.07.07.2009. Ruokei's written his first actual story. 1 post on the writing itself, and 1 post that is the story with the accompanying picture have been added to the journal.
.05.07.2009. I've done a touch of updating to the first page of this journal. Also added a shop RP link done with Sayuri Nitta.
.18.06.2009. I need to be better about updating this. Another couple of PRPs have been linked, and I've got a new solo post or two up.
.03.06.2009. Isyr has handed over one of his grandkits to Ruokei's care.
.01.06.2009. Have updated Ruokei's journal with a few solo posts and a link to his very first group RP.
.29.05.2009. Begun work on the first page. Ruokei = SQUEEEEEE

User ImageGiven Name: Ruokei
Family Name: None, really, though for any paperwork purposes, Lemieux
Nicknames/Aliases: Kei
Species: Porcelain

Eye Color: Greyish Purple
Hair Color: Dark Purple
Usual Hair Style: Loose, cut to about chin length, and straight, with no bangs.
Height: 3'7"
Body Type: Slender, very delicate
Apparent Age: 7

Personality: Painfully shy, Ruokei finds it very hard to meet new people. He's very polite, wanting to avoid bad feelings or any sort of conflict, and a very quiet individual. He doesn't feel comfortable using spoken words, and finds them horribly awkward. Although his guardian is Mireille, his actual care is entrusted to the zurui Sailien, who can communicate with him.
Likes: Quiet, writing, very soft music, warmth, and being alone or with Sailien
Dislikes: Meeting new people (though once they are friends, he doesn't dislike the fact that he met them), loud or jarring noises or music, very chilly temperatures, confrontation, being expected to speak aloud.
Hobbies: Writing
Fears: Confrontation, making a fool of himself, making someone hate him.
Abilities: The normal mental speech of all porcelain, and a very slowly-developing creative writing skill.

Parent/Guardian(s): Mireille and Sailien (Though Mireille is his actual guardian, Sailien is the one who watches over and protects him.)
Sibling(s): None currently.
Extended Family:
Sexual Preference: Unknown
Relationship Status: Not applicable - he's too young
Best Friend(s): Sailien
Other Connections:

History: Once upon a time, Ruokei lived with a large family in Gaia. He doesn't remember them beyond faint flashes of impression. There are no fully-coherent memories within him of the time before the Limbo, and no memories of his stay in that timeless void, before his soul felt tugged back to Gaia. He remembers only impressions of blond and blue hair, and he doesn't understand why cats make him smile, or fish make him vaguely uncomfortable. He knows only that things have changed, that there is something he has lost, and that he cannot get it back.

Perhaps it was Aliikki's essence - rebirth and life - that reached into the void and drew him out. Certainly she was the first to find him, and guide him to the shop called Those Who Remained, where zurui and huliao intermingle. Once there, she was able to call the woman she had bonded to, and Mireille came to pick him up. Mireille has awkwardly welcomed Ruokei into her home, offering him a room of his own, and feeding and clothing him as best she can. Her agent, Robin Donkin, has yet to actually meet Ruokei: the porcelain is terribly, horribly shy, and hides himself away whenever possibly, using the pretext of reading the books Mireille owns... or the ones she's written... as an excuse for his solitary nature.

But something in those fictional works is stirring a need within his own soul...

User ImageGiven Name: Mireille
Family Name: Lemieux
Nicknames/Aliases: Mir, Miri, Mire
Species: Human

Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Black, but beginning to grey a bit
Usual Hair Style: Loose, framing her face
Height: 5'3"
Body Type: Average, touch on the slender side
Apparent Age: Mid to late 30s

Personality: Mir is quiet, a friendly woman who is a touch sad. She isn't very outgoing or eager to meet new people, and many of Gaia's more unusual denizens confuse her. She does her best to be and remain polite, and doesn't like to talk about her past at all.
Likes: Reading, writing (sometimes - when the novel is cooperating with her), instrumental and classical music.
Dislikes: Loud or jarring noises, most of the television shows out to date, talking about herself.
Hobbies: Putting together study aids and learning packets for Ruokei, in the hopes that he may someday be able to communicate with her.
Fears: Car crashes, loving anyone too much.
Abilities: Writing professionally.

Parent/Guardian(s): Deceased
Sibling(s): None
Extended Family: Husband, also deceased
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: Widowed
Best Friend(s):
Other Connections: Although Mireille is listed as the owner of the small Gaian shop Those Who Remained, she rarely does any actual work there. Instead, the shop is run by Aliikki, a zurui who has taken over care of the place.

History:
Mireille grew up in an upper middle-class family: not rich by any means, but certainly well off enough that she wanted for very little. As a child, her parents constantly regaled her with how smart she was, how pretty she was, how talented she was. As a teenager, she was left with conflicting messages. Her parents still considered her bright and capable and beautiful, but things she read, shows she watched on television... everything else said that she was little more than average, not dumb by any means but not the genius her parents seemed to think. For years, she tried to sort herself out, not really even understanding just why she was uncomfortable and unhappy. Things came to a head when she entered university. She had no real desire to continue her education at that point, but she'd been so conditioned by her parents and society that she literally had no words to explain why it didn't feel right. She let herself get distracted and began failing classes before finally simply choosing not to go to them. Eventually, when she'd convinced herself that there was nothing she could really do, she withdrew from university altogether, and trudged back home to live with her parents as she sorted herself out.

Within a few weeks of being back at home, she met back up with Thomas. She'd gone to school with him, had been best friends with him, but had also lost touch with him when she left for university. Where she'd failed, Thomas had succeeded at school, moving up on the fast track until he'd finished his own school a year early, and had already found a job. They began to spend time together, and slowly came to realize that while they'd been friends before, now things were shifting to something deeper. They were married a year later, and settled down into a decent life together. Thomas made enough money for them to live comfortably, and Mireille began to work on her own options. With Thomas' blessing, she finally decided to try her hand at writing a book, and for two years, worked and slaved over the story. She got it written, cleaned it up, and eventually began to submit it to publishers. Eventually, her book got picked up by Daffodil Books, a small publishing firm located in the nearby city. The night she got the news, she and Thomas went out to celebrate. They had dinner out, went dancing, and enjoyed themselves... and on the way home, their car was hit by a drunk driver who'd lost control. Much of the night is still a blur for Mireille, even now, but she distinctly remembers being trapped in the car, and terrified, and seeing Thomas carefully climb out of the wreckage and cut her free of her seatbelt, pulling her out and resting her gently on the roadside. She remembers that he looked whole and clean, slightly brighter than his surroundings, as though he were standing in light. When she came to in the hospital days later, she was told the truth: her husband had been killed on impact, his body mangled beyond recovery.

Mireille went back home after that, but held herself distant from family and friends, caught up in her grief. She stayed that way for almost a year before tragedy struck yet again, this time taking her parents from her. Their deaths nearly destroyed her. After months of ragged, painful depression, Mireille attempted suicide. Left almost completely alone in the world, she almost succeeded, but for the agent representing her books. He found her near death and contacted the hospital. She spent nearly a year undergoing treatments and dragging herself out of that pit, eventually moving to her current city. The move itself helped the most. She boxed up her parents' and Thomas' belongings and stored them away, living in a nearly spartan home as she gave herself a fresh start. Her agent, Robin Donkin, became a dear friend, and she pushed herself to continue writing. Mireille's life is funded by the combined life insurances of her parents and Thomas, leaving her with more than enough for a comfortable life and the ability to continue her writing without having to push herself to get a day job. But it's an empty life, the loneliness broken only by her get-togethers with Robin.

Mireille is a quiet sort of woman, not unfriendly but shy. Much of the time, there's an air of sadness about her, but it's a faint thing. She's finally moved on from the tragedy and pain that struck her life, and is pushing herself to begin really living again. With Robin's guidance, she writes a series of young adult fantasy books called The Silver Trifecta that has sold decently. It's never hit the top ten list, but it comfortably pads her income from Thomas and her parents, leaving her wanting for very little. She's finally gotten herself back together, and is ready to tackle the one thing that money can't buy... the ability to share her life with someone again.

Hitsuga gave Ruokei this bottle of perfume when they first met. Though Ruokei doesn't really wear it much, he loves opening the bottle sometimes to smell the soft scent of sandalwood float through his room.

Porcelain
Kikushou - Ruokei thinks that Kikushou is a very vibrant girl, and worries that his quieter nature will offend her somehow.
Kauanoe - Ruokei likes Kauanoe very much, finding her gentle help and fuss over him uncomfortable, but not unpleasant.
Rou - To Ruokei, Rou is rather fascinating, with his magic and his friendly attitude. Ruokei would like to think of them as friends.
Hitsuga - Another fascinating person is Hitsuga, who can make smells out of wood. Ruokei still doesn't understand precisely what it is Hitsuga does, but he knows it must take great skill.
Baikou - Baikou seemed very motherly to Ruokei, and Ruokei is not quite sure if this served to make him happy or sad.

A Note From the Player
- -- - -- - -- -

I joined Gaia as a fun alternative to real life rather than as a way to improve myself. My life outside of Gaia is filled with stress and worry, and I needed a place where I could relax and enjoy the flow.

I understand that people may feel their roleplaying skills are superior to my own. Indeed, they may even be correct. But I'm not looking for advice on how to get better at roleplaying or writing, or what I should be doing instead. If I desire advice, I will seek it out and think seriously about it. And if someone is polite about offering advice, after getting my feathers ruffled, I will likely step back and think about it, and may even agree.

But that's not why I'm here, and I offer no promises to consider advice offered without solicitation.

Thank you.
