To say it had been a long night had been an understatement. Even well after having bid Baikou goodnight and retiring to separate rooms, he had lain awake, his mind's churning preventing him from sleeping. There was too much to think about. Too much was different, and just enough had remained the same to be maddening.

Dawn broke and chased him out of his workroom where he'd quietly gone about his morning rituals of getting showered, changing, and making a pot of tea, all of which Baikou had slept through.

As far as he knew she was STILL sleeping when he'd crossed the street later that morning to the udon-ya to sit at its outside table. He knew Lady Rika and Master Setsushi were very likely still resting, and that was fine. He was not seeking to bother them with his company. He only wanted a bit of space, and some fresh air to clear his head, both of which his current perch provided him.

Omi was walking, looking into the brown paper shopping bag that she was carrying. She was making sure its contents were still okay as they walked. "Are you sure he's going to be awake?" she asked absently, speaking to the girl that was skipping along beside her.

Oh yes, Kiku is sure. Master Hitsuga is the type to get up early in the morning, because he seemed to be rather put out when he woke up late the night Kiku slept here. So if he was that upset, then he must be used to getting up early.

Kikushou was looking around at everything. This place was just so interesting to her, completely foreign from where she'd grown up. It was taking some getting used to, but it was happening at least. Master Youko had taken her to get some more clothes that she would actually wear, and apparently there were a few shops in Gaia that sold respectable kimono and garments. Now she didn't have to wear the same thing all of the time, but didn't have to wear those awful jeans-things that they tried to put her in. A lady? In PANTS? Scandalous!

As she rounded the corner towards the area where the Porcelain houses were, she broke into a grin and started off at a run.

Master Hitsuga! Master Hitsuga!! Kiku is back! The Lady Omi made a VERY big mistake the other day, and we're here to apologize and brought you something nice! Kiku hopes he will like it?

At the sudden open projection ringing through his mind in childish tones, Hitsuga tenses, but then turns in his chair to note, first, the young child approaching and smiles, returning her greeting.

He hopes Lady Kiku has been well since last they spoke...? How has she been settling in this world?

And then, beyond her, sees the angular frame of an older female following and feels his smile slip, a small flurry of worry, fear, and anger flitting about him like a cloud of gnats as the last time THEY spoke likewise resurfaces. Taking a deep breath, quelling the urge to get up and leave before he opens himself to a repeat of the previous incident, he remains in his seat.

Yes, yes. Kiku is well, although the clothing here is very strange. Lady Omi and Master Youko have seen to it that she has appropriate clothes for a young lady, however, so she is doing much better now. Has Master Hitsuga been well? He looked a bit peaked when she'd seen him the night before, when the beautiful lady came to see him. Was everything all right now?

Omi approached then, also nervous as to the result of this meeting. How, exactly did one remove their foot from their mouth when it was in all the way to the knee? Bowing before Hitsuga politely, she spoke aloud, and projected as best she could.

"I'm here to offer my apologies to you," she said, wincing inwardly when she remembered her actions and words. She had misunderstood the situation completely, and the only rationale she could give was that her maternal instinct had kicked in before the more practical side of her mind had the chance to interfere. "I made some accusations that were entirely unfounded, and I had no right to speak to you as I did. Please accept my apology."

As she spoke, she moved to hand the bag to Kikushou, who was fairly vibrating beside her.

Kiku and Lady Omi brought you this! It was something that we had found, and I thought you might like it. It's very relaxing, I think, and so beautiful to watch.

Inside the bag was a plain box, containing a small 'deer chaser' fountain that had caught Kiku's eye at the market the night before. The girl had so desperately wanted it, that Omi couldn't say no... even if it was a bit pricey. Unfortunately, the money that the girl had brought with her from the Golden World was no good here, so Omi had paid for it herself, gladly. It was the least she could do after her epic screwup.

Hitsuga sympathizes with Kiku on the matter of clothes. He'd, likewise, been given a culture shock when arriving here. He imagines if the Golden World were exposed to Gaia's way of dressing there'd be more than a little uproar... sweatdrop

And....and he is fine. Lady Kiku needn't worry about him, he assures her. The lady is a dear friend of his whom he has not seen in a very long while. The last thing he'd expected was for her to chase after him into this world, and it gave him a bit of a shock.

His banter is mostly to distract himself from Omi's approach.

Though as she bows to him, he rises from where he sits, listening carefully to what Nozomi has to say, his expression unplaceable.

...and then likewise bows back back to her.

All is forgiven, he assures her quietly. Lady Omi must just....understand. Its been a very turbulent last couple of weeks....and he is sorry for his own outburst on the matter as well. It is his hope they can both forget it had happened.

He is interrupted from saying more as Kiku presents him with the bag on behalf of them both, and he feels himself flush. Two pairs of eyes on him expectantly, he hesitates, and then sets it on the tabletop to draw out the box it contains, and then undo its flaps to reveal the fountain.

Curiousity emanates from him, followed by a flutter of delight as he thanks them both.

"It's lovely," murmurs a female voice somewhere behind them; a somewhat bedraggled-looking but smiling woman has been slowly making her way towards the group, and is only now close enough to see what had been exchanged.

She gives off a warm, though sleepy, feeling of greeting, then one specifically to Miss Kikushou and one to the... human? She tilts her head curiously but does not inquire at this time; "My name is Baikou," she introduces herself to Nozomi.

Her gaze then moves among them -- Omi, Hitsuga, Omi, Kikushou, Hitsuga, Omi -- and... Baikou, in her infamous body language-blindness, cluelessly asks, "Are you Hitsuga's friend?"

Kikushou was giddy as the projections from Hitsuga became clearer and was absolutely ecstatic that he enjoyed the gift! She'd picked it out especially for him. She was also happy that he and Lady Omi were friendly now, because she'd feel horrible if they didn't like each other because of her.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Baikou-san," Omi answered, bowing to the woman as well. If nothing else, her father had taught her manners. She just wished they'd been present a few nights ago. the feeling of greeting is returned, albeit hesitantly, Omi still getting used to the projection of the Porcelain. She counted herself lucky that she could hear them at all, and give at least a rudimentary response of her own.

Kikushou, for her part, was beaming, looking up at Baikou and giving her a proper greeting as well, although a bit more enthusiastically.

Greetings again to you, Lady Baikou! Oh dear... Kiku did not know that the Lady was staying here as well, and feels badly... she didn't bring anything else. Oh, but they would be back another time, and she would be certain to bring something then, if that was all right?

The girl was fairly vibrating in place, she wanted so badly to ask about her mother and if she was well, but Lady Baikou seemed to be rather tired today. Well, no wonder, if she'd landed on this world the same way Kiku did. Maybe that's why she seemed to be walking to carefully.

He'd given a jolt at Baikou's presence, having not heard her approach, so slow and careful was it....and then offers her a smile, and a private projection of apologies. He'd not wanted to wake her, he'd just wanted some air.

And then back to Kiku, he offers reassurances and his agreement at the outcome. Hitsuga would have been quite upset at letting such a misunderstanding remain in place. He is, however, glad that she is being taken care of.

Seeing her otherwise engaged with speaking to Baikou, he politely silences himself to allow them to talk.

... Baikou looks around the group again, as if slightly puzzled, but bows to Omi -- slightly, since she is rather sore, but with an accompanying feeling of respect and acknowledgment.

... And, partly privately, a bit of surprise at her ability to communicate in the Porcelain way, as she was not aware that humans could speak thus with their minds. But she publicly gives off only a diffuse feeling of curiosity before turning to Kikushou again, smiling gently.

"You needn't worry," she murmurs, "Hitsuga and Setsushi are taking good care of me." Her basic needs are provided for, and that's all Baikou needs, really.

"But how have you been, Miss Kikushou? Safe and well, I hope?" The child does seem healthy-colored and energetic, so Baikou already anticipates a favorable answer.
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 3:12 pm

Safe, yes. Kikushou responds, her head nodding forward just a bit with the thought. Lady Omi and her father, Master Youko are taking good care of her, and even got her a doll! It's at home on the bed right now, because Kiku was afraid that it would get dirty outside. It's very pretty, however.

There was a twinge of longing in the girl, for just a moment. She'd had beautiful dolls at home too... but that thought was carefully put away for now. There was no use in spending every waking moment pining for home, as much as she wanted to. It wouldn't get her there any faster.

Omi watched Kiku go on, and while she couldn't read the girl's projections unless they were aimed specifically at her, she was certain that Kiku was bubbling at Baikou, just from her expression. The curiosity of Baikou didn't go unnoticed, but Omi attributed it to the woman being curious about Kiku's well being. It never occurred to her that she might be mistaken for a normal human... even though she looked like one now. Before, it would have been painfully obvious to her, but Kiku's presence seemed to give her something else to concentrate on instead.

She was also more than willing to let the water flow under the bridge, so to speak, and offered Hitsuga a smile. She was glad they could be friends, Kiku seemed to be very fond of him. She'd been speaking of him ever since her arrival at the house, and had been worried for him.

Focusing his attention on Omi, leaving Baikou and Kiku to their conversation, he inclines his head a bit.

He had done nothing special, he assures her, seeming a bit embarrassed, though he returns the slight smile. He has, unfortunately, learned from experience what it is like to go from being surrounded in familiarity to being dropped somewhere vastly unfamiliar and didn't feel especially comfortable about leaving the young lady to fend for herself. And he had been the only one to find her, so... sweatdrop

Baikou nods as Kikushou continues, attending to the child's words carefully. "It sounds like Madame may be able to make you more comfortable than we can," she comments. "There is little space here, and few beds..." She is apologetic and vaguely guilty, as she is taking up some of that space and one of those beds.

"But... Please do not worry, Miss Kikushou. Rika and I will do our best to open the way home as soon as we can. In the meantime... Would you like to send a message to your mother or Miss Souyuu?" She smiles more brightly, hoping that the suggestion will cheer the girl up.

It was all right, the bed at Lady Omi's home was more than enough, and was very comfortable. She even had her own room! It was lovely, and she wouldn't dream of taking another bed here, especially if there were others like her that needed a place to sleep and weren't lucky enough to have someone offer them anywhere else...

That was when she heard the offer of the message.

Kiku's expression immediately lit up, eyes going wide and lips forming a perfect 'o' as she looked to Baikou in awe.

Could you? Please? It would be so wonderful to let them know that she was all right, and not to worry. She could be a little lady, and would not do anything that would embarrass her mother. And Souyuu was probably doing so well in her studies, she must be sure to do extra well for Kiku because she wasn't going to be able to study with her for a while.

Her mind was rambling, the girl so scattered at the moment, that even her thoughts were disjointed. Even just a message would be a blessing, and then she wouldn't feel as though she were causing her mother any trouble.

Baikou told Rika to let the scholars know that Miss Kikushou had been found, so Lady Yuushou will probably worry less, knowing that her child is safe. But still, "I am sure nothing would bring your mother greater joy than to receive a message written by her own daughter's hand."

She pauses, then tries to peer into one of the udon-ya's windows, craning her head to one side. "Are they awake? Perhaps you could go in and do it now."

What time does Sir Setsushi usually rise? she asks Hitsuga.

Hitsuga looks briefly to Baikou, and then follows her gaze to the window.

He doesn't know, he's afraid...

But the udon-ya is usually open for lunch, barring something unforeseen, so he doesn't imagine Master Setsushi would be sleeping for too much longer...

His eyes flick to Nozomi. Does Madame happen to know the time?
