A sort of calm settled on the packlands as evening set in. It was the time after the regular activities of the day had ended, but it was still too early for the nighttime ones to begin. As the young teen padded along the pack border, she carefully took note of everything around her. She listened as nocturnal animals began to stir from their slumbers, while the songbirds settled quietly into their nests.
Well, most of the songbirds. Nevermore's emerald eyes trailed upwards to the sparrow fluttering above. It darted around from tree to tree, but no matter where she walked, it followed too. The sight was disconcerting and her brow furrowed with a grunt in her throat. Lately she had been seeing the bird more and more often. She tried everything: shouting, hiding, closing her eyes and willing it to go away... but still it followed her. She let out a sigh, her peaceful evening already ruined, as far as she was concerned.
Perhaps she would go wandering in the neutral territory outside of the border. She was already at the border after all. Looking around, Never checked to see if it was clear. The teen didn't want to find out what would happen if she was caught sneaking out. But her urge to get away from her family was more than enough to dispel any fear she had about it. Satisfied, she ducked into the trees and quickly padded farther and farther away from the scents of them. Likely Never would stop near the river to prevent herself from going too far, but for now, it felt good just to walk away.

Life had changed so much for the cream and violet wolfess. How her life had developed, and in the most unusual and unlikely forms. . . She had gone from an innocent and abandoned pup, had grown in to a naive but wary adolescent, and then had found heartache and heartbreak as a young adult. Though she could think back upon Eros without hate, without the sting of bitterness and depression that had once ravaged her so, the femme couldn't say she regretted her actions. She had been in love, or so she had believed, and though he had left her without a word he had gifted her with two beautiful daughters. And shortly thereafter, his escape had been an opening for the love of her life, Occam, to fit perfectly within her heart.
Ah, but times had changed. . . .
Her two eldest daughters had grown and both females had left her side to discover their own lives in the world. And though she missed both dearly, she knew they would make it, just as she had. Any loneliness she felt was assuaged by the love of her ebony mate, and of course, her three sons. Though they too, were grown, Acaii had yet to leave his mothers side and her other boys frequently visited.
My but life was an adventure and the cream wolf was all the wiser for it! Though there had been dark days in her past, everything now was where it was meant to be. Ravii had no complaints, she had no objections, and she was quite in love with her life. Though she frequently lived within the mountains, with the coming of summer she had taken her son and headed to more flat ground. The local plains and woods had been her home as a puppy, and it was here that Acaii and she resided.
Her son wasn't too far off, he never was, but Ravii was navigating her way to a nearby river. New scents and new packlands had kept the femme on edge, rumor had it there were some less than savory individuals out and about, but the female wasn't worried. So long as she respected local borders and kept away from the aggression of strangers, she'd be fine.
Finding herself near a bubbling river bed, the cream and blue eyes femme lowered her head to drink. She was in no rush this evening, was in no hurry to move in one direction or the other. She'd wait by the river and see if her son tracked her location. With evening fast approaching, they'd need to find a spot to curl up for the night. . . a spot by the river was an ideal location.

The failing light cast an orange glow across the forest as Nevermore ran farther and farther away from the pack she reluctantly called "home." She may have been the alpha's granddaughter, and the daughter of a Seer in the family, but she hated every once of their blood in her. Not that her mother's blood was much better... The wolfess was guided by her sickness of the mind, manifesting itself in the form of a raven's voice. Her siblings seemed to have inherited the same madness, and paranoia from having a father who could tear open one's mind with no effort whatsoever. Her siblings were usually tolerable, but not her parents. Especially her mad mother.
With those thoughts, the sparrow reacted with a squawk. Stupid bird. At least it had distracted her in time to see the river glimmering up ahead. She slowed her pace, letting her breath come in puffs. Padding along the river bank, she kept going until she had reached the bend and a little beyond. There, that was as far as she would go. But what was up ahead? Immediately on guard, emerald eyes took in the sight of a creamy grey and violet femme as she took a drink. A loner? If Never had kept going she would've walked right into her. Though the stranger seemed pretty relaxed, Never poised herself to run, legs spread, drawing her lips back as she growled in defense. But the tail curled firmly between her legs betrayed her fear.

Ravii's ears had twitched at the faint sounds of padded feet against soil. Ever relaxed, far from her more skiddish years as a young teen and pup, the she wolf finished her drink. Out of the corner of her gaze, she caught a flash of movement and with a curious glance, she peeked over at the source. There stood a maroon and teal striped wolfess. . . young from the looks of it, and quite on the defensive. Tilting her head, inquisitively, Ravii allowed her tail to wag in pleasure. She didn't raise it, didn't demand the other she-wolf to crawl upon her belly and submit. . . All Ravii wanted to do was express friendliness and congeniality.
"Why hello there," she finally spoke, blue eyes gentle as she watched the actions of the other. Should the female before her be crazed or mad, Ravii had time enough to leap out of the way and run. She was no fighter, but she was experienced and wasn't at all concerned about the antics of an adolescent. Most wolves did tend to be defensive at first. . . . at least until they realized she meant them no harm. "I'm sorry," she started, giving a small shake of her head and purposely taking a small step back. "Did my drink disturb you or your territory?" Yes, she would take the blame for Nevermore's momentary hostility. Though the river was on neutral ground, Ravii had little pride and would remove herself less she further upset and cause the stranger distraught. Even if it was Nevermore who had stumbled upon Ravii!
Hopefully the teen before her would realize that she was not going to cause a fuss. . . .She wouldn't dominate her or attack her; she would be nothing but friendly and cordial. Though it was good to be on ones most cautious behavior, she also understood that a life of fear and aggression could cause unnecessary conflict and tension. The young teen before her had yet to realize it, it seemed. . .

The nonthreatening way Ravii greeted her helped Nevermore calm down. She was never sure about the trustworthiness of strangers, but the fact she wasn't fighting for her life right now was a good sign. Slowly her tail uncurled and her paws settled into a more natural stance. Still, Nevermore kept her wary emerald eyes on Ravii's every movement. If she caught even a hint of aggression, she would attack or flee. Preferably flee.
"Hello," Never said, keeping her voice steady and unrevealing. If she had been another wolf, she might have responded apologetically to the wolfess, perhaps admitting to her own mistake, and move on to a lighter, friendlier conversation. Instead, she looked back where she came. "Don't travel that way. You will run into my packland... You don't want to be anywhere near there." It was Never's turn to shake her head, looking forward again. Agua Azul, though it wasn't particularly good, it wasn't downright evil either. But there were many wolves who weren't quite right, and the pack was unstable, capable of being toppled to one side or another. Nevermore took it upon herself to warn strangers of the danger, friendly or not. "Out here it should be safe."
If only she could stay out here herself. Never seemed to take an air of sadness as she stood there, thinking about getting away. The river wasn't far enough anymore.

The wolfess watched the female, noting her wary body language. She reminded Ravii of herself when younger, alone and without a pack, wary of all she met until they proved themselves amicable and friendly. The young one before her seemed uptight, uncertain and ready to bolt on a moments notice. . . .
Poor thing.
Ravii's heart couldn't help but go out to her. Still, she knew that this was a delicate meeting, one that could be destroyed the moment she forgot herself. Thankfully, the cream wolfess was naturally maternal and kind; it wasn't in her nature to be intimdating or threatening so she could be herself without intimidating the stranger. Hopefully.
Canting her head ever so lightly, blue eyes drifted away from Nevermore in to the direction of where she had come. The wolfess had heard rumors of various packs, some full of evil and darkness unimaginable. While there had always been agressive wolves and packs, it seemed that it was a common theme within the woods. Too common, if one wanted to know Ravii's opinion, and quite a shame.
"Well I thank you for the advice. I'll keep myself away from your pack lands, I don't want to run in to any trouble." She smiled, genuinely grateful for the spot of advice. No, Ravii had no intention of traveling far as she would soon return to Occam and her sons. . . but it was good to note, just in case. "I'm Ravii," she introduced, tail tip wagging. Perhaps a change from the subject at hand would do best. . . .if the poor wolf before her lived in an unsavory pack, there was good reason for her wary behavior.

The relaxed and kind way Ravii behaved as she addressed her calmed Nevermore further. The adolescent wolf's gaze softened a little, until she finally looked away. She was almost reminded of her mother, when her mother was having a good day. By no means did Amary treat them poorly, but when you were told to do something ludicrous because the raven said so, it made the mothering seem strange and unnatural. It was a nice feeling, and the tip of Never's tail wagged every so slightly in response.
Suddenly Nevermore decided to move, approaching the river banks cautiously, until she was close enough to have a drink. She was still a short ways from Ravii, and was reluctant to look at her directly, after the way Never had been watching her so carefully. Staring, really. From her spot she took a short drink, then sat down. Only then did she look at Ravii again. "I'm Nevermore, Never for short." She paused for a moment. "Are you from a pack around here?" Ravii didn't look familiar, but Never hadn't really visited many other packs. She still had a bit of puppy curiosity in her.

The blue eyed wolfess was pleased by the response. There was something skiddish about the strangers behavior, and the mother within Ravii couldn't help but be concerned. The poor dear looked harmless, though experience told the violet one that looks could always be decieving. Still, until Nevermore decided to actually turn on her, Ravii wasn't going to concern herself with such thoughts or behavior.
A little kindness went a long way, afterall. Hadn't her charm even subuded her most beloved mate. . .? Occam and she hadn't met on incredibly happy terms, but her kindness had brushed aside his initial growling and defensive self.
Smiling warmly, Ravii took a moment to groom at a paw before allowing her gaze to settle once more upon Never. "Well it truly is a pleasure to meet you, Nevermore." She didn't mind using her full name, a nick name seemed far too casual and far too impersonal. Besides, Nevermore was exotic and pretty, very fitting for the wolfess before her.
"I'm actually merely visiting my old home. I come from a pack high within the mountains, but I lived within these woods for many years on my own. My son, Acaii, is with me. . . though where he's gotten to I couldn't say." She smiled fondly, though a touch of sadness did enter her gaze. She'd lost her third son, and many within the pack were presumed dead. Their 'pack' was actually rather broken and there was rumor that they'd leave it. . . . Too many hard memories, too many burdans on the heart-strings. "If he appears, I hope you won't be alarmed. I promise, despite his size, he's a kind sort."
She certainly didn't want to scare the poor girl off! A little heads up from her son, of course, would be nice. Acaii didn't often travel far from his family, despite being a mature adult. After losing his brother, he didn't care to be long away.

Kindness did seem to go a long way. Nevermore actually found herself growing comfortable in the violet and gray femme's presence, and she let herself smile a little. She never fully let her guard down, but much of her usual edginess was going away. Though she denied it, she shared some of the paranoia her brothers had, especially when it came to showing others who she really was. It stemmed yet again from her father's ability to read her mind without even trying. If she didn't acknowledge her feelings, he wouldn't be able to see them. Or so she thought.
The sound of her full name brought her to attention. Hardly anyone used her full name. Most of the time she was just Never, or as she thought of herself, Never-do-anything-right...
"The mountains?" Never's single ear swiveled forward to listen, her head tilted just a little to the left. She didn't know anyone lived or had lived in the mountains. It sounded like a harsh place, though Nevermore hadn't yet been there to see it with her own eyes. Ravii spoke of her son with obvious fondness, then just a touch of sadness entered her eyes, making Never wonder what had happened there.
"Alright, I'll keep that in mind if I run into anyone else..." She nodded gently, then hesitated a moment. "D-do you travel a lot? I'd like to go visit new places someday." She wasn't used to asking others questions so it came out in an uncertain stutter at first, but grew strength as she spoke.
