Escape. She had left the borders for a while needing a rest. She would get Chuju trained up soon so that she wouldn't have to do this on her own. Chuju would also relate better with the younger lions wanting to join the pride. She smiled to herself. It would be perfect for Chuju to help welcoming lions into the pride. She would need to talk to Tamu about it though.
She was heading down the beach, she could do with a good old swim and the beach was always a lovely thing to lie on. The sun warmed it up lovely and so it meant that once she came out the water she could lay down and dry off in no time. it was without doubt the perfect and ideal situation. She might even find someone to swim with her. Today she didn't mind what happened as long as she got a rest.

A broad yawn, a content purr, the blue lion stretched from paws to tail, toes curling in the sand, basking in the warmth of the afternoon sun. Ah the sand, soft, warm, unlike any sand he had ever felt before, how he loved that sand. A happy sigh, Ali'ikai flopped onto his back, eyed turned to the ocean. Sand and sea, did life get any better than this?
An idea, the lion was on his paws, a childish grin on his maw, he could make something in that beautiful sand! A lion with a purpose, Ali dug in the sand, he first had to gather a big enough pile of sand, though perhaps he was digging a hole (or maybe it was a trench) as much as he was building a pile.
But it didn't really matter did it? He was going to make the best sand...rock, mountain...cave? ever. Or maybe, he could make a fish! Amid the flurry of sand the lion grinned, his thoughts captivated by fish and sand, it was going to be AWESOME! Caught in his excitement, he hadn't yet noticed he had gathered enough sand (and a deep enough hole) to easily bury himself and perhaps anyone else that might have been watching.

As she walked she saw a rather large mound, one that she hadn't seen on the beach before. Had she known that beyond the mound was the blue lion she had welcomed into the pride and then went swimming with.... she would have happily trotted over and half buried him. She was sure he was the kinda guy who would find it funny.
She flicked her tail as she walked over to investigate, sniffing the air to try and work out if there was anyone near it. As she reached the mound she tried to push it a little to see if it was stable but as sand does a bit fell off. She smiled to herself and walked around it and laughed.
Out of everyone she had met in the pride if anyone would have dug himself a hole that big it would be him. She couldn't help but laugh which for her was unusual. She was normally polite enough to at least say hello!

Wha--flail!
A startled yelp as clumps of sand rained down on him, landing with a surprising thud on his blue pelt. Not knowing what to expect, he looked up, eyes searching for the cause of falling sand. Oh! It was Kwaruza
"Yo duddette"
He flashed a broad grin, happy to see it was his friend, the falling sand quickly forgotten (such a short attention span).
Hmmm, well he supposed he had gathered enough sand, at least for now, well, he certainly hoped no one tripped and fell in this hole. A shrug, legs coiled, Ali lept from the trench to land on the flat sand, now to make his castle, or fish as the case was.
"What's up?"

Kwaruza smiled and really wasn't sure what to say... he had dug such a large hole!
"What are you doing?"
She moved to the side as he jumped out but no matter how many times she looked at him and then the hole she really couldn't work out what it was he was doing.. it just made no sense at all!

A grin, the lion shook the sand from his hide, and ultimately fruitless gesture, his mane already thoroughly matted.
"Making a fish."
Such a simple, casual thing, nothing unusual at all, as if lions made fish in the sand all the time (though perhaps it might have seemed he was digging a hole a China).
He sat before the towering pile of sand, his head tilted curiously, pale eyes searching, almost as if he thought he could actually see fish swimming in the sands, perhaps he had. A paw reached out, pulling a small mound toward himself, beginning to shape it with his paws, was that the head of a fish?
Ah, so much sand, he could make lots of fish! And when the tide came in, they could all swim off to join their brothers in the ocean waters. Really, Ali'ikai was not all there, perhaps the result of a life-long catnip addiction, not that those brain cells he had lost were missed. He was happy, and that was all that mattered.

Making fish? Well that was something she hadn't heard before that was for sure. She watched him as he seemed to study the sand and then shape it and well, it did in some strange way look a bit like a fish. How odd.
She continued to watch him not saying much because in all honesty she really didn't understand what it was he was doing. Out of everything he could be doing he was sitting on the beach with a pile of sand making fish.
"Can you make something other then fish?" She was curious to see just how far his sand making talent went. Could he make anthing out of sand?

Yep, making fish, there was absolutely nothing unusual about that. Well at least to Ali'ikai there was nothing unusual. But then, he saw fish everywhere, in the sand, the clouds, the sky, the water, swimming in the air in front of him. Ever the care-free stoner, nothing seemed unusual to Ali.
Content with his first fish, he had paused before moving to the next, one paw scratching behind an ear as he debated the question.
"I dunno, maybe."
Hmmm...he supposed he could, if there were fish, why wouldn't there be other things? His eyes squinted, watching the sand, what else was swimming in the beach.
Ah! A turtle! Grinning again, his tail twitching, Ali set to work, gathering another pile of the golden earth in his paws, forming as crude disc, next for the flippers. Yep! It was a turtle!

She laid herself down on the sand next to Ali as he got to work. She couldn't help but chuckle a little as he made a turtle. He could make the whole content of the sea in sand at this rate. She just watched though, amused and amazed. She wondered if she could do it but she wasn't going to risk trying it in front of him. She wasn't that stupid!
"OKay.. do a lion! It can be chasing the fish!"
She smiled wondering if his talent stretched to making lions as well.

A lion, that might be a bit harder. He was going to need more sand, or maybe not (there was a rather large mound of it already).
Head tilting one way, then the other, Ali stared at the sand several moments before at last tackling a large pile of sand, shaping it with his paws, pausing every few moments to study the shape. Well, it looked sort of like a lion, right?
Well, maybe not so much like a lion. Alas, Ali'ikai, being the scatter-brained dork that he was, at some point must have thought of fish as he was sculpting (is that really a surprise?), because the end result seemed just as much fish as it was lion. Crudely formed paws, perhaps a mane, and yet the tail was most certainly a fish.
But in the end, was the shape really anything at all? Or just the result of a lion with an overactive imagination and a lioness who enjoyed humoring him? If another stumbled across the mounds in the sand would they see anything more than sand? Did it even matter?
In that beautiful sunshine, golden sand, the sound of gentle waves, the company of a good friend, Ali'ikai could have found no greater happiness. He liked Kwaruza, perhaps more than he had yet realized. He would have happily spent the entire day in the sand with her, from sun to the moonlight, maybe he would.

She could kind of see what it was he was making when it was the fish and turtle but the lion... well was it a lion? She really couldn't make anything out really that made much sense. Stretching her imagination she could probably just make out a rough outline though the tail she was confused by. Not even her imagination would work out what was up with that tail.
"Interesting...." She chuckled and looked down at the sand.
"I think I will make a better sand lion." She had a playful smirk on her face and so she jumped up onto the mount and using her paws flicked the sand at Ali. He could be her sand lion, he would probably make a rather good one and it wouldn't surprise her in the slightest if he even enjoyed it.

He would have gladly accepted her help with the 'sand lion', would have happily watched whatever creature she found in the sand. The game was much more fun when shared with a friend.
A startled yelp, paws flailed, the lion tumbled backward to land on his back in the sand, blue eyes looking upward at his friend. Really, after the events of their first meeting, one would think Ali would have come to expect such actions. Well, not that it would have mattered if he had, laid-back and care-free, Ali'ikai simply rolled with it, the smile never leaving his maw.
"Whoa..."
That was a lot further fall than he had expected.
Rolling over, Ali jumped to his paws, leaping after the white lioness with a playful bound. They'd just have to see who was really the 'sand lion' here.

Kwaruza hadn't expected him to jump up and chase her so quickly! She laughed and turned to run away though she didn't run fast. He was still new here and the sand took some getting use to. It wasn't the easiest thing to run on. She couldn't help but enjoy herself though, it was just too much fun!
"Come and get me Ali!"
She slowed down a little, it wouldn't be fun if he couldn't catch her!

"Hey man, wait up."
Not that he was objecting, or was bothered that the game had changed, had he even noticed? Perhaps it was all the same game to him, one endless adventure that now led him to run across the sands after the white lioness.
The sand was soft and warm beneath his paws, pulling him down with each step, almost as if he were running in slow motion. Trippy...
He had caught up to her, running at her side with a grin. Ah but he didn't pounce, didn't try to catch her, rather bumping his shoulder against hers before turning toward the water to run along the damn sand along the shore.
Maybe it was easier for him to run on the more compact sand, maybe he wanted to feel the waves on his paws, or maybe he simply thought it was time for a swim. Did it really matter though? It was a day for games, to spend with his friend doing whatever happened to strike them at the moment, that was all that mattered.

Kwaruza followed him as he ran towards the water but instead of running along as he did she leaped into the sea with a rather large splash. It seemed today was a day of being cub-like something she hadn't been for such a long time. It was as if she could be herself around Ali. He was going to be a great friend, she knew it.
She let the water cover her as she landed in the water. Oh how she loved the feeling of it! She smiled before swimming round to see if Ali was going to be following her. She was sure he would he seemed to adore the water as much as she did.
