Humming loudly to himself, Aubrey trotted on toward the market with a distracted smile on his face. He was excited about today. He'd been working a lot with his friend Irisse on cooking, and he was planning to get her a suprise as a thank you. Something to do with her dancing, but he wasn't sure what to get. The forest air was rather warm, and the male was greatful for the shade of the trees. His dark hide would be really hot in the direct sun.

Palladia sighed, what was she going to do? Holding the baby tightly to her chest, she walked on, thinking. How was she going to break this to Riome? Thankfully she managed to feint it off, leaving the baby with someone when meeting him, but he was bound to find out sometime. She couldn't bring herself to throw the child away either. Now Palladia knew the true meaning of love. The baby was hers and there was nothing that could change that fact.
As the child stirred, Palladia couldn't help but smile at her, stroking her hair gently. "Did I wake you?"Matilda clung to her mother, still sleepy from her nap. She yawned slightly squirming and cooing peacefully. She was restless and looked up at her mother, "Down." she said, pointing at the ground. "Down?" she repeated, still stroking Mattie's hair, "You want to go down?" Palladia grunted as she bent down put the child carefully on the ground, "Don't run off now."Mattie cooed happily upon reaching the ground, and started to toddle off arms spread out. Ever since she learned walk, Mattie wanted to go wherever her small legs could take her.

Really, what did dancers use? Maybe a fancy shirt. But what size did she wear? No good. Pretty necklace? Possibly... Something with bells? Things that would accent her moves. He sighed to himself even as he continued smiling. He hadn't thought it out quite as much as he should have before leaving... Pausing, he took his water sack out and stole a couple sips from it.

Mattie laughed aloud as her mother tried to swoop her back up. Walking as fast as she could, she slipped under the brush, crawling still laughing.
"Oh Mattie!" Palladia chuckled, "You're going to get your beautiful pelt dirty!" she crouched down near the brush, arms spread out, "Won't you come back to Mama dearest?"

About to continue on, Aubrey froze at the sound of a voice and laughter. That was a child's laughter, but the voice... Did he know that voice? He took a step closer to the brush, perking his ears, but freezing again when the bushes right in front of him began to move. Someone was there! He crouched down, leaning onto his hands to peer into the brush.

The child continued crawling, ignoring her mother. Finally making it to the other side, Mattie stood up on her wobbly legs, running foward, leaves and twigs stuck in her hair. Mattie continued to run foward before colliding onto something quite larger than her.
Palladia sighed. Did she really have to go through the brush and get herself dirty? Maybe there was some other way? She looked to both sides of her and spotted a small hedge at least a hundred yards away. It was jumpable. Standing up, she trotted to the hedge.

Aubrey jumped up when a small form scrambled from the brush in his face. He looked in suprise at the baby centaur that had run into his chest. Immediatly, he crouched down. "Hey there." He said gently, tilting his head curiously. "Where's your mom?" He stood back up and tried to look through the bushes. He didn't hear the adult anymore. He frowned and knelt back down. The kid was covered in twigs, so he pulled off a couple. She was a cute little thing. "So... you okay?" He asked, not quite sure how to speak to babies. Hopefully her mother would come soon...

Mattie giggled, holding her arms out, "Up! Up!" her tiny legs gave out on her, the centaur falling on her back a delighted expression on her face. "Up!" she squealed.
Jumping over the hedge flawlessly, Palladia trotted faster, "Mattie! Where are you?" she stopped in her tracks, seeing her child and a male hovering over the child. She would know that male anywhere. Her blood ran cold and stood there in horror. Why was he here?! And who told him to touch her baby?!
Taking quick action, Palladia galloped over, grabbing Mattie and clutching the baby to her chest, while staring at him with absolute hatred.

"Up? But you just fell down." He said with a light laugh. He looked up when he heard the voice again, clearer this time. It couldn't be... He sat where he was crouched as Palladia scooped up Matilda, standing slowly after the female had stepped back. His light eyes were dark as he returned the glare. "You." He said, clenching his jaw. He'd thought he'd gotten over what had happened, but seeing that face brought it all back. Of all the questions that flashed through his mind, the formost was the odd one. What was she doing with a child?

"Thought you'd show yourself after someone has your child, eh?" Palladia spat, partially covering Mattie's face as if she didn't want her to see Aubrey. "I guess you've been thumping other women and leaving them too as well?" Whatever it was, she wasn't going to take any bullshit from him.
Matilda looked at her mother curiously, never hearing such a mean tone in her voice. She pulled at Palladia's hair gently, ears drooping. She wanted to tell her mother that she was sad that her mother was acting like this.

"What the heck are you talking about?" He growled in confusion. What was she talking about children for? "Hey! Lest you forget, you're the one who left! Looks like you ran straight to more males too. Ran from them as well I'm guessing." He glanced at Matilda and sighed, lowering his voice. "Just take your daughter and get away from me." He hissed through his teeth. "Might wanna keep a better watch on her too. Actually, let her go, before she picks up too many of your traits. Maybe a naga will find her. Raise her to be better than you." He started to turn, determined to keep on his walk. He didn't want anything to do with that psychotic woman.

"Excuse me?" her voice had turned ice cold, "My traits?" she dug her hoof into the ground, "Better my traits than her father who suffers constantly from bad luck." It was best she tell him now before the stupid idiot got away, "That's right, Aubrey. This - " she held out Matilda, "-is your daughter. Thankfully she can't understand what your saying, so she isn't insulted in the slightest. I'm surprised," she said dusting off Matilda's pelt, "You don't recognize your own daughter when she looks like you. How pitiful."

"My only bad luck lately is running into yo-" He froze in his tracks, staring straight ahead into the trees. His traits? In the girl? It couldn't be... He closed his eyes. The girl had light skin, and the fur was a bit lighter, but... It couldn't- She was- There were lots of males with brown pelts! "You probably just found some tavern letch who has red and brown fur too. Don't try to pin it on me." His mind reeled desperately. That girl as their child? Just the thought of 'their child' made him want to throw up. What if she really was though? Was their a way to prove it other than pointing at his fur? She was lighter than he after all.

Palladia continued in the same sharp tone, "'Tavern letch'? You really don't know me do you? You of all people should know that I don't fool around at the tavern." She narrowed her eyes, "Or are you trying to skip out of your fatherly-responsibilities?" She really didn't want him around, but it was necessary she address it to him. Stupid fool. Why did she have to meet him?
"If you'll excuse me, I have a playdate to go to." she started to walk off, "I really don't want to see your face ever again." the pain and anger in her voice was evident as she walked off with her head held high in the air.
Matilda stared at Aubrey with innocent eyes and stretched her arms toward him, "Ba! Pway!"

Aubrey ground his teeth. "Of course I don't know you. That was just under two weeks we were together. You don't now me either." He should let her go, but she'd brought the child... She didn't have to tell him about her. Why had she? Spinning back he grabbed her arm before she could get far. "'Fatherly-responsibilities.' And what would you have me do?" He growled in her ear, trying to keep his voice soft, but the red anger was plain. If he thought about it, he was probably more angry now than he had been at their last parting. "You come around out of the blue, tell me I have a daughter, and expect to just leave? If you didn't want me in her life, you'd have said nothing." Seeing Matilda stretching toward him, he crossed an arm in front of Palladia and took one of the tiny outstretched hands in his own. "I couldn't care less if you dropped dead right now Palladia, but if she truly is my daughter, don't think you can keep her away. You speak of my duties. What of yours to tell me about my own child when you found out?"
