[PRP] And the World Burns ((Axel and Seraphia))

[Nisshou H]

It was dark. It was dark that surrounded her and it was Dark that had done this to her.

Seraphia lay at the base of an old oak tree that grew along the southeastern banks of the lake. Her wings hung limply at her sides and head rested in a small pool of blood. Her usually mane well kept mane and tail had fleck of dried and drying blood clumping the fine strand of hair together. Scrapes, cuts and bruises covered her limp, pale golden body. While most of these were not actively bleeding one was. A small cut on her head still bled slowly outward.

Earlier in the morning the black winged angel had been the picture of health. By the afternoon sun she had been locked in battle with one she had spent so long hunting. The sun was now setting on the day. Shadows spread out across the ground hiding her form from the light.

The chill that came with them didn't penetrate her senses. Her mind was lost in the realm of unconsciousness. Her thoughts wheeled and twirled dizzily from dream to nightmare to memory over and over again. She could no sooner control the flow than she could fly. Despite the randomness of it all one thing remained constant in everything.

She was lost.

He felt uncomfortable being away from Phia because she seemed like the type to attract trouble like a light attracts flies. Axel was just wandering around keeping himself occupied so that he didn't go mad. He wished that she would just show up or something..

Axel was rather bored at the moment and he sniffed the air curiously wondering why there seemed to be an odor wafting through the forest. It smelled like blood. He was rather curious to see what was injured but he was in no hurry to see bloodshed or get into trouble.

But he couldn't help himself and Axel began to walk towards the smell. Then... Axel began to recognize another more familiar smell combined with the blood. His heart began to rush. Was it Phia? Axel forced himself to run towards the smell and he saw her crumpled on the floor next to a tree. "Phia!" His voice had a breath of desperation and he leaned down to look at her. Axel saw the blood and his heart almost stopped. Was she breathing? He lowered his head and laid it on her chest and he heard the faint beating.

"Phia." He began to calm down and just had to say her name to see if she would wake up. "Phia. It's Axel. Are you okay?" He didn't even know what else to say.

'Phia!'...'Phia'...'Phia'

The sound of her name being called echoed around her head. Her mind stopped skipping around and froze with her standing on a chunk of of rock floating in a sea of grey fog. She couldn't understand where the voice was coming from.

'It's Axel'...

Both the name and the voice were familiar. So very familiar but she didn't know why. Her head was spinning and the sea of grey was swirling around her. She knew who was speaking or at least she was aware that she should know. The face wouldn't come to her though.

"...Axel...?" The words escaped her mouth slowly and her eyebrows knit together in effort. It was hard to speak. In her mind her mouth hadn't even moved, but she knew it was her voice. Were there two of her now? It didn't seem either of them knew who Axel was though.

"...Who...?" The word echoed around her mind as she spoke it. It was so confusing. She couldn't tell what was going on or even where she was. Over and over again she repeated the name in her mind hoping that she would remember. A flash of light in the fog caught her attention. She turned to look and saw a flame flickering in and out. The dancing fire put a name in her mind, a very familiar name.

"Fire...spike...?" She asked as her golden eyes struggled to open.

Axel felt so worried. What was he supposed to do? All he could do was stay by her side and keep her warm. He would never leave her.

Oh thank god. Just hearing those words coming from her mouth made him feel so much better. He was patient and relaxed a little bit. The blood just bothered him because he never wanted to see her hurt. Nudging her affectionately, Axel hoped that she wasn't in too much pain. And then he realized, somebody must have done this to her.

"Yes. Fire Spike..." He smiled once again feeling relieved that she said his name. "Are you alright? What happened?" He spoke in a loving, gentle tone and he hoped that there was no lasting damage.

The world swam before her eyes for a moment. She felt strange. As everything became sharper a few things became quite clear to her. The first being that everything hurt. Had she ever been hurt like this before? It didn't seem like it. The second was that she wasn't imagining the spiky headed form by her.

Her head slowly rose from the puddle of her life that was seeping into the ground and she tried to smile. "Fire Spike...my Beloved Flame..." Moving made her head spin and her body ache but she refused to lay back down. It took her a moment to realize that the questions he asked were directed at her.

She frowned slightly. "I...found him..." she muttered slowly her eyes focused on his face. "Found Dark..." What had happened after that she couldn't remember. There had been a mare but after she ran off there was nothing. She turned her head sharply and grit her teeth in an effort to remember the missing part and quickly regretted it. A wave a pain coursed through her and she choked back a sob before letting her head fall back tothe ground. "It hurts...it hurts so much..." she whimpered.

Frowning, Axel just wanted her to feel better. He was too worried about her to even think about who could have possibly done this. As she was talking, Axel could feel himself growing angrier and angrier. Dark. The stallion that she was hunting? So he did this to her. Axel's head was racing with thoughts and he wanted to shred something to bits right now. Why did he leave her side? If he hadn't, she would be fine right now.

"It's okay. I understand. Hush and rest for now Phia." He gritted his teeth but he wanted her to stop talking so that she could rest. "You don't have to worry. I'm here now and you're safe." He would find this Dark and kill him. Axel was not happy about this right now.

Axel nuzzled her affectionately. He lowered his body until his legs were tucked underneath him and he was laying next to her. "Just don't think about it. Everything will be fine." He laid his wing over her and pulled her close.

Somehow just having him near was comforting. She smiled a bit at the affectionate touches. As he lay down beside her she found herself relaxing a bit. She turned her head to press it against his chest and let out a tiny puff of air as she was told not to think about it. She didn't really want to think about it, but she felt the need to.

There was a large gap in her memory surrounding the events that she imagined was very important. She worked on going backwards in time step by step muttering quietly as she did so. She wasn't getting anywhere fast because at the moment, laying like they were, Seraphia just wanted to sleep. Her lids began to droop as the peaceful sensation began to claim her and then a thought reached her.

Golden eyes snapped open. "He's...he lives near here!" She exclaimed her voice hoarse and panicked. She trusted Axel more then anyone else but for as much as she trusted him she knew that Dark wasn't alone. There had been others, others that would likely come to his aide. She glanced towards the village with wild eyes. Should they run? She didn't like the idea but she liked the thought of dying a lot less.

Continuing to nuzzle her gently, Axel felt his temper flicker slightly but he tried to keep himself under control. He would kill whoever did this to Phia if he got the chance. "Hush dear." Closing his eyes, Axel tried to focus on Phia and not the fact that he wanted to kill something.

Axel looked at her carefully. She was talking about Dark.... Axel never really thought about her search for Dark until now. Maybe this wasn't healthy for her. If he was beating her up, she needed to stay away.

"Relax. Nobody is going to hurt you." Axel didn't know exactly how to comfort her because he wasn't used to this kind of thing. But he really was trying his best because she seemed to be getting somewhat hysterical. And this wasn't exactly the safest place to be either... Why did he leave her side?

A low pitched whine escaped her throat as she was told to relax. Right here and now she wasn't entirely sure how to do such a thing. She was scared. She didn't know what had happened and what she did know about the situation did nothing to ease her mind.

For a moment she pushed the thoughts of the event to the back of her mind before pressing the side of her head against Axel. She took in a deep breath and did her very best to focus on only his scent. She let it out very slowly. It hadn't settled her completely but the comforting smell had eased her enough to keep her from panicking over everything.

Pulling her wings tight against her side she took in another breath and relaxed against the body beside her. "If he comes back..." She murmured moving her eyes upward. She couldn't see him for the most part but she didn't really want to move her head. She was comfortable where she was and didn't know if that comfort would stay if she moved.

Sighing, Axel wished that he had the ability to heal or something. He would take care of her no matter what. "When you're ready to get up tell me. Whenever you feel okay to walk. We'll get out of here and to somewhere safer." He didn't know what else he could say; he wanted to comfort her but also kill something at the same time.

Feeling her breath was such a relief. He didn't know what he would do if something really happened to her. For once, Axel had opened up again and let himself get close with another soquili. He didn't think he could stand it if his heart was torn in half again.

Later, Axel would find out what happened and then he would go rip whoever did this apart. He had ways of finding people and he knew how to get around without anyone noticing. He wasn't scared of anything or anyone when he was by Phia's side. Without her, he wouldn't know what he would do.

Slowly she nodded her head and was almost tempted to force herself up right then. The still present throbbing in her legs let her know that moving so quickly would only end in disaster. She snarled slightly, furious that her body couldn't recover quicker.

It didn't take long for the anger to burn out. She had been unconscious for an unknown period of time but she still felt tired. When exhaustion met rage or anything else with her the sleepiness tended to win. Her lids slowly slid shut so that she could no longer see the world around her.

"I'm...it's alright to sleep...for a while...right?" She asked sounding almost content. Where she lay now was warm as though the sun was shining on her and mover comfortable then anything she had ever experienced. The combination of the two things and the natural sleepiness she had were messing with her mind and making her oddly complacent.

Axel wanted to move Phia to somewhere safer such as his teepee or something but he didn't want her to move until she felt better. This area could still be dangerous so Axel stay aloof and tried to remain calm. "Yes it's fine. Just relax and sleep. I won't leave you."

The stallion looked around carefully watching everything that moved. Axel wasn't really used to taking care of others but he seemed to be a natural.

"Mmkay...I'll...just...be a minute...just...kill Dark if he shows up...alright...?" She mumbled slowly as her breathing evened out. Almost unconsciously she ruffled her wings and warmed her way as close as she could to her own personal heat source without breaking the laws of physics. The pain that she had been feeling faded away as she began to doze off knowing that in the morning those aches would likely be worse but the wounds would be healing.

At least she had someone on her side to help her. That was the last semi-conscious thought that passed through her mind before she fell into a much needed deep sleep.
