked this. In his maw he carried a small bouquet of flowers he'd found in the forest, in a large mixture of colours and sizes. Held together by a small piece of vine he was being careful not to crush them, despite the fact that his jaw was starting to cramp.

He reached their 'usual' meeting spot and paused, frowning. He suddenly realized he didn't know where she was. Knowing him, he'd probably chosen a time when she was on watch...

It was a lovely morning, dewdrops sparkling on the grass all around the mountains. The tip of Hasaa's tail went up, then down...then up...Then down...Slowly, repeatedly. It was a lazy habit of hers, whenever she was relaxed and bored at the same time. She yawned, stretching her forearms in front of her. She gave a tiny grunt, and then continued pacing as she watched for danger. She loved her duty to the pride. And she loved even more that there were so many Ushujaa. It was less stressful knowing she wasn't the only one keeping danger out. But she still got tired quite easily, sometimes wishing for any kind of distraction.

Lucky for her, one came.

Ears jumping, the lioness swiveled around, extended claws scraping against rock loudly as she turn. She weaved through a few sparse trees and looked up near the top of the slope. She smirked, suddenly feeling giddy. Without any other thought, the stocky girl dug her claws into the dirt and trotted for the male, tail lashing behind her, as usual.

"Hello~!" she drawled in greeting from afar, getting closer and closer every moment. What was in his teeth? It was...

WHAT THE--...Flowers? How...How sweet...What a darling boy...No one had ever given her anything before...That was, if they were even for her. Who else were they for if not her, though?

Finally close to him, she faced him. Her eyes wandered to the bouquet in his maw.

"Oh, my~," she drawled, seeming surprised. "You poor dear~. Did you have a tumble down a hill and skid face-down?" she asked.

Mkuu's ears flattened against his head as he heard a noice, turning around just in time to see the pink lionness he'd been after coming trotting towards him. He tried his best to grin, though it was difficult with the flowers, and he had to give up for fear of crushing the stems. Lowering his head, placing them on the ground and nudging them towards her as she stopped, he did manage a sincere smile, ears still flattened in an oddly submissive manner. He wanted to please - both because he didn't want her to insult him and...and because he liked her? Was he allowed to say that?

This was strange. He didn't usually act like this. Her words 'caused him to frown in confusion, looking slightly hurt before his gruff facade returned, alongside a growl. "No. I thought you might appreciate a gift. If not, I'll just crush them and leave."

"A gift~?" she drawled enthusiastically, darting towards him and dipping down to stare in awe at the wildflowers. She glanced up at him, smiling. "Thank you." she said firmly. Then her attention was back on the flowers. They were very nice to look at, she thought. Then again, she looked at nature all day, staring out into the open. Not that she was complaining, of course. But some of the flowers, she wasn't used to seeing. Perhaps some only grew near the Mwindaji tribe? In any event, it really was a nice gesture. And never having been given a gift before, she appreciated more than she would tell. She was a lioness of mostly closed feelings.

She bent down to sniff at the flowers, taking one in her teeth. When she rose her head, she brushed Mkuu's chest. But she didn't back away. She pointed her nose up at the top of the male's head, nose brushing his cheek. She placed the flower behind his ear. She stepped back and grinned, eying her work.

"Ah~," she said, staring admiringly at him. If anyone could see her face, they'd say she thought he looked wonderful.

"You look like such a fool~!" she said sweetly.

He watched her a little awkwardly, nodding to confirm that it was a gift. Y'know, one of those things lion A gave to lion B when they wanted to be nice? He watched her curiously as she sniffed and looked over the flowers, seemingly in awe. Did she really like them? It seemed like she did, even as he tensed by her movements.

They were innocent enough, but they just seemed so much more intimate when she did so. He forced himself to relax just as she brushed her nose across his cheek, to place a flower behind his ear. He frowned, not sure of how it was looking, but he looked down at her expectantly, awaiting her verdict. Because that was the most important one, right?

Her words...well, he wans't sure. He frowned slightly at her...well, was it a compliment or an insult? You could never tell. But with a bright smile the male chose to take it as a compliment, leaning his head forwards to touch noses fondly with Hasaa, pulling back so he could lick her cheek. "Thank you, Hasaa."

Hasaa blinked, frowning at the sudden kiss. Her heart felt strange, but she wouldn't say she didn't like it. She tilted her head at him, eyes wide and searching. Without another thought, she lied down by him, looking up at his face, perhaps waiting for him to do the same. She pawed absentmindedly at the flowers, blinking slowly and taking in their scent; and his.

She felt strange.

Without really thinking about it, she allowed her head to relax in such a way that it was leaning against his arm.

For one, she had no idea what she was doing.

Or did she...?

He watched her, blinking himself as she laid down onto the ground. What? He...She...Was he supposed to do the same? Or was he supposed to just stand here and support her head, which was now resting on his leg? Were there general rules for stuff like this which he'd never been taught! Struggling to come up with an answer to any of his question, Mkuu instead flashed a rather shy, awkward smile, carefully deciding to lower himself down to lay beside her, but without upsetting her head too much. Eventually, it was him laying there with her head on his chest, unless she'd moved it.

"I...are you alright?" he eventually asked after several awkward silent moments. What was he supposed to do!?

Hasaa rolled to her back slightly, head lolled to Mkuu's chest. She picked up a flower with her claws and peeled off petals awkwardly, like a lovestruck teen. She gave a tired smile, enjoying the relaxing feeling.

It had all been teasing and games before, and in truth it still was...But now she felt something strange added to the mix. When had she gotten to like Mkuu so much? When she was focused on her duty, she really was focused. But when she wasn't, she was always thinking about the male; pondering new ways to anger him. Pondering his smell...

...Hm...

Hasaa pressed her head further into the male's chest, coiling up like a cub.

"I'm doing splendidly." she replied softly, eyes closing. "You?"

He watched her with a strange expression, and one he hadn't really used before. It wasn't admiration - no, not this time. More like adoration, as he watched the female. He felt his chest swell a little at the thought that she did actually like him - him, the big fat grumpy lion. Surely there were plenty of young Ushujaa who were fit and healthy who she could choose. But...she'd chosen him.

He smiled down at her as she looked up, reaching down to nuzzle her forehead affectionately. Her coiling caused his own paws to move, cradling her in a protective manner. She might be the guard and he the hunter, but that didn't mean he wouldn't hurt anyone who tried to hurt her.

"I'm doing pretty great too," he replied gently, just...watching her. He really couldn't believe this was happening...

A wide smile stretched across the female's face and she heard a strange purring noise. It was with some surprise that she realized the sound was coming from her. How odd. It was all very odd. But she found she liked every moment of it.

She was so sleepy...And content. What a nice day it was...Really...

"That's good..." she said just above a whisper, a light yawn escaping from her maw. She snuggled into Mkuu's mane, taking in a deep breath and letting out a sigh. All feelings of wanting to tease were gone, and were replaced with just being there, doing...What were they doing? Snuggling? Hmm...yes...It felt very nice.

The sun was warm and the breeze was warm and it was all so warm and nice.

In a matter of moments, the lioness was sound asleep.

Mkuu smiled. He really, really smiled for the first time in a long, long while. He really quite liked spending time here, just him and Hasaa. It was peaceful, which was a drastic change from their first few meetings. But...it was nice, now. And everything was alright. They liked each other. How it had happened or what other forces had wanted to have a laugh by putting them together, he honestly didn't know. But right now, with her smiling like that and falling asle all cutely, he really couldn't care less.

And so, with a quick, affectionate lick to the top of her head and a nuzzle, he laid his head down also, soon drifting off into a sleep of his own.
