I know of this Haanyath. She is my clutchmate, yes? Astarteth asked from the outside as Kallista gathered her items from the junior weyrling barracks.

They had moved on. But instead of getting their own weyr, due to the overcrowding, they were going to have to share space. She blessed her dragon's shell again as she was relieved to be with someone she knew... Though, in all honesty, she hadn't seen her friend since the Hatching. Checking over her area once more, Kallista grabbed her bundle and headed outdoors.

Immediately, she was set upon by Astarteth. Her pretty and proud green had gotten too large to sleep with her weyrmate any longer. Faceted eyes stared with love at her rider. Now you can have another girl to help you look pretty.

"I don't need to look pretty. I look fine. But it will be nice to talk to someone who actually understands some of my...problems." Kallista had tried more than once to explain that time of the month as well as several other symptoms to her dragon. Who completely had no idea what she was talking about... Looking around, she spotted the area that housed her new room. It looked small.

I will not be able to be inside with you. Astarteth whined.

"You are hardly inside with me now, Astar. It will be good for you to get to know other dragons around the Weyr. Someday, you will be a part of their wing, you will fight Thread together." Kallista paused as she stopped before the door. Pushing the door open, she looked around to see if T'ka was already there. "Hello?"
PostPosted: Wed May 27, 2009 4:08 pm

T'ka...was having a bit of trouble. She loved Haanyath. Dearly. But the concept of sharing anything, especially a room, was lost on Haanyath. And, it got worse. Haanyath wasn't quite full grown yet. She was small, even for a green, low to the ground, and very determined. Somehow, someway, one very crabby, very moody green had managed to squeeze herself into the room. Now, the room wasn't terribly big. And Haanyath, while smallish, was still a dragon, and was taking up more space than T'ka imagined could be possible. Hopefully, hopefully, she could convince Haanyath to get out before Kallista showed up.

Oh Kallista. T'ka hadn't seen her in a while. While not inclined to be girlish, T'ka was interested in talking to another girl, if for the fact that the only company she seemed to get anymore was Haanyath's. It would be nice to talk to someone...at least human. "Get out you big oaf, before our friends get here," she chided, patting Haanyath's thigh. The green grumbled deep in her throat but stayed put. T'ka sighed. This could take a while. She could only hope that...Shells!

"Hello," T'ka called back, sounding relatively calm. "I ask that you enter a little slowly. I'm having...a bit of a problem."

<> Haanyath complained to her rider. She hunkered down, tail strewn out over a chair and a bed, her head laying on the rug in the middle of the room. Her limbs were splayed out on either side of her, as she sought to assert her presence in the room, which was hardly necessary. She was, very, hard to miss. <> She commanded, though T'ka ignored this.

T'ka gave Haanyath a little push. She knew that she couldn't move Haanyath anymore physically, but she was trying to encourage the green that it was in her best interest to move. "Why don't you go outside like all the other dragons?" She whispered, exasperated, though quietly enough so that Kallista wouldn't be able to hear.

<> And, as it usually went, Haanyath got what she wanted. Unfortunately, it meant that Haanyath had learned to expect things to go in her favor. T'ka was having a bit of trouble trying to decide just how to convince her to go outside.

At least Xythe and Daeok weren't here to contribute to the madness. The two flits were thankfully off somewhere else, causing trouble no doubt. But as long as they weren't causing her grief at the moment, she was fine. She had as much as she could handle.

Kallista started to push the door open when she heard T'ka's voice call out to her to enter slowly. Curious, she moved slowly and gasped. There, inside of their room, was Haanyath looking decisively grumpy and stubborn. At least, the dragon had managed to only claim one of the beds and most of the furniture. Moving around Haanyath's head, Kallista tossed her satchel on the empty bed.

"Hello there, Haanyath. Hello there, T'ka. Um... Wouldn't your green be happier outside in the sun and not all cramped up?" Kallista asked very carefully as she sat down on the bed. T'ka's bondmate did not look very comfortable nor did she look like she planned on moving anytime soon.

Astar, love. Why is Haanyath squished into our room? Kallista asked her dragon who had managed to find a place to settle close by.

I do not know. I shall ask. Astarteth replied. Reaching out to Haanyath, she attempted a slightly friendly tone. The only green she really got along with was Ceylith whom she hadn't seen much of lately. Why are you stuck in that cramped room meant for our humans. Outside is so much better.

Kallista frowned. That was not quite what I meant. Out loud, she spoke. "Um... Astar and I were wondering, how you two have been doing. And if, Haanyath would like to join her outside." She looked slightly embarrassed at her green's attitude but really didn't apologize for it. "Have you have the chance to talk to a lot of people since Impression?"
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 4:14 pm

Haanyath practically threw a hissy fit when Kallista came in. Not that Haanyath made any aggressive move towards her, really, but she certainly was making it clear that she was far from pleased. She sat up as much as she could with the low ceiling, stomping and thrashing with forelegs and tail, growling and throwing a tantrum fit for a giant two year old. Thgough in retrospect, maybe she was doing well, since she was still only one. <> she shrieked loudly, to both Astarteth, T'ka, and any other dragon in the vicinity to hear.

T'ka was more than a little upset as well. Haanyath was making her look like a poor rider. T'ka didn't mind embarassment, she could really care less, but Haanyath had her time of whining. Now she was being juvenille. T'ka rapped Haanyath sharply just behind one of her horns. <> she scolded, not losing her temper, although her voice wavered between stern and frustrated.

Haanyath, very, very grudgingly, wiggled over to the door, giving the contents of the room a final, red-eyed glare, before cramming herself through the doorway. It wasn't very graceful, the act of squeezing a dragon through a space much too small, and it took Haanyath a minute or two to pull herself out, but she managed. T'ka noted that the room seemed a lot bigger without Haanyath taking up space, though it was certaily far from large. Oh well. As Weyrlings, they weren't treated extravagantly.

T'ka gave Kallista an apologetic look, and offered a shrug, as if to say 'What are you to do?'. After all, it wasn't entirely her fault that Haanyath was so difficult and hard to manage. She took a seat on the bed that Haanyath's tail had previously occupied, leaning back as she kicked off her shoes. "Outside of lessons...I don't get to talk to other people much, 'side from my cousin. Haanyath has the effect of repelling most company." Which was true. Most people didn't want to spend time around T'ka if that meant Haanyath was possibly around. How the grumpy green had become quite so infamous was unknown to T'ka, but it couldn't exactly be helped. Incidents like this didn't help that reputation though...

"Hopefully you've been doing better?" she asked, eager to draw the topic of conversation away from her and her lack of control over her bondmate. She wasn't in the mood for that right now.

Outside, Haanyath was crabby. She curled up at the doorway, fuming. She hardly payed attention to Astarteth, she was so deeply involved with her sulking. Who was that silly human, going in to take away her, Haanyath's, room? It wasn't right. And T'ka, the betrayl! T'ka had encouraged her to leave! That stung, though Haanyath would never admit that.

Outside, Astarteth snorted. Her eyes tinged a little red at the thought of this one acting out and hurting her rider. The green started to move but when she saw the other coming out and Kallista was okay, she settled once more. A little more grumpy than before, she responded to Haanyath. It is not your room. Dragons do not belong inside, we belong outside. You are acting like a Hatchling.

Kallista simply sat and watched. Moving might get herself injured. And while no dragon would intentionally harm a rider, it was a safe bet that Haanyath would not be as concerned with her safety as she would be T'ka's. Clearing her throat, Kallista gave T'ka a sympathetic smile. "I can see why others would not be so... Eager to be around her. I don't think I have met your cousin, what's her name?"

She tried not to mention that Haanyath's name was fairly infamous around the weyr as one not to cross but Kallista was sure that T'ka already knew this. Carefully, she began to unpack her things. "It's been rough... But I met someone who is helping me overcome several hurdles in my life. I," and she said this with a little bit of pride and embarrassment, "am learning how to swim again. I figure it is about time that I get over some of my issues. For Astar's sake at least. Is your cousin going to stand at the next Hatching?"
PostPosted: Sun May 31, 2009 7:50 pm

"Yeah...my cousin's name is Kyllae. She's a dolphineer. I'm suprised you haven't seen her at least. She's quite...noticable," T'ka shrugged. She was quite fond of her cousin, though she didn't want to come across as soft and girly by admitting it. Then again...Kallista was going to be her roommate. Wasn't she supposed to talk to her about things? T'ka had never been one to talk about herself much. But Kallista was nice. T'ka liked her. Maybe she would indulge herself a little. "She's...quite the character. She's nice though. I think she would really like Astar." Because, like the green, Kyllae loved to look pretty, to have people inform her of her beauty, and to flirt.

T'ka had already unpacked her things. Not that she had much. T'ka had never been materialistic. Her treasure was her mind, and Haanyath. She could go anywhere with just those, and be fine. Though creature comforts like a bed were never underappreciated. "Good for you, Kallista. It's not good to cling so to the past." T'ka knew that well. She had been ready to hold onto her anger, her resentment forever. But Haanyath...well, Haanyath had helped her. She was forever in debt to the green who had changed completely her outlook on life. She couldn't waste her time with a grudge. Half the time she was too busy caring for her green to even remember to sulk.

"Stand? Kyllae struts around the sands like she owns them. It's quite the show. I look forward to meething the dragon she eventually impresses," T'ka chuckled, and shrugged. She had high hopes for Kyllae. Though her cousin was actually older, she was very much a little sister to T'ka. Or the closest thing she had to one anyway.

"How has Astar been? Well I hope?" she ventured. Poor Astar. Stuck outside with Haanyath. Hopefully the pretty green could hold her own against her moody sister.

Haanyath gave Astar a deep, piercing glare before turning back to stare at the door. <> Haanyath snapped. Haanyath had gained something out of her relationship with T'ka as well. She wasn't less moody, nor was she nicer. Her vocabulary was much improved at times though, and she could be a little more cunning...when she felt like it. Unfortunately, this probably only contributed to the bad attitude.

"Maybe I have? I really haven't paid any mind to anyone who isn't a part of our clutch. I mean, I am becoming friends with E'rik and I have met C'ym but other than that..." Kallista just trailed off. She had never been the social type; she preferred to stand back and watch.

Watching T'ka put her things away, Kallista studied T'ka. Her friend had certainly come out her shell since Impressing. Kallista wondered if she was the same way. She didn't have many possessions and they were easily found a spot. "I can't let anything jeopardize Astarteth. She is all that matters. And, by letting go... I don't know... Maybe I can find some peace."

There, it was said. It was truly was time to lay haunts to rest. And sweet Ren, who reminded her so much of her little brother, was helping to do just that. Why, she had even managed to wade into the lake again. That was certainly an improvement from when she had arrived what seemed like Turns ago. "I hope she Impresses. If she is anything like you, she will make a good rider. As for Astar, what can I say? Still loves all the attention, still determined to fly high. I think she has been trying to fly behind my back. Though I don't blame her."

Outside...

Astarteth hissed angrily. She was not ignorant! She was the best of all the greens. You couldn't tell a hatchling from a flit! Let alone know one if it bit you. And at least I am not covered in ugly spots. It looks like you rolled around in the mud and decided to stay dirty.

The claws were out, perverbally speaking. After all, the dragons did know better than to attack each other. Didn't they?

T'ka was hardly a social butterfly herself. She was never one to be outgoing, especially with strange people. She didn't fault Kallista for not knowing Kyllae. Shells, with all the overcrowding, T'ka doubted she could recognize even a fifth of the Weyr's inhabitants.

"I know the feeling. I...I have let go of things, in favor of Haanyath. The past is behind. I find I am at peace more if I try to live in the moment, like she does," T'ka chuckled. "Thank you for the compliments. They mean a lot. The flying is nothing unusual. Haanyath has already tried testing her wings a few times, she doesn't care whether I'm there or not." T'ka shook her head in dismay. "She's got an independant streak a queenlength long, that one."

T'ka, finished with her things, took to a chair, stretching out on in comfortably. The room was a little jumbled and in disarray, thanks to its housing a rather large, green guest, but she would clean it in a few minutes. T'ka really just wanted to sit at the moment. "But please, we should not discuss such heavy things. We must have light, happy conversation. We are lucky it is just us two the room. Excluding the times Haanyath feels she drop by, of course." T'ka smirked. "Kyllae tells me some of the candidates are up to five a room now. I don't think I would handle that well. I like my space." Realizing this might come off as offensive to Kallista though, she quickly added, "Out of all the roommates I could have though, you would be my first pick. I enjoy your company," T'ka admitted.

~~~~~
Haanyath just snorted, laughed, almost. <> Haanyath drawled. Deciding that perhaps she didn't want to go into the room after all, she rolled over onto her back, looking at Astarteth through upside-down, yet quite amused eyes. She wasn't angry so much anymore as she was cynical and taunting. She had discovered there were other ways to get what she wanted than brute force, that she wasn't above that. Haanyath frequently threatened to sit on smaller dragons when they annoyed her. It was usually an effective threat. She only had to implement it once or twice. It had been...fun.
She waved a hand in Astar's general direction, as if brushing her off. <> she added a yawn for effect. She'd learned how to be a b***h from Kyllae. There were reasons Haanyath liked the girl. Kyllae taught her things T'ka never would. And some of them were just too amusing to pass up or ignore.
((ooc: *giggles* You keep using my s/n is your posts* *giggles*))
"I wonder if we will ever get the chance to live like that? Maybe when it comes time to actually fight Thread," Kallista paused at that thought. Thread would be falling soon. She wasn't exactly sure when or where but as soon as they were full fledged riders, they would probably know. When T'ka remarked about Haanyath's independent streak, she merely laughed. "It must be a green trait. Astarteth swears no green or gold can ever be as fast or as pretty as she is... She is the best in her mind..."
She paused smiling softly to herself. Astarteth was the best in her mind as well. But to say that would be rather boastful and vain. Besides, every rider knew that no dragon was better than their own. "Trust me, I thank the shell that hatched Astar that we are room mates. And that it is only two of us... With so many crowded together, the Weyr will have to watch out for other infections and stuff that can spread quickly. I got lice from my previous roommates and you see what happened. Extra short hair."
Astarteth rumbled. She watched Haanyath's antics with suspicion. She was tall and lean for her kind. But that meant she could get away much faster and fly much higher. Most useful for when it came time to mate. I may be lean and tall but you are short and squat like a watch wher. I would be surprised if you could even get off the ground.
Hah! Take that, Astarteth gloated to herself. That was a really low blow.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:28 pm
}~{Oh fudge! Totally wasn't paying attention, so sorry *Goes to fix* gonk }~{
T'ka stared at the chair arm and lazily picked at the fabric. She was tired. Chores were a burden, Haanyath was no picnic herself. At least she'd been given the day off to move...not like she really needed it. It had taken her less than a half candlemark, and now she was all situated. But going out would mean she'd get more chores. T'ka wasn't one to shrug off work. Hardly, she was very dedicated. "I don't care much about where I live. All I ask for is a bed, a place to bathe, and food, and I'm happy. Sharing a room is trivial compared to the problems we could be having."
It made T'ka feel a little better to hear that Astarteth was independent as well. She was beginning to think Haanyath just wasn't like other dragons, and to have her compared to Astarteth made her feel a little better. So maybe Haanyath wasn't the only one who acted up? It seemed the only kinds of dragons she encountered were well-behaved, quiet ones. Nothing like Haanyath. Who knew, maybe Astar would even have a calming effect on Haanyath over time? She would have to wait and see, she supposed.
T'ka inwardly flinched at the mention of disease. She thought about that, a lot. It was only a matter of time before something got out. These were far less than ideal conditions, something was going to crop up and bite them. She was not looking forward to it in the slightest. "For the Weyr's sake, I hope that any sickness that comes up will be easily dealt with. I don't fancy the idea of an over-crowded, sick Weyr." And that was an understatement.
How did the conversation keep getting dramatic though? She meant to have a friendly chat with Kallista, not brood over impending diseases. She supposed it was her fault. Idle hands made for a busy mind. She was overthinking everything. Maybe cleaning up would help. Rousing herself from the chair, she began to straighten the room out, picking up things and straightening objects Haanyath had knocked over or moved in her less than glorious exit. "I had a bout of lice. Got rid of them pretty quick though. My cousin was nice enough to bring my a bag of oils to wash my hair with that cleared it up. I have been extravagantly careful since then." Though the topic of lice did cause her to scratch her head unconciously. That hadn't been much fun. "You don't look half bad with short hair though. There's much worse things that having short hair."
~~~~~

Haanyath narrowed her eyes a little, though she wasn't bothered enough to acquire any red in them. Besides, Astar's comment was more annoying than actually angering. <> she snorted. She held her head away, feigning that Astarteth was a distasteful smell, or some other unpleasant thing.

she boasted, chest swelling with pride. She been compared to a Wher enough that that particular insult didn't bother her very much. Astar would have to be more creative than that to get under her thick skin.

Kallista smiled at the compliment. Maybe she shouldn't have raked E'rik over the coals about how short it had become... And when it came time for flight, at least she could stuff it under a cap. "Thank you for the comment. I'm still trying to get used to it. I learned that if I use Astar's sweet smelling oil, it seems to keep them at bay."

What to do, what to do? She was supposed to finish moving and report back to duty. But honestly, Kallista was enjoying being lazy in her room. Grinning at T'ka, she waved a hand around vaguely. "It looks like it is going to take all day to get things in order here. Shame we can't go back to lesson or duty."

Astarteth replied coolly. You may be strong but I am swift. I can fly high and easily char thread. If you don't watch it, you might be mistaken for a blue. Short. squat and square.

Astarteth snorted at her own joke even if no other got it. Looking Haanyath over, the other green seemed to be covered in a layer of dirt. Aren't you ever clean?
PostPosted: Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:11 pm

}~{Unless you have any objections, I'm gonna wrap this up before too long. Rather to have a shorter, finished RP than a long one where the characters run out of things to say/do >w<}~{

T'ka thought about cutting her hair sometimes. It was shorter than it used to; not quite shoulder length now, though there were a lot of people running around with shorter...Kyllae had threatened to wring her neck if she got her hair cut shorter though, saying it simply 'wouldn't do' and that 'it took away one of her few feminine aspects'. While T'ka didn't care much for looking feminine, she didn't want Kyllae to fret to much, so for her cousin's sake, she would leave it this length. "I've found a good sweet oil or two will keep them away as well. If I hadn't, I suspect my hair would be quite short at the moment." Which was true. T'ka had little patience for annoying things like lice. She had been very close to shaving her head. She didn't care much for her physical appearance. Looks were a relatively small part of a person. If someone would judge her for the way she simply looked...they weren't the kind of person she would enjoy anyway.

"Lessons?" T'ka stuck her tongue out, for Kallista's benefit. "I don't fancy lessons much. The history of the Weyr bores me, really. You should hear the way Haanyath complains," T'ka laughed. "I'd much rather we focused on drills or mock-wing training. That I'm excited for. Haanyath has expressed to me numerous times how eager she is to fly with me. Probably to get revenge after the one time I carried her when she was little," she said with a shrug, and a soft smile. "Just how she remembers me doing that I'm not sure, considering she can hardly remember things I told her a day or two ago."

~~~~~
Well, Astar had warranted enough of Haanyath's attention to promt her standing up. Lazing onto her side and up onto her feet in one continuous motion, Haanyath stared very hard at her sister, she leaned forward and, with a sudden burst of speed, gave Astarteth a quick, harmless n** on the nose. She wheeled about and dashed off, screeching a shrill, high dragon laugh. <> Haanyath called out in a sing-song voice, taunting, daring her green sibling to chase her.
((That's fine! I will try to wind it down))
"We should take the girls out and oil them together sometimes. It would do Astarteth good to have some one ground her. She can be such a gloat sometimes. I swear she gets on me about my upkeep more than she cares about hers." Kallista chuckled lightly.
It was nice to just have someone to chat with and have them understand the trials of being a rider. What it was like before life started over again. That is what if felt like to Kallista anyways. "History is dull. As is learning Hold Etiquette... Bleh. I can't wait until our first flight practice! Astarteth is eager to prove how fast she can be..."
Astarteth squawked and sat down. KALLISTA! Haanyath bit me.
She sounded like a young child telling on a playmate. Even her voice sounded sulky. Her eyes were still a murky blue, not a hint of red. Which meant that she was having some sort of fun. I bet I get more bronzes and browns than you do. All that will ever chase you will be the blues. Then you will be jealous.
Huffing, she turned her rear to her clutchmate.
Turning an amused look to the door, Kallista chuckled. "I think they might be getting along."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 08, 2009 5:44 pm
}~{Closing post. This was fun; I look forward to RPing with you again in the future 3nodding }~{
It was easy for T'ka to see why she liked Kallista. The girl was pleasant, accomadating, well-spoken. T'ka was sick of so many tightly wound, agitated people. Kallista was calm and refreshing. "We should. Haanyath doesn't approve of baths much...but she does like a good oiling." T'ka finished picking up, and surveyed the small room with a mild pleasure. It wasn't much, but it was hers. Well, Kallista's and hers; same difference. And while it was far from comfortable, and least it was better than the candidate barracks.
"It's hard to say whether Haanyath or I look forward to flight training more. I am more than eager to do something more than sit in a class or do chores."
Haanyath glared, crinkling her nose in distaste at her sibling's lack of spirit. The poor thing probably didn't want to get her paws dirty. Oh well. Haanyath would have by herself. She pranced a little farther away, constantly looking over her shoulder to reaffirm that Astar was not chasing her. Oh well. The poor girl was hopeless. With a huff, Haanyath trotted off, to go harass some other dragon no doubt. <you; how could they when all you do is sit still>> she snapped, ending her part of the conversation. Though she was secretly pleased and amused with her sister. Astar was a worthy roommate.
T'ka looked up at Kallista's comment. Haanyath hadn't said anything...but the feelings of mixed amusement and frustration couldn't be good. T'ka sighed and shook her head, running a hand through her hair. "Well...as long as they don't kill each other," she shrugged.
<> Haanyath demanded, though failed to specify just what task her rider was needed for. Seeing as there wasn't much left to do in the room, T'ka plodded over to the door, flashing Kallista a smile and a wave. "I've gotta go. We have to talk again soon." And the good thing about having Kallista as a roomate...she would always be there to talk to. So, smiling, T'ka left the room; off to attend to Pern's angriest green.
