"I wish they would hurry up and leave!" Reiga exclaims in frustration as yet another door slams down the hall, followed by giggling and the sound of something heavy being dropped. The students, if that is really what they are (Reiga secretly suspects them of being animals magically given humanoid forms), have been moving all of their things in and out of their apartments constantly for the past few days, and it has begun to drive him mad.

What was the phrase the Gaians had...something about a straw and a camel. Whatever. Projecting an unusual amount of frustration, Reiga puts down his pen and writing practice material, marches over to the door, throws it open... and finds a hallway, empty of everything except scattered furniture and appliances.

Taking a deep breath, Reiga reminds himself that it would not be proper to fully express his displeasure at the situation. It would be over soon, they would be done moving and the noise would cease and the mess could be cleared away. How could people acquire so much ugly...

A black box catches the merchant's attention. Frustration gives way to curiosity as he slowly approaches, looking up and down the hall to make sure no one sees him. Is it...? Ah.

Grinning now, Reiga returns inside his apartment and informs his wife that there is a television for the taking!

Chourou looks up from the sofa and a pile of cushions, in the process of switching a spare one in for the one that has been trying to eat her and her husband every time they sit on it. The upholstery hardly matches, but the Knight can hardly complain if mixing and matching results in a more comfortable (or at least tolerable) sofa.

She joins her husband at the door, a faint amused smile on her lips. A television? She is certainly curious about what all they can watch on one, but also has her doubts regarding whether or not they really need one. But then on the other hand, there is no sense allowing something perfectly good to be thrown away.

... Where is it?

Gesturing out the door and into the hallway, Reiga explains that it is sitting with all the junk the so-called students apparently think will magically disappear or be eaten by hall-dwelling-spirits if left there long enough.

He makes no attempt to hide his low opinion of their neighbors. Reiga hates mess and incompetence... which, so far, is all he has seen. But, perhaps it is not all bad, especially if they are resourceful enough to gain from their neighbor's short-sightedness.

His grumblings over, he goes back out into the hall and tries to lift the television to show his wife - and immediately requests that her superior strength be used instead. heart

The Knight of Bukoku follows him into the hallway and promptly nods as she notices the device. She sends soothing feelings to Reiga - calm down, they are nearly gone, and Akram has told her that they will have the building largely to themselves for the summer. Akram and his roommate (they still have not yet met him, have they?) will be in their apartment two floors above them, but she does not think many of the other Gaian students will remain.

Laughing softly, she crouches beside the television and grasps it, then stands... slowly... with some effort.... She will concede to Reiga at least that it is heavy. Now quickly, he should go ahead and make sure there is a space in their front room where she will be able to put it down - Chourou is not sure how long she can hold it

Rushing back into their room, Reiga moves some chairs to the side and makes a space on the floor near one of the outlets so they can plug the television in. Chourou's words have calmed him somewhat and gotten his mind off of the mess and noise. Now, he is just excited to see how one of these contraptions works!

If Chourou can just set it down here, I think we can see if it functions properly. Reiga is pretty sure he knows how they work... he thinks. Maybe.

After setting down the heavy television as gently as possible, Chourou sits back and stretches her arms a little.

She will leave this to Reiga's expertise, then....

Reiga would hardly call it expertise...but he shall try his best. Finding the power cord, Reiga inserts the prongs into the outlet, carefully. Not seeing anything else to plug in anywhere, he turns his attention to the front of the television. There are a number of buttons, each with writing above them. He has often heard of there being an 'on' switch to these things... but there is nothing with the word 'on'. Ahh, but there is a button with the word 'Power'. Rather ambiguous, but... shrugging, he pushes it.

Nothing happens. Frowning, Reiga tries again. Still nothing. He pushes every other button, just to make sure there is not something else he should do first. Still nothing. Sighing in exasperation, Reiga tries once more... and the screen is still blank.

Something isn't working right. We may have to get it fixed.

Chourou crawls around behind the television and examines the place where the power cord connects to the machine. The wire looks undamaged, at least... but really, she is not sure what could be wrong. But it looks like this little panel here can be removed....

As it comes free in her hands, the Knight quickly examines the edges of the opening to be sure that piece was supposed to come out like it did. And, finding everything looking okay, she leans down to peer into the alien machine.

Yeah, looks like it would probably be best if they got someone who knows what they are doing to fix this.

We shall have to find that someone, then. Perhaps there is someone at the market we can talk to, someone rather inexpensive but who knows what they are doing. Reiga has had no experience with 'fix-it' persons, and so has very little idea of where else to start looking for one.

The television is heavy, they will have to try and get whoever they find to come to them. Unless Master Akram would let them borrow his camel, but Reiga thinks this is very unlikely. Shall we start looking then?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 2:30 pm

Barton Market seems as good a place as any to start looking - Chourou thinks Master Akram might be there now. If nothing else, perhaps they could ask him where to look for someone with the skill to fix a Gaian television.

... Will Uki and Ako be alright on their own for a little while, she then inquires, brow furrowing as she stands and brushes a few stray hairs out of her face. She does not want to wake up Ako from her nap, but they should try to be back before the girl awakens on her own.

Reiga nods, they will not be gone long. They should go now though if they are to return before Ako wakes. He quietly lets Uki know they will be stepping out for a brief moment, not long, and to please keep an eye on Ako.

Slowly he stands, straightening his own hair which has gone slightly askew from all the activity, and neatens his robes. He is ready, and moves to the door. Is Chourou ready, or would she feel better if one of us stayed with the girls?

Tam sat between two market stalls, leaning against his pack. Barton market wasn't a bad place to look for work, he'd had several small jobs in the past few days, but there was a lot of waiting around.

He put the finishing touches on the odd looking deer he'd been carving, and pulled out a ball of tangled, nearly unworkable metal that might, at one point, have been jewelry. He started unknotting the chains.

Something interesting would come along. Or he could always move on to the next town.

If they are both searching for help, then hopefully that meant they would not need to be gone long. So they can get going now, and hope for good luck. Since so many Gaians seemed to own televisions, though, so perhaps that also meant that there would be a lot of people able to help. Casting one last glance back towards the girls' room, Chourou stepped back out into the hallway and held the door open for Reiga.

If nothing else, this outing would get Reiga away from the noise for a bit of moving for a bit.

His face lighting up at the prospect of getting away from the noise, Reiga hastens out the door. The sooner, the better! On to Barton market!

There was something so wonderfully soothing about the sounds of a marketplace. As he peers at all the booths, Reiga feels himself becoming more relaxed, and immensely comfortable with his environment. The sounds of bargaining, the smells and sights, vendors trying every trick in the book - and a few Reiga had never seen before confused - to convince people to purchase their goods. Though their apartment building had been noisy and disruptive, the sound here is practically music in comparison.

The merchant scans the area, searching for someone who might have the necessary skills to fix a television. Just as importantly, someone with whom they could strike a good deal...

Tam handed the portable music player back to the kid, ruffling his hair as he did. They boy and his sister ran off, laughing.

He looked around the street, saw that his spot had been taken by someone else, and shrugged. It might be worth it to see if he could get some space at a booth for a cut of his profits. He went looking for the repair booths.
